It was right after Supergirl’s identity was announced to the world and Cat and Kara were on a business trip. They had booked a hotel room that they would stay in for the night. Cat walked in after meeting with people all day, a little tipsy.
She saw Kara sprawled out on her bed.
Adorable, she thought.
She hopped up on the bed for a minute, wrapped her arms around Kara, and rested her head on Kara’s stomach. Her eyes fluttered, which Cat mistook for dreaming.
She scooted herself up.
“Goodnight Kara. I love you,” she whispered and in a rush of impulse, gave her an excited kiss on the cheek. She leapt onto her own bed, rolled to the side, and kicked her feet in her giddiness, making her nightgown flip up.
“Catherine Jane Grant!” Kara blurted out, and Cat froze.
“Um I—haven’t been called by full name like that since I was a child,” said Cat. Then remembered what she did. “Oh my god.” A uncomfortable moment of silence passed. “I’m so sorry,” mumbled Cat.
“I’m sorry, I didn’t mean to yell your name like that, that was just my initial reaction, and you know something? You know what?” rambled Kara.
“What?” she asked quietly.
“I love you too,” said Kara and climbed into bed with her. She wrapped her arms around her. “Is this okay?”
Cat nodded, and Kara gave her a light, gentle kiss on the lips.
“Goodnight Cat, I love you,” she whispered.
