Work Text:
It had been a year.
A whole year, and San still felt that same anxiousness inside whenever he was away from Wooyoung for too long.
The last hear together felt like a symphony woven in morning lit dew, the gentleness of a dandelion blowing in the wind, carrying a carefully crafted wish that had been dreamed upon with the magnitude of a single breath and hope that out-soared the stars.
Senior year had been the best time of San’s short life thus far. As President of WDIG, the biggest fraternity on campus, as a dance major in his final year of college, as a friend, a son, a brother, but most importantly, as Jung Wooyoung’s boyfriend and mate.
He can still remember what was happening to them the previous spring; they hated each other, or at least, they thought they did. Because of misplaced feelings, misconceptions, and lack of communication, they had gone months and months acting as enemies, thinking the worst of each other. San still feels a pang of regret, contrition at the thought of all the time they lost fighting against something that had already been decided for them. He chuckled now at the memory of his and Wooyoung’s wolves having enough of their bullshit and taking matters into their own— paws; bringing them together on the perfect night where the full moon shone too brightly to be ignored, consummating their union, despite themselves.
The year was coming to an end now though, graduation fast approaching in the next few weeks, and after that, everything would change again.
There would no longer be a list a mile on long on their fridge with chores for each member of the frat to do that week. There would no longer be Intak knocking on their bedroom door asking to play video games, there would be no Juyeon, Sunwoo and Jiung coming inside from basketball practice ravenous and ordering eight pizzas that would be scarfed down in a matter of minutes. There would be no Wooyoung and Yeosang laughing loudly in the kitchen while they made everyone pancakes on Sunday mornings; no Mingi and Yunho roughhousing in the living room, no Jongho and Keeho looking at the roughhousing like they were disgusted. No Kevin and Theo finding excuses to throw a party every weekend. No monthly visits from their previous president Hongjoong and San’s best friend Seonghwa, who had graduated the previous year.
San was going to miss it.
His classes had been great all year, he was satisfied with his grades, finals were pretty much over and done with, but the last four years he’d built a brotherhood with all the boys, even the couple of freshmen they had accepted into the frat when the new year started had even become part of San’s family. He couldn’t believe everything would be changing in less than a month, everyone would be onto a different facet of their lives, going their own separate ways; not seeing his friends every day would be weird, to say the least.
San stared out the window of the moving train he sat in now, watching the trees and mountains that passed in a blur, the night sky illuminated by a full moon and countless stars. He’d had to go back home to Namhae, his family had moved back to his childhood town, from Seoul, after San had started college; to visit his family for a couple of days, his sister had just given birth to a beautiful baby, and San had wanted to be there to meet his niece. She was incredibly tiny when San had held her in his arms, her scent was still undeveloped, it would come within the first six months of her life, but he could swear every time he put his nose to the top of her head he could smell lemongrass.
He smiled at the recent memory.
San felt his wolf shift through the trees, restless and searching. See, in the last year, this was the longest time he’d been away from Wooyoung. After they got together, they had effectively become attached at the hip, as people liked to say. They did everything together, it was sickening to most of their friends, they teased them endlessly every time they had to be apart for a mere couple hours because they would just be texting the entire time, wherever they went, they went together, even if Wooyoung left the room to go to the bathroom, San was constantly looking in the direction of the door, waiting for him to return.
Some may say they had become too codependent, and maybe not everyone understood their deep connection, San barely understood it himself; he’d tried at the beginning, studied up on the tales and lore of what fated mates were, what caused the phenomenon, what could happen, but after a while he just let it go, gave himself away to the need that coursed through his veins that felt like roots planted hundreds of years ago, so deep and long that it would be impossible to unearth them ever again.
If the circumstances had been different, San would’ve taken Wooyoung with him to meet his niece, no questions asked. His family all loved Wooyoung very much, but unfortunately the whole birth situation had fallen exactly on the days when Wooyoung needed to take his last two final exams of the year, so begrudgingly, San had agreed to go without him. A better alpha would feel shameful over the fact that he’d actually debated not even going, and just waiting a few more months to meet the newest addition to his family, his pack, unable to part from Wooyoung even for a day, let alone three or four.
In the end, it had been the omega that had convinced him that everything would be fine, that they wouldn’t die from being apart just a few days. San is also not proud enough to deny the fact that he had absolutely pouted at that notion, because he definitely thought he would probably die without his mate, without his scent, his touch. But after Wooyoung made a small nest around him, they’d made love, followed by some heavy scenting, then Wooyoung drove him to the train station and promised to be back to pick him up in four days, right on time.
San had made it two days.
He’d spent time with his parents, played perfect uncle to his niece and helped to pamper his sister who had been absolutely glowing with a new mother aura that had her husband attached to her at every moment, but that longing inside him couldn’t be quieted down. San had barely slept the last couple of days, rather he’d spent the night on a FaceTime call with the omega, watching him sleep, like some needy, deprived creep.
