Summary:

Ellyn and Cassandra write back and forth on Dragonstone in preparation for the move to Driftmark...

Work Text:

Ellyn,

Ellyn!, how on earth did you get mother to pack you some of your purple gowns? She'd only let me bring my gowns in Baratheon colors. Did you sneak them in? I can't believe we are packing for a third time. And that we can't even go to King's Landing but are going to Driftmark!

Cass,

She let me because I asked nicely, also because I am so much younger and I dare say she hoped the pastel purples might remind Luke and Aemond of that. You are plenty old enough to know you are supposed to wear house colors. Also we are going to Driftmark as now that Luke is wed, Lord Corlys wants him closer to begin learning his role there and to let the people there grow to know Luke. Jacaerys won't be going to King's Landing either when he returns, they'll be remaining on Dragonstone now that it's his.

Ellyn,

It isn't fair, we should have blue things now at least yet we've barely any, even though we married into house Velaryon. Also red as we are married into house Tagaryen. Those are our husband's colors. We'll be living on Driftmark, can't we have some blue?

Cass,

Do stop whining, which of us is the elder again? We are more bound to our birthhouse colors do to the oddness of our marriage. But worry not, we will likely get some blue and red things by and by, we've been married only little over a month. Lucerys have already given us both seahorse jewelry in that time. Larger events have been happening that took precedence over our wardrobes, plus we can't dress to much like Rhaena and Helaean, they are princesses by birth, Helaena was briefly a queen, we are princesses but by marriage.

Ellyn,

It is just so dull wearing the same to colors day in and day out. Also don't be player the more mature card on me, I am expecting Luke's child! I'm still vexed that Rhaena beat me to becoming pregnant...my child might have been the hair to Driftmark if I had them first. Also given our connection to the Targaryen's we ought to have a higher rank...father always swore I'd be a Queen...

Cass,

Father swore a lot of things, and can't keep to oaths sworn by his own father, nor even remember the manner of our relationship to house Targaryen, we are still lucky Princess Rhaenys opted to not reduce Storm's End to slag. Yu were never going to be Queen sister, Helaena and Aegon were betrothed and then married very early. Helaena was thirteen. And yes, I am well aware of your state of pregnancy, you haven't been quiet about it. By the seven do not let anyone hear or read such words about heirs. Luke and Rhaena's eldest child was always to be heir to Driftmark, not Luke's eldest alone. I do not understand you sister, we are Princesses, we have two husbands who are gentle, we've no need to worry about being forced to bear children until we die, we are the Queen's good-daughters. We shall likely want for nothing in life. Our children will ride dragons. Your babe, growing in your womb shall be given an egg at birth to be placed in their cradle...focus not so much on things that were never father's to promise and embrace what we have.

Ellyn,

Haven't you any ambition? You used to like the idea of being a Queen.

Cass,

When we were all small girls playing with dolls. Being Queen meant wearing a pretty crown and having everyone tell you how wonderful you are. A sight different than reality. Also what ambition should I have? We are wed to two princes, one the heir of Driftmark the other rides the largest dragon in the world, our sister-wives are sweet and kind...our goodmother is kind to us and does not resent us for our father's faithlessness. I know I say be content but really, what else might you even want? We bear the title Princess now, our children will be princes and princesses...

Ellyn,

I suppose you are right...truly you went from a child to a old woman without any stop between.

Cass,

Hardly, Rhaena and I snuck to the kitchens in Storms End and swiped raspberry tarts to eat together the last night we were there. We would have invited you but you were to busy sulking about Aemond spending the night with Helaena...who he just married.

Ellyn,

Was it to much to ask for some attention?

Cass,

He danced with you. I do not begrudge his wanting to have Helaena and Luke to himself on their wedding night to Helaena. Aemond has loved her long. Again, we shall have our entire lives...have patience and compassion Cass.

Ellyn,

We can't all be the Mother come to earth. Plus with the addition of Helaean we have lost more right of precedence, first we are after Rhaena in right, now Helaena too... I do wonder also at Aemond's liking her so much, she's so very odd, and did you see all the insects that have been arriving? Her "collection" as they call it.

Cass,
Have you nothing better to do than have your maid run back and forth with notes? Besides complaining I mean. I am last in precedence and you don't see me fussing. Insects are what Helaena likes and she can talk about them for hours. Also you were mooning over Aemond the entire time we prepared for our wedding and you didn't know him at all. Helaena is all things sweet and she and Aemond are so lovely together.

Ellyn,
She's my maid, she'll do as I say. Also it is a woman's duty to "moon" as you say over her husband. You were quite taken with Lucerys. How come you call him Aemond now, I thought you were to intimidated.

Cass,
After finding out how secretly sweet he can be. My feet and legs were dead after dancing so long at the farewell feast, so he actually lifted me slightly so my feet rested on his toes while he twirled us about. I was ever so grateful and it was delightfully fun. My skirts were long enough to hide it. After that it seemed foolish to continue to be formal with him when he does not ask it. And it's not like I've stopped mooning, Luke is lovely. I am now also happily mooning over Aemond, who is equally lovely. Both in their ways are exactly what prince's ought to be. Now I'm going to stop writing back, I also have packing to do so cease your malingering. Just remember we'll be near Spicetown and Hull which are both docks and undoubtedly full of trade good. Odds are you shall be able to find plenty of fine fabric for new gowns.
