Adventures in Managing: Inarizaki Edition

Summary:

There's no one else who could handle this powerhouse team other than you. At least that's what you keep telling them.

Notes:

this was definitely inspired by @mooshys Shiratorizawa Antics, because it's one of my all time favorite Haikyuu!! series on this site! I love Inarizaki with all my heart, they're my favorite team!! I wanted to write short little stories to relieve some stress from writing my other fics, so enjoy!

Chapter 1: arm wrestling gone wrong

Summary:

in which Y/n and Suna try to make some extra cash

Chapter Text

If someone had to describe a normal day at Inarizaki High School, the Miya twins getting into a fight would be the first thing on that list. Profiting off the Miya twins fighting would be second on that list.

“Yo! Whatcha guys doing?” Akagi plops down beside you in the empty desk. It’s lunch time, and instead of eating, you’re busy watching the twins about to arm wrestle at the next table.

“Atsumu forgot their bentos today, so they’re fighting over who gets mine.” You fill him in as Aran and Oomimi join in.

“Why don’t they just share?” Aran asked, dumbfounded.

“I ain’t sharing with this scrub!”

“It’s my bento!”

The two boys glare at each other, throwing more insults.

“I’m the judge.” You wave a peace sign as you bite into your bread.

“Did you guys start yet? Don’t tell me you started.” Suna asked as he sat back in his seat.

“Nah, yer good.” You say. “How much?” You gesture to the bag full of cash he has in his hand.

“20,000 yen on Osamu!” Suna sounds giddy.

“What?! Whadda bout me?!” Atsumu gasps.

“Uhh, 1,000 on Atsumu.”

“Wha- Hey!”

You snicker as you watch him get riled up.

“Don’t mind! Use that anger to win!” You poke at him. He scowls and faces his brother once more.

“Ya guys are crazy.” Aran is shaking his head. “Does Kita know about this?”

You and Suna scoff.

“Do ya really take us for amateurs?” You smirk.

“Gin’s off distracting Kita for us while we rake in the cash.” Suna explains, waving a few yen around.

Oomimi shuffles uncomfortably. “Kita would disapprove.”

“Don’t worry Oomimi-san! We’ve got everything in control, right Rin?”

The middle blocker nods, counting the cash once more. “No refunds.”

“If ya don’t wanna watch, feel free to leave, just don’t say anything to Kita-senpai and-”

“Can we start already?!” Atsumu shouts impatiently.

You click your tongue.

“Any of you wanna make a bet? Akagi-san?” Suna waved a bill in front of the third years as a crowd began to form around the twins.

“No thanks.” The libero forms an X with his arms.

“Whatever, just don’t get jealous when we’re swimming in dough!”

You stand up on your desk and clap to grab everyone’s attention.

“This is the last time we’re taking bets everyone!” You point to the chalkboard. Suna had written how much money people were betting.

“Add 300! On Osamu!”

“I wanna bet 2,000 on Osamu!”

“Osamu 500!”

“Why ain’t nobody betting on me?!” Atsumu cried, making Osamu laugh.

You smile at him reassuringly and place a hand on his shoulder.

“Don’t worry sweetheart, I put all my money on ya!”

Atsumu actually smiles a bit, the nickname giving his cheeks a rosy hue. Until he realizes what you’d meant.

“Wait, yer the 1,000 yen?!”

You shrug at him, sitting on your desk as Suna handles the cash. “That's all I had left after I bought my bread.”

He huffs at you, but you only respond in laughter.

“Win for me Atsumu!”

He cracks the knuckles in his right hand as Osamu massages his wrist.

“Yer going down, scrub.” Osamu spits.

“That bento is mine!”

You giggle as the two grip the other’s hand.

“Oh I can’t watch,” Aran covers his eyes, though you note he still peeks through his fingers.

“In three!” You announce.

The boys tighten their grip.

“Two!”

Atsumu’s feet shuffle on the ground.

“One!”

Osamu swallows thickly.

“Go!”

Immediately each twin is giving his all, each forearm and bicep is fully flexed with muscle as they strain against the other’s strength.

The crowd is going wild, people shouting and clamoring over the other. They go crazy as Atsumu’s arm seems to dip.

“Come on Atsumu!” You scream over the chants of Osamu’s name. You’re banging the table in hopes of distracting the silver-haired twin.

But God seemed to be on Osamu’s side today, as Atsumu’s arm went lower and lower, he was barely hanging on for dear life.

“No! Atsumu, no!” You’ve got your head in your hands.

Then suddenly the faux blonde began to shout. He used all his energy to push Osamu back, evening out their arms again.

“Yes! Alright!” You and Suna share a high-five.

“Ya can do it! I believe in ya!” You cheer. You can see how hard Atsumu is trying, as he pushes Osamu’s arm slowly down.