He’d gone online that same day and switched his ticket to the last train of the day, paid the difference which ended up being minimal, packed his small bag and got on the train back home.
Home.
A year ago that would’ve meant back to Namhae, back to his family home, to his parents, his sister, the town he grew up in; San was startled to realize how that had changed. The word home had taken a whole new meaning now. It was no longer a place, either, but someone.
Anywhere with Wooyoung would be home; his mate was his home, now.
His wolf howled at the full moon above them, incessant in his yearning, he whimpered his need, his desire. “Almost there.” He whispered, soothing himself and his alpha alike.
When the train came to a stop at the station, San grabbed his bag and was out on the sidewalk faster than he’d ever moved in his life, immediately jumping into one of the cabs that had been idling by the entrance, he gave the driver the house’s address and counted down the minutes until he made it back to WDIG.
It was a Thursday night, so San wasn’t surprised to see the house mostly quiet, though a few of the lights were still on as he went up the driveway. His key had never felt so heavy in his hand, everything in him was depleting faster and faster now that he was so close and getting the door finally open had made him feel as triumphant as Arthur pulling Excalibur felt.
“San ah!” A few of the boys were gathered around the living room, San could hear the telltale sounds of a video game playing through the speakers, he ignored everyone, not even glancing their way as he took the steps up to his floor two at a time, his mating bite almost burning on his neck where it had been placed over a year ago on a night similar to this one.
His alpha felt ravenous, caged and touch starved, he put his paws up against the front of San’s consciousness, pushing harder, forward, picking up speed, his bag had been dropped in the hallway in his near gallop and the hallway felt like it stretched for miles and miles rather than feet, but their door was closed and San need only turn the knob.
He nearly fell to his knees at the view that met him.
It wasn’t anything he hadn’t seen before hundreds of times, yet it took his breath away anyway. San didn’t think it would ever cease to amaze him, that that omega, was his, all his, always and forever.
Iridescent light shone through the window, painting the bed in white. He approached as quietly as he could, not consciously, but as if in a trance, Wooyoung’s scent lifting him off the ground, he floated towards the oasis where the omega slept serenely. San could only map the contours of his body with his gaze. His black hair fell over one eye, hiding half his face as he laid on his stomach. San drew down the perfect line of his shoulders, slithering down the curve of his spine that centered a soft, tanned back. He could count each vertebra from memory, until they fulfilled their journey in the valley that were the two dimples above the flawless curve of Wooyoung’s ass, long toned legs stretched underneath.
San felt his mouth water, his scent spiking until it filled the room, so suffocating he could almost taste it in its desperation. His eyes flashed in the next moment when he saw Wooyoung crane his neck, searching sleepily until his eyes slowly opened and he blinked. Wooyoung took a lungful of air, deeply inhaling and holding it as if it was a drug, and he knew, he knew San was there, acutely aware of his scent in the room now, much more overwhelming than the hoodie of San’s he currently had under him to help him sleep.
Wooyoung turned onto his back, limbs shifting slowly as awareness woke him, and San could only stare, barely holding himself back at the foot of the bed, only because he didn’t want to scare Wooyoung, he didn’t want to show him the beast that was somehow awakened inside him. It stalked forward, a beastly form with bare teeth and a rabid gaze.
His skin was hot to a temperature that was inhuman, his clothes felt constricting, and he stood there silently, trembling with something too huge and overbearing to understand or hold at bay. The depths of his need burned brightly, fire inside him, in a pit that could burn him alive from the inside out if he didn’t stave off the flames. Creosote flakes drifted through his mind, coating his veins in soot that could only be cleansed again by his mate, by his touch, by his taste.
San hesitated, his own mind making him pause at the foreign, possessive, all consuming feeling he was experiencing. Was this what happened to any mates that spent time apart? Was it because they were fated? He couldn’t answer that question, not now anyway. Something in him cracked when he smelled his omegas slick. Wooyoung’s eyes were glassy, staring up at him from the bed, his skin breaking into goosebumps as his orange blossom honey scent twirled and twined its way around San’s cherry blossom’s, he could almost see it around them, coating the walls in thick molasses that felt like inherently them.
San growled, he felt it in his chest, tearing at his lungs more than he heard it in his ears; his canines pushed through his gums achingly, heavy with a need to sink into skin. His fingers curled in on themselves, and his still barely conscious brain wondered what was happening to him. This didn’t feel like a rut, it felt like more, even more savagely torn out of his psyche than losing his control and giving into his primitive desires to simply fuck the life out of his mate for a few days.
