A cat, sunbeam, and dinner

Summary:

Just a post-cannon oneshot about Francine's life after St Jude's

Work Text:

Francine was standing by the window. The piercing late afternoon sunlight hurt her eyes a bit, but it was fine, she thought. It was nice. It felt warm, and it kept her focused, and Terry’s purrs from her arms meant that she liked it, too.

The last few days had been difficult again, especially with Eddie so busy with his shifts at the supermarket in between trying to get that loan for that teen center they’ve been trying so hard to get open. She’s glad he’s doing it, of course. She wishes, though, that the secretary jobs she’d been applying for would get back to her. She wishes the damn bankers would approve the loan already so they could open the center. She wishes she could be doing something. And it’s just harder to stay out of her head when she’s more often than not just sitting in her and Eddie’s flat alone most of the day. She had to let Eddie take her fags with him to work most of the week after she’d spiraled a bit too far on Monday.

Terry helps though, she thinks, shaking her head to clear it, smiling a little and petting the kitten’s head gently. She’s never had Terry during a rough bit before, and taking care of the kitten has kept her afloat more than anything else has before. And now it’s Saturday, and Eddie’ll be home in less than an hour, and maybe Francine cannae shake the pit in her chest but still, the sunlight feels nice. And it’s Saturday, so Campbell will come over after his show and they'll all go visit Rosalie together for dinner.

The sunlight is warm and good, and so is Rosalie, and Eddie, and Campbell, and Terry. And Francine will be okay.
