Suguru was overjoyed, He couldn't believe himself as he walked through the university's gate, He walked around the other students observing everything in his surrounding with wide eyes and awed smile.
There are a lot of people here, Students, just like him.
Suguru can't help but feel super enthusiastic to be here, Since his mother told him long years ago about that university he looked forward to be one of the lucky ones who got the chance to study here.
He still don't believe that he had the scholarship after so many attempts and so many tests, After all he wasn't rich and didn't come from a wealthy family, All he had was his brain and well, He's not an arrogant but he was gifted with a an intelligent brain and he didn't find a problem to blend in with anything he was put in , He was smart and fast learner and had some good skills he could use to his advantage.
He was poor and hardly had any good amount of money at hand but he didn't complain, he can be enjoy the smallest things he gets to have.
Greedy people are the ones who loses the most and Suguru isn't greedy and accept what can be offered to him.
this is why he was over the moon when he got the mail that he was accepted to the Tokyo University, He really tried hard but deep down he was almost sure that it was all going to be in vain.
but it didn't! and he finally got the chance to fulfill his dream in one of the most famous and luxurious educational places in Japan.
Honestly it's a big step in his life, He had never been out of his home since he was seven years old, He feels a little out of place walking in the wide ground and seeing unfamiliar faces, everything is exiting and beautiful and yet Suguru still feels anxious, He's afraid that he won't get any friends and will be an outcast and weird and alone and.....God! he doesn't want to be alone it's the worst feeling ever!!
Since he didn't even live in Japan he felt like an outsider alien who doesn't know shit, And well he doesn't!! he came from a Chinese village that he was raised in by his mother told grandpa and then his mother died when he was eleven and he stayed with his grandpa and two foster sisters.
He's more used to the quite simple lifestyle, And being here with all the traffic noises and huge buildings and the huge amount of people everywhere makes him feel a hint of panic but he control it by taking deep breaths and swallowing down his nervousness.
It's okay, He is not a baby he's nineteen for the fuck's sake and he'll be fine by himself in this big city and big campus, He can speak Japanese flauntly all thanks to his dear mother and he well be brave, For his mother, For his grandpa, And for Nanako and Mimiko for sure.
Suguru was finally starting to get optimistic as he smiled a little picking up his speed into the campus until he bumped into someone causing to the drink in their hand to fall in the floor with a small click.
Suguru gasped taking a step back as he looked at that person with wide eyes, It's a boy with brown fluffy hair and big brown eyes.
Suguru jumped back into his anxious self again "I'm so sorry I didn't mean to hit you and waste your drink!"he apologized hastily with a loud voice and short breath looking very guilty as if he just committed an awful crime while the boy blinked at him in surprise.
"Whoa! It's okay, It's all good"he was fast to reassure him rising his hands in the air before giving Suguru a kind smile "Besides, You didn't hit me we just bumped into each other"he corrected him in amusement with a small laugh that caused Suguru to open his mouth in shock before gritting his teeth at himself, He was just thanking the destiny for his good language and then at the first real conversation he gets confused between hitting and bumping, How fucking stupid.
Suguru let out a fake laugh rubbing his neck "Ah! I know that, I was just nervous"he said hoping he'd buy his half assed excuse as he watched him nod with the same kind smile.
"It's totally fine it happens"he said with a shrug as he bent down to take the plastic empty cup and toss it into the trash can that is near them.
Suguru chewed on his lip as he frowned "I'm still feeling bad about your drink, Let me buy you another one, please"Suguru said knowing damn well that he's not in the position to offer someone any drinks or food but he'll be damned if he didn't make it up for that kind person.
However he waved Suguru off with a cheerful smile "No need! it was almost finished anyway!"he dismissed shaking his head and Suguru furrowed his eyebrows.
"Still, I ruined your last sip"He insisted genuinely upset as the guy snorted slightly causing Suguru to look at him in utter confusion.
Was he saying something funny?!
"Come on don't be dramatic it's really nothing"he reassured Suguru again smiling widely and Suguru felt a little stupid, Maybe it's really nothing, Maybe he's overreacting just because he learned to appreciate every piece and every sip of food looking at how he rarely got the chance to have a good meal, or even have a meal at all, there was days when they ate only bread, Maybe bread and tea afterwards if they were lucky.
