Chapter Text

The life of omegas in a society based on alpha supremacy had never been easy and for male ones in particular. There were those who considered them freaks, failure or good only for sex given the low birth or pregnancy survival rate.

In such a world, Chuuya Nakahara, twenty-six years old and a male omega, had had to grow his balls to afford a more than dignified life. However, every sacrifice he made had been well rewarded: he was one of the few omegas in his sector and one of the most sought-after real estate agents in Yokohama. This allowed him an income just above average - because despite his skill he would never have been paid like a beta or an alpha - with which he had bought an apartment to live with his daughter.

Yes, because although Chuuya lacked a mating bite and a ring on his finger - he had lost that a few years earlier - he shared his everyday life with a little hyperactive seven-year-old monster called Umeko.

Same little thing that had just rushed through the front door with quick steps and the straps of her yellow backpack in her fists. Chuuya stopped chopping the vegetables, turning so he could greet her and pick her up as soon as she was close enough to be grabbed.

Small arms encircled his neck while a cold nose pressed where the scent glands were positioned. The contact and the mix of their scents made the omega's body melt and his mind relax after days of agitation. He had just gone through his heat week and, as a matter of convenience, he had agreed with Umeko's father that she would've be away from him during those times. After all, he couldn't take care of her without routinely taking suppressants, at the risk of endangering his own health.

Those days of distance from his daughter and from her scent were torture for his omega who, however crazy he was, wanted her close to take care of her. Chuuya was sure that that need was so strong because of the lack of a heat partner , but between work and Umeko he didn't even have time to think about a possible date.

"I missed you." It was her voice that brought him back to reality, muffled by the way she buried her face in his neck. Warmth bloomed in the omega's chest as he gently stroked her head, running fingers through the soft brown hair.

"I missed you, too. How did it go with dad this week? Did you have fun?" He asked and Umeko raised her head so she could nod vigorously.

"Very very much! Yesterday we also went to the Luna park and I tried the big ride. Dad said I officially became a woman yesterday.” Chuuya laughed, shaking his head in amusement. It was typical of Dazai to do or say things like that without irony.

Dazai Osamu. He was an alpha, a few months younger than Chuuya, that he had met in high school and fallen madly in love with. A young and sincere love that unfortunately had been cultivated too hastily, breaking a few years later.

Chuuya had loved Dazai like no one ever and knew that Dazai had done the same, but after Umeko's birth and the wedding things had started to fall apart, leading them to divorce. Despite this there was a good relationship between them and they respected each other, yet something inside the omega led him to want to see him as few as possible.

"Really? You're really big now. You won't need bear pancakes in the morning anymore then.” Chuuya laughed, immediately getting his response from his daughter's terrified look.

"No no! I'm still little! Daddy was wrong!” She said, wrapping her arms tighter around her father's neck and trailing kisses across his face to seem more convincing. Chuuya laughed heartily at the cuteness, then leaving her on the ground so he could continue cooking.

“You'll always be a baby to me darling, don't worry. How was school today anyway?” He asked while putting the vegetables on the stove and took a look at the rice finishing cooking. Just a little more and they would finally be able to eat.

Umeko seemed to brighten at the question, starting to rummage through the books in her backpack until she pulled out a slightly crumpled sheet of paper. “They gave us this. Read read!”

Surprised by her enthusiasm Chuuya turned around, picking up the paper to read. He expected a trip or another play – Umeko loved them – but all his hopes were dashed as soon as he read in large letters “Family day!” and below the various information on activities and times.

Not that he didn't want to go to school with his daughter of course, but work took up most of his time and his heat permit would've be over in just three days. He knew he could count on Dazai to bring her, as his career as a writer it allowed him a lot of free time and the hours he preferred, but he didn't want to miss a school initiative again.

Because as much as Chuuya loved his work and it brought him benefits, he had also taken so much out of his life. His marriage had ended because he was never at home with Dazai and Umeko and on top of that it made him missing most of his daughter's childhood.

Chuuya could already hear the voices of the other omegas, mothers of Umeko's classmates.

