The room was in the dark. The curtains were drawn, to prevent the sun's rays from passing through the window. In this silent room, only the owner's steady breathing could be heard. Lying under a blanket and his head between his arms, he slept soundly in Morpheus' arms. At his feet, a black cat slept just as peacefully.
Someone knocked on the door, disturbing the silence and waking up the duo who raised their heads at the same time, eyes still closed.
Yuder rubbed his face while the impatient stranger knocked again.
"Come in," he said his voice hoarse, still full of sleep.
And without waiting a second the door opened, letting the owner of the house stride into the room to open the curtains wide.
"It's almost noon," he said cheerfully, watching the young man blink. "It's time to get up."
Under Yuder's drowsy gaze, Kishiar opened the windows to air out the room, before heading towards the bed to sit down. The cat, named Yudrain, stretched and jumped on the ground before walking out to leave the two lovebirds together.
"Happy birthday, my love," Kishiar hummed, kissing his lover’s face.
"Hmm, thank you…" Murmured Yuder. Preferring as usual, simple and short words to say what he was thinking.
Kishiar looked at him with a smile, he quickly combed the black hair that looked like a nest before continuing to speak.
"To think we've known each other for more than sixteen years," he said laughing. "I remember our first meeting like it was yesterday."
Yuder nodded.
"Me too."
"Haha, you were so small and cute back then." Then Kishiar quickly caught himself. "Of course, you're still cute."
"I know, you say it all the time."
Kishiar smiled at him and moved to get out of bed, only stopping when Yuder grabbed his sleeve.
"My love?" He asked surprised.
"Stay with me," replied Yuder, pulling him forward.
Kishiar laughed and plopped down on the mattress. His slippers flew off, and he wrapped his arms around Yuder to roll with him in their bed, barely stopping at the last moment before they fell. He returned to the center and without releasing his lover from his arms, covered them with the blanket to disappear underneath.
He laughed as he kissed Yuder several times, his lips sliding down his neck and eliciting a chuckle from the ticklish younger one.
"Hehe," he laughed while trying to push Kishiar. "Sto-op."
"I love seeing you laugh," Kishiar replied conceding, moving away from him to look him in the eyes.
Yuder's smile remained on his face as they looked at each other.
"I have a gift for you downstairs," Kishiar said suddenly. "Shall we go?"
Yuder pondered, before sitting up and removing the blanket from their bodies.
"Yes," he replied, getting out of bed. "Besides, I'm starting to get hungry."
Kishiar watched him stand up, his eyes sliding between the exposed collarbone covered in bites and hickeys, and his bare legs which were in the same state. A pleased smile appeared on his face, like a predator satisfied with its hunt.
"You should stay like that," he said, seeing him grab some pants.
"I can't just stay in your shirt." Yuder replied, looking at the garment.
Kishiar shrugged as he got out of bed to put his slippers back on.
"It's just the two of us at home."
Yuder hesitated, weighing the pros and cons, then nodded under the resplendent gaze of his lover.
Kishiar approached him and grabbed him to lift him up, taking him in his arms as he left the room.
"It's dangerous," warned Yuder as they began descending the stairs.
At his words, Kishiar tightened his grip on his legs.
"I'm careful."
Once downstairs, he headed towards the living room where Yudrain was sleeping on one of the sofas. He placed him next to the cat, kissed his forehead, and stepped back to head towards the kitchen.
"Wait for me. I'll get your gift."
Yuder nodded and observed him walk away before shifting his attention to Kishiar's cat and stroking it. The latter had been adopted by his lover after being found during a walk in the forest several years ago.
Suddenly, Yudrain stood up. His ears were back and his tail puffed up and he was silently looking in the direction where Kishiar had disappeared.
Yuder frowned as he looked at the cat strangely and jerked his head when he heard Kishiar's voice.
"Oh ho, calm down big guy!" He said from behind the wall, before coming out with a large dog that he was trying to hold back.
Yuder quickly stood up, looking at the huge dog that was almost half his size.
"What is this?" Yuder asked, his eyes wide as he watched his lover hold the dog with his arms to prevent it from jumping on him.
"Your birthday present my love," replied Kishiar smiling. "This is Akit. He is six years old and has just been released from the hospital after spending several months there due to an illness."
Yuder approached the dog slowly and crouched down to get to his height.
"His previous owners abandoned him during his treatment," he continued with a frown. "When I found out, I paid to continue it. I was planning to give him to someone close to me, but when a few months ago you said you liked coming across dogs during your daily run, I immediately thought of you."
He looked at Yuder who was no longer listening to him, too busy having his face licked by Akit, whose tail was wagging faster and faster.
"I've been keeping the surprise since then," he finished, smiling. "And I'm glad you like it."
Yuder nodded, wrapping his arms around Akit. The huge dog quickly covered him and started barking happily.
"Do you know his breed?" Yuder asked as he wiped his face.
"It's a Pyrenees Mountain dog. Or also called Patou."
"He's big," Yuder remarked, before returning his attention to the animal.
Kishiar laughed and stood up to approach Yudrain who had not moved from the sofa, with his back still rounded. He petted the cat to reassure it, then allowed himself to be sniffed since the dog's scent spread into his clothes.
"Will Yudrain be okay?" Yuder asked as he looked at them.
"Well... As you know he is not afraid of dogs, as we saw with my brother's dog. I think it's just a matter of getting used to it."
"What about Akit?"
"He grew up with cats, so no problems for him on this point."
Yuder nodded, alternating his gaze between the two animals with a frown.
Kishiar took Yudrain in his arms and approached the dog slowly so as not to frighten him. Once in front, Yuder assisted him by holding Akit in his arms to prevent him from jumping on the cat. Yudrain's ears were laid back while Akit's tail was continuously wagging.
"I'm going to try to let go of Yudrain to see how he reacts," he said to his lover who nodded.
The cat hesitantly approached the large creature, slowly observing it. The couple didn't move an inch, but were ready to intervene at the slightest moment. Akit lowered his head to smell the cat, and the two began sniffing each other, while Yudrain's ears returned to normal.
Suddenly Akit licked Yudrain, wetting the cat's entire head with saliva which left him completely disheveled. Kishiar laughed as he saw his cat staggering around completely lost, and Yuder let a smile escape him.
"I think they'll get along well," he said, looking at his partner. "Thank you for the gift. I love it very much."
Kishiar smiled at him and kissed his hair, avoiding the remaining dog saliva.
"With pleasure my angel."
He was about to continue, but the gurgling of Yuder's stomach interrupted him, causing him to laugh.
"Let's go eat some cake," he said. "I picked up your favorite!"
