Chapter Text
Hellooo! This is my first AU (that i've been brave enough to post) and there are just a few things that need to be said beforehand to make the story run smoother.
Firstly, if the tags and notes weren't already making it clear, this IS a Human Au! It takes place at a high school and most of the characters will be 15-16 years old. They are in their junior year. With that being said there are a few changes that have been made to make the story a tad bit more realistic.
A lot of the characters will have 'official' names. I just cant imagine someones mother looking at their child and deciding to name him "Biggie" or "Branch" in the real world. So i've decided to give them all OFFICIAL names and last names. Most, if not ALL the characters will go by their nicknames (their og character names) in order to make it easier to remember whos who. Heres a few of the names ive changed:
Smidge = Sammy/Samantha
Biggie = Billy
Branch = Brandon
Creek = Craig
Gristle = Grant
Cloud Guy = Clyde
I'll make a note if I change any more or if I write a name and it's unclear who it belongs to!
On that same topic, you are free to imagine the characters however you like, but i will be adding small details implying features about them that connect back to how I imagine them! Again, i wanted to keep it realistic and brightly dyed hair in a public high school does not meet those standards unfortunately. Poppy's iconic pink hair, for example, was exchanged for blonde hair with hidden pink highlights, kind of like barbie in a mermaid tale core. I originally wanted to make her a strawberry blonde but I thought of this really funny idea to give her full on pink hair at some point so there will be redemption I promise! They all have basic hair (for now) but i have some silly tricks up my sleeve :3.
Secondly, the characters mayyyy be a bit ooc (oops!). A lot of Poppy's journey revolves heavily around things that have happened to me personally! Unfortunately my life is NOT all sunshine and rainbows and people react differently in the real world than they do in a Dreamworks movie. Sammy/Smidge in particular will be the most ooc. I originally wanted to include my OWN oc in place of Smidge's character because I needed someone to play the role of MY irl bff but i wasn't sure if that would make it too confusing? Or if people just wouldn't be interested. I chose Smidge to reflect a very large role in this story cause I figured she would be the easiest to build a relationship with between both Branch and Poppy. Her character in particular is supposed to have a very close sibling-like bond with both the male and female protagonist, so i'm sorry smidge lovers if you're unhappy with how ooc she may be :'(.
FINALLY! There will be some swearing as well as mature themes and some suggestive content. I wont write anything insanely explicit (no smut!), but suggestive jokes WILL be made and certain things will be implied. Ill include warnings before any chapter that may contain suggestive content so that if you are uncomfortable with anything like that, you'll be given the opportunity to skip!
There also will be some underage drinking and a teeeensyy bit of drug usage but nothing insane. Again, I'll warn before it happens.
That's all for now. I'll be leaving notes between chapters to keep yall updated. I'm not sure how often I'll be able to update as I am a college student w/ a job and writing is hard work aghh! But I do already have three chapters written so theres that!
P.S. there wont be any crazzyy angst. I'm a Creek hater till the day I die but hes not evil or dangerous in this AU. Just kinda creepy and annoying. I'm a lover of fluff so that will be like 90% of the story hehe.
