Work Text:

Jennie Kim groaned when she heard shuffled noises. She opened her eyes and sit up from her bed. She looked around her room. Her gazed passed her bedside table, and her bunny alarm clock showed that it was just 5 minutes past 12 KST. What the hell?

She was about to lay down again when the door of her room opened, revealing their sometimes sweet, often naughty unnie. “Oh, Jen, you’re awake. Good. Let’s go,” Jisoo said and Jennie didn’t even understand what her unnie was saying. She yawned and lay down her bed. The door suddenly burst open and Jennie just grunted when she felt someone tugging the blanket she was using.

“Yah, Jennie Kim!! Wake up already!! We won’t start without you,” someone said and basing from the voice, she was sure it was their maknae.

“It’s midnight for goodness sake. What the hell do you want?” Jennie grumbled and tugged at the blanket to wrap it around her but Lisa pulled the blanket.

“Let’s go out. Now!” Lisa shouted and forcefully dragged Jennie towards the living room.

When they arrived at the living room, through her still sleepy eyes, Jennie saw all her members, crowding their coffee table, Lisa’s laptop on top of it.

“Unnie, sit here,” Miyeon said and tapped the empty space beside her in the couch. Jennie rolled her eyes and tugged at the blanket she had carried and hugged it. Lisa, and Rosé were sitting on the floor while Miyeon and Jisoo sandwiched her in the couch. Lisa played a video on YouTube. Jennie blinked her eyes repeatedly to see if what the video is about. iKON. Oh, so that’s it. The released of iKON’s warm-up single.

Jennie rolled her eyes and leaned her head on Jisoo's shoulder. She was still so sleepy. She closed her eyes and Miyeon gently tapped her unnie’s head. Jennie snuggled on her blanket as Bobby’s deep voice echoed through the room. My type, huh. Jennie was sure this song was about Lee Hi. And of course, Hanbin’s secret love.

She involuntarily smiled when she heard Hanbin’s rap. This guy really. Whoever that girl is, she was so damn lucky. Hanbin was a one-of-a-kind guy. He was one in a million. He could rap, write a song for you, he is caring, though sometimes have anger issues but food can always calm him down. Her smile falter when she heard her ex-boyfriend’s voice. She moved the blanket closer to her nose and his scent infiltrated her sense. Damn, this was his blanket after all.

“Oh my gosh!!!” a piercing screamed wake Jennie up from her already sleepy mind. She abruptly sit on the couch. The girls curiously stared at their unnie, while Miyeon was glaring at Jisoo for the sudden noise.

“Wae? What’s wrong, unnie?” Jennie asked and even put her hand on Jisoo’s arm.

“Did you hear Hanbin’s rap? It was about you, Jen. Finally, he is confessing,” Jisoo said and the girls’ eyes widen.

“Me?” Jennie mumbled and even pointed on herself. Jisoo nodded.

“Listen up, okay,” Jisoo said and replayed the music video, on Hanbin’s rap. Jisoo stopped it when Hanbin’s rap ended. Jennie looked at her unnie, not understanding where the hell did these girls got that thought that the rap was about her. Her members though, seemed to understand.

“Okay. So he talks about a girl. That song is about the girl he likes,” Jennie started to explained and Jisoo excitedly nodded.

“Exactly. Did you listen carefully?” Jisoo asked as she grabbed her own phone and started tapping at it. She was searching for My Type’s lyrics. “Look, read his rap,” Jisoo added and passed the phone to Jennie.

“Your sneakers under your thin ankles. A perfect harmony with your denim skinny jeans. Under your slightly big cardigan. Your falling, long, straight hair is so pretty. Your shy eye smile, the look on your face when you space out. It all looks so pretty to me, it makes my heart tremble. Why did you come now? You’re my type,” Jennie read while Lisa and Rosé were squealing, obviously feeling excited.

“Okay. So how was this about me?” Jennie asked and Miyeon rolled her eyes at the question. She grabbed Jisoo’s phone.

“Unnie, you are so dense, sometimes,” Miyeon said. “Sneakers, denim skinny jeans, slightly big cardigan, long straight hair, eye smile, spacing out,” she enumerated one by one and was even counting it out on her fingers. “Tell me if not even one of these defines Kim Jennie,” Miyeon added and Jennie’e eyes widen.

“That’s true, unnie. You loved wearing sneakers,” Lisa stated which made the girls nodded.

“Your favourite jeans is that skinny denim pants you bought last Christmas,” Rosé added.

“You like to wear that blue cardigan though it was slightly big on you,” Miyeon said her opinion. Jennie’s mouth was agape while listening on her members’ words.

