Work Text:

I go out to work on Monday morning

Remus loved his job. He loved his job. He loved his job. He loved his job. That’s what he had to keep repeating to himself over and over again as the last of his class filed out for the day and made their noisy voices known throughout the halls. After teaching for five years he had hoped he’d get the hang of a group of rowdy kids who didn’t want to be sitting inside a classroom anymore, but it never did seem to get easier. By the end of the day his coffee had worn off, his body was aching, and his brain was the equivalent of scrambled eggs.

And of course there were the essays.

Oh the essay he said he would grade two weeks ago but didn’t get around to it because he had a doctor’s appointment, and then Teddy got sick, and then he had to take time off of work, then he–

Well, he just never got around to it.

Lily was picking Teddy up from school today and Remus was going to be forced to stay inside the walls of this damned room until he got through the giant stack of papers needing to be graded. He should’ve done it over the weekend but his boyfriend spoiled him too much and “Oh, Moons, just do it tomorrow. Stay in bed with me”. How could he possibly say no to that?

The stack of papers laughed at him and his cozy weekend.

*

He managed to get through the first seven papers before a knock filled the room. He perked up and rubbed at his eyes before clearing his throat. “Come in.”

No kids should still be on campus at this point and any teachers still here were here to catch up on missed work over the weekend.

The door opened to reveal neither a kid nor a teacher and instead his very handsome boyfriend somehow looking like a model even after working all day.

“Hi, thought you could use some food.”

“Fuck.” Remus hadn’t eaten since lunch and he was a minute away from giving in and eating the emergency granola bar he kept at the bottom of his bag that had been squashed beyond repair.

“That’s what I thought.” Sirius smirked and walked into the room, shutting it with his foot behind him before making his way over to Remus’ desk. “Just a sandwich from the deli across from work, nothing special–”

“It’s perfect and I love it and I love you.” Remus smiled as Sirius came over and placed a gentle kiss to his lips.

Maybe grading papers wasn’t so bad after all.

Tuesday, I go off to honeymoon

“I think we should take a vacation.” Sirius was sitting on the floor playing blocks with Teddy while Remus watched from the couch, heat packs laid across both of his aching legs. It should’ve been a wheelchair day but he pushed himself too far, trying to prove some stupid point. That he didn’t need the extra help, that he was ‘normal’, that –

“Moons?”

“Hm?”

“Vacation?”

“Oh. I don’t really have the time with school in session and you know I don’t make enough money on my salary.

“Don’t worry about the money. It’ll be my treat. I want to take you somewhere special, get away for a bit. You’ve been working so much and you deserve a break.”

“Break.” Teddy repeated to himself, pushing over the tower in front of him, clearly no longer interested. He got his attention span from his mother, that was for sure.

“Yeah, you, me, and Daddy are going to go on a break, doesn’t that sound fun?” Sirius pushed himself up from the ground once Teddy went off to go find something else to play with, no longer interested in their vacation plans.

“Sirius, c’mon. I can’t just drop everything and travel to some fancy place for the week. One, I have no more sick time left and two, I’m no fun in airports.”

Sirius sat down on the couch, moving Remus’ legs on top of his lap and readjusting the heat packs. “Who said anything about fancy travel and airplanes?” Remus gave him a knowing look and Sirius just smiled at him. “Let’s just go to the seaside for the weekend. Friday’s are early off days so we can leave after school and come back Sunday evening. You can even bring your work with you.”

Remus contemplated it for a moment, though there was nothing that was seriously hindering his ability to go. So long as Teddy and his work could come, then they could make it work.

“Fine, but you’re keeping Teddy entertained for the four hour train ride there.”

“Deal.” Sirius grinned and held out his hand for Remus to shake.

Bicycling on every Wednesday evening

Remus was sitting in his front garden, cigarette between his fingers while Sirius tinkered away on his bike. Teddy was off at a friend’s house and they didn’t need to get him until supper. The weather was slowly getting warmer as they got closer to summer, though it was still chilly enough to wear a jumper.

Sirius sauntered over to where Remus was sitting after a while, plopping down on the step and swiping the cigarette right out of his boyfriend’s hand.

“Finished?”

“Mhm, easy fix. Just needed one part replaced.”

Remus took the cigarette back and took the last drag from it before stubbing it out in the ashtray sitting by the flower pot.

“You look very sexy over there.”

“Oh yeah? You have a thing for mechanics?” Sirius nudged Remus’ side with a smirk, Remus rolling his eyes and leaning over to kiss Sirius briefly.

“No, more so a thing for you.”

“Sappy.”

Remus hummed in response and they kissed a while longer until Remus thought they were approaching not appropriate for front lawn behavior and pulled apart.

“Take a ride with me?” Sirius brought his hand up and brushed Remus’ curls away from his hazel eyes.

“Are you insane?”

“Possibly so, but I still think you should have a ride with me. Just around the block, I have an extra helmet and I won’t go too fast.”

“Love, I can’t even walk on my own–”

“Yeah, nothing to lose if we crash.” Sirius jumped up and held his hand out for Remus, one eyebrow raised.

