The past and what it hides

Summary:

”Use this as a way to showcase your skills; I believe your past teachers will appreciate it.” Aizawa finishes off. Half of the class jumped up with joy at the new news. “Oh my gosh, I can’t believe this!” Hagakure screams out, her face held a bright smile as she excitedly jumps up and down. Though if you looked in her direction, you would only see a floating uniform.

“My teacher won’t even tell it’s me,” Denki announces, laying back on his desk proudly. “Same here; I’m like totally a different person now!” Mina screeched out; determination was written all over her face. “A teacher? A school teacher? I didn’t have one.” Todoroki announces nonchalantly. Making half of the class shot back at him, surprised.

“Really?” Jiro asked, star struck at the concept of someone not having a single teacher. “Aw man, that sucks,” Denki says apologetically. “Don’t worry, you can share my teacher!” Mina declares. Todoroki frowns

”I don’t think that’s how it works.”

Chapter 1: The beginning

Chapter Text

Midoriya walked into class with a huge smile on his face, he was excited. Yesterday, Mr. Aizawa told the class a new training exercise will be put into place. Usually Midoriya wouldn’t be pumped up for it, due to all things considered. Aizawa training was good, great even but he was tricky.

He learned that on the first day of class. When Mr. Aizawa lied and said the last ranked person on the exam would get expelled. Midoriya was fighting tooth and nail to get above last place, all because of a lie. It was not a fun situation.

All his classmates were used to their quirks, they weren’t the best but the control was there. Meanwhile, he couldn’t even use his without breaking a bone, literally. Midoriya was panicking that day, his brain was coming up with multiple strategies to somehow come in any place but last. Only to have Mr. Aizawa announced he was lying at the end. What a first day.

But now, Midoriya is stronger. He can used one for all without breaking any bones. He still can’t use one hundred percent but despite that, he's still proud of his progress. The new training exercises will increase his ability even further, it’s the main reason why he’s so excited.

But back at what’s in front of him.

Upon walking to class, the first thing Izuku noticed was Iida. As usual the boy was in the front of the classroom giving the others a lecture. “Class will start soon, everyone to their seats!” Iida lectures, tapping on the board to get the whole class attention. Some was talking, while others preferred watching the conversations around them.

“You’re the only one up man,” Kirishima points out, laughing at Iida’s flustered reaction. “Wait, didn’t this situation happen before?” Mina asked slumping on her desk. The question made a big discussion around the classroom, multiple hums of agreement was heard around the classroom, along with some nods in agreement.

“It did, during our first weeks at UA!” Denki points out, leaning into the center of the conversation.“I remember that too.” Sui Ribbited out from the side. Uraraka shakes her head, “I do too! But who pointed out before?” She asked puzzled. Her response was met with a few mutters across the room.

“I think it was you, Kirishima! Wait, or was it Denki?” Sero says, rubbing his chin. “I’m pretty sure it was Kirishima,” Momo adds to the chitchat. "No, no, it was definitely Denki." Ojiro disagrees.

An irritated groan left the mouth of nobody else except Bakugou Katsuki. “What are all you extras yapping about?” The boy yelled out, ”It’s too early for this!” As usual, a huge scowl covers his expression. Kirishima covers his mouth to hide a laugh. ”You’re more than welcome to join the discussion, Bakubro”

But If course, it didn’t stop Bakugou from hearing it. Multiple explosions left the blonde boy, making his face heated up with anger. “Shut up, there’s nothing funny!”

Midoriya thinks he walked into the classroom at the wrong time.

“What’s wrong Bakubro? Don’t want to talk with your friends.” Kirishima sneers, ignoring Bakugou look of pure rage. And Bakugou didn’t like that at all. “I said shut up,” Bakugou yells again. Fits of laughter erupted across the classroom as their angered classmate continued to grow more agitated. “What are you extras laughing at?!” Bakugou hollered out as he began standing up.

Midoriya looked at the situation with a dazed smile. As usual, the class is loud and active, even though it’s bright and early. "Midoriya, where have you been?” Iida suddenly turned to him, making everyone in the room follow his lead. “Midoriya, how did Shinsou over there beat you to class?” Denki says from the back of the classroom. Iida nods, agreeing with Deki’s words, “that is odd.”

“Ha ha, very funny." Shinsou sighs out unimpressed. The purple head had his head on the desk, trying but failing to avoid the early chatter. Shinsou eye bags peaked out of their concealment, they could even rival Mr. Aizawa’s on one of his descent days. Midoriya will talk to him about his sleep schedule later.

"Seriously, though, where have you been?” Uraraka asked, making everyone regain focus. All eyes were back on him in seconds.

Midoriya lets out a sigh, “I guess I lost track of time.” He says, rubbing his head. It wasn’t exactly a lie. Midoriya started the morning with a run across campus and then added a small quirk endurance exercise to his routine. It took a lot more energy than he thought. After the whole ordeal he found himself knocked out on his bed.

Keep track of time next time,” Iida told him, and Midoriya nodded sheepishly. The class president talked in a lecturing tone, but the worry underneath it wasn’t hid well. “Mr. Aizawa should be here anytime, we should-“ but before Iida could finish, a menacing presence was felt around the classroom.

”What are you three doing up?” A deep voice spoke from behind, making everyone in the room freeze. “Class started minutes ago,” Aizawa says, standing in the doorway, with a displeased look, as if he wasn't late himself.

