Chapter Text

Pittsburgh

Daisy has been tossing and turning in bed for the last twenty minutes and finally gives up, throwing the blankets off and shuffles out of the room and down the stairs to the kitchen.  She’s still not sure how she was convinced to stay at Marlene Dunne’s house in Pittsburgh in a bedroom that shared a wall with Billy and Camila. This might top the list of dumb things Daisy has done, which is saying a lot considering her past. Marlene was so warm and welcoming to Daisy, embracing her the way she imagined mothers should. But that warm fuzzy feeling was quickly negated as Daisy laid in bed listening to Billy and Camila’s muffled chatter and laughter that eventually turned into soft moans Daisy wished she could have ignored. The undeniable truth of what Daisy wanted for herself hit while lying in that bed, but with that came the waves of pain that didn’t stop even after the room next door grew quiet.

This is how Daisy finds herself in Marlene’s kitchen in the middle of the night making a cup of tea, debating if she can be quiet enough to pack her things and call a cab to the hotel Karen is staying at. She sits at the kitchen table, silently berating herself for being in this position in the first place, when she hears someone on the stairs. Fuck, she thinks to herself. She can’t make her escape if someone is awake.

Billy walks into the kitchen, clearly startled to see her sitting there.

“What are you doing down here? Can’t sleep?” Billy questions her.

“Kind of hard to sleep with all of the noise coming from the room next to mine,” Daisy can’t help but spit venomously at him.

She expects him to rise to the bait and start a fight with her, which to be honest is exactly what she is looking for to help her get rid of all this pent up energy she is feeling.

To her surprise, Billy looks sheepish when he responds.  “I’m sorry. You heard that?”

“Kind of hard not to. You realize the rooms share a wall right dumbass?”  She’s not ready to give up on this fight yet. If she gives him enough attitude he’ll fight back.

“You weren’t supposed to hear any of that. That shouldn’t have happened.”  Billy actually looks pained by what he’s saying, deflating Daisy’s hopes to see his temper flare.

“You don’t have anything to apologize for.  You were fucking your wife. That’s what married people do.”

“Daisy,” Billy trails off, not completing his thought, and instead sits at the table across from her.

“Since you’re up do you want a cup of tea? The water in the kettle should still be hot” Daisy offers.

“Yeah I think I will,” Billy tells her as he moves to get up.

“Stay. I got it.”

Billy watches as Daisy stands and is momentarily stunned into silence. Daisy is wearing a T-shirt that just skims the bottom of her ass.  He stares at her long bare legs and his hand reflexively goes to the back of his neck while he tries to gain his composure. As she reaches up to grab a mug on the top shelf the T-shirt rides up, exposing her barely there white lace underwear. It’s almost too much for Billy to bear.

“Shit,” Daisy grumbles, unable to reach the mug at the back of the shelf. Billy realizes she can’t reach and is quickly up out of his seat and standing behind her before his mind has a chance to catch up with his body.

He’s pressed up against her back and reaches over her for the mug and puts it down. He moves both his hands to rest on the counter on either side of Daisy and instinctively closes his eyes and breathes in the citrus scent of her shampoo. He moves his head into the crook of her neck and his lips just barely graze her soft skin. He feels himself grow hard against her back, but he surprises himself when he doesn’t move away to hide his desire for her. He knows he’s being selfish, but he wants her to know what she does to him.

Daisy is used to men wanting to sleep with her. She quickly learned at age 15 that this is what most of them wanted from her. She knows Billy finds her attractive, having caught him on more than one occasion staring at her boobs or legs or ass.  But he would quickly turn away, guilty for letting his desire show through his self-built steel walls. But right now Billy isn’t turning away, he isn’t moving. If anything, he’s actually pushing into her back harder, leaning into her neck and she swears she thinks she felt his lips touch her.  Daisy is curious about this side of Billy so against her better judgment she continues to stay still to wait him out, to see just what he will do. How long until the wall comes crashing back down that Billy so carefully constructed around himself? When will he remember his wife upstairs?

