Work Text:
“I give,” Sephiroth surrendered, breathing heavily. Genesis wheeled away, astonished. He let out a cry of triumph, casting Rapier aside.
Under the elation and glory of victory, a feeling, raw and harsh, surfaced within him. Genesis registered the all too familiar sting of tears. Before he could stop himself, he was sobbing, curling in on himself and gasping for air. Relief and triumph and something he nor anyone else could name washed over and through him. Genesis had finally won.
“I’m finally….goddess above, I’m finally enough,” Genesis managed to choke out. His shoulders shook and tears streamed down his face but he was so fucking proud.
Sephiroth stood there dumbfounded. Genesis…Genesis should be smug. Insufferably so, but…this? Upon instinct, Sephiroth dropped to his knees, pulling the crying man into his arms.
“You were always enough, Genesis. Always. Worthy enough, good enough, smart enough, strong enough. You are worthy; you are…my equal. There is no hate, only joy….isn’t that the line?”
Genesis looked up at him, furiously wiping the tears from his face. He opened and closed his mouth, trying and failing to speak. He finally regained his ability to form words.
In his emotionally charged state, he wasn’t fully able to think about his actions. Which is why Genesis blurted out,
“Goddess, I think I’m in love with you.”
