Chapter Text
At first Ezran didn’t fully realize that he had a crush on her. He was grateful when Aanya had offered aid and support to help rebuild Katolis. She would travel as often as she could to help oversee the construction, but mostly she came to talk to him. They spoke to each other about so many different things, from the average affairs and their duties to arguing (well more like very passionately debating) about what was the best jelly tart flavor. He had just thought of her as a really good friend until last week, when she had joined him for a light lunch. They were sitting out in the courtyard, Ezran laughing at the joke she had said. Wait, he couldn't remember the joke now. All that he could remember was staring into her amber eyes, thinking about how beautiful they looked.
“Ez you alright?” She had asked, setting down her cup of tea.
He hadn’t even realized his mind blanked until her voice snapped him back to reality.
“Uh yeah, I’m fine. Just thinking about this uh.. something that I will have to discuss with my brother about later that I just remembered,” he said. Was his face becoming red? It certainly felt like it, like it was on fire. Also that was such a stupid lie. “Something to discuss with my brother later?”
“Ok then, I was just asking because you had some look in your eyes,” she said. They had continued their lunch and conversation afterwards, even if he felt like a jerk. After that day he started to question himself. Why was he just feeling this way now? He had known Aanya for a good two years at this point, why did he feel different about her now? He was 14 years old for crying out loud. He should be focused on running Katolis, not some stupid… he didn’t even want to think about it. Because as soon as he brings that thought into his mind, the sooner it becomes reality. And weirdly, he didn’t even want to bring it up with his brother, even though Callum had gone through the same situation beforehand with his feelings towards Rayla. But then at one point it just hit him. I really do have a crush on her.
She was to arrive in Katolis again later that day, and Ezran was nervous. Well he wasn’t nervous per say at her impending arrival but the thought of trying to keep his cool around her wasn’t helping. Callum started to notice, of course he did.
“Hey everything alright Ez?” Callum asked. He had basically cornered Ezran in his bedroom, and Ezran would much rather be going out front waiting to greet Aanya when she arrived.
“Yeah yeah, everything’s fine,” he said, Callum raising an eyebrow. Crap he was suspicious.
“You say you’re fine and yet you’re more ansty than when you’re communicating with ants themselves. Does… does it have something to do with Aanya coming to Katolis?” He asked, Ezran’s eyes widening as he tried to turn his face away so his brother didn’t have to see him blush. “Oh my goodness it is something Aanya related! Do you… does my brother have a crush on the Queen of Duren?” Callum said, his eyes going wide with curiosity.
“Stop that! It’s not like that… I mean.. maybe, I don’t know,” he sighed, making his way to sit on the bed. “Ok yeah I may have a crush on her, but I don’t know.. it would just feel so awkward bringing it up to her,”
“How so?” Callum asked, stepping closer.
“Well for starters we’re both rulers of separate kingdoms, so who knows how that would work out. And even if she was into me I would have no idea if she actually was,”
“Hey it took a while for me to realize Rayla was attracted to me and look where we’re at now,” Callum said, placing an arm around his brother’s shoulder. “You guys will be fine,” he said.
“I hope so,” Ezran said, looking out towards the sky ahead.
