Izuru sighed loudly, staring at the clock on his wall. Exactly 4:00 on a calm, quiet, and slightly windy Wednesday. The wind wasn't too strong, as nothing in his backyard or front yard was blowing too roughly. The ideal day for any type of outdoor activity. He let out a slight huff upon walking into the kitchen, glad that a majority of what he needed was already put out. It was as clean as he left it last night, save for the few kitchen tools he required for today. All that was left was to actually finish up what he'd started on.
He carefully closed the little gate into his kitchen, just to make sure his cat wouldn't follow behind and get into something she wasn't supposed to. She let out a sad meow, clawing at the gate as she sadly watched her owner walk further into the kitchen without her. “You'll just make more of a mess than I want to. I'm sorry.” He silently stated, turning his head to look at the cat for a split second before he sighed and walked to the fridge. He pulled out a cold, circular, and small cake pan. Inside it there was a nice and fresh vanilla cake.
It was simply one layer, because the man hadn't planned on sharing with anyone or inviting anyone over when he decided the cake would be finished. He hummed something before taking out his phone, connecting it to the small speaker that rested upon his kitchen table. His main playlist began playing, mostly consisting of songs by an artist named Alex G. He moved to take out a small cake tray from one of the kitchen cabinets, placing it down and then carefully moving the singular layer of the vanilla cake onto said tray.
All that was left was to decorate it, and add icing of course. It took Izuru a second to cut up all the strawberries and fully ice the cake. Once it was finished though, it looked incredible. He took a look at the clock once more, 4:15 this time. Still plenty of time to waste, both inside and outside. He took his time moving back towards the cabinet that contained the top of the cake tray. When he finally found it, he moved back to cover the cake so nothing ruined it when he brought it outside. There was still plenty of things that could ruin it out in the open if left alone for too long.
Carefully picking up the tray, Izuru walked outside to his backyard and to the small white table near the tall wooden fencing and placed it down. He kept the lid on for now, as he still had to return inside to bring a couple more things out. Upon entering his kitchen once more, he found a much smaller tray, and placed the teapot full of tea onto it. As well as a small strawberry themed teacup and a couple utensils. He carefully walked back outside to put the last two items, looking around his feet just to make sure he didn't accidentally trip over his cat.
She kept purring and rubbing against his legs, desperate for attention despite knowing he was occupied already. “I'll pay attention to you soon..” He mumbled under his breath, carefully nudging her away from the table. She let out a small meow of disappointment, but took the hint and wandered off to chase a butterfly wandering around in the backyard. That would at least distract her for a bit before she came back for more attention. Izuru let out a hum of satisfaction as he decided to head inside for the last time until dinner.
Upon walking into the kitchen, he grabbed his phone and the small speaker he'd been using to play music. Placing his phone into his pocket and carrying the speaker with one hand, he decided to head back outside. Once he reached the outside table, he noticed his cat laying on the other chair. She looked as if she were asleep, and he genuinely couldn't tell if she was or not. Either way, he breathed a sigh of relief as he placed down the speaker, deciding to resume his music that he'd been playing earlier.
There were soft birds chirping, small windchime noises, music, and the soft sound of wind blowing in the background as he relaxed into his seat. Slowly, Izuru opened the cake tray, placing the lid towards the edge of the table. If it fell off that was fine, he'd pick it up, at least it wasn't the cake that would be falling. He carefully cut a medium sized slice of the cake and placed it on his plate, satisfied with it. It looked like the perfect slice, and you couldn't get any better than that.
It had the perfect amount of icing, the perfect amount of cake, and the distance between the edges and the strawberry were perfectly even on both sides. The strawberry even lined up with the edge of the cake, almost acting like an even smaller and perfect slice. He smiled at that, enjoying the perfection of such a small thing. This would be unimportant in the future, however keeping this moment in his head would be a wonderful thing. Something to think about when he's stuck inside, or simply bored.
Izuru slightly leaned to the side, making sure his cat was still asleep. She was, thank goodness. He sighed a sigh of relief as he picked up the fork and began to eat his perfect slice of cake. It even tasted perfect. He almost wanted to applaud himself for baking and decorating the perfect strawberry cake he'd ever had. He figured that could wait for another time. He smiled all while eating the cake, enjoying how truly delicious it was. He thought about sending a friend a slice, however he figured there'd be no way they would enjoy it in the same way he enjoyed it. So ultimately, he decided against it.
It took him a bit to decide when to stop eating, about after the third slice he figured it'd be best if he saved the rest for some other day. As well as save room in his stomach for dinner, even if his dinners were never large ones. He cleared his throat and took a sip of his tea, soon after placing it back down and moving to put his dirty utensils on his place. Izuru reached for the lid of the tray and carefully reattached it to the cake tray. That would be the first thing he'd bring back inside. The process began all over again, all while making sure his dear cat remained asleep.
Once he finished bringing everything inside, putting everything away, he headed back outside. Instead of sitting at the table, he decided to lay down on the grass. His long black hair spread all across it as he stared at the sky. He was satisfied, he was happy. Izuru smiled one last time as he watched a beautiful yellow butterfly land on his nose, simply resting there. He didn't mind at all, not in the slightest. It was lovely, if anything. He noticed his cat stretch and get up, only to walk over and lay on his stomach instead of the chair. Normally, he'd move her off of him, however this time was different. This time, he didn't mind the extra weight on him. If anything, it was comforting. Much better than simply laying there without anything else.
Izuru took a deep breath, and then exhaled as he slowly shut his eyes. He allowed the calmness of this lovely afternoon to sweetly lull him into a nap. It couldn't hurt, the worst that would happen is he wakes up right at dinner time. His cat surely wouldn't allow that though, as she got rather cranky when not fed at the exact time she usually ate. He relaxed all his muscles as he slowly drifted into a soft slumber. It was only a matter of time until he awoke once more. Of course though, that wasn't on his mind upon falling asleep. The peaceful afternoon was all he thought about, especially in his sweet and silent dreams.
