Chapter 1: Pink Flamingo

Chapter Text

Don Lamb was at his desk in the sheriff’s office leaning back perusing the swimsuit edition of Sports Illustrated. It had been a long day, not necessarily a hard day that’s what the deputies were there for, but still it was pushing 10pm and Don had started the day with an interview at 7AM. “Guess it’s time I head out. Could probably stop by the bar and see the girls, should be late enough by time I get there.” He smirked to himself as he grabbed his coat and headed out of the precinct, not even waving at the front desk as he left. Only two people were left in the office a night clerk and one of the deputies assigned to watch the cells. Neither paid Lamb any attention as he left.

On the drive to Lamb’s apartment he made a not so quick detour to one of his favorite bar’s, the Pink Flamingo. Lamb grabbed a seat at the end of the dimly lit bar where none of the patrons spared him a glance. Soon enough the blonde bartender appeared in front of him with his preferred beer, and as she turned to walk away he reached out and pinched her ass with a wink.

He loved this bar. All the waitresses and bartenders knew him and better yet they didn’t charge him since he looked the other way on their lax ID policy. The other clientèle were lacking but Lamb had made most of his career on the backs of the unsavory part of Neptune. Sure if you lie with dogs you may get fleas but you also get the support of the dogs and the perks that come with it, and Neptune was full of dogs.

Two hours and five more beers later Lamb met the eyes of a brunette waitress who winked at him. Five minutes after that he made his way to a back hallway behind the bar. There in the dingy dark corner the waitress was already on her knees for him. She had an older brother who was regularly getting into trouble, her and Lamb had worked out a little arrangement months ago.

It took him longer than it should have to get off due to his slightly inebriated state, but once the deed was done Don Lamb felt no sense of relief. He hadn’t felt much relief in years it seemed. Still he wasn’t going to stop trying, eventually something would feel good again. Lamb clumsily did up his pants and staggered out to the parking lot debating with himself if he should sleep it off at a nearby hotel or not. A couple of guys were fighting in the parking lot as Lamb stumbled toward the road. They were shoving and shouting at each other as more patrons gathered around. The argument was soon escalating to a brawl and one man was shoved in the direction of Lamb. He ignored them, it wasn’t his problem anyway. The last thing Lamb heard before his head hit the pavement was the sound of yelling and a bottle breaking.