“Cheeky fucker.”

“C’mon. It’ll be fun. We can play out all those dirty fantasies you have of me on the bike.”

“Excuse me! I don’t have any dirty fantasies.” Well, he did, but sue him. Sirius was fucking hot.

They stared at each other in complete silence, Sirius’ hand outstretched to Remus.

“Fuck.” Remus reached for his hand and allowed Sirius to help him up. “Fine. Just one loop around the block though.” His wheelchair was inside and he didn’t want to bother with both his crutches so instead he let Sirius help him over. He used to be embarrassed by the support he needed but the longer they were together, the more Remus grew comfortable with Sirius seeing him at his worst and loving him anyway.

Sirius helped Remus get his helmet on before getting them both situated on the bike. Remus wrapped his arms tightly around Sirius’ middle and squeezed his eyes shut. “If we die, Black, I’m going to kill you.”

Thursday, I go waltzing to the zoo

“Teddy wants to go to the zoo.” Remus had his phone pressed between his ear and his shoulder as he wheeled himself through the narrow halls of the school.

“Well good morning to you too, sunshine.” Sirius chuckled from his end of the phone.

“Morning.” Remus had been up for far too long this morning, Teddy having way more energy than normal. Molly had come to pick him up for daycare though so at least he’d get his energy out with the rest of the rowdy kids. “Teddy mentioned the zoo six different times this morning and he really wants to go today. I was wondering if you’d come with us, you know I’m no fun in crowds and he’ll be able to get closer to the animals if you go with him.”

“I’d love to go to the zoo with you two. Shall I come pick you up after school?”

“Yes, please. Love you.”

“Love you too.”

*

The day passed as fast as a Wednesday could, Sirius sending a few animal related emojis as a way to keep Remus excited. He was excited, sure, but it was also the busy zoo with a toddler and a wheelchair. He had Sirius though and that made things easier.

“Hi, love.” Sirius was leaning against his car as Remus rolled himself through the car lot with a smile.

“Hi, looking stunning as always.” Remus carefully pushed himself up from his chair, allowing Sirius to help settle him into the front seat of the car.

Sirius quickly got Remus’ chair situated in the boot of the car before joining his boyfriend in the front.

They set off to pick up Teddy, who could hardly contain his excitement when Remus let him know where they were going to be spending their afternoon. Well, he didn’t contain his excitement. Poor kid burst into tears from pure joy. Remus knew it was wrong to laugh at his son’s crying but he was just too precious.

Teddy babbled the entire drive there and the entire walk to the entrance and the entire time they explored the different exhibits.

It wasn’t until they got to the end of the zoo where the tigers were that the exhaustion finally hit the small boy. He walked up to Remus and crawled right onto his lap, just like he had been doing since he was a baby. Remus wrapped his arms around his son and held him securely, giving Sirius a soft smile.

“I’ll push you.” Remus hated other people pushing him in his chair but he’d give anything to keep Teddy comfortable.

“Thank you.” Remus tilted his head back to look at Sirius. “And thank you for taking us to the zoo.”

Fridays, I go painting in the Louvre

“We should go to the Louvre sometime.” Sirius was sketching a new logo for his shop while Remus sat across from him at the table, sipping tea and reading over the last of the essays he had to finish before they headed out to the coast.

“Oh okay, shall we go tonight? Make a quick trip and return by supper?”

“Har har.” Sirius gently kicked Remus under the table, receiving a kick right back in return. “No, I just mean someday. I don’t have very fond memories of being in France, my mother tainted it all for me, but I do remember the Louvre. Regulus and I had to spend the day there once while my mother and father did work for some exhibit. We snuck off and looked at everything, making up stories to go with all the paintings and sculptures. It’s one of my favorite memories with him.”

“How old were you?”

“I was 9 and he was 7…just babies, really.”

“Mm…thank you for telling me.” Regulus was a rough topic for Sirius and Remus knew better than to bring him up without Sirius’ consent. Sirius didn’t talk about him often, only in the dead of nights when he woke up from a nightmare or as fond memories, like today.

“I always wanted to go back with him one day, when we were older. See if it was different, if it still felt like our made up fantasies and stories.” Sirius sighed and dropped the pen he was doodling with. “Then the stupid fucker went off and got himself killed.”

“Love…”

“Sorry…just in a mood, I guess. I do really want us to go sometime though, Teddy too. Maybe when he’s a bit older and can enjoy it more.”

“I’d love that.” Remus pushed himself up from the table and made his way over to Sirius, leaning down to kiss the top of his head. “And I love you.”

I'm bound to be proposing on a Saturday night

Remus pulled out of Sirius with a groan, flopping his aching body next to his boyfriend. Sirius’ chest was heaving up and down harshly, his stomach and chest coated in white stripes.

“Fuck. Never gets old.” Sirius grinned dopily over at Remus, who was catching his own breath and pushing his sweaty curls away from his flushed face.

