Strange attitude

Summary:

If Boris had been asked to give his opinion about the Cupbros at the beginning of the search he would have told you that they were terrifying, violent, dangerous and probably had no hearts.

If you ask him right now he will answer that they are terrifying, violent, dangerous, empathetic and funny...but if you ask him what he thinks of them separately...things get a little difficult to explain.

Or in which Boris reflects on the strange attitude of the cupbros

Work Text:

If Boris had been asked to give his opinion about the Cupbros at the beginning of the search he would have told you that they were terrifying, violent, dangerous and probably had no hearts.

If you ask him right now he will answer that they are terrifying, violent, dangerous, empathetic and funny...but if you ask him what he thinks of them separately...things get a little difficult to explain.
Now,don't get him wrong,he really doesn't have much right to say what is normal or not between siblings when he has a demon as a big brother, but even if their behavior may be strange to some people, the behavior those two have is completely confusing.

As if they will change their personality in front of others when "doing their job". They showed this mocking and happily violent personality (mostly on Cuphead's part) when they were noticed in the warehouse but Bendy had told him that not long before Mugman was talking about how he had hurt a man while Cup just seemed worried.

Then there was the New Orleans thing, where Cuphead had been hexed and Mugs had been left alone.... he was practically in two personalities at the same time which made the whole situation and their opinion of him too confusing.

When Mugs talked about the voodoo queen he was trembling with anger, when he talked about why they were doing this (which was not very informative) change to sad, tired and miserable, when they made a temporary truce (mostly so it wouldn’t happen to them to attack any of their friends again) change to cheerful and compassionate.

A sea of personality that would turn into a tsunami when they fought the queen. Boris took great care of the delicate piece of porcelain in his hands, because that delicate little thing was Cuphead.
When they finally got the piece and Cuphead was back to normal, it took him just two minutes to go and run to see if Mugs was okay,as if his brother was the one who become something dangerously small and not him.

At the time Boris couldn’t help but feel happy for the guys who hadn’t long ago tried to kill them, cursed himself and his weak heart when the relatively quiet environment died when Mugman informed his brother of the truce they had made and as apparently now they had the advantage of running for 5 minutes before the two madmen returned to chase them as cat and mouse.

.......

And then came the "accident".
At the time he wasn’t really thinking clearly, he could only smell the blood coming from the youngest of the Cupbros.

Bendy and he had a fight shortly after the boy’s vague attempt to help the ceramic man who seemed on the verge of a nervous breakdown.

Tell him stupid and all you want but after seeing the guy who thought he didn’t have a heart fall into a big nerve management for his brother bleeding out after shot him was like taking a blow of guilt. Yeah, even though he knows perfectly well that shot could have given him and Bendy a good burn and a nice visit to the hospital that they probably couldn’t afford.

But even after all this things turned out strangely well. They didn’t immediately trust when they suggested joining the search, of course, they had tried to kill them not long before, but Mugman helped Bendy with his ink attack and Cuphead saved him from the guy with a knife dangerously close to him...It was disconcerting that strange coincidence of staying in the same hotel... But thanks to that he discovered that Cup was surprisingly easy to sadden when it comes to Mugman!

......

It would have been a little funny to find out if he hadn’t found out when he tried to act tough in front of him by rejating his offer to become friends with Mugman. The attitude was dismissed when the man in front of him seemed on the verge of tears.

He panicked when the ceramic man began to lament about how 'everyone always seems to want to get away from his poor little brother'. So after a couple of promises to befriend him and Mugman he had a relative lull from the cupbros. (Happily he’s going to forget about Bendy and his dumb joke about being his girl)

.....

He missed his relative moment of calm when he discovered that unlike ordinary brothers in which the older brother is incredibly intimidating did not agree with the cupbros.

Not when he said good morning to a Mugman who greeted him with a hug that threatened to break his bones while Cuphead looked at him from behind with a hopeful smile, the ones Boris had witnessed with parents watching their son make his first friend. That look made him forget for a minute the arms around him that kept threatening his bones that fortunately managed to be rescued thanks to his brother.