No, this felt like he could consume the omega whole if he let himself; he wanted to crawl under his skin and attach himself to every cell in his body. He wanted to infiltrate his essence into the water in the molecules in each of the cells that made up each organ in Wooyoung’s body; he wanted to thoroughly alter his DNA, until no functionality could be possible without San being a part of him, immovable. Coating everything inside him, with him.
The thought scared him.
After they’d mated and gotten together, there had been no need for jealousy or insecurity between them, it was clear down to a spiritual level that they were it for each other. The thought of anyone else was revolting. So, San knew this wasn’t that. It wasn’t possessiveness that one felt for their things, or for their significant other; it wasn’t wanting to keep Wooyoung away from anyone else that could threaten, it was derisory in comparison.
This felt uglier, soul scorching, like being branded and unable to let go; brainwashed and conditioned to serve only the purpose of loving him, loving Wooyoung, giving himself down to ragged bones, for he wanted Wooyoung to alter his chemical make up too; he wanted, he needed, he wore it on his face unobscured.
Wooyoung was staring up at him, naked skin bathed in moonlight, and he gasped almost silently, just an intake of air as his eyes searched San’s face, like he could see everything San was thinking, swimming in his less than cognizant thoughts, dipping his body deep into the depths of San’s desire, letting it capture him there, bundled into a trap sticky sweet.
Willingly.
Daringly.
“Alpha.”
The single word made the leash holding San back snap like a vine. He could picture it in his mind, how fell into the abyss of whatever this was, powerless to stop it. The next thing he knew, he was finally, finally, on top of the omega.
Starved lips clung to each other in something that barely resembled a kiss; he could hear their panting breaths, his clothes being torn, shredded by Wooyoung’s protruding claws, something that San had only seen during one of Wooyoung’s past heats; but they were there, sharp and dangerous as they cut through his clothing with the mere ease of scissors.
His wolf suffocated him, until his abled mind blacked out, the alpha taking the reins.
His wide shoulders shifted as his wet tongue trailed down the omega’s neck, whimpers loud in his ears as his teeth bit a path down onto his chest. The alpha licked and sucked on both of the omega’s perfectly browned nipples, feeling the smaller buck underneath him where he was caged, a keen sound tearing from his throat as he moaned loudly, fingers buried into the alpha’s hair, tugging wantonly; he growled in response, his hands shifting and pinning both wrists above them with force as he went back to licking, sucking and biting his way through the expanse of his omega’s chest, marking him as his, over and over and over.
Wetness soaked both of their groins, the omega’s legs shifting and lifting, bending himself in half, presenting himself for his alpha to take, just for him; and who was he if not indulgent and cosseting. His cock sat heavy between his legs, hard and hot to the touch, a pulse of its own as it pulled him forward like a magnet trying to attach itself to steel.
His body bowed in service, hips rutting against the smallers, he could feel his equally hard cock, leaking against his stomach as he rubbed himself upwards with abandon. The head of his cock caught against the wet hole, the sensation made them both gasp into each other’s skin, teeth bared, and pupils dilated. He pushed forward with too much momentum into the wet canal of the omega’s entrance, his back arched as the alpha bottomed out, filling him like he needed, like they both needed.
Slick pooled under them, making the sheets chafe uncomfortably, but they didn’t even realize, not when his body started to move of its own accord, slamming into the smaller with so much force he wasn’t even breathing, his speed too fast to even allow them to catch their breaths.
He felt rather than saw his claws start to come out, pointed and long as they curved onto the mattress, stabbing holes into the fiber, where each of his fingers dug in, giving him the leverage for the rest of his body to be used as the weapon it currently felt as, coiled with livewire tension as he moved against his mate.
His muscles ached, though it didn’t register, sweat trailed over his back, over his hips, down his chest, it bunched and formed droplets that fell from the tip of his nose, his nipples, his abs, all of it laved the smaller. The omega was near pleasured screams, sweaty hair plastered against his forehead, reddened cheeks, pink lips bitten raw as he tried with all his might to bring his legs further and further up, splayed flexibly open until he couldn’t go anymore.
His hole had a vice grip of the alpha’s long, thick cock, almost unable to move in and out anymore, he lowered, plastering them together as he grinded into the omega, their body fluids helping him slide against him, his hips making short, sharp thrusts that were making the omega’s eyes roll back, incoherent sounds that barely resembled words spilling out of him, begging as his claws sank into the alpha’s back. He hissed at the burn his salty sweat created against the new wounds, but it only made him more agitated, needing to fill his omega to the brim with his cum, needing to keep it inside him, so far in it would never come out.
He rolled them to the side, unable to detach them. The alpha trapped one of the omega’s legs under his torso, his claws sinking into the other free thigh, bringing it up to rest against his shoulder, wetness suffused his fingertips as the claws broke skin, his other hand grabbed a fistful of the omegas hair, yanking his head back to bare his neck as his thrusts became erratic once more.