Billy’s heart is thudding so loudly in his chest he thinks Daisy must hear it. But yet she hasn’t shoved him away violently, told him off, and stalked out of the kitchen, which makes Billy only grow braver by the second. Because he understands Daisy so well, he knows she is waiting for him to make the next move, whatever that is going to be.

Being this close to Daisy, like he’s wanted to be since he first heard her voice, it’s like he has no choice and the words just start tumbling out of his mouth.

“I was thinking about you the whole time, you know.”

“Thinking about me when Billy?”

“Before. Upstairs. When I was with Cam. What you heard.”  Billy can only get fragments of thoughts out and now that he’s said them he’s not sure it was the right thing to admit freely.

“What were you thinking about?”

“I wished it were you Daisy.” Bill’s voice is just above a whisper as he lets her in on his shameful secret.

“What do you mean?”

Billy chuckles. Of course she won’t let him get away easy with this. She’s going to make him say the words. He’s gone this far, he might as well tell her everything. He thinks he at least owes her honesty.

“I want to know what it feels like to be inside of you, to taste you, but most of all I want to know what you sound like when you come because of me.”

Daisy’s breath catches at Billy’s words. She’s not sure what to make of this confession, or how long it will take for him to come to his senses and push her away, disgusted by what he just said. But she wants to see his face, look into his eyes to help her understand what’s going on right now. She slowly turns to face him.  His hands never leave their position on the counter, keeping her securely in his personal space.

When her eyes meet his she finds the obvious lust and desire, but she’s surprised to also see tenderness, vulnerability, and honesty there.

Billy keeps going because what the hell does he have to lose now. “I want to kiss you right now but I don’t know if you’ll let me.”

“I shouldn’t let you.  I shouldn’t want you to.”

“I know.”

“You were just with her.”

“I know. I don’t deserve to be here with you right now. I don’t deserve you at all.”

Against her better judgment, Daisy brings her hands up to the back of Billy’s head, wrapping her fingers in his curls and pulling his face to hers so their foreheads touch.

Billy leans in and kisses her tentatively, just brushing his lips with hers, waiting to see if she will give her permission for more. She grants it by opening her mouth against his, inviting his tongue inside. Billy wraps his arms around her waist and pulls her close to him.

Daisy is the one to break the kiss first, pulling back and looking up at him. “Billy what is this? What are we doing?”

He’s filled with courage and determination when he answers her. “We’re doing what we both want.  What we should be doing.”

He kisses her again, and lets his hands wander from her waist down to her ass and over her thighs.  A soft moan escapes her lips and encourages him on. He slips his hands under her T-shirt and grabs at her hips to pull her into him.

“Fuck Billy,” Daisy practically whines when she feels him hard against her.

Billy slides his hand into her underwear and feels how wet she is for him. He pulls back and looks into her eyes. “I want to make you come baby. Will you let me?”

Daisy is almost positive she will regret it later, but in that moment all she wants is him, in any way she can have him. “Yes I want that.”

Billy slips one, and then two fingers inside of her, his other hand tangled up in her hair, pulling her head back to give him access to her neck so he can suck gently on her pulse point. She moans as he works her harder, and it damn near makes him come in his sweat pants. Her voice has always done something to him, but having her moan like this, because of what he is making her feel, almost puts him over the edge. He can tell she is getting close by the way her legs tremble and her fingers dig into his back as she calls out his name over and over again. “Come for me baby. I’ve got you,” he whispers in her ear and it’s all she needs to completely unravel.  He watches as her eyes squeeze shut with pleasure overtaking her body and he thinks it’s the best thing he’s ever witnessed.  He removes his fingers and brings them to his mouth and sucks them in, needing to taste her.

Daisy is still holding on to him, so he wraps his arms around her and holds her close while she recovers. A few moments later she pulls away. She looks sad and he doesn’t understand why. He’s feeling alive and light, fucking happy, but she’s looking at him with tears in her eyes.

