The first thing he felt when he woke up was the hard metal that gripped his hands and legs in place. That accompanied with the harsh light the beamed into his optics made the gator tense as he struggled to see around himself.
Wait gator? Yes that was what he was. An American Alligator to be exact, at least a robotic one.
"Ok that should have done it." proclaimed a voice from behind
"Yep, he's moving around. You can come back around."
As the gators eyes adjusted to his surroundings he looked down to see an older woman standing in front of him, she held a clip board in one hand and frantically wrote something down on the paper. From around his left came another person, a younger lad with disheveled hair. He gave the gator a nervous look before standing beside the woman. By now he had noticed that both of them wore overalls with a small logo of a bear wearing a hat on their left side breast pocket, underneath that was a small name tag each holding their names and occupations.
As the woman continued to write on the clip board the gators eyes began to wonder from them and take in his surroundings. He was held on a strange chair that held him at a somewhat uncomfortable angle, he then noticed that he was in the center of a small dome room surrounded by glass that was held within a much larger room, his eyes struggled to see further beyond the smaller room so he began to take in what was closer by. Around him lay a scramble of different machines and wires that he had no clue what they did, near them lay trays that held an array of different tools and gadgets that seemed to be mixed together with hammers and wrenches layered atop each other.
"Kinda creepy huh?" The young mans voice had once again gained his attention along with a glance from the woman. After a moment the man continued, "Why'd ya think they wanted another one of them?"
"Ain't my businesses to know and ain't got enough reason to care. All I know is they'll probably hire some mechanics ta help keep up with repairs." The room then filled with silence as the woman finished writing before taking a step forward. "State ya name and code." she addressed to the gator.
The animatronic thought for a second before speaking. "Montgomery Gator. Serial code B1T3-87." Montgomery. Yes. That was his name.
The woman ticked something on the paper before continuing. "Can ya wiggle ya fingers?" he did so. Tick. "Can ya move ya toes?" he did. Tick. "What's ya backstory?".
"Im'a born and raised gator from New Orleans, Louisiana. I came to Freddy Fazbears Pizzaplex with big dreams of becoming a star and was hired as a back-up instrumentalist but that ain't meaning one day I won't be on that stage preforming for the people." Freddy. That was the name of the lead singer. The mascot of the Brand. Yes it was coming to him now. There was Bonnie The Bassist, Chica The Guitarist and Roxy The Electric Guitarist.
"Heh, they really tryin ta use another accent? Didn't they try that with Chica a while ago?" The mans question was left unanswered as the woman continued. She asked the gator different questions, they arranged from more personal questions on who he was to what to do in different emergency and how he should act in front out guests.
After the questions were through she walked over to one of the machines and pressed a few buttons. The restraints that had held Monty then flipped away releasing his wrists and legs from their prisons. Monty groaned as he flexed his wrists, it was good to not be tied to the chair anymore. As he did the chair then began to tilt forward allowing the animatronic to stand on his two feet at last. The youngin took a step back fully gauging the true size of the gator, he was a good half foot taller than than him and a good foot taller than the woman. Once on his legs Monty approached one of the glass windows giving the man a slight fright at his movement. Once near the window he did not look through to see the outside room but rather used the reflection to look at himself. The first thing he noticed were his eyes, they glowed in a red fury as he looked into them, he traced a hand near them before trailing them down his snout where a purple lightning bolt was placed in the center before bringing them back up to his mohawk that matched the colour of his eyes. His plates were green and his underbelly was a mustard yellow that on his chest created a spiked pattern near his shoulders, on them laid a pair of shoulder pads that matched the colour of his lightning bolt. He then looked at the pants he wore, they seemed to look like they were made out of alligator skin as some kind of joke and where held up on his waist by a spiked belt.
Montgomery looked at himself a little longer drinking in his reflection before raising his hands. He wore what looked like gloves and his nails were sharp, he pressed a finger lightly on one and slowly pressed down feeling the mettle bend ever so slightly with his touch. After a moment he grasped his hands within one another before dragging his right hand up his arm and across the spiked bracelet.
"Whoa there big guy, take it slow. Ya'll have all the time in the world ta look at ya self in the mirror once these checks are done." Monty turned to the woman, holding her eyes for a moment, before returning to the chair.
She continued to go down the list asking questions about himself and testing his movements and reflexes. She asked him to play a variety of instruments and sing, by the end Monty felt tired as his joints ached from carrying out so many tests. Luckily the woman had seemed to sigh off on the piece of paper before placing it down. Her companion had stood by the controls the entire time shifting his wait from either foot and eyeing Monty for any erratic movement.
"Is that it now" the man asked impatiently finally taking his eyes from Monty.
The woman stretched, her old bones protesting at the movement, before she answered. "Yep, just need to shut 'im down before we can leave."
Monty froze. Shut him down. What. But he had only just come online. He hadn't even left the room to see what was outside. "Shut down?" He questioned. "I ain't even done nothin' yet."
"And ya won't for another few weeks. Ya ain't ready yet and we still need ta patch up more of ya software, not to mention get ya connected to the network."
"Wait please." He took a step towards the woman, eyes pleading, causing her to stiffen up. "Ya ain't gotta switch me off for that, surely ya can do it whilst i'm still online." Another step. "I won't even squirm or make a peep if it'll hurt me. I just can't go back in the dark." And another."Please! I'm beggin ya! Ple-" and if that he went blank. Stopping mid stride as the light in his eyes went off.
The man held the button down, his fingers shaking as he looked at the animatronic that was barely a foot away from his co-worker. "Well that was close." He said with a shaken voice. "Could'a grabbed ya if I was a bit later."
"He wouldn'ta hurt me. He was just a bit scared." She said as she looked at the offline Monty. "And he won't come back online if ya take ya hand off that button." With a slow hand he let go of the button before letting out a sigh and wiping a dribble of sweat from his brow.
After that, that had been them done for the day. All the gators sensors and coding seemed to work just fine. He would be ready to make his grand debut on time. And with that they left the gator standing there, his body an unmoving statue in the silence of parts and services.