“An omega who doesn't take an interest in his daughter's school activities. What a shame."
“She clearly doesn't love his puppy like a real mother.”
“Poor alpha, forced to stay here while his mother is who knows where. I'm not surprised he left him.”

A surge of anger rose in him at the mere idea, almost making him shrink the paper into a ball. However, he forced himself to calm down and look at Umeko who kept her gaze fixed on him enthusiastic. The joy faded from her face at his father's expression and the touch of acidity in his perfume.

“If you can't I'll go with dad. It's not a problem." She muttered with a low gaze, kicking the air and tightening the hems of the skirt she was wearing. Chuuya immediately knelt down to her height, taking her hands.

“No, baby. I'll take the day off, I promise. I'll come with you and we'll have a lot of fun together.” He said, thus making Umeko look up. A hand left his, showing the little finger.

“Pinky promise?” She asked in such a cute voice that Chuuya couldn't help but seal that promise, then giving her a kiss on the nose.

“Promise. Now go wash your hands before we eat.” He got up from the floor, turning back to the stove. Umeko however didn't listen to him as he was immediately grabbed by his trousers looking for attention. Chuuya held back a sight at the constant interruptions, turning again. “Yeah, baby?”

“Can daddy come with us too? It's not family day without dad.” She muttered and Chuuya's heart sank into his chest. The idea of having to see Dazai again for more than the usual ten minutes of him taking Umeko's thing before Chuuya's heat was terrifying, but he knew he couldn't say no to Umeko on something like that. It wasn't right and his daughter would've hate him if he ever did that, so he had to steel himself and nod.

“I'll call him after lunch and see if it's okay with him. Now go wash your hands.” With a scream of joy she hurried to listen, running down the hall and out of Chuuya's sight as he sighed in defeat.

It took a few minutes and they were both sitting at the table, eating their food while cartoons on the TV filled the silence. Umeko ate with gusto, taking large forkfuls while Chuuya looked at his food with a sick feeling in the stomach, moving it around with his chopsticks without actually eating it.

“Daddy, are you okay?” Again Umeko's worried voice woke him from his thoughts, making him look up at her. He smiled and nodded, standing up with the still full plate in his hand.

“Yes, love, don't worry. You know that dad is often not hungry after the heat. I'll eat it this evening or later if I get hungry.” He said and he wasn't lying, not entirely at least. The effects of the heat were still present even though it was over and the small amounts of food he had ingested during the week – just at the moments when he was lucid enough to get up and prepare something quick – had made him lose his appetite completely.

“You keep eating. I'll go call dad in the meantime." He said and, after stroking her hair, he left the kitchen to go into the hallway where the sound of the TV wasn't too loud. He leaned against the wall and remained with his gaze fixed on Dazai's contact for a few seconds before clicking, bracing himself.

There were a couple of rings and Chuuya almost hoped that he was too busy to answer, but that wasn't the case because on the third one Dazai's voice was the only thing he could hear.

“Chuuya?” Dazai's voice was warm and the way he simply said his name made the omega's insides melt against his will. Chuuya had to convinced himself it was just the heat before speaking.

“Hey. Are you busy by any chance?” He asked, drumming his fingers against the wall behind him.

“No, not at all. What is it? Is Umeko okay?” His tone held a clear sign of concern, but Chuuya quickly denied it, not wanting him to worry for nothing.

“No, she's fine.” He smiled, then spoke again. “There is the family day at school on Saturday. She just showed me the teachers' notice."

“Oh,” Dazai sighed. Even without seeing him Chuuya could tell the man was relieved after thinking the worst. "Alright. Do you need me to bring her?”

And Chuuya knew that Dazai wasn't saying it out of malice. He knew that the question that came out so naturally was only the result of the dozens of times that Chuuya had not been able to participate in his daughter's activities, but the feeling of nausea seemed to get worse.

“No no, I can take her. She wants us both there though. I wanted to ask you if you were free and if it was okay with you.” He replied, starting to move down the hallway and also noticing Umeko's presence hiding around the corner to eavesdrop.

“Of course that's fine with me. It will be nice to spend some time together after a long time.” Chuuya could tell that a genuine smile graced the man's lips. This made him want to quickly end the call as he felt his heart racing.