Osamu, who had originally been winning, was now severely angry that he was struggling. Atsumu was getting cocky now too, he was nearly half way.

“Yer almost there! Yer gonna-”

“What in the world is going on here?!” A shrill voice cries out.

Just as Atsumu was about to slam Osamu’s arm on the desk, your teacher, Mrs. Kamitani walked in.

And right next to her was Kita. And right next to him (or really behind him) was your no good friend Ginjima.

“Gin! Ya had one job!” You blame. “I’m outta here!” Akagi whispers, and is followed by the other third years along with the other students.

“I-I was tryna steer him away I swear!” Ginjima pleaded. “Didja even try?!” You argue.

“He did not.” Kita answered for him and you gawked. “Gin!”

“Ya wouldn’t even let me watch!” He countered, crossing his arms like an angry child.

“Enough!” Mrs. Kamitani shouted. Your back suddenly straightened.

“I am seriously tired of you children making fools of yourselves, either you stop causing such nonsense in my classroom, or I will be speaking to your coach!”

In a matter of seconds, Atsumu and Osamu release each other, you get off the desk, and Suna tucks his phone (and cash) away.

“Sorry for the inconvenience, sensei!” You all bow deeply. You hear her sigh and mumble about how a disgrace you all were to the Inarizaki name.

“Please clean up before class, I’ll let your captain decide on your punishment.” She says as she walks back out to her office.

You four don’t dare get up from your bow as Kita now stands before you. You guys stand in that awkward 90 degrees as you wait for him to speak.

“K-Kita-san-” Atsumu tries to speak. “We’re sorry-”

“Two extra laps during today’s run and 100 extra serves.” He announces. You’re sure the boys can feel their legs and arms turning into pudding already.

“That includes ya too, Y/n.”

“What?!” You stand up. “But I’m just the manager! I don’t train!” You try to plead your way out of your punishment.

“Ya can run three laps instead of 100 serves.” You crumble to the ground.

“Ya guys need to grow up sometimes. Yer creating a disturbance to students and teachers alike with yer shenanigans.” He lectures.

“Sorry! Kita-san!” The twins beg.

“I’m sorry too.” Suna adds, looking uncomfortable.

You sigh and pout. “I’m really sorry Kita-senpai.”

Kita stays silent for a while before clearing his throat.

“Apology accepted. Now clean up and get ready for practice after class. Ya too Gin.” He comments as he walks out the room.

“Why am I in trouble?!” Gin complains, following his captain out.

As soon as Kita’s out of ear shot, Suna sighs. “At least we didn’t lose any dough,” He petted the stack of bills in his hands.

“I know, thank God I won! I’m starving!” Atsumu reaches for the wooden bento box, but his hand is slapped away.

“Whaddya think yer doing with my bento?” Osamu asked menacingly.

“Yer bento?! Ya’ve got the wrong idea, I won!” Atsumu snags it.

“No, I won!”

“I won!”

“I won!”

“No, I won!”

“I won-”

No one won, as Osamu tugged the bento away a little too hard, causing it to slip out of his grip. As if in slow motion, you all watched as the bento bounced against the floor, it’s content spilling all over.

“Nooo!” Osamu cried, scoping it back into its container. “Gross, ya packed katsu-curry?” Atsumu gagged at you.

You only sigh, covering your face from shame. You had other things to worry about, like running three whole laps around the school this afternoon.

Extra 1

"Kita-senpai! I think I'm dying!" You cry.

"Y/n, yer not even running anymore, I'm carrying ya."

You're slumped over his back, having passed out from exhaustion halfway through the second lap (Inarizaki's a big school).

"I feel sick! My chest is on fire!" You complain.

"That's yer lungs bringing oxygen to yer brain and body, yer fine." He informs you.

"I don't think I can make it!"

"Yer on yer last lap, and the gym is right there." He points, but you only groan in (fake) pain.

Kita sighs. "I'll buy ya a popsicle on the way home tonight."

"Deal!" You hop off his back and sprint towards the gym.

"Catch up senpai!" You shout as you enter the gym doors.

He laughs to himself, you're completely wild.

Extra 2

In the end, all the money went back to their respectful owners. Gin had fessed up to Kita about the money scheme, and forced you and Suna to go from class to class the next day.

“This sucks! I’m broke now too!” Suna complained.

“At least ya didn’t bet money,” You huff. “I had to pay Gin back his 1,000 yen, plus interest!”

You two sluggishly make your way to practice. You notice a few of Atsumu’s fan girls waiting outside the gym.

“Hey.” You stop, confusing the middle blocker. “How much do you think those girls are willing to pay for Atsumu merch?”

Suna looks at the girls and back at you. “Where do you even get Atsumu merchandise?”

The grin on your face says everything.

“His locker.”

Atsumu had to beg his mom to pick him early that day.