However, Mugs really was nice when he spent more time with him! He even made light jokes with Bendy and Cup (jokes that unfortunately many turned around Bendy’s stature but jokes at the end of the day)

Back to the thing about not acting like normal brothers would...

Unfortunately, in a few months the "overprotective younger brother complex" became more frequent, much to the dismay and surprise of the majority in the house. All but Felix seemed astonished at the discovery, probably because Felix did not know long ago the bad reputation of the Cupbros but still there was a difference.

Holly, for example, took it as if it was the discovery of the century because she perceived them as serial killers who only revolved around it, so one could already make an idea of how surprised she was when she discovered how easy it was to sadden Cup,which would lead Mugs to threaten to hit whoever caused it, which would then pass into an apology machine when he saw how his initial attitude made Cuphead sadder and as an extra would be accompanied with a poignant concern.

No, it wasn’t a surprise to him when everyone apparently agreed quietly that one of the worst things you could do in the house if you were a new patient was to make Cuphead sad, whether it was intended or not.
What surprised him was that Mugman was indeed capable of beating a sick man.

BUT if he ignores that part, he can concentrate on the part where he says that after living together for months, Mugs will only take seriously the reprisals with the NEW patients and not them, his friends, so he will take this as a breakthrough in his friendship if you don’t mind. (If in all this does not mention the millions of times in which Mugs watches against Jerry’s sanity).

And one question arises: Cuphead is just as intense? No, thanks to the stars and divine identities so that that was not so.

Still protective? Yeah.

Unlike the cold anger that emerges in Mugs the older brother is a flame that will not hesitate to burn you if you get too close, but it is preferable to the other brother because the flaming will rarely appear.

Cup was more the cheerful, funny, and mocking type if he wasn’t worried. He was having fun competing in an eternal prank war with Bendy, bothering Holly, Jerry and whoever he found entertaining to bother. Boris preferred that attitude, after all he is not the one who receives the jokes, plus, he is sure that probably everyone else would rather see him happy than sad.

Because a sad Cuphead means a cold, angry look from Mugs. That and because his happiness was enough to make many of the residents of the home happy.
(Especially to snowball, because apparently she can also notice that a happy Cuphead is better than sad)

So, in short, Mugs was a cheerful, playful guy who was easy to get angry, accompanied by an anger that would scare the country’s most intimidating guy but with an equally big heart.

Cuphead was a joker and just as playful as his brother, a guy easy to make worry and sad but who is equally capable of putting in his place whoever challenges him or threatens them.

They act weird? Yes
Are they a danger to society? Yes, of course
They fight often among them? Yes

That Boris considers them friends?

Yeah, reliable friends who support him and Bendy no matter what happens.

Notes:

Well, if you’ve noticed, I’m not good at writing in English. It’s not my first language to be honest, so please feel comfortable correcting my bad autograph.

In case you’re wondering, it’s an attempt of mine to write about what the cupbros' relationship might be like by changing the fact that it’s now Mugman who has demon blood.
I was originally going to write this from Mugs' perspective but I guess I strayed and now Boris is my test subject, but rambling through history, I think I ended up mixing his original personalities with the ones I tried to create.

Mugs' personality was mostly based on the personality he has on the Cuphead show, you know, that aggressive temperament of season 2 was fun to see so I thought it would be equally fun to add that temperament to IM’s Mugman.

On Cup’s side, I thought that not having demon blood would be a little more cheerful as the blood made him more grumpy and angry BUT, with Mugs now having that problem I found something funny in changing that angry attitude for a sad and worried one. (Especially because it would make fun the opinion of others regarding someone from the mafia who instead of imposing fear or something like that was a depressed guy).

I’m not sure the story was good or if I’ll write about it again soon but I guess I can live with the shame. Thank you for reading!