He shook his head to get rid of those memories as he smiled politely "Whatever, I'd like to make it up to you somehow"he said calmly watching him roll his eyes fondly and then nodding.
"Well we can be friends then"He suggested as he pretended to run his chin thoughtfully causing Suguru to perk up happily as his smile widened automatically.
Holy shit he was going to have a friend!! in his first day! how lucky can he be?!
"Off course! I'd love that"he said with an embarrassingly joyful tone causing the other to giggle at his excitement.
He probably looks like a happy child who is exited to have his very first friend.
But he couldn't care less about how he looks because he's literally having his first friend!
"Thank god then, I'm Haibara Yuu by the way, nice to meet you"He said in amusement offering his hand which Suguru took into an eager handshake without a second thought.
"Nice to meet you too, I'm Getuo Suguru"he said with a newfound energetic tone feeling overjoyed by meeting this nice and kind person and getting the chance to be friends with.
Haibara Yuu looked really sweet and kind so he didn't hesitate that offer.
Haibara beamed in return "Cool name! you are not from here though are you?"Haibara questioned rising a brow startling Suguru by his fast assumption.
was he this obvious?!
"Um....Yes I came from China, But my mother is Japanese we just lived there"he clarified and then leaned closer to him looking around suspiciously.
"Is my language that bad?"he asked worriedly lowering his voice as if someone hears him they will kick him out of here for his shitty language.
Haibara furrowed his eyebrows genuinely confused by his question "No, not at all, Actually your language is excellent, It's just the accent"Haibara explained and Suguru frowned deeply looking at his feet "damnit"he murmured under his breath feeling really disappointed.
Maybe he should have practiced more to improve his accent, He thought he was a pro in the japanese accent, He thought he mastered it very well, Nanako assured him!
Noticing the upset thoughtful face he was making Haibara smiled and nudged his shoulder gently "It's not that obvious! I just noticed it because I'm very smart!"Haibara said in justification wiggling his eyebrows jokingly causing Suguru to giggle a little.
Haibara seems like a pretty funny person.
"So, where were you going before you hit me?"Haibara asked with a teasing grin at the end causing Suguru to giggle again before sighing as they walked side by side inside the campus.
"I was trying to find my way to the dorms, I still don't know where it is"he told him gesturing at his big suitcase he was dragging with him along with the backpack dangling from his left shoulder.
Haibara hummed in understanding "It's pretty difficult when it's your first day, I'll take to the principal's assistant office so you can take your keys and also your lectures schedule"Haibara affirmed kindly and Suguru gave him a grateful smile.
He couldn't believe how nice Haibara is, or is it because Suguru never had any friends in his life?! Maybe all the colleagues are like that to each other and nothing is bad like they show in the movies.
That's a relief.
However, he's thankful for his luck to corss his path with Haibara in his first day , he'll accept his kindness gladly.
"By the way what's your major?"Haibara asked to fill the silence and get to know more about Suguru as they blended in with the crowded campus.
Suguru smiled a little excitedly "Humanities! what about you, Haibara-kun?"he asked curiously tilting his head causing his long bang to brush against his lef eye before he rise his hand and push it away looking at Haibara who kept smiling cheerfully all along.
"No need to call me that we're friends now remember?"Haibara said giving him a pointed look as he nudged him playfully.
Suguru smiled sheepishly and sighed "What would like me to call you? I know here in Japan most of people like to keep it formal so it's a little hard to address them in the right way"Suguru justified rubbing his own arm anxiously and Haibara nodded in understanding.
"I get it, You can call people around your age with their surname and for the older you call them with their surname with San just to be respectful"Haibara helped as he explained easily and Suguru nodded in interest.
Haibara then added "But for me you can call me by my given name, Yuu is fine"with a bright smile and happy tone, Suguru smiled too and nodded happily.
"Okay Yuu, so what is your major?"
"Oh you won't guess, we're the same major!"He announced joyfully and Suguru's eyes widened for a bit before his lips formed a big smile.
"For real?! that's really good! we'd get to hangout a lot"Suguru said seeming very pleased with that causing Haibara to beam more happily at his sweet excitement.
Suguru wondered if his day could get any better, He has a friend now and they're in the same classes too, He won't feel lonely ever here.
He's really grateful for god making his life and his luck this nice.