“I’m going to head to the hotel for the rest of the trip,” Daisy tells him the first thing that came to her mind. She knows she needs to leave, protect what’s left of her heart because she doesn’t think she can bear waking up in the morning in this house to see Billy with Camila. Not after what they just did. What she so readily agreed to and wanted.

“What do you mean? Like now? You’re leaving now?” Billy is completely confused. He thought they were on the same page. He thought she wanted him and loved him as much as he did her. But now she wants to leave him.

“You can’t leave. Not now. It’s the middle of the night.”

“Billy, I can’t be here when you wake up in the morning with your wife.”

Billy understands then that Daisy doesn’t know. She doesn’t know that he loves her and is choosing her. How could she know? He only told her he wants to fuck her and then did just that. In the kitchen of his mom’s house with his wife upstairs.  He feels a sickening in his stomach for how wrong he did this.  Daisy deserved so much more than this, and yet he treated her no differently from the other men in her life. He knows he needs to rectify this quickly if he has any chance of actually being with her.

“Daisy give me a chance to fix this. Let me do this right. I have to get something right.” Billy pleads with her.

Daisy isn’t really sure what he means by fixing it, but she sees the desperate look in his eyes so she just nods, and goes back upstairs to her room, leaving Billy alone in the kitchen.

After a few restless hours of sleep she figures there is no use hiding in her room all day. She needs to go downstairs and face what she did. She made her bed, now she has to lay in it, and all of that. She grabs her silk robe and follows the smell of fresh brewed coffee.

Daisy finds Marlene and Billy in the kitchen getting breakfast ready, and Julia at the table. No sight of Camila so Daisy is able to breath a little bit easier for now. Billy catches her eye and gives her a wink, which sends shivers down her spine.

Julia sees Daisy and immediately begs her to sit next to her, and she naturally obliges. She really does love that little girl. Marlene puts plates of eggs, bacon and toast in front of them and Billy follows up with a cup of coffee for her.

“Camila already left for the day. She said something about errands with Karen. And my mom is taking Julia to the park for the morning. So that just leaves us here.”  Billy tries so casually to tell Daisy, hoping to calm the anxiety he can see in her eyes.

Once breakfast is done and cleaned up and Julia and Marlene are gone, Daisy heads to the porch with this morning’s paper and a second cup of coffee. Billy follows her out and sits next to her, so close their thighs touch. She’s doing the crossword puzzle and they fall into an easy rhythm of light banter and lingering touches.  She’s not really sure what any of this means for Billy or their future, if there even is a future for them. But Daisy knows right in this minute that she's happy and wants this moment to last forever. She’s afraid if she blinks it will all be over.  Billy will tell her last night was a mistake and he belongs with his wife. That’s why she doesn’t hold back the next thought that comes so naturally to her. “We should be together.”

“I want that too.”  Billy knows now is his time to tell her everything, to say what he should have said last night.

“Daisy I’m in love with you.  I want to be with you.” He pulls her to him and cups her checks with his hands while he presses his forehead to hers.

“Can you wait for me to figure things out with Camila? I need things to be amicable for Julia’s sake.”

Daisy searches his face for any hint of a lie, but when she sees none she allows herself to smile and shakes her head yes. Billy responds by kissing her like the hungry man he is. Thoughts swirl in his mind about taking her upstairs to show her just how devoted he is to her, but he knows he has to be patient too. He wants to do this right with Daisy.

The porch door slams shut with a loud thud, causing them to jump back and find Camila standing there, arms crossed over her chest and eyes like daggers glaring at them.

“So how long has this been going on? Actually no. I don’t want to know. All I will say is when this tour is over, Billy you will come home and be the husband and father you are supposed to be. And keep this little affair discreet. Do you understand me?”

Camila abruptly turns and stalks back into the house, leaving Billy and Daisy wondering what the hell just happened.
