Chapter 1: Prologue.

Chapter Text

Wednesday snapped open her eyes, looking up at the sky. The sky was completely clear, she could see every star, every galaxy. She could see so clearly into space, it felt like a dream. Gradually, she gained control of her body, she gained feeling of her body.

She was lying on a cold floor, no, it was snow. She was in a dark snowy floor. No. It was a dark spruce forest? Where was she? She recognized the trees, but didn’t at the same time.

The trees were so tall, and the feeling in the air was off. It quite literally felt like she was in some mystical dimension, finally, she sat up. But she wasn’t cold. Even in her surroundings, nothing felt cold to her. Wednesday stood now, looking around.

Her head swiveled at the sound of howling, there was a wolf howling, wolves snarling and barking. It sounded like a pack of them, she stepped back, glaring at the direction of where she heard them from.

You’re back? Wednesday, is that really you?” A voice that closely mimicked her own sounded from behind her, quickly, she snapped around throwing her fists up and taking a pace back.

Wednesday was faced with a tall, sleek-furred wolf. Its fur was the color of a fierce flame, and its chest had a marking on it. It looked very similar to the sun as if it had the sun itself on its chest. The eyes of the wolf were glowing yellow?

My, how you’ve grown!” They cheer, but its mouth never moved. The only thing Wednesday could use to tell they were cheering was the way their eyes scrunched in delight.

Wednesday didn’t say anything to the thing, only stared behind her fists.

Its face twisted to a look of dismay—betrayal even.

“I’m not going to hurt you.” It spoke again. It stepped closer, and Wednesday stepped back.

“Skittish, aren't you?” It joked, but Wednesday didn’t laugh. Slowly, she let her fists drop, but her stance was still wide, still very alert. “Who are you?” She asked, narrowing her eyes.

“I am.. not important.” It shrugged, stepping past her elegantly, its walk turning into a trot.

“It’s important to me.” Wednesday grunted, her narrowed gaze shifting into a glare. “Who are you?” She asked again, harsher.

“You’ll learn eventually, for now, follow me.” It beckoned with a thrust of its head forward, continuing to go in the direction of the wolves Wednesday heard. Wednesday took a moment to follow, stepping hesitantly onward. She looked down at the snow, noticing the tracks her feet left.

“Why am I leaving wolf tracks?” Wednesday inquired, putting her foot into the snow, then looking at the track and confirming it did look like a wolves pawtrack. But she was barefoot, she didn’t have any special shoes whatsoever.

“You will see, now just follow me.” The Wolf spoke without turning around, its trot now breaking into a run. Wednesday struggled to keep up for a second.

“Get on all fours. Your faster that way.” It told her, not breaking the run. Wednesday abruptly stopped, her face twisted in disbelief. “I am not getting on my hands and knees, thats absurd. I don’t do that.” Wednesday spat, clenching her hands into a fist again.

“You did when you were a baby. You never crawled on hands and knees, it was all fours. You followed me, and us, without second thought. I’m guessing you don’t remember us? Remember this place?” It stopped and turned around, walking softly up to her. And sitting just in-front of her.

“I don’t. And who is us?” Wednesday looked down at the mysterious wolf. “Sit down, child. And I will tell you who and what I am.” The Wolf instructed, lying down on its side.

Wednesday sat on her knees, tilting her head and looking at the wolf.

“Long ago, the first Addams was born on the longest night of the winter solstice, under the first Solar Eclipse. Over a million years ago. The first Addams wasn’t really born, they Their spirit was split into two. A human spirit, and a Wolf spirit. That is a werewolf. The first Addams was a werewolf. And so, the Addams have had a long list of Werewolf genes.” It explained, its yellow eyes gazing at Wednesday steadily.

“Solar. Solar was their name. And they had a mate, Lunar. Lunar was born on the first Lunar eclipse. Thus, named Lunar.” The Wolf blinked, looking up at the stars. “I am Solar. The first Addams ever. And my mate, Lunar, he is somewhere around her. We’ll most likely find him if we hurry.” Solar finished, looking back at Wednesday and standing up.

“You are Solar Addams?” Wednesday asked, rising up to her feet. She was very intrigued now. “Daughter of the sun?”

“Yes, and my mate. Son of the moon.” Solar smiled, turning away and starting to walk. Wednesday was quick to follow. “We were waiting for you, Wednesday.” Solar spoke as she walked.

“Waiting for me?”

“Well, we were waiting for Enid to finally do it.” Solar answered. “To do what?” Wednesday inquired.

“The whole pack was in shambles, we thought we would lost you. But Enid saved the day; she bit you, Wednesday. I was there, we all were there. When you passed out, you were here, in your own den. But you were too weak to open your eyes, you were on the brink of life and death. You were going to die had Enid not done what she did.” Solar explained, stepping into the dense forest.

“Enid bit me? She made me into a werewolf?” Wednesday asked in a small voice, she felt little, as if she were much younger than she actually was. “You are tethered to this pack, Wednesday. Lunar and I had a pup. A singular pup.” Solar went on, and as they walked, Wednesday could hear the wolves clearer now. They were almost saying words.

“Eclipse.” Wednesday mumbled to herself. “Yes, Eclipse Addams. Do you know how she died?” Solar asked, bounding up a hill. Wednesday followed, but struggled and stumbled back down the hill.

