THE ECHOES OF THE LOST

Summary:

Based on the 2012 Farmhouse episode 'Buried Secrets'...but I'm going to make it one hell of a lot darker...and deeper I guess 🙃

What if the only turtle that April's fake mom consumed was mikey after he tried to prove himself to not be insane like his family called him?

And what if the others never got taken next.

...what if, one psychotic mom/monster kept her dark secret hidden deep within...literally.

What if Mikey was gone?

Can they figure it out and save him? Will he survive? Will he die?

Through twists and turns and a crap ton of suspense,

your just going to have to read and find out <3

(Now adding some of my own art to) 🎨

Chapter 1: THROUGH THE DARK OF NIGHT

Chapter Text

You know truth be told it wasn't actually that often that Mikey's intuition proved wrong, see out of the four of them he undeniably held the most raw, spiritual talent.

He was a free soul,

A vibrant beam of cluttered light,

That one yes when the room countered no.

He was everything right in a world so wrong...only, being that beam of luminescent care free light...it kind of contrasted his natural abilities,

Because it meant that no one ever listened where he was probably right.

No one believed when his feelings where strong.

Nobody thought twice when he battered an eyelid.

But tonight...tonight he was more determined than ever to prove himself...to show his brothers that he didn't just play the fool to be the literal fool,

There was so much more to him than jokes and mess...than goofing off and video games,

He wanted to be taken seriously for once in his life...to prove to the rest of the group that there was definitely something way off with April's 'Mom'.

He bristled his shoulders as he paced on through, hands clung tightly to his chucks either side of his belt where they sat in their old worn leather loops, a literal grab away if he needed them that urgently,

With each step further into the darkness of conveyed trees and dangling branches...his vacant mind swam with so many different thoughts and feelings that he struggled to even process...spun out from a conversation that occurred only a couple of hours ago back at the farmhouse,

All of those angered words spoken to him like he was just so wrong all of the time...

Like he couldn't ever be right.

Why?

Why did no one believe him?

Even Leo looked at him like he was insane...and Leo was the more sensible of the group, the guy with the  'think first act later attitude' and, If he didn't even believe him then what other choice did he have other than to just sneak off out into the woods at the dead of night.

"you attacked APRILS MOTHER"

He cringed at the near memories as he clambered on over a fallen log, he was pretty sure that the freaky women who claimed that she was Aprils mom had come this way.

"WHAT WERE YOU THINKING!?"

No, he knew he was right, he wasn't as stupid as they all assumed...he did understand how much this all meant but...he also had a duty as a ninja to protect his family

Master splinter always told them...'Always trust your instincts my sons...they are the little sparks of lig ht that ignite and guide your very soul, messages sent from deep within'

And if he were being honest, he didn't always understand that wise old phrase until these very moments occurred.

"THIS MEANS SO MUCH TO APRIL, IF YOU RUIN THIS FOR HER I SWEAR..."

And...then in saying that, it also hurt somewhere deep within his soul that no one ever listened to him when they needed to the most.

That women, with her piercing blue death stare and robotic like movements...that creature...the THING that he was currently trailing through moist muddied paths...

She was NOT Aprils mother, and like he said, he was going to prove it...no matter how long it took, whether it killed him or not.

They needed to know that he was right...that she was evil...and above all, his family needed to be safe.

And...if he just so happened to loose himself in the process of digging up the buried truth, well...then he could only hope that his brothers could add two and two together and get the answer to his unfortunate end.

-

He continued sulking on through those deep opaque woods as the wind howled hauntingly through the rustling green foliage...and the moon shone down sharing little light at all with the dampening ground below as a slow mist began to breeze down from the faraway clouds.

Usually he would never even dream to do this kind of thing alone, he hated the dark...HATED it, with an ever burning passion because,

Monsters hide amidst the deepest, darkest voids of the universe...telling their own haunting tales of death and destruction, portraying glimmering pointed fangs and jaggered claws...they thrived in the blackness of an oblivion or in amidst the dark shadows that patterned the earth very form, in caves or deep lakes, lanes and caverns...

But he did let the thought slide that maybe he could have nagged at Raph to come along at least, maybe even Donnie...or Casey!

'What have I told you about being stupid you moron'

'Just shut up Mikey'

No...he made the right choice in coming alone.

It had to be this way, he was the only one that had to prove himself right?

The only turtle with something left to prove.

The...

CRACK

shit.

His heart abruptly froze at the unwelcomed sound, at the rough feel of the stray twig snapping loudly beneath his bare foot, and those baby blues widened terribly as his body drove its self into a state of stiffened stillness,

And ever so slowly he looked up to the area far ahead where he last saw the women...the creature, skulking beneath moonlit branches and creaking trees misted with rain.

When he first caught sight of her an hour ago, she was walking eerilie slow ahead...carrying what he ultimately recognised to be a mutagen tank between her pale un-human like hands, he wasn't exactly sure why she had that...or why she even needed it...but he knew he was right about noticing that to.

And he so wished he could still be right...that he could still say she had it, that she was there...

because right now...as those vibrant baby blues scoured ahead, searching, hoping to land back onto her distant form,

his stomach churned violently and goosebumps began to slowly climb the back of his vibrating calf's, reaching way up top to the back of his freckled neck.

"Shit..."

Because in the dead of night...as the terrifying realisation suddenly dawned that he was completely alone with no one for miles to help him if she had heard that twig snap,

(Which he was pretty damn sure right about now that she did)

She was gone.