"Perfect! I'll send you the photo of the notice then. See ya.” He said before putting it down, leaning against the wall as he felt his insides move and his chest tighten. He sighed and stood upright again, heading towards the kitchen without missing Umeko's quick steps as she tried not to get caught.

The days after the call passed quickly. Chuuya had immediately asked for a day leave for Saturday and even if reluctantly his boss had agreed, allowing him to take the whole day for himself. Umeko shouted excitedly at the news and Dazai seemed happy too, sending a silly sticker into their chat.

So Saturday morning arrived and it was probably the first and only time – except during the holidays – that Umeko woke up alone, quickly getting ready to go to school. Chuuya laughed amused, seeing his daughter already ready and with the backpack on her shoulders, while he finished preparing his famous pancakes and packed lunches for the day. After all, what could a six-year-old girl want more than to spend the day with her parents after a long time and then go to her grandparents for the weekend?

“Someone is excited. It's early, love. I still have to get dressed.” Chuuya smiled at her pout, inviting her to sit while he placed the plate and glass of warm milk on the table. And while she was eating, the man took the opportunity to go and change, unsure of what to wear. The notice recommended comfortable, sporty clothing given the afternoon's outdoor activities, but the omega inside him wanted to be pretty. Chuuya still didn't understand if it was to be seen by the other omegas or because Dazai was there, but in any case he wouldn't listen to him.

He grabbed a pair of palazzo pants – cute, but practical – and a black turtleneck that gently hugged his curves. Over it he placed a white shirt with golden details left slightly unbuttoned. However, he decided to bring a change of clothes just to be safe, putting a t-shirt and a pair of sweatpants in his backpack. A quick hair fix and Umeko was already at the end of the corridor, asking him to hurry to not keep Dazai waiting.

“I'm coming, dove. Did you put the dishes in the sink?” Umeko nodded as she sat down on the door step to put on her shoes. “And you took everything? We can't go back if you forgot something.”

She nodded again and Chuuya did the same, putting on his shoes as well before taking the car keys and leaving the house. Once he made sure they had everything they needed and that Umeko was buckled up, he set off towards school.

The distance from home to school wasn't far – about 10 minutes without traffic – so they arrived well in advance. Chuuya expected to have to wait for Dazai for at least another twenty minutes, but to his surprise the man was already there. He was leaning against a wall, taking long drags of his cigarette as he looked around, but quickly putting it out when he recognized the car.
As soon as they stopped Umeko immediately opened the door and ran towards him, jumping into his arms. Dazai, who had bent down to pick her up. stood upright and spun her around with a big smile on his face.

Chuuya watched them from afar while he grabbed the various bags - even the backpack that Umeko had forgotten in the back seats - coming closer after a few minutes.

"Give it to me. I help you." Dazai said, walking over as he saw Chuuya struggling to carry everything. He placed Umeko on the ground, holding her hand and offering the free one to Chuuya as an offer of help. The omega looked up at him and then passed the backpack and lunch bag, thanking him.

"We are early. You think they'll let us in already?” He muttered, looking towards the front door and taking Umeko's hand as well. Meanwhile, the little girl looked at them from below with an excited look, passing her gaze between both of her fathers.

Dazai laughed. “It's clear that you're not used to these things, Chuuya. Get ready for your first real parental war.” He turned to look at him, trying not to laugh even more at the confused and shocked expression on his ex-husband's face.

"Let's go. Let's start going to class." He continued, then began walking towards the school entrance. It was one of the best in the city and it was that detail that convinced Chuuya to buy the house he owned, as well as its proximity to the middle school where Umeko would've go in the future. The outdoor space was large and surrounded the entire building with many games at the entrance and an athletics track and other sports routes at the back. Inside it was divided into two floors - Umeko's class was fortunately on the ground floor - and had colorful walls full of drawings and projects from its students.

Both Chuuya and Dazai shared a good opinion of the school, especially loving how their daughter loved going there.

As soon as they set foot in the classroom Chuuya was surprised to see already more than half of the students present and their parents all against the wall at the back talking to each other. It didn't seem to escape to Dazai who invited him to follow him while Umeko ran to her classmates to greet them.