“Hanbin always comment about your hair, Jen,” Jisoo mentioned.

“And of course, he was always staring at you. He was so awkward whenever you smile, you know,” Rosé also remarked.

“And he is so concern whenever you space out,” Lisa added.

Jennie just shook her head as she walked the corridors of YGE. Maldo andwe. How the hell would something like this happened? She was not his type, right? Shiit. She was definitely not her type. Didn’t Hanbin like Hayi? But Hayi was Bobby’s ex-girlfriend or something. This is so f*cked up. She unconsciously ruffled her hair in frustration. She heard a stifled laughter though it was obviously not so supress since she still heard it. She turned and saw the guy she was thinking this moment.

Kim Hanbin smilingly approached her and patted her head. “Another hair style statement?” he jokingly asked but Jennie was busy staring at him. Jennie hated this. She should just asked him, right away. Of course, she knew she wasn’t really her type. Her members just loved ruining her peace of mind.

“You don’t like me, right? I’m not the girl you’re talking about in My Type, right?” Jennie suddenly asked and Hanbin’s eyes widen. He unconsciously took a step backward, his hand that was patting her fell on his side.

“W-what?” he stuttered and Jennie knew what this meant. He was nervous. This made Jennie’s heartbeat to quicken. Damn, no way. He didn’t like her, period.

“It was not me, right?” Jennie mumbled more to herself. She started counting off her hands the reasons why Hanbin wouldn’t like her. “Of course it wasn’t me. Duh. I’m not pretty, I’m not cute, my raps are not good, my vocals too are not that good, I’m not---“ she didn’t finished what she was saying because Hanbin suddenly grabbed her hand. She looked up at him and saw him seriously staring at her.

“Neoneun nae chwihyangjeogyeok(1),” he seriously said and Jennie’s eyes widen at this. “Nan niga jeongmal joha(2),” he added and Jennie nervously laughed. She pulled her hand away and lightly punched his chest.

“That’s not funny. Stop joking,” she said but Hanbin was obviously far from joking and they both know it. "Don’t say that. Please,” Jennie nervously said. She felt her tears rushing to her eyes. She took a deep breath to calm herself down. “Cause seriously, if you really like me, I would definitely hate myself,” she said and tried to smile. Hanbin’s brows creased.

“You were always there for me. You were there whenever I fangirl about my ex-boyfriend before. You were there when we broke up and I wanted to die. You were there when I was trying to move on,” Jennie stated and looked up because she felt her tears threatening to come out. “If you really like me, then I must be really dense. And I hate myself for that. I am hurting you, I’m so sorry,” she added, her voice quivering and she felt her tears fell down her cheeks. Hanbin grabbed her by her shoulders and wrapped his arms around her which only made her cry harder.

“Its fine,” Hanbin said and shook his head. “You were right, though. Every time, I saw you cry because of him, it’s like I was the one being hurt. Every tear that fell cuts through my heart. Every time you try to smile but fail, it felt like I was dying. I’m hating this world. How could someone throw away the girl of my dreams?” he muttered as he slowly pat her head. He leaned away and cupped her cheeks. “I told you, remember? I did move on but I’m still in love with you. I love you but at the same time, I knew I never stood a chance to be your love,” he said and Jennie looked up at him, though her vision was blurry because of her tears.

“Hanbin-ah, jeongmal mianhe,” she apologized but he just shook his head.

“Don’t say sorry. It’s not your fault that you don’t love me,” he said but Jennie really felt apologetic.

“I love you. You know that, right?” Jennie stated and Hanbin nodded and smile though his eyes were already misty.

“I know you love me, though it’s not the way that I wanted you to love me,” he answered. Jennie held his hand on her face and smiled at him.

“Am I selfish to ask if you are still my boy best friend?” Jennie asked, afraid to lose one of the important people in her life.

“No, you’re not selfish. I am the one who is selfish, I wanted to be a part of your life. I’ll always be your best friend. Saranghanda, Jennie Kim,” Hanbin said and pulled her into a hug. Jennie wrapped her arms around his waist.

“I will always love you, too Hanbin-ah,” Jennie whispered and Hanbin smiled though he knew that she only loves him as a friend. At least, he was still loved by her.

Neoneun nae chwihyangjeogyeok – You are my type

Nan niga jeongmal joha – I really like you

Notes:

If y'all curious who Miyeon is, she's now part of G-Idle and as far as YG-stans knew, she was part of PinkPunk (used to be Blackpink's predebut name) but then she left YG just around 2014~2015 so I decided to still wrote her as part of this although technically she left even before iKON debuted.
