He’s expecting fighting words or a slap to the face when Ellie marches up to the house after the barn dance. What he gets is Curtis and Viper II with the deleted scenes.
She doesn’t talk as he slips in the DVD. In fact, they’re halfway through the movie before she says anything at all.
“I hate you,” she says as they watch Curtis bash someone’s face in.
“That’s alright,” he says.
“Still love you. Doesn’t make any fucking sense.”
“Doesn’t have to.” Affection catches behind relief in the back of his throat. “We’ll figure it out.”
Ellie whispers, “Okay.”