"Dazai-san! How nice to see you!" A woman exclaimed, breaking away from a group of other mothers. Chuuya looked at her from behind Dazai, immediately noticing how she was an omega. Her rose scent was strong despite the blockers clearly visible from the collar of the pink blouse.

He was about to greet her and introduce himself, but she preceded him, holding Dazai in a tight hug. For a second Chuuya's brain froze, clearly remembering the revulsion Dazai had towards physical contact.

He didn't expect him to push her away abruptly, but he also certainly didn't expect to see his ex-husband hug her back either. That only lasted a few seconds before the man pulled away, turning to introduce the two omegas.

"Fumiyo, I would like you to meet Chuuya. He is Umeko's father." He smiled. "Chuuya, this is Fumiyo. Kai's mother."

Still shocked by the scene he had just seen, Chuuya did his best to appear friendly, but Fumiyo didn't seem to do the same as she simply looked at him from head to toe, then showing off the fakest smile Chuuya had ever received.

"Oh, how nice to finally meet you. We were all starting to think that Umeko didn't have a mother." She laughed, touching Dazai's arm. Chuuya had to suppress an annoyance glance, chuckling as well.

Not because of the blatant way that woman was hitting on his ex-husband right in front of him—after all, Dazai was free to make a life for himself after their marriage—but because of what she said. Since the first months of pregnancy people had started calling Chuuya feminine and he had always hated it, because he wasn't Umeko's mother. Umeko didn't have a mother, but rather two fathers and being called a mom just because he was an omega made him seethe.

However, he forced himself to digest that bitter pill and respond to Fumiyo with a smile. "It's a pleasure for me to meet you too, Fumiyo. Unfortunately, work takes up a lot of my time, but Osamu is so sweet to help me. I'm sure you can understand me."

And it may have let some of the childish side of his character out as he took Dazai's arm, pulling him closer.

"Of course, but it's important for our puppies to have their mothers always present. The father's salary should be enough for the family." She dug her tongue into her cheek, annoyed. "Let's do this! If you give me your number I'll put you in the mothers' group so we can keep in touch!"

Chuuya's grip on Dazai's arm tightened without his consent, but before he could respond the alpha took care of it.

"It's nice of you to worry about Umeko, but I like coming to these meetings. If Chuuya stole these moments from me I would die of boredom at home. And above all I believe that even alphas should actively interact in their children's school life." He said with a smile, not moving away from Chuuya despite the obvious discomfort in his grip. Noticing it the omega blushed, quickly pulling away.

Fumiyo didn't seem to notice the change too busy looking at Dazai, taking a step closer.

"Oh, if there were more alphas like you. Chuuya you let slip a rarity." She laughed and then turned to the group from earlier who were calling out to her. She quickly hid an annoyed expression—which Chuuya didn't fail to see—as she looked back at the couple.

"My friends are looking for me, but it was nice talking to you. I hope to see you more often, Chuuya-kun!" She kept that fake smile until she turned to leave.

Chuuya sighed, hugging his waist unconsciously. He didn't want to admit it, but the woman's words and gestures had struck him and even more the idea of her going out to gossip with the others. A feeling of shame fell on Chuuya, causing him to sink into the floor.

Dazai seemed to notice as he grabbed his wrist, leading him towards the classroom door and out into the empty hallway.

"Are you okay?" He asked in such a gentle tone of voice that Chuuya almost cried. The ghost of the memory of the same alpha lifting his chin years ago every time he asked him the same question was printed in Chuuya's mind. Now nothing was rising his face as Dazai simply stared down at him.

"Yeah, I'm fine. You know I don't care what people say about me." He sighed, leaning against the wall. He avoided his eyes anyway.

“But you care about how these rumors about you affect Umeko's life.” Those words were like a slap in the face and Chuuya looked up, burning.

"Of course. I don't want those witches putting strange thoughts in their children's heads and then them make fun of Umeko or excluding her." He exclaimed probably too loudly, lowering it immediately afterwards. “What a shitty father I would be if I let something like that happen.”

Dazai sighed and stood next to Chuuya with his back to the wall while he looked at the opposite one full of drawings. "If that ever happens I will rip out the jugular of whoever started the rumors. Omega or not."

