Regret

Summary:

Ulster reminisces.

Work Text:

Ulster can't sleep.

He hasn't been able to sleep for a while.

All he sees are blue eyes widening in shock for half a second before-

He opens his eyes.

He goes over that day over and over and over again, always trying to remember if there was anything, anything different about the day that- that Lord Seliph disappeared.

The day that Seliph disappeared.

All things considered, there wasn't much they could do, when their all supposed to be in hiding.

Oifey, looking like he'd aged a decade overnight, had held onto hope that Lewyn would have answers for them, whenever he decided to show up.

Lewyn had finally, finally appeared a month after the fact, heard them out, heard their pleas for answers, pursed his lips, told them all he'd see what he could do, than left.

They haven't seen him since.

Oifey has been going out day and night to search Tirnanog top to bottom. Shannan has been discussing of leaving them to search elsewhere, but Ulster isn't supposed to know that yet.

Edain hasn't been as subtle about her grief as she thinks.

Larcei shifts against him, already taking up two thirds of the bed space, snoring softly.

They haven't slept together since they were seven.

He remembers how one particularly cold night, six young children had put their heads together and realized if they slept in the same beds with each other, they could stack their blankets on top of each other and share. They'd only really stopped when they'd grown too large for the bed.

He remembers how Seliph used to sleep with the two of them.

He doesn't think he's going to be getting any sleep any time soon.