“My legs could fully go out of commission one day and I’d still find a way to fuck you into tomorrow.” Remus pushed himself up with a grin. “And that’s a promise.” He shot a wink to Sirius before swinging his legs off the mattress. “Come take a bath with me…”

“I can’t. I’m jelly. Dead. Deceased. Can never move again.” Sirius whined, just as he always did post orgasm. He turned into a clingy mess who couldn’t be bothered to as much as lift his head up to drink a glass of water.

“Oh, I’m sure you can manage. If you join me, maybe I’ll reward you, hm?”

That got Sirius out of bed quicker than anything, a grin on both of their faces as Sirius led them to the bathroom. He set their bath up, and helped Remus in first before settling in himself.

Remus snaked his arms around his boyfriend and nuzzled his face into the back of his neck, inhaling the warm tobacco scent.

Sirius did a quick job at washing the front of his body off before settling back against Remus with a content hum.

“You know I love you, yeah?” Remus placed a few pecks to the back of Sirius’ neck, causing the older boy to ever so slightly squirm. He was always so sensitive there and Remus couldn’t get enough of it.

“Marry me.”

“What?” This got Remus to stop, fully pulling away from Sirius.

Sirius pushed away from Remus and turned around in the tub, causing water to splash over the edge and over soak the thin bath mat.

“Marry me.”

“Sirius, what–”

“I had this whole speech planned out. It was going to be beautiful and I was going to have James and Lily and Harry waiting for us back home with an engagement party set up. I have a ring and everything, it’s in my bag in the room but…” Sirius took a breath and grabbed Remus’ hand. “I don’t need a fancy speech to tell you how much I adore you. Every inch of you. How I adore every day we spend together, every night we fall asleep on the phone when we can’t be together. How much I adore Teddy and our bond we’ve created over the last few years. You mean the world to me, Moons. Labels don’t mean anything, I know, but I would absolutely love it if you would be my husband.”

“Yes.” Remus felt warm tears flood his eyes, biting back a huge smile as he scanned Sirius’ face for any hint he may be joking.

“Yes?”

“Yes, you cheesy motherfucker, of course I’ll marry you.”

Lazing on a Sunday afternoon

He’s going to be so excited when we tell him.” Remus held up his hand to admire the ring in the morning light while Sirius lay with his head on his fiance’s chest. It was just past nine in the morning and both boys had no plans to leave. Well, no plans until the little gremlin across the hall decided it was time to start the day.

They had both been up privately celebrating their new engagement and had a feeling today was going to be another emotional day. They had so many people to tell and a four hour train ride to catch back home.

“I hope. I’m always a little worried he’ll bring up Dora. At some point he’s going to start asking more questions.” Remus had done his best to explain what happened, but how do you explain death to a four year old? How do you look a kid in the eyes and say: “the women I loved most and the women who loved you most is dead”. Remus will never not love her, but it’s different now. He had Sirius, he was building a new family, Teddy was getting older. Changes were upon them.

“And when that point comes you’ll have the answers and you’ll have me. I’m here to support the both of you in whatever ways I can.”

“I know, and I love you for it.” Remus finally dropped his hand, instead moving it to gently stroke through Sirius’ curls.

“I love you.” Sirius whispered, nuzzling into Remus’ chest.

Soft footsteps padded across the hall a few moments later, pausing right outside Remus and Sirius’ room. Remus smiled and turned his head to the door, an eyebrow raised as it slowly creaked open and Teddy popped his head in.

“Are you sleeping?” He whispered, stuffed black dog clutched in his hand.

“Nope, come here.” Remus gently nudged Sirius up and opened up his arm in invitation for Teddy to come snuggle. For how much energy he had during the day, he couldn’t resist a little cuddle with his dad in the mornings.

Teddy crawled up onto the bed and made himself comfortable between the two of them, snuggling right into Remus’ side.

“Teds, there’s something we have to tell you.”

“Okay.”

“Me and Sirius are getting married.”

Teddy nodded his head as if Remus just told them they were having toast for breakfast.

“What’s married?”

“It’s what people do when they really love each other. It’s an official way to show their love. We’ll have a wedding too with a big party and a huge cake.” Remus tickled Teddy’s side which caused him to giggle and squirm around.

“Can I have some of the cake?”

“Well of course.” Remus smiled at him, Sirius matching the grin and looking down at Teddy.

“Will you be like Mr. Arthur and Miss Molly? They’re married, right?”

“Yes they are.”

“So you’ll have babies in here too? Like Miss Molly?” Teddy patted Remus’ stomach, poking it as if there was a baby in there right now.

Sirius bit back a smirk at this, Remus ignoring the look on his face.

“Not quite.” Remus brushed back Teddy’s curls. “But we’ll be one big family. Sirius is going to move in with us too, is that okay?”

“Will I have to share my room?”

“No, you won’t have to share your room. I’ll share my room with him.”

“Hm…” Teddy contemplated this for a moment before nodding. “Yes, it’s okay then. That means we can have more time to play!”

“Yeah, Teds. Yeah it does.” Sirius smiled at the little boy.

His Family.