He chuckled and Chuuya did the same, rolling his eyes. "That Fumiyo too? You two seem pretty close, you know?"

"She's just a friend. Her husband died last year and I helped her with Kai. You know... I kept him at home to play with Umeko or pass homework if he was missing classes. Things like that. " He shrugs, looking at Chuuya. "Why? Are you jealous?"

The omega wrinkled his nose and elbowed him in the hip before pushing away from the wall to walk back to class. "As if."

He could feel the man smile behind him, but decided to ignore it when the teacher entered the classroom a few seconds after them. They both stood at the back with the other parents, waiting for her to speak.

She was a young woman, clearly a beta, with dark brown hair tied in a bun and wearing a colorful apron. Definitely suitable for the painting activities they would do during the morning.

"Good morning children and good morning to you parents too. As you all know today is family day so no lessons. Are you happy kids?" She asked with a big and genuine smile, earning screams of joy. “Of course we also thank the moms and dads for joining us.”

Chuuya swore he saw her look towards them and his heart ached at the use of the plural, seeing as him and Dazai were the only males among the parents. He already liked that teacher.

"Alright. I'll explain the program for today one more time and then we can all move to the art room to really have fun!"

The next few minutes passed quite quickly. The woman had carefully explained the program, trying to make it playful to keep the children's attention, and then she had allowed them to get up and go to their parents.

Umeko immediately ran to them, holding out both hands for them to take as before. Dazai and Chuuya obliged her more than willingly, walking hand in hand with her and following the rest of the group.

The painting activities last longer than Chuuya had initially expected, leading to the creation of colorful canvases and other creations.

Chuuya's favorite part so far was decorating the cups. According to the teacher, each student had prepared one the week before so they could decorate it with their parents.

Umeko's one was tiny and heart-shaped. It was delivered into Chuuya's hands by herself, leaving him the task of painting it. And it was an easy choice to start carefully drawing many small teddy bears on top of a first layer of light blue paint.

When he showed it to Umeko and Dazai she clapped her hands happily while the alpha simply shook his head in amusement, stopping her from grabbing it to not ruin it. While Chuuya got up to put the cup out to dry with the others he swore he could feel eyes following him.

However, he decided to ignore it and go back to sitting next to his daughter, holding her close and burying his nose in her hair. He remained in that bubble of peace for a few seconds until the teacher announced the last activity before lunch.

"Okay, kids. For this we need to sit on the floor. Everyone come get a canvas and sit with your parents." She said, then turning to pick up several blank canvases.

And while Umeko got in line with her classmates Dazai and Chuuya found an empty seat, sitting together. Unluckily, Fumiyo had to stand next to them and start to talk to the alpha while they waited for their children to return.

If only your son wasn't friends with my little girl. He thought, then shaking his head. After all, he had no reason to hate her, even if inside his omega did and not silently.

A sour smell began to escape from his glands, but Umeko's return managed to calm him down before anyone could notice the change. Dazai also stopped chatting to pay attention to his daughter and the teacher who was speaking.

"Alright! For this last painting, you kids will decide what to draw and then you'll have to present the creation to the whole class. Good work!"

Once she finished listening Umeko seemed to think for a few seconds while she stared at the blank canvas, then quickly stood up to go get colors and brushes. Both Chuuya and Dazai looked at each other, searching for confirmation in the other's eyes, but without results.

"Daddies!" She exclaimed once she was back, excited. “Can you paint your hands, please?”

They looked at her for a moment surprised by the request, but then Dazai nodded. "Sure. Do you want a particular color?"

The answer didn't take long to arrive. "Red and Blue!" She said, handing the tubes to Chuuya and Dazai with a brush each.

The process was done in silence by both of them, until they found themselves with colored hands and waiting for instructions from Umeko. She simply told to place them on the top of the canvas, but leave a white space in the middle.

Once done she was quick to turn it over and start drawing, keeping every detail hidden from the couple. Even more shocked both Dazai and Chuuya looked at each other, until the alpha stood up.

