Summary:

Sky gets hurt during battle. Warriors takes care of his wounds.

Notes:

Prompt for today: stitches

Yes, I know I'm very creative with the titles of my works. My creativity is a gift, really.

Work Text:

Sky pressed a hand to his side and winced. Sticky, red liquid flowed from between his fingers, spilling onto the ground. He watched as Warriors took care of the last monster with a well-aimed slice through its abdomen. He put the sword on the ground next to Sky, unwilling to sheathe it as long as it was still coated in bokoblin guts.

The captain quickly washed his hands in the water from his water skin. It made Sky a little nauseous to realize he hadn't done that himself before touching the wound. Hopefully it wouldn't get infected.

The skyloftian dutifully lifted his hand and allowed the other to get a look at the damaged skin beneath. Warriors' brow furrowed, lines creasing his forehead.

"I'm gonna stitch it up for you. That's the best I can do until we find the others."

Sky sighed. A red potion or Hyrule's healing magic would have been more than welcome, but they didn't have either at hand at the moment – the Chain had gotten more than a little separated during a portal jump last night, and they had yet to reunite. Luckily, Warriors always had a med kit with him, even if they were out potions.

The captain pulled a bottle of alcohol and a sewing kit out of his bag. He dabbled some alcohol on a cloth.

"This is gonna hurt," he warned.

"I know."

Warriors carefully touched the cloth to Sky's skin and began cleaning the injury. The skyloftian couldn't help the hiss of discomfort which escaped him when the alcohol burned its way into the wound.

Finally, the captain put the cloth away. He sent Sky an apologetic grimace.

"I gotta stitch you up now. That's probably gonna be worse."

"It'll be better than going without stitches," Sky said.

Warriors expertly threaded the needle, slightly cross-eyed. He bent over and hooked it through Sky's skin. Once again, Sky hissed in pain.

"Was that how you did it during your adventure?" Warriors asked while he worked. "You just went without?"

Sky shrugged to the best of his ability while keeping his torso still.

"Professor Owlan tried to teach me how to care for wounds once. I never really got the hang of it. Besides, I had more important things to worry about at the time."

The captain spared him a disapproving glare before turning back to the stitches.

"You guys are unbelievable," he said. "I'm truly amazed you've managed to survive for this long."

"Well, I can't speak for the others, but I almost always had access to potions or fairies. There didn't seem to be much point to-"

"To learning how to treat wounds without magic? No, I can't imagine when you'd need to know how to do that."

Sky looked down at the fine line of stitches across his side which his brother was just finishing up.

"...okay, I admit it, it would have been useful today."

Warriors hummed in agreement and tied off the thread. He found a roll of bandages in his bag.

"Lucky for you, I'm actually a trained medic. Now lift your arms so I can wrap you up."

Sky did as he was asked, and the captain bandaged the wound. Soon, the injury was completely covered in gauze. Sky let his tunic fall down over his exposed skin, grimacing at the new tear through it.

Warriors stood up and offered a hand, which Sky gratefully took. He could feel his skin stretch painfully around the stitches as he got to his feet.

"Let's find the others," Warriors said.

"Yeah, we better get going," Sky agreed. "And ... thanks, Cap."

Warriors smiled. "Anytime. But don't go making a habit out of it."

"Wasn't planning to," Sky said. Together, they set out to find their brothers.

Notes:

Warriors and Sky is a great duo. Responsible older brothers, but with a wild streak that comes out when the younger Links aren't around. This fic is more them being serious, though. I really gotta write a fic about them just goofing around
