three to get ready

Summary:

How do you move on after everything you've known is stripped away overnight?

Lie Ren has lived in Kuroyuri all his life. His family, friends, lover, career– everything he had ever known was in the small city.

Pyrrha Nikos is a high achiever. On graduating from Haven Military Academy as valedictorian, she is offered the position of Lionheart's right-hand woman. She leaves Kuroyuri and doesn't look back.

Nora Valkyrie is a soldier. Sworn to protect the city of Kuroyuri, she stands strong until the day she dies.

The day it all falls apart.

Notes:

HELLO this is yet another AU i have made for RWBY! This AU is less canon compliant than the other one(why the lotus wilts), being a whole other version of Remnant. It's a bit confusing but BEAR WITH ME HERE.

The work WILL contain a lot of angst and triggering subjects (see tags), and I will also be adding triggers for each chapter in the chapter notes if needed.

Most of the story will be written from Ren's perspective!

As always thank you for reading! My twitter is @renorarkos :)

Chapter 1: prologue

Chapter Text

The story starts in a small city in the nation of Mistral.

A child is born carrying the warmth of June, coming as a blessing to two loving parents that will live for him and care for him deeply until the day they die.

(And they die.)

Another is abandoned in the streets when she’s barely old enough to form sentences, taken by several people that find her but end up abandoning her somewhere else. She ends up in an orphanage. Her spark shines, seemingly inextinguishable.

(And she’s extinguished.)

The last moves from another city, a much larger one that she had once loved dearly. Now all it does is burden her, at her young age. She bends until people start wondering how she didn’t break.

(And she breaks.)

They find another version of home, friendship, love in each other, albeit every one of them experiencing each other quite differently. They love each other. Isn’t that what matters? Isn’t that enough? Wouldn’t that always be enough?

One day, it all comes crashing down. The future they had once pictured together is burned and ripped apart.

It was never going to be enough.