They entered the University building and he was more awed by how much everything looks fancy and good, Suguru had never been to a University, and it looked even more better than the movies!
"But there's something I don't understand"Haibara said suddenly causing Suguru to stop examining the place and the people turning to him with a questioning look.
"The semester started week ago, Why are late?"he asked curiously rising his brows as they walked into a long hallway.
"Oh, I had to make sure my grandpa and sisters were settled without me and I wasn't fully ready for traveling yet"He explained and Haibara nodded slowly.
"What about your parents?"he asked again not trying to hide his pure curiosity and Suguru didn't look bothered by that.
"Mother is dead, and I never saw my father in my life"simply Suguru said with a shrug and Haibara's eyes widened in horror.
"Shit! I didn't know that I'm truly sorry Suguru!"he apologized frantically looking pretty guilty as if he just stabbed him or something which caused Suguru to blink in surprise before he chuckled lightly.
"Oh it's okay, how would you know? we just met, besides it's not your fault, Mother died a peaceful death"he reassured him kindly causing Haibara's guilt to melt and be replaced with a confused face at how Suguru talks so casually about it.
But Suguru was right, His mother died in her sleep, without any sort of sickness or pain, she didn't even die from starvation, it was peaceful and calm, She just slept and never waked up again, Of course Suguru was sad, of course he misses his mother dearly every second in his life, But he couldn't just drown in his grief and ignore the rest of his family, his grandpa and sisters needed him, they relayed on him and he had to take the responsibility to the heart.
However,Haibara didn't judge because he didn't know anything about Suguru's life, and also because he was nice like that, Haibara never judged anyone.
They walked into the elevator and Haibara pressed on the third floor as Suguru eyed the buttons noticing that there is a seven floors in the building.
"We'll know where is your dorm to drop off your suitcase and then I'll take you to the cafeteria here and show you around here too,fortunately today's lecture was cancelled so we're free for now"Haibara informed him enthusiastically and Suguru nodded a long feeling eager to get out of his bubble and explore everything.
he's looking for a mind blowing experience.
Haibara perked up a little as they were out of the elevator in an almost empty floor "Oh, also I need to introduce you to the rest of my friends, they will like you a lot!"he stated loudly giving Suguru a wide grin, Suguru felt anxious again all of sudden as he pursed his lips together.
"You think so?"he asked seeming unsure and a little tense watching Haibara roll his eyes and chuckle.
"Don't be silly, there's no need to be nervous we'll make a good group, they're all nice and you'll like them so stop overthinking"Haibara scolded nicely smiling gently at the end of it just to make sure that Suguru would understand that there's no heat in his words and Suguru understood that nodding with hesitation visible on his face.
He still felt a little nervous but he'll be positive, His day is going more good than he ever planned.
Haibara stopped in front of an office and Suguru stopped too as he watched him knock two times before opening the door, they were met with a man that looks like he's in his mid-thirty's with his formal black suit and the small glasses he's wearing, the office is big not super big but for Suguru it looks like a big amount of space for just one person.
Suguru got to know that the man's name is Ijichi-san, by what he heard yuu calling him, he is actually nice and respectful, he welcomed Suguru to the university and gave him some advices to settle himself here, Suguru was grateful for how nice that guy was towards him despite the obvious formality he has.
when Ijichi looked for Suguru's papers he noticed how his professional manners deflated a little as his eyes widened for a bit before looking back at Suguru with a nervous smile.
"Getuo-kun, You are an omega right?"he asked calmly startling Suguru who's eyes widened and blinked at him with a confused face.
on the other hand Yuu had an offended expression on his face at that.
"Ijichi-san, why would you ask such a question? you know this is kinda rude to ask someone about his second gender"Yuu scolded with a deep frown crossing his arms to his chest while glaring at Ijichi who started to sweat in nervousness.
Suguru was genuinely confused that he didn't know what to say, he didn't expect that question.
The world is already past that decades ago.
