Chapter Text
Hiroshi had been confident when he received a call to have a first meeting with the staff for this new radio show. He had over ten years of experience in the voice acting industry, was appreciated by his colleagues, whether it be other voice actors or producers, and well, this was just an opportunity to expand his business, really. Nothing to stress about.
As he made his way through the building to the meeting room, he saw a man approaching him. He was biting his lip and playing with his fingers, counting them over and over, squeezing them. Trying to relieve stress, probably. Hiroshi was familiar with stress. He would like to say that it came with the position: a promising young actor starting to get very popular, trying to restart his career with a kick after a life-threatening accident. However, truth be told, he had always been anxious, so he could empathize with the young man quite easily. What he couldn’t understand, though, was why the man was not looking in front of him while he walked.
The man bumped him. Only their shoulders touched, thankfully, because Hiroshi really appreciated his personal space and did not like people who were not mindful of not intruding on it. But then, it hit him. His heartbeat accelerated, and the blood coursing in every vein in his body felt like an electric shock. Then, he felt it. Surprise, but not his own.
Shit.
Daisuke arrived early to the meeting. This was his first radio show ever, and an invaluable opportunity to launch his career. He had started to get a few famous roles, but he did not have a solid fanbase yet. This radio show, about solving their girl listeners’ love life problems, was a step to solidify the charmer, seductive personality that his agency was pushing him towards.
Frankly, he was terrified. What if he couldn’t keep the act? This was not him, at all, and there was a difference between acting for a few hours and making a radio show every week for a year. His improvisation skills were limited. Daisuke, well, had not been in the seiyuu industry for a long time. He was a baby, still, metaphorically, and that was his other problem. What if his co-star was so much more talented than him, much more confident, and he ended up not talking that much? He feared letting everyone down; his agency, the radio staff, everyone.
This anxiety was making him piss himself. Well, he could still hold it, but as he greeted the staff, sat down in the meeting room, put his bag down, the urge strengthened. Seeing he had ten more minutes before the official meeting time – of course, he had been early – he decided to go to the restroom.
He hurried through the hallway, fidgeting, not looking where he walked, when suddenly, he hit something. Someone, he realized, as he felt a buzz like static electricity go through his shoulder. No, stronger than that. Like he was being electrocuted, almost, although Daisuke had never really been electrocuted. Was he going to die? Probably not. The shock was quickly receding, and that’s when he felt it. His shoulder was annoyed. Wait? Surely that was not right?
Hiroshi didn’t register what was happening at first. He had heard of it, but he did not completely believe it. However, when a strong, foreign feeling of confusion overpowered him, he instantly knew it was not coming from himself, but from the other man, who had been looking at him with wide eyes for the past thirty seconds. Dumbass.
“You…,” the other man said.
“Hi, uh,” Hiroshi greeted him, trying to find a way out of this conversation. “Watch your steps next time.”
“We should get to know each other. Maybe give me your contacts?”
“No need. I will find you,” Hiroshi lied, walking past the starstruck man towards the meeting room.
He entered the meeting room, greeted the staff, and thought this hellish start of the day was over, but five minutes later, when he was getting comfortable, that’s when the man entered the meeting room.
Daisuke had heard about it, of course. As a romantic, he had dreamed of this moment his whole life, but as a queer man, he figured he would never meet his soulmate, if he even had one. If the soulmate was a woman, would she be accepting of his queerness? But then, if the soulmate was a man, it was nearly impossible they would be living close enough to meet. That’s why, when he finally realized where – who – the annoyance was coming from, he erupted in joy.
His own soulmate. His love. The beautiful, handsome man, told him that he would find him in such an assertive way? Daisuke had never heard something that hot. He made his way to the restroom, completing his business, before coming back to the meeting room. This was the best, happiest day of his life.
This was the worst day of his life. There was no way the universe would do this to him. See, Hiroshi was straight. Completely, utterly straight. Boobs, that’s what he liked. So why did he get a man as his soulmate? Surely it was a joke. The universe was teasing him, toying with him. First, they made him wait more than thirty years to meet his soulmate, then they made him a man?! The gods had something against him.
The man was staring at him with a soft smile. Okay, he was kind of handsome. Kind of. Hiroshi answered with a cold glare. The man lowered his gaze, seemingly shy, but he was still smiling.
“I’m Kamiya Hiroshi. Pleased to meet you,” he said, politely but with no enthusiasm.
“My name is Ono Daisuke. I’m looking forward to working with you.”
Well, Hiroshi was sure as hell not looking forward to that.
His soulmate had the cutest little scowl. Surely, he was surprised, maybe shaken, and he was hiding behind his cold demeanor to stay professional. Daisuke then swore to himself that he would devote his life to making this man smile; laugh even.
They worked well together. After they recorded the first episode, there was no denying it. Hiroshi went back home, defeated. He had hoped to stay cold to Daisuke so that the man would feel intimidated and forced to stay away, maybe leave the radio show because of the lack of chemistry, but while Daisuke had been pretty silent, he hadn’t looked like he was intimidated. Nervous, yes, inexperienced, sure, but he was not scared of Hiroshi. He even had the dare to look fond of Hiroshi. Disgusting.
Hiroshi was not homophobic. Well, he thought homosexuality was unnatural, but it wasn’t like he wanted to attack or hurt homosexuals, so he wasn’t homophobic, right? Gay people could live their lives as they wanted as long as it was far from him. Which is why he was frankly startled when Daisuke didn’t show any sign of being unsettled by discovering a man was his soulmate.
Daisuke didn’t peg him as a gay man. He was manly and he seemed like he would be popular with the ladies…and he had called him cute, but that was a joke, right? Even then, there was no way Hiroshi was gay.
There was a possibility that people thought he was gay. From a slim stature and being on the shorter side, he didn’t have a very manly look. The baby face didn’t help, Hiroshi thought. However, apart from that, Hiroshi was your typical, conventional straight man. Well, he did get pegged once and like it, so maybe conventional wasn’t the right word, but that was something he would never, never admit, and never, ever try again.
Hiroshi wondered: would Daisuke like getting fucked? Hiroshi knew about gay sex, and in the BLs he had read – for work, not pleasure! – there was always some kind of anal sex involved. It was the only way, really. There was no way Hiroshi would allow someone to fuck him; well, except that one ex-girlfriend, but that was a mistake. He was a man, he could not get fucked. So, would he fuck Daisuke? Fucking a man would probably not be that different from fucking a woman, but then, no boobs. Harsh lines, a deep voice. Nothing that could turn Hiroshi on, and if sex didn’t work, then truly, what was the point?
Daisuke was overjoyed. Hiroshi had laughed at some of his jokes, he seemed to warm up to him. He had even sent him a text saying that he was glad that they did this radio show together! Surely that was a way to express his happiness at having found his soulmate! Hiroshi was still shy, but that was okay, Daisuke could win him over.
So yeah, Hiroshi did send that text. Those were his honest thoughts, though. He was an introvert who feared meeting other people, and he was nervous after their first meeting, but the first episode worked fairly well, and up until now, Daisuke had only been nice and accommodating. So, he figured, if they had to do this radio show together, they needed to be cordial at least. Hiroshi would set his boundaries, but he would get a little closer to Daisuke, to make the radio show work.