“You must get on all fours to reach us. Our dens are only accessible to an Addams. The dens are located in a separate realm. This is where all Addams whom are lucky enough to be born a werewolf end up when they die.” Solar stood at the top of the hill, looking down on Wednesday at the bottom.

“Am I dead?” Wednesday asked with a frown, leaning down and touching the cold surface with her hands. Quickly, her palms got used to the soft snow, propelling herself up, she reached Solar fairly quickly.

“No, you are still alive. But barely, you must meet the pack in order to return to your physical body.” Solar bounded down the hill, landing skillfully on her paws.

Wednesday hesitated, but eventually tried to run down the hill, but her hands and feet slipped from under her. Causing her to go tumbling down and land very un-ceremoniously on her side, her chest heaving.

Solar looked at her with mild amusement, “Your soul was never as graceful as you made it seem, Eclipse.” She smiled, turning around and walking deeper into the forest.

“My name is Wednesday.” Wednesday responded, shaking the snow from her body. “Your physical body’s name is Wednesday, but your soul, your soul is not your physical body’s.” Solar said without turning back to face Wednesday.

“Eclipse died to the hands of a human, shot down by a gun. Just for being free.” Solar’s voice was distant, her voice suddenly held years of grief behind it.

“She was stuck in a limbo dimension, she was never able to return home. Her soul wandered the dimension for years, alone in a vast, dark, and empty world. But she found you. When you were a baby, you came very close to death. You were a stillborn child, but Eclipse saved you. Thats how we were able to meet you. I heard a baby crying, and ran towards it, thats when I saw you. Alone in the clearing you just woke up in, but no matter how fast I tried to run, I couldn’t reach you in time. Thats when I saw Eclipse, she walked up behind you, looked at me, and stepped over you. She snarled at me.” Solar’s head hung low, and she suddenly looked incredibly old and weak. Her voice broke, as if this was hard to say.

“I knew she didn’t recognize me, and she thought I was another wolf. When I tried to step closer, she nearly attacked me, she bared her teeth and snarled even louder than before. I stepped back away, and she turned to you… and when her nose touched your forehead.. she disappeared.” Solar finished, beginning to walk again.

“Solar..” Wednesday tried to speak, she almost felt guilty to be alive. “It was something that you couldn’t control, I would never hold it against you. You were an infant, a newborn if I must. And Eclipse did what she had to and protected you. From then on, I treated you like my own. I taught you how to crawl, how to walk. But our connection got severed when you turned your back on emotions. You turned your back on expressing your soul, and you turned your back on me.” Solar stopped, and looked Wednesday in the eye.

“But come on, we need to reach the dens.” Solar broke back into a run, bounding well past Wednesday. Wednesday struggled to keep up, sprinting as fast as she could.

“All fours. Wednesday.” Solar reminded. Wednesday was hesitant, but obliged. Immediately, she felt more balanced, she felt natural on all fours. Wednesday quickly caught up to Solar, running side by side with the wolf.

“Its great to have you back, Wednesday.” Solar smiled, stopping shortly to look down at the wolves that seemed to be interacting. Pups were playing, adult wolves were conversing with each other.

Raising her muzzle to the stars, Solar howled. Something that almost flickered a hint of recognition in Wednesday, that howl comforted her. All of the wolves looked up at the two, the pups stopped playing, the adult wolves stopped talking.

Wednesday could feel the hundreds of eyes on her, standing to her feet, she stepped down the incline. Another wolf emerged from a den, their coat a void of black fur, a wolf with vibrant blue eyes that glowed with a warmth that Wednesday felt in her soul. She looked at his markings, a moon on his chest.

“Lunar?” Wednesday spoke, holding the wolf’s gaze. It stepped around the other wolves, stepping up to Wednesday. He was tall, taller than Solar. He looked up at Wednesday, and sniffed her from afar.

“Wednesday?” Lunar asked, his eyes glowing even brighter. A welcoming glint of pure joy glowed in his pupils. But when he tried to nuzzle her, Wednesday stepped back. Looking at him with narrowed eyes. Lunar looked hurt when she pulled away.

“She doesn’t recognize you.” Solar interjected with a glance at Wednesday, “She will remember. I will make sure of it.” Lunar sighed, but spoke with such determination that it nearly glowed in his fur.

“I have to get back to my body. I got to the dens, what do I do to get back to my body?” Wednesday turned to Solar, her tone fierce and demanding. Solar nodded, understanding her desperation.

“Come with me.” Lunar turned away, leading Wednesday further into the dens. Solar followed closely behind.

Wednesday looked around at the wolves, who looked right back at her. “In here, Eclipse’s den is here.” Lunar thrusted his snout into the divot in the ground.

There was soft moss on the floor, and the den was warm, it comforted Wednesday immediately when she stepped inside. Sitting down, Wednesday looked up at Lunar and Solar expectantly. “What do I do now?”

“Close your eyes, Wednesday. Let your soul drift back to your body.” Lunar instructed, and Wednesday did as so. Closing her eyes and focusing on returning back to her body.

“Envision your walking through a door, and you see your body. Go up to it.” Solar spoke next, and Wednesday imagined it. She reached for the doorknob, and opened the door. The room was black, but she could see her body laying on the floor.

She stepped towards her, crouching down beside herself. As soon as her fingers touched her forehead, her eyes snapped back open. Wednesday could hear the beep of the heart monitor in her ear, she looked around. Seeing Enid asleep on the small couch in the corner of the hospital room.

She was back in her body. But now she was a werewolf. That was something she would need to deal with.
