Work Text:

𝙷e never expected this to happen, Nagisa Shiota was a virgin when it came to romance or relationships. He was severely inexperienced in that field, (even if he read a few romance novels) obviously some would expect that from a teenage boy, after all he was just 14.

Tho in his life he has never, not even once! Thought of being involved in a relationship. It was a strange, foreign, and absurd thought! To him he only planned on making his mother content with him and evolving their relationship to something more motherly like, more family like. He only wished to feel safe around her and to have a normal, stable life as a single person with without a doubt NO relationship with anyone, at all.

And the fact, to make matters even worse. He unfortunately developed quite heavy feelings for his best friend since Junior High, his first ever friend you could say. Even childhood friends! Out of anyone he could’ve fallen for, he fell for him. If you knew the Akabane Karma and the Shiota Nagisa you would’ve thought it was also absurd. Akabane and Shiota were on completely different levels! The former was fierce, feisty, and has a tendency to harm students. Most people at Kunugigaoka Junior High feared him for his negative reputation, a delinquent was what he was. Yet instead of being a stereotypical high school drop-out he was insanely smart.

Karma Akabane was an impressive student. He has both street-smarts and book-smarts, it was a dream for your average girl to fall for him or develop a teensy-weensy little crush on him. Unfortunately due to his reputation almost no one fell for him, they were too afraid of how it would drastically change their life (and their health.) And finally Shiota.. he is a kind, compassionate and wholesome person in general. He's very friendly and comfortable to be around, almost everyone liked him! Everyone would’ve! If it weren’t for the fact he dropped down to Class 3-E. They were completely different beings, different in nature.

Yet somehow.. they were alike, similar, the same.

That was probably how Nagisa Shiota drew Karma Akabane in, a seemingly small, weak innocent creature wouldn’t pose a threat. He never thought about it once, though later on he was proven to be wrong. The former best of friends grew apart as time passed, this was mainly due to the latter’s growing fear for the former. All it took was a simple touch of the index finger to rub against the latter’s back covered with rough black carefully knitted cloth. That was all that took for them to drift away.

Yet after a few months later a long-lasted reunion finally came. The boys deserved it, though they weren’t as close as they were before but they were working on it, and that was all they needed.

(“And as the Universe grinned, accomplishing its achievement. It patiently waits for the next phase to come. The Universe thought, “These boys truly deserve happiness.” They said with a heart-warming tone and welcoming arms.”)

When the red-head first saw him and that man harming his partner he couldn’t help but just brainstorm ideas on how and why he thinks it was legal and right for him to just treasure the thought of murdering him in cold-blood.

The fists to his face and the drop of blood that leaks from his lips all the more fuel his harboured anger to that man, but his bluenet just taking it confuses him more. ’Why isn’t he fighting back?’ ‘Why isn’t he using the knife?’ those questions surround his head, circling him as if he was some sacred artifact.

He hated how calmly he asked his classmate "Are we still leaving them to it, Terasaka?" as if they were talking about the weather, dismissing the fact that his best friend is currently fighting for his life.

The ketchup haired boy was slightly disgusted with himself.

He truly believed in the bluenet but he was currently questioning who was more insane here when it came to name-calling and their shared sanity. But right now he was helpless as all he can do is just watch silently.

Now at first he had no idea what he was doing as he had NO plan whatsoever so whilst he was serving his role as a punching bag he was devising some sort of plan midst battle.

And finally an imaginary light bulb glowed atop of him as he finally thought of something, and so he shifted his hand to grab the knife that was securely wrapped around his belt and picked himself up.

Newfound bravery and confidence rushed through him adrenaline pumping inside his head. Ignoring the burning sickeningly worried gazes of his colleagues (and teachers.) he glared at the adult in front of him as he slowly walked towards the once cold-blooded, physcotic former teacher, whose face morphed into one of pure fear and muttered out the words-..

"Takaoka-Sensei.. How would you like to be my guinea pig?"  with that same eerie smile, licking his dry lips. Approaching as if he was a snake poised to strike or a vicious predator who had found its prey.

Saying he was tired was a huge understatement, he was exhausted. He couldn’t wait for everything to be over with and for the comforting and warm non-existent limbs of sleep to envelop him, but noooo, right someone just HAD to speak with him after he clearly looks like he had just finished fighting an army of ruthless soldiers.

Frustrated the blue haired boy whipped his head around one might assume he got whiplash from that simple quick turn of a neck, however all frustrations dissolved when his eyes laid upon the human being who’s hands rested upon his shoulder.

“Karma..?” The boy called out as if he wasn’t being heard by the other.

“Nagii, you doing alright? Don’t wanna see you suddenly pass out on the floor haha..” The latter bitterly chuckled, his eyes glassy with nothing but concern for the former.

“Anyway, we need to talk.” his tone bold.

“Talk..? Karma, I'd love to talk but it’s 10 PM right now. Can this wait until tomorrow?” the boy visibly yawns.

“It’s just.. Look, what you did was seriously reckless. I’m just happy you made it out alive but you gotta make sure you’ll NEVER do that again.” to say Nagisa was shocked is just insulting, that boy was flabbergasted by the words that escaped the red-heads mouth

Karu I-” “No, you need to listen to me first. You have to swear , you would never do that again. Please Nagii I almost lost you, what you did was totally insane.” he said in a desperate tone. Eyes flooded with nothing but concern for the younger.

Nagisa was stunned he had never seen the delinquent behave in such a way.

(He ignored the slight pink tint on his cheeks when the other had said that, he was worried for him? For someone who didn't matter, so little and meaningless compared to the world, yet he was worried about him ?)

"Karma, I'm sorry you err-.."

Nagisa suddenly felt dizzy, slowly dozing off. "-felt that way. But I did what I thought was best for the.. class. I had no other choice, everyone was infected and sick I just-.."

He felt quite guilty for feeling sleepy while he and Karma were supposed to have a serious talk, but he couldn't help but feel tired. He was so battered off from his 'epic' fight with Takaoka he truly didn't feel like he was in the right mind to hold a proper conversation with someone right now.

"Nagi..!" He could hear voices surrounding him, all of a sudden he felt weightless and disoriented. Nagisa could feel the cold, hard, texture of cement.

Nausea overcame him, yet he didn't feel like vomiting or throwing up remains of what he had for dinner. "Nagisa!!.." Tones filled with worry.

Nagisa was confused, why were they worried for him? He didn't want to bother them with his presence.

After all Nagisa was okay, he was okay. (and yet he found that hard to believe.) He felt so uncomfortable and so very cold. His vision was darkening the edges of his eyes blurring, he felt.. groggy and confused. All of a sudden his exhaustion hit him like a brick, only now he had realised how tired he truly was.

It wouldn't hurt to just close his eyes for a second. Just a small blink was all he needed! So he did not resist the wave of unconsciousness that had swept him from his feet as he shut his eyes momentarily before finding himself unable to open them once again.

Maybe it was a wrong move, however right now he found himself not caring; He just wanted to rest after all.