Iida immediately grabbed Midoriya by the collar and scrambles out a jumbled sentence. “Sir, we will be at are seats momentarily!” Iida then drags Midoriya’s unmoving body to his seat with him. Bakugou let out a ”tch” as he sat back down.

Aiwaza walked to his desk with a sigh,“Due to your classmates interruption.” Aizawa paused to stare daggers at the three in question. Their reactions to the gesture varied. Midoriya visibly sunk further into his now-occupied seat, while Iida shut his eyes, disappointed in himself. Bakugou only scoffed.

“Our esteemed guests will have to wait longer.” Aizawa abruptly announced, making the whole class pop up. “Esteemed guests?” Midoriya mumbles out confused. “What? you said we were training today!” Kirishima says surprised and disappointed.

”Should have expected this. Mr. Aizawa always lies.” Jiro whispers, defeated. She leaned against her desk with a frown, wishing the class would actually do what was told to them one day.“I’ll pretend I didn’t hear that.” Aizawa uttered with groan.

The man looks tired, even though class has just begun. Aizawa's rather unpleasant expression made Jiro choke on the air around her. “I didn’t mean to say that out loud!” The girl voices, waving her hands to dismiss the earlier comment.

”Earphones is right!” Bakugou yells out, irritated, “This is ridiculous!” Aizawa rolls his eyes and continues on. “Anyways, back to what I was saying.” Aizawa then grabs a marker and begins writing something out on the board, ignoring the gawking eyes on him. “This is the schedule for today. The guests I mentioned earlier are here for,” Aizawa pauses for a moment, to find a way to explain the situation. “a progress report, I wish you the best.” He ends, causing the class to break into a ruckus.

“What do you mean, progress report” Bakugou yells out

“Who’s here to watch us?” Mina asked confused

“So we will be training then?” Kirishima asked hopeful

”Why does this have to happen?” Shinsou groans out

”Maybe it’ll help us,” Denki replied skeptical.

“This sounds interesting!” Iida adds in loudly

”Yeah, maybe we can fight then!” Ojiro adds on

Midoriya looks at the board while his classmates burst out with multiple questions, wide-eyed. The schedule today was strange—stranger than strange, weird. The class only had two periods located in the field. Normally, that wouldn’t be weird, but to have only two classes in a day? Yeah, that was weirder than weird.

Why do they need to be in the field for so long, and why are they getting observerd? All this is weird.

”Ok, everyone, stop with the question.” Aizawa ushers in, causing the room to become dead silent. “I’ll explain. The school decided to allow your previous teachers on campus to see your improvements.” Gasps broke across the classroom; most people were thrilled by the news, while some looked as if they had seen a ghost.

Most of the classes was content with the news, everyone but four students. Bakugou was looking out the window with an indifferent expression on. His signature scowl was expressed but if you looked closely it was laced with something else.

On the other hand, Kirishima looked nervous. The boy didn’t bother hiding it. He looked down at his desk in deep thought. The same is true of Shinsou. Both boys had something in common: school wasn’t the best experience, specifically middle school. Both boys were ridiculed for their quirk. Due to its convenience or its villainous power, they both were exiled in a way, all because society couldn’t handle their power.

The hero society had its ups and downs. On a positive note, people were safer, you could walk down the street and find multiple heroes around to help you. Villain attacks was common but heroic activity were even commoner. And the world social structure was slowly changing. People cared less about your status and more about your quirk. Which flows into the downside of hero society.

If you didn’t have a quirk, you had no place in society. Sugar coat it all you want to but it’s a true fact. The double joint study is proof enough. The quirkless is treated as soft delicate beings, not like your average quriked person. They couldn’t become heroes or work complicated jobs. Society believed that the minority was undeveloped, unable to provide for society.

Which brings us back to our current situation, Midoriya.

Midoriya was bullied due to the lack of a quirk. As the same with the other two, Midoriya was exiled from the class. Students would taunt him, and even would go as far as using their quirk against him. The worst part was that all the teachers would ignore it, turn their heads in a different direction, and act like nothing was happening. This new society had its Issues.

All four boys have one thing in common: they would rather leave their past behind. Be it was because of the shame, humiliation or the feeling of powerlessness. They all had their reasons.

Midoriya fiddled with the fabric of his sleeve as he tried to regulate his breathing. He needed to calm down. His face didn’t held the sunshine smile he always wore, this time it was scrunched up with fear. His hands were sweaty and his eyes were watery, this wasn’t what he expected at all.

He suspected some of the pros would watch the class, maybe some civilians but their past teachers? That never crossed his mind.

I need everyone to quite down for a moment.” Aizawa told the loud class, who quickly followed his orders. Midoriya yanked his head up to face the man along with the others. “We wasted enough time, let’s make our way out of the building. But first,” The pro looked around the room and locked eyes on the four that were actually rather unusual. One of them was Midoriya who froze in his chair.

”Shinsou, Midoriya, Kirishima, and Bakugou. I want the four of you to stay behind for a bit.” Aizawa told them. “The rest of you, make your way to the field, we’ll meet you soon enough.” Without protests, the class began emptying out the room, but not before giving the remainder a concerned glance.

Aizawa waited for all the rest of the students to leave before speaking. “Remember, you’re not obligated to tell me anything,” Aizawa starts off. “But I noticed the change in mood when I mentioned your old middle school teachers. Mind telling me why that is?”
