Chapter Text
The plane was loud with excitement. All the new recruits were being shipped out to their command centers. The boys around me talk about their own excitement for the posting.
"Did you hear, this place is run by the 141 task force. Captain Price will be in charge of our training." I listened in on their convocation as the plane hit some turbulence.
"I can't fucking wait. I want to kill some fucking terrorists!" The two guys knocked helmets as they busted out with more laughter. So simple minded.
Hopefully we landed soon so I didn't have to continue to listen to them. This place was just going to be another military base filled with soldiers who were ready to die for their own selfish reasons.
I hated the violence and unneeded bloodshed. There was always another way, but men usually prefered the violent option.
I sighed and looked out the small window. In the distance, you could just make out a military base. Even from this far away you could see the soldiers doing training and running around.
This would be my new home for the next year. Another sigh escaped and I turned my gaze to my bag in my lap.
I had my medical instruments my… father had given me before departure. They were surgical steel and were made for smaller hands. I was on the smaller side so these tools would greatly improve my skills.
I also had pictures from home, civilian clothes, and a very old stuffed animal. Hopefully no one finds out about Jasper. That was the last thing I needed.
Shaking the thoughts from my mind, the plane started its descent toward my new home. A few cheers rose from the crowd as land grew closer and closer.
Once landed, we all lined up and waited for our orders. It didn't take long for the Captain to welcome us.
"Welcome to Camp Green Snake, I am Captain Price. I will be over seeing you while you train here. I expect none of you will cause any problems. We are not a day care. If you don't pull your fucking weight around here, you WILL get chewed up and spit out. You will not jeopardize our mission. Am I understood soldiers?!"
"Yes Sir," we all said in unison.
"Good. Now you lot will be staying in barrack delta. Training begins tomorrow morning zero five hundred sharp. If any of you are late, you'll be wishing you were dead. Dismissed."
Captain Price turned and walked away from us. He was very intimidating. I do not want to get on his bad side.
Everyone shuffled their way to the barracks. The base was a pretty good size. There were 2 other group barracks next to ours. To the north looked to be the high ranking officers rooms. Individual room with privacy, lucky bastards.
"Oh ya, you should have seen his face. One moment terrified, the next, BOOM blown off," a loud voice boomed from the private rooms. A man the size of a small bear was laughing with a couple other men. He wore a mask that had the holes torn out. His speech was laced with a German accent.
Wow. Was all I could think. I stood at 5"4' and that man had to be almost two feet taller than me. Lucky for me I wasn't the only person staring at them. A few other soldiers had stopped to look at them.
The group passed by without a glance. Too busy to give us the time of day. The whispering started as we walked into the delta barracks.
Tuning them out, I picked the bunk closest to the back door. This way only one guy would be next to be. I didn't need any extra issues from them.
Not interested in gossiping, I slipped out and set out on an adventure to find the medbay. My home away from home. I took in the landscape and worked on keeping a map of this place in my head.
There was a section that had buildings close together. Which had a bar lounge, gym, shooting range, and much more crowded over here.
I turned a blind corner and ran smack into someone. I lost my balance and started to fall until a pair of arms caught me. One hand grabbing my wrist the other catching my waist.
I was caught off guard from the impact and grabbed the arm that held my waist.
Ouchie that hurt. I should have been more careful taking corners. Next time it'll be a bullet not a person. Looking up to see who I ran into, I was greeted with a skull.
The man towering over me wore a terrifying skull mask that only made his eyes even more intense. I had been ready to thank the person for catching me, however my mouth went dry. The seconds ticked by slowly as he looked me over. This is what I imagine looking into death's face would be like.
"You should watch where you're walking, recruit," his voice was stern and held no emotion. His British accent colored his words nicely. Curse British people and their accents.
He let go of his hold on my body and I stumbled back a foot or two. "Yes sir." I lowered my gaze and stood straight. I focused on a rock next to his shoe.
"Ghost, we are waiting for you. What is the hold up?" A vaguely familiar voice called out as they got closer. I did my best to keep my eyes locked down.
"Nothing. A little mouse seems to be lost." Skull mask said boredly. Little mouse?!? I bit the inside of my cheek to keep myself from saying something I would definitely regret later.
"Oh? A little mouse you say?" The German accent hit my ears and the image of the tall soldier from earlier flooded my thoughts.
He had been pretty far away last time, and now I could see his boots next to skull guys. A peak couldn't hurt, right?
With only slight hesitation, I followed up the figure in front of me. I had only gotten half way up when my courage faltered. Not to say I'm a perv or anything but this man was wearing pants too tight for him and it was… distracting to say the least.
Quickly dropping my gaze to the ground, I refused to acknowledge the warmth I could feel on my cheeks. It's not my fault he's wearing pants too small for him…
" Sorry Sirs, I was looking for the medbay. I just got here on the plane today." I spoke louder than usual trying to sound strong. Was I trying to overcompensate for looking at this man's groin? Maybe. Would they know that? Hopefully not.
"The medbay is on the other side of the compound," Skull man said blankly and turned away. He seemed to have lost any interest in me. At least I didn't make him mad. I can't be making enemies on the first day.
"Ghost, that's no way to introduce yourself. Launische hose." The man known as Ghost didn't respond as he kept walking away. Keeping my gaze down, I waited for some sort of resolution. **cranky pants
"Anyway, hallo there. As you may have guessed, that's is Ghost. He is our lieutenant. Big and scary. Don't mind him though, he is always like that." I could hear the teasing in his voice. If I had looked up, I would have seen Ghost giving him a glare. And the middle finger.
"My name is König. I assume you are our new medic, ya?" I could feel his attention fully trained on me.
"Yes Sir, my name is Mira Valori." I was calming down as I restrained myself from looking at him. He didn't say his rank but he must be important if a lieutenant gives him respect.
"Ah ja very gut. It's always good to have extra medics." As he spoke he seemed a bit… nervous? He seemed confident talking with Ghost, however now there was something else hidden in his voice.
"König get your ass over here. We aren't waiting all day for you." Ghost finally calling for the man, as the group of soldiers waited at an entrance to a building.
I pushed my own nerves to the sides and brought my eyes to the mask of the man before me. Upon a closer look he had another mask under his torn one. His eyes were a silvery blue that pierced through his dark mask.
König's gaze was over his shoulder, shouting back at Ghost. He was laughing at him before he turned back to me.
I should have looked away the moment we made eye contact but I was too busy enjoying the view to think of proper etiquette. König looked back at me for only a moment before looking away. His eyes shrouded with thoughts I couldn't even imagine.
"I must be going. See you later das fraulein," without looking back at me he turned away toward his group. I'm not sure why but I stood there dumbfounded watching this 7 foot tall man. I wonder what he was thinking. I pondered until he disappeared into the building. **young lady/miss
I relaxed my military stance and leaned up against the building next to me. That was an… experience. I thought over the interaction that just took place.
König's appearance flooded my thoughts, which included his… tight pants.
Oh boy, I need to pull myself together or I will never survive this.