The thing is that nobody cares anymore about if you're omega or alpha or beta, It started in 2008 , the human rights asked for freedom to all the omegas after an awful massacre have been done to a family of omegas by racist alphas, They killed the omegas mercilessy, raped them, humiliated them and then slaughtered them cruelly, even tha child couldn't run away from the monsters hands, it was a big horrible crime against the humanity that all of the omegas around the world made a rebellion, they all stepped out to face the world that they have had enough with the way they have been treated like nothing but a piece of meat to breed, they were humans and they had the right to live their lives like any beta or alpha, that's why the human rights took that as a cue to support them and after a lot of demonstrations and a lot of demands to stop the racism and live an equal lives like all the others, they finally won, the world finally admitted them as human beings with equal rights and equal levels, new laws were out, the omegas had the right to take any jobs, do whatever they want freely without someone wanting to order them around, omegas no more wore choker, they don't owe anything or any explanation to anybody, it became a lot easier for them than before, all of humans blended in together through the years that it didn't matter anymore if you were alpha, omega or beta, people stopped asking each other about their second gender, they stopped judging by it and looked at the human as just a human.
So it was really weird when someone asked that, that's why Suguru was confused and a little upset at Ijichi's question.
Ijichi shook his head frantically "No! you misunderstood me!, I just needed to make sure Getuo-kun would be comfortable at his dorm!"he explained hurriedly as Suguru frowned arching his brows.
"Why wouldn't I be comfortable?"he asked with suspension and Yuu nodded along in agreement.
Ijichi sighed rubbing his forehead looking troubled "What I'm trying to say that...you'll be a roommate with an alpha, so I just needed to make sure you'll be alright or you'd like me to transfer you to another dorm"
Suguru frowned even more after hearing that, is this guy thinking a little of him?! what the fuck?!
"Do you think that I'm incapable of defending myself?"he asked with a cold tone glaring at him daggers causing him to stand frozen for seconds with wide eyes.
Suguru was really pissed now, Why would he think that Suguru is weak, does he look like a weak helpless omega?!
Suguru never in his life hated anything more than being looked down at, he couldn't help the scowl forming on his face.
"Of course not, please don't put words on my mouth"Ijichi said with a firm tone and then he pursed his lips together into a thin line while the two students looked at him with a scowl.
"The thing is that alpha is a real troublesome student, he might give you a hard time"he announced quietly and Suguru hummed nodding his head as he relaxed a little.
"It's alright, I can handle him, if he tries anything I'll put him back into his place"Suguru said confidently with a small smile on his lips, Ijichi blinked once and then twice before exhaling deeply and nodding slowly as if trying to convince himself to let it go.
while Yuu had a big smile on his face at how confident and strong Suguru sounds.
Suguru wasn't week, his dear mother taught him how to defend himself since he was just a little pup, mother always told him to be strong, to fight, because no matter what happens, most of alphas will never change, they'll pretend that they're good, that they respect omegas, but deep down they still think that they own the world, that they're the strongest because...alphas will be alphas, so mother had to make sure her pup was strong, that he'll be able to defend himself and protect others when his help is needed, she was a strong omega female, she was beautiful, strong and brave, and had been determined to make her Suguru stronger than her to fight any asshole who got the guts to try hurting him, Suguru doesn't hate alphas, He doesn't hate anyone actually, his grandpa is an alpha and he's a good kind man who always respected others and never looked at their second gender, of course there's a lot of good alphas out there, but mother always told him that most of them are trash, dogs.
Suguru is willing to face anyone who would dare to treat him like shit or lay a finger on him, he'd put any dog into their place immediately.
"If you say so, but please don't hesitate to contact me if you needed anything"Ijichi said with a sigh realizing that there's no use in trying to make the new student to change his mind, still he's almost sure that he'll come to him immediately when he come to his senses and understand how unbearable his roommate is, no one has ever survived staying in the same dorm with him always asking for a transferring to any other dorm that is far enough from the alpha, Ijichi is sure that Suguru will come in less than two days to request the same thing.
Suguru in the other hand suppressed the urge to scoff and nodded politely taking his dorm key and two peppers of his schedule and the map of the university that he folded neatly and zipped it inside his backpack.
"Thank you"he bowed politely and then walked out of the office with Yuu in tail.
"Ugh that was awful! i can't believe he actually asked about your second gender it's really rude"Yuu scoffed the moment they were out walking in the hallway as a frown was plastered on his face.
Suguru hummed adjusting his backpack over his shoulders "It was a little awkward but it's fine maybe he's really seeking my comfort" he said with a shrug trying not to give it any more thoughts, he wanted to keep his day positive.
