“So, we should probably start thinking of names for this one,” Carina said, sticking her spoon in the ice cream and rubbing her stomach with her hand.
“You’re probably right,” Maya said, “I am really tired of calling her baby, and we are sort of running out of time.
Carina was now three weeks away from hitting the third trimester mark.
“We have more than three months left, Maya,” Carina said, raising her eyebrows at her wife.
“I know, I just feel like we should do this now, and worry about all the baby prep in the next three months, like changing the guest room into the nursery, and I’m pretty sure Andy’s planning a Baby Shower for before Vic leaves, which is in three weeks,”
“Oh great,” Carina said, rolling her eyes.
“Do you not want one? I’m sure they aren’t going to go too crazy,” Maya said.
“I just don’t like having all the attention on me, and I feel like I have so much going on,”
“I know, but look on the bright side, at least we’ll get a bunch of stuff for baby so we don’t have to do that much shopping, plus, I bet there will be cake,”
Carina smiled at her. They sat together eating ice cream and reading both italian and american girls names off of their phones.
“Oh!” Carina suddenly said, gripping her bump.
“What! What, is everything okay?” Maya said quickly, immediately dropping her spoon on the bedside table and rushing next to Carina.
“I-I think so,” Carina said, as her hand reached for another place on her stomach. The worry left her face and she grabbed Maya’s hand.
“Yeah, yeah I’m okay, just feel,”
Maya’s face changed as she let her hand be led onto her wife’s stomach.
“Wha-” Maya said, and then she felt it.
“Was that a kick?” she said, a smile on her face.
“I’m almost positive it is, yes, I was scared at first, I’ve never felt anything like that.”
“Woah,” Maya said, her hand still feeling their baby kick, it was light but she could definitely feel it.
“Woah is right,” Carina said.
“What about Andrea?” Maya said suddenly, smiling up at her wife as she slid down to kiss the swell of her stomach. She immediately saw the furrow in Carina’s brow.
“I know it’s not a girl’s name in Italy, and we don’t have to, I just thought it would be nice, you know, to honor your brother, and it also happens to be my best friend's name, so, but if you don’t think that’s a good idea. We could even nickname it like Andy or like Drea could be cute?” Maya was rambling but Carina grabbed her face and pulled her back up.
“I love you,” she said, “I think it’s perfect, if you’re sure,” Carina said. Maya nodded enthusiastically.
After the ice cream was put away and Liam was checked on one last time, Maya was really sleepy laying on her wife’s chest.
“Andrea Lucia,” She said quietly, “That way we can have a little girl named after your people, since it’s my egg,” She mumbled.
“Are you sure?” Carina said, tears now falling down her face.
“Of course, my love,” Maya said, as she drifted off to sleep.
“Andrea Lucia DeLuca-Bishop,” Carina said quietly, a hand on her stomach.