"I'm going to wash my hands. I'll be right back." He said and soon Chuuya and Umeko were alone. She was looking at the canvas dedicated to her work and he was simply sitting cross-legged on the floor with his palms up to avoid staining his clothes.

He took advantage of the free time to look around, noticing how each child was engrossed in their works. Some helped by their parents and some like Umeko who worked alone and in secret. Beside them Kai was also painting alone while Fumiyo was too busy looking at her phone.

Dazai's return allowed Chuuya to move and leave the classroom, looking for the bathroom. Luckily it didn't take him long to find it, but having to get the red paint off his hands was more difficult. And while he was with his back facing the door he could hear a group of other omegas coming in, but he decided not to pay any attention to it since they were probably just parents of other children.

But he couldn't ignore the way a hand ran down his back, causing a streak of green paint that the omega couldn't see.

When he turned around, he found some of the mothers from Umeko's class giggling among themselves. One of them even had the courage to greet him, showing the offending hand palms and it didn't take Chuuya long to connect.

Looking in the mirror he could immediately see the result of the prank on his shirt, making him growl. The laughs didn't stop, immediately leading him to take a step towards the group.

"What the fuck is your problem?!" He hissed as an acrid smell filled the bathroom. The smirk on the woman's face didn't help the situation.

"What? You seemed to enjoy doing it with your family before and then I added some color. The green looks really good on you." She smiles and Chuuya had to clench his fists to keep himself from jumping at her throat. With an huge effort he forced himself to leave the bathroom quickly, ignoring them and heading back to class.

Before entering however, while he had his hand on the doorknob, he could hear Umeko speaking inside. Opening the door a crack he saw her standing next to the teacher as she showed off her drawing. She was speaking, but her eyes only looked at Dazai and the rest of the room looking for Chuuya.

And if that wasn't enough to tug at Chuuya's heart, Umeko's drawing did. Their hands were in a row with Umeko's small purple ones in the middle and underneath was drawn a big red house and the three of them.

"And here is also the dog that I'd really like to have, but dad is afraid of them and so I can't have him. But he promised me that he will get me an hamster if I do well at school!" She exclaimed and everyone cheered while Chuuya was closing the doors in front of him. His hands itched and his eyes stung with the need to cry, causing him to walk to the exit in long strides.

His body seemed to move on autopilot, until he found himself in front of the institute's open gates. His car parked in the distance was a delightful lure, but he couldn't do it. He wouldn't abandon his daughter in the middle of their day.

Needing to calm down he took a cigarette from the pack in his pocket and lit it, taking a long drag to start. The release of nicotine into his system made him relax as he leaned against the wall and he enjoyed the warmth of the sun's rays on his face.

"I knew I'd find you here." Dazai's voice suddenly beside him made him jump. He was about to throw the cigarette on the ground, but was stopped by the alpha's hand on his wrist. "Smoke, Chuuya. It's fine."

"How did you know I would've be here? Where is Umeko?!" Panic began to build when he didn't see her next to him or nearby, but Dazai promptly stopped him again.

"She's inside with the teacher, don't worry." He said, also taking a cigarette from his pack and lighting it. "And I knew I'd find you here because you weren't in the bathroom and when you need a break you have to smoke. It always have been that way."

He chuckled, then taking the first drag and creating a cloud of smoke in the air upon release. His gaze, which had remained on the omega the entire time, then focused on the green spot on his back.

"Chuuya-...what happened?" He asked. A trace of blood characterized the normal coffee scent that the man exuded.

"So...an hamster uh? Umeko never even told me she wanted a dog and I love dogs." The omega chuckled bitterly, but was grabbed by the shoulders and forced to turn around.

"Chuuya-" Dazai tried again, but was quickly pushed away by the omega who took a step back. A frown on his face at the sudden touch.

"Don't. It was nothing, Dazai. Really. Just a bunch of gossipy moms." He said and knew it was true. It wasn't them and their childish gesture that broke him, but the fact of not being able to enter the classroom to support Umeko during the presentation. Because he knew that by entering and seeing Fumiyo he would officially lose control.