Yuu sighed loudly at that "You are very kind Suguru,"he said with a small smile and then his brows arched together as his face became more serious giving Suguru a bad feeling "but you can't finding excuses for others is not gonna work here, there's a lot of assholes around you'll eventually meet, so don't be always kind like this"he said that with a warning look at the end trying to get his newly friend to understand what he's trying to say, Suguru blinked slowly in the process before gulping down and nodding.
"It's okay, I can take care of myself"he assured him with a warm smile, Yuu smiled widely in return and Suguru kept his spirit high, there's no need to worry about crossing paths with bad people, there's a low chance that would happen to him in his first days anyway, and if it happens he'll handle it easily, other than that his day has been great so far.
He'll not let any negative thought to cross his mind, he's grateful for being able to be here, this his dream and he'll cling to it no matter what.
Yuu's phone started to ring while they were making their way to the dorms building, he huffed in annoyance after he was interrupted mid talking about the big park in the other side of the university.
Suguru smiled in amusement watching him take out his phone from his pocket to answer it.
Suguru observed the phone with curious eyes before taking out his own phone to examine it thoughtfully, Suguru never had a phone before, he relayed on their small old TV when he wanted to listen to the news or watch some movies whenever he got bored, but when he confronted his grandpa and sisters about his plans on traveling to Tokyo in order to study there, his sisters surprised him with a newly smartphone a few days before his plane trip, Suguru thought they stole it at first that he panicked over the small box with the phone inside of it.
"Oh my god calm the fuck down we didn't steal anyone!" Nanako snapped at him back then to shut him up mid lecturing them about the conclusions of stealing from people and how they could commit more dangerous crimes when they're growing ups which will lead them to the jail immediately and he cannot handle seeing his little sisters being prisoners!
Nanako managed to shut him up but opened another lecture for cursing which made Suguru scold her for her bad manners demanding her to fix her language.
Nanako rolled her eyes at him back then and let Mimiko take the lead this time.
"We earned it, it's okay we worked hard and bought it for you with our money"she clarified calmly offering Suguru a sweet smile.
Suguru was stunned when they explained to him that they have been working for six months , they worked after school as a tour guides for the foreigns tourists who came to their village since there was no tour guides in here, they hunted the lost people and offered them tours in the village and showed them the special places in there earning a good amount of money from different people who grew fond of the cute little twins and acted generous with them.
Suguru turned from shocked to angry and disappointed in no time, he couldn't believe that he wasn't aware of what his sisters were doing behind his back, he was so busy working hard and studying harder to notice the time they stayed late out of home.
he didn't want that, he didn't want his sisters to work at such a young age, they are just fourteen for the love of god!
he didn't want them to be like them and drawn in the exhausting jobs to manage to live! he wanted them to focus on their school only, to get a good grades and go to a great college so they would have a decent job in the future, he worked so hard in his summer vacation to save them a good amount of money that will help them living with no worries when he's gone until he starts his new job in Tokyo to send them money every month.
he didn't ask for them to do anything for him, he didn't need them to worry about him, he was the big brother here!
he was unbelievably upset that he stopped talking to them for a whole day, and that was hella a lot for Suguru!
the girls managed by the end of the day to warm him up again towards them, he stopped being upset the moment he saw Mimiko's sheepish smile and Nanako's playful pout, they made up and he accepted the smartphone after a lot of pleadings and naggings.
"You are going to be far away from us, I'm sure all of the students there will be hanging around with fancy phones and such, you're no less than them, that's why you have to the phone"Nanako affirmed firmly with a serious face pushing the phone to his chest, Mimiko nodded along in agreement.
"Besides we will miss you badly, we'll need to talk to you, that's why we bought another second handed phone me and Nanako will share it together to talk to you every while so we won't miss each other that bad"Mimiko said with an optimistic smile reassuring him as Nanako waved the other phone in the air at him just to prove their point.
Suguru felt silly when his eyes teared up feeling his heart clenching as he took both of his precious sisters into a big hug that they returned it immediately clutching him like a life line.
"I'll miss you too, so much"he sniffled closing his eyes to hold back his annoying tears, voice wavering with emotions as they hugged tightly.
that night they stayed up late observing the new two phones and discovering all of the applications, they had a lot of fun taking pictures with the stupid filters on Snapchat, and Suguru thought to himself, maybe it wasn't that bad, he'll manage to reach out to his sisters and grandpa at every chance.
