Chapter Text
Modern Secondary Society
Alphas: 5% of the population
Betas: 93% of the population
Omegas: 2% of the population
Roles in Society
Alphas work in physically demanding fields. Construction working, plumbing, law enforcement, etc. Betas work in the service industry because they are the best at scenting. Omegas work as doctors, lawyers, scientists– jobs that require an intelligent mind.
Fated Mates
A Fated Omega is an Alpha’s true mate. When an Alpha comes of presenting age, one of the first signs that they’re an Alpha is the appearance of a word or phrase on one of their wrist scent glands. The words are said to be the words from their Fated Omega when they first meet. Due to the small population of omegas, not every Alpha has a Fated Omega. Only the Alpha will have the imprint of the Fated Omega’s words. If the Alpha has a Fated Omega, upon presentation his rut will be triggered; they become obsessed with protection and leaving claiming marks wherever their teeth can get into. If the Alpha does not “successfully” protect his Fated Omega or fails to leave a claiming bite within the first few days of the rut onset, the Alpha will enter a cycle of rutting every so often until the Fated Omega is claimed and protected to the Alpha’s satisfaction.
However, the Fated Omega has the ability to reject their Alpha for whatever reason (abuse, age, illness, their heart belongs to another, etc.). If this happens, the words on the Alpha’s wrist will be erased from their skin. The Fated Omega is able to remove the claim a number of ways, if the pair completed the bond, but the easiest is to remove the scent gland that contains the mating bite. Though it takes years, the scent gland will grow back, albeit smaller and weaker. This forcible rejection causes scarring over the Alphas scent gland from the albeit weaker Omega venom injected when the mating bites were exchanged, making it easy to identify when an Alpha has been rejected.
There aren’t many Alphas that have been rejected, so it is not known if the scarring goes away over time, or if it’s possible for the Alpha to find a Fated Omega.