His tongue lapped at the neck, at the exposed mating bite, his tongue now coated in orange and honey, his gaze went blurry with satisfaction, and he couldn’t stop growling, trembling as his body became someone else’s. His muscled tightened, all acute power and strength boiling down to single mindedness of this, of his omega, of pleasing and providing, of being the best alpha he could be.
He saw it in his omega’s eyes then, that same yearning he’d been seeing so often lately, that carnal, primitive pleading to be bred, to be filled with life. He knew it would happen eventually, a family of their own, a pup that looked like the perfect mixture of his omega’s tawny fur and his own gray one. His omega whined and sobbed against him, even more slick rushing out of him, inviting, and the alpha just wanted to give him everything, and even though he knew it wouldn’t take, that their pesky human forms had taken precautions in the way of birth control, that he couldn’t actually fuck a baby into his omega, yet, it was the thought that brought him rapidly to his climax.
The link that would change them irrevocably forever; inevitable, just like everything else that pertained to them.
His rhythm faltered, and the alpha threw his head back, howling and growling as he came, his cum filling his omega to the brim just as they’d both wanted. Before he fully came down, he groggily wrapped a hand around the omega’s erection, letting him rut against his quickly inflating knot that was locking them together, and fucking into his fist for a few seconds before spurts of cum were covering him in every direction, claws sinking into his bicep, teeth sunken onto the top of his left pec with a mewl.
All he could do was nuzzle into his omega, his nose buried into the smaller’s neck, cinders glowing in the wake of his sated desire.
San was panting as he opened his eyes again. Something in him aware of what had transpired. Wooyoung clung to him, shaking and breathless as his tongue licked over San’s mating bite, which felt almost alive, as if it was fresh. Something in him settled, satisfied for the time being, he hugged Wooyoung tighter.
“Baby?” He whispered after a long while, his voice was hoarse, like he’d been screaming; his hand trailed down Wooyoung’s still dampened back, who settled on top of him now, straddling him as he rested his head on San’s shoulder, even though his knot had deflated some time ago, they were still attached, drunken in the need to feel close.
San smiled when those doe eyes focused on him, warmth filling his extremities, the feeling of home nestled into his heart, everything finally right again.
Before he could say anything else Wooyoung was suddenly kissing all over his face sloppily, his cock dislodged from the smaller’s hole with the movements but not even the sensation of newfound wetness as San’s cum dripped down to their thighs registered as Wooyoung continued to kiss and lick everywhere he could reach, making San burst into giggles of happiness, holding his mate tighter against him, dropping his own kisses onto his head and temple, heart beating harshly against his ribcage.
“Fuck, I missed you so much, Young ah…” San whispered. He never knew it was possible to miss someone that much, like a missing limb, phantom pain blinding. “I know you said we wouldn’t die from being away from each other for a few days, but— I just…” He couldn’t finish, choking on emotion.
“You’re never allowed to be away from me again, San. Not again.” Wooyoung croaked, his bottom lip wobbling as he looked down at him before burying his face into the crook of San’s neck again.
Just then, San realized that it hadn’t been just him feeling nothing but asleep in a tomb. He’d thought the omega had been handling the situation better than he was, a smile on his face whenever they video called, the link in their mate-hood easily manipulated since they had been physically hours away from each other.
But Wooyoung had been missing him just as much. Had been needing him and wanting him just as much. A rush of endearment coursed through him then, at the new realization that Wooyoung had been willing to hurt like this to give San time with his family, he hadn’t wanted to keep San away from his family pack, hadn’t wanted San to miss this important milestone…
“I love you so much, baby.” San kissed Wooyoung’s lips tenderly, hands sliding down his naked back to settle around his waist, pulling him tighter against himself. “Never again, okay? I promise.” He whispered, eyes closing to fight against the sudden rush of tears that wanted to fall.
Wooyoung nodded with a shiver. “I love you more.” He smiled. “I can’t believe you’re back. It felt like a month rather than two days.” He purred against him, feeling San scent him thoroughly. The omega would probably smell only of his cherry blossom for the next week.
As it should be, his alpha supplied, dark eyes boring into his subconscious.
San felt caught up in Wooyoung, caught and trapped in a dream he never wanted to wake from. Their scents filled his lungs, as their lips touched again, so gently it almost made a tear actually fall.
His forever was here, and even in a few weeks when their lives had to change again, they would go into the next chapter of their lives, a new apartment, jobs that waited for them, a future: together.
In a cherry blossom and orange blossom honey bliss San eyed the full moon through the window, Wooyoung starting to snore softly against his chest, he looked over to the clock on their bedside table, 12:42 AM.
San smiled contentedly, dropping another kiss to his omega’s temple. “Happy Anniversary, baby.” He whispered.
He closed his eyes, and let much needed sleep take him, finally home.