Suguru snapped out of his thoughts by Yuu's voice.
"Fine I'll be there"he said with a sigh before hanging up and looking at Suguru with a sheepish smile.
"I'm sorry Suguru, I can't walk with you to the dorm, my friend is in a trouble and needs me"Yuu rubbed his neck nervously while Suguru blinked in surprise.
"But I'll still wait for you the cafeteria, you can come by yourself right?"he added hurriedly with his brows rised, Suguru nodded reassuringly.
"It's okay, I have the university map so I'll go leave my things there and meet you in the cafeteria"Suguru said, an easy smile on his face that made Yuu relax exhaling deeply.
"Okay so I'll see you in like ten minutes, I'll introduce you to my friend, I'm so excited!"he announced joyfully patting Suguru on the shoulder literally beaming in the process, Suguru chuckled at his enthusiasm and hummed softly.
"Me too, see you in ten minutes then"
both of them walked in a separated ways, Suguru to the dorms and Yuu to meet his friends at the cafeteria.
Suguru didn't take a long time until he was in the dorms building taking the small elevator to the fifth floor.
he walked out of it then and walked through the long hallway, there was a lot of doors, it was no surprise because of how big the university is, but it was still impressive to Suguru, he walked in a slow pace taking everything in with his yellowish brown eyes, the hallway looks neat and clean, all the doors are colored silver with a number on it.
Suguru's dorm number was 110 so when he stopped in front of it he smiled feeling a bubble of excitement inside of him.
he took his key and slid it into the lock to open the door with a small tic, he pushed the door slowly to be met with the dark big room.
frowning deeply he stepped inside closing the door with a short click, he turned on the light and rised his eyebrows at the mess in the room.
The room is really big, two beds with two nightstands, two closets and two tables with a comfortable chair to each one to study on it, there's also a small couch and big glassy window.
Suguru walked in and opened the door at the end of the room to find out that it's a bathroom, he pursed his lips and closed it, then he walked to the other side of the room opening the other door to find a kitchenette, there's a kettle, and small sink, a small stove and microwave, there's a mini fridge and some bowls and cups.
Suguru's eyes landed on a few empty bottles inside of the small sink.
he arched a brow reaching out to hold up one of them, he held it closer to his nose taking a small sniff.
Suguru put it away immediately wrinkling his nose in disgust feeling a big urge to gag at the gross scent.
what the fuck! is it even allowed to drink alcohol in the campus?!!
or his roommate is just a reckless dumbass?!
he sighed to himself getting out of the kitchenette to put down his things , he looked at the two beds with narrowed eyes, there's an empty bed while on the other bed there's a huge ball of clothes that most of them is black or gray!
he looked up and noticed few posters of a rock band on the wall, what the hell with that dark vibes in the room?! it's like the grim reaper is living here!!
Suguru considered cleaning the messy bed with the clothes on it but he backtracked, he didn't want to disturb his roommate's personal space.
Suguru sighed again and dragged himself to the clean bed, he tossed his backpack over it and sat on it smiling at how comfortable it feels, well at least he's not going to sleep in the hard futon back home again!
but his sisters and grandpa will.
suddenly his excitement dies down by his guilt feeling bad for living in a better place than the place his loved ones are living in, he wish he could have took them with him, if only he could afford it.
he swallowed his guilt down and stood up to go to the bathroom, he washed his face with cold water and untied his long hair to comb it easily with his fingers before tieing it again into a bun, leaving his long bang to fall by his left eye.
Suguru always thought of cutting his hair, but his mother thought the opposite of that, she always told him that his hair was beautiful, that it suits him perfectly, and she liked that they both shared it, her hair was just like his, when he was a child they used to braid each other's hair.
when she died, Suguru decided he'll never cut it, maybe just a little bit of it every once in a while, but not entirely.
he breath in deeply and then let it out looking at his reflection for a few seconds before he gets out, he takes the folded map and his key before getting out of the dorm.
he hummed to himself observing the map intently, it wasn't easy to walk around the huge campus, the place is pretty big!
but Suguru found it easy to memorize every place he went by, it wasn't a hard task.
so it took him five minutes to get out of the dorms building, and five other minutes to reach to the big cafeteria that was crowded with a lot of people.
he was relieved to finally arrive without getting lost.
