Work Text:

Boxten had never had the easiest time falling asleep, but his added nightmares certainly didn't help whatsoever. Seriously, finally being able to fall asleep after 30 minutes of rolling around just to be woke up by those stupid dreams was terrible. Astro reaaally needs to get rid of these nightmares already.

What made it worse was when Boxten was in need of comfort to distract himself from the nightmare after waking up, he didn't have anyone.

Well, he had one person, but he felt so guilty going over to their door for the 7th time for something like this.

Still, it's not like he had any other options.

With a sigh, Boxten sat up in bed and moved his blanket off of him, stepping onto the floor. He rubbed his eyes, choosing to ignore how messy his bed was (his blanket was.. everywhere, but he truthfully didn't care) and walked out of his room, taking his steps carefully in order to not wake any toons up to the toon's room that was on the other side of the hall, or whatever it was called.

The music box hesitated as he lifted up his hand, preparing to knock. It would be fine, they wouldn't care, right? Right. He's done this so many times by now, it'll be just fine.

With that, Boxten knocked on the door, not saying anything. It was soft but not too spft- harsh enough to get someone's attention, but not hard enough to wake someone up, if they were a heavy sleeper, that is.

He could hear shuffling from inside the room as the toon called out, " Who's there? "

" It's Boxten, can I uhm, can I come in? Please? " Boxten wiped at his eyes yet again, voice sounding like someone who had just woke up, which to be fair, was true.

There was a bit more shuffling from inside the room before the door opened, Glisten stepping away so Boxten could enter. The box mumbled a small thanks, standing awkwardly now that he was inside the room and unsure on what to do.

He took a look back at Glisten, who to his surprise had no makeup on- obviously he didn't, it was like... 1 AM. He also didn't have his ribbon tied around his body, it tied around the back of his chair. It was clear to the box that Glisten had made no attempt to sleep yet that night, due to the lamp that was still shining on his desk.

" Sorry for coming in here so late, again.. I just, uhhhm, you know. " Boxten smiled tiredly, rubbing at the back of his head (box?). Glisten dismissed the apology, shaking his head. " Nono, it's alright Boxy, I promise. "

The two stood in silence for a few seconds before Boxten looked towards Glisten's vanity desk. It was a bit.. messy, and the mirror man mumbled a small aapology about it that Boxten couldn't quite make out. He asked, after looking for a few seconds, turning back to Glisten.

" Why are you still up so late? You're usually uh, asleep.. right now. " Boxten kept tripping over his own words and it agitated him slightly.

" Oh, I was just writing. Like a er.. like a diary of sorts, I suppose?. "

This caught the music box's attention. " Diary? I didn't know you had a diary, Glisten. "

" It's not really a diary, more so just random sheets of paper. " As Glisten spoke, Boxten spotted another piece of paper near the corner of his room, and another on the floor next to his desk. As badly as he was curious to what the mirror was writing, he couldn't go over and just.. read it. It'd be an invasion of privacy, probably. He would hate it if someone looked through his written out thoughts like that.

Turning back to Glisten, he noticed a partly worried expression on his face- or atleast he think he did. Boxten had only seen a glimpse of the mirror as he walked towards his bed, laying down and patting the sheet next to him. Boxten processed for a few seconds before walking over to the bed, sitting nervously.

" Had another nightmare hon? " Glisten spoke up, breaking the silence.

Boxten sheepishly smiled, slowly laying down on top of the blankets just like Glisten had done. He didnt think about the fact that the both of them were laying right next to eachother in bed. "Uhhm, yeah, you could say that.. "

He was.. nervous, yeah. Tonight's dream- or rather the day in general had been pretty sucky, and the dream ontop of it all.. ugh.

" ..Do you want to talk about it? I'll listen. "

Boxten hesitated, although he didn't want to talk about it or even THINK about it at all.

" ...no thanks. "

Glisten let out a small hum, continuing to lay in place. The two didn't say anything for a while.

Boxten was thankful for how.. well, kind Glisten acted whenever he needed the mirror during moments like tonight. He didnt have his usual confident persona, and Boxten appreciated it.

Still, he couldn't help but wonder what was wrote on all of those pieces of paper that were littered around the room. Most of them were wadded up and thrown into a corner like Glisten never wanted to see them again.

Maybe some other time.

Finally, Glisten spoke. " Are you feeling er, better now? "

Boxten nodded, then realizing that the other couldn't see him nod because of the way he was laying. " ..Yeah. Thanks. "

" I'm going to try to get some sleep, I need my beauty sleep after all, ahaha!. "

Glisten laughed after speaking, voice laced with exhaustion. It took Boxten a few seconds to realize that this was the mirror's kind way of asking him to leave. Reluctantly, he sat up.

" I'll uhm, go back to my room now. Thank you again, Glisten. " He sat up, getting off the bed and walking to the door. " Goodnight. "

" Night, Boxy. " The door was opened, then shut.

Boxten had been tempted to ask if he could sleep in the same room, with Glisten. He almost did, he just didn't want Glisten to take it the wrong way

Walking back into his room, he laid on his bed, throwing the blanket over himself.

Hopefully his dreams would be better now that he spoke to someone, even if it was a mostly tense conversation.

Unfortunately, they weren't.