"You shouldn't let them get away with it, Chuuya. They have no right to treat you like this!" The alpha exclaimed and Chuuya smiled. He had always loved that side that Dazai rarely let out. The way the alpha was always ready to defend the omega's pride even when Chuuya couldn't. He loved it, but he wouldn't let him do it this time.

"I know, but it's really okay. I just want to remove this shirt and go eat with you and Umeko. Let's not let them ruin our day together after so long." Putting out the cigarette, he took the man's hands. The contact gave him an electric shock, making him want to get even closer.

Dazai looked at him for a few seconds – searching in his eyes for a hint of hesitation that he didn't find – and sighed, tightening the grip gently.

"Alright. Let's go get you a change." A hand moved behind the omega's back, inviting him to walk towards the entrance. Right on the spot where the fresh stain was, without fear of getting dirty because of it.

Chuuya stopped at the thought, turning to look at him with a smile. And, oh, Dazai knew that smile too well.

"What are you thinking about?" He raised an eyebrow in amusement before Chuuya grabbed his wrist, walking back towards the now empty art room. What remained of the hours of activity was on the teacher's desk and among them there was also the can of paint that Chuuya was looking for.

It didn't take long for Dazai to connect the dots, shaking his head in disbelief. After all, it was a perfectly Chuuya thing to do.

"May I style your outfit, kind sir?" He asked, smiling while he was painting his hands green. Dazai laughed and then walked over, opening his arms to give the omega the green light.

With that the omega's hands were immediately on him, touching him everywhere. Green fingerprints stained the black sweatshirt on his chest, hips, back and even his neck, dirtying more skin than fabric.

Chuuya wasn't the only one who could have fun though. Dazai also decided to get his hands dirty, starting to add fingerprints on the omega's shirt. The marks on his waist were more pronounced when Dazai grabbed them, pulling him closer.

Their laughter mixed together and so did their scents, leading Chuuya to rest his head on the man's chest for a few seconds.

"We should go now. Umeko must be waiting for us." He whispered, breaking the comfortable silence. Taking a step away, Dazai's hands left his waist as he nodded.

The walk to the cafeteria was silent as they walked side by side. They had stopped just to wash up and grab lunch from the backpack in class.

"Daddies!" Umeko exclaimed as she sat next to the teacher, then running to them and hugging Chuuya. "Where were you?! You're all colorful!"

The pout made them both laugh while Chuuya apologized with a caress on the little girl's scent gland.

"A glow-in-the-dark monster attacked us while we were in the bathroom. We had to knock it down to keep it from coming for you." Dazai laughed, pinching her nose as he grabbed her armpits to lift her up.

"The monster attacked you a lot." She muttered while looking at Chuuya behind them with a smirk. The omega simply winked before sitting down and grabbing the bentos from the backpack.

He had prepared more or less the same for everyone, but changed some parts to follow their personal tastes. Both him and Umeko had salmon onigiri, while Dazai had them with crab, remembering the alpha's love for that dish.

In fact Dazai seemed to notice, looking towards Chuuya after the first bite with a look that Chuuya couldn't understand. Or rather he insisted not to because those eyes were full of affection.

As a side dish, then, he had opted for carrots cut brunoise style and sautéed in a pan and sausages cut into the shape of an octopus. Needless to say, Umeko's focus immediately went to them.

"I missed Chuuya's cooking. Umeko, I'm almost jealous that you get to taste it more often than me!" Dazai pouted as he bit into one of the baby octopus, making the omega roll his eyes.

"Dad's cooking is the best! But don't learn or you'll stop to always get takeaways." Umeko also pouted, not knowing that she had just given Dazai a scolding.

"Dazai!" Chuuya exclaimed, shocked. “You can't just eat junk food, you idiot.”

He shook his head, rolling his eyes when the alpha offered him a mocking smile. It had always been like this for them - Dazai neglecting his own health and Chuuya promptly worrying, taking care of him.

Sometimes Chuuya wondered how all that could have gone out on any given day six years ago. The thought tightened his stomach, making him swallow a suddenly sour strawberry.

Notes:

Hello everyone! So there is the first chapter of this Soukoku short fic. The second one is already ready, but you'll have to wait a little to read it.
Anyway I was supposed to post it on valentines day, but too many things happened and I really couldn't.
