Chapter Text
‟Okay. That is a beautiful man.”
‟Where's the lie? And I like girls.”
Buck turns, and the world stops.
The man is indeed beautiful. He’s putting on a shirt and Buck will be missing the sight of that body for a while.
‟Who the hell is that?”
‟It's Eddie Diaz. New recruit. Graduated top of his class just this week. Guys over at Station Six were dying to have him, but I convinced him to join us.”
‟What do we need him for?”
Silence. Buck turns his head only when he feels Bobby’s heavy hand on his shoulder. ‟Buck, calm down.”
Buck blinks. Chim and Hen are swaying closer to him, just looking at him like Buck is the most interesting person in the world. The beautiful man already forgotten.
For a moment, Buck feels like everything is alright with the world again, but then Bobby squeezes his shoulder and Buck realizes he made that happen.
‟Sorry,” Buck murmurs and gets his radiation under control.
After Abby left, Buck couldn’t really feed himself, and his control slips now and then. Bobby talked to him about it, but Buck is stubborn. As long as no one is harmed, Buck has the right to celibacy.
No one else, that is. Buck starts to feel the effects of holding back. Other than playing tight and loose with his control.
Getting to Buck’s goal weight so soon, for example.
‟Come on, I'll introduce you to him,” Bobby says and pushes Buck in front of them, so when they enter the changing area, Buck is the first one in.
First thing Diaz does is sniff. Then his head snaps to the entrance and he sniffs some more, looking at Buck like he’s… Buck doesn’t know what. He doesn’t understand that look.
‟What in Twilight…” Buck hears Chim murmur from behind him, and that seems to shake Diaz out of that weird trance he was in.
‟Hi, Eddie,” Bobby starts.
‟Hey,” Diaz replies, and smiles. First at Buck, and then at everyone else.
‟Hi there,” Hen moves to the front with her hand extended and Buck almost snaps at her.
But he controls himself.
Eddie squeezes her hand, goes to do the same with Bobby and Chim, and then he’s back looking at Buck. He’s closer now, and when he shakes Buck’s hand, he puts it in between both of his own. ‟And you?”
Buck just keeps holding his hand, leaching Eddie’s warmth.
‟That’s Buck,” Bobby says. ‟The one I told you about. Your partner.”
When Eddie smiles at him, the room feels smaller and Buck forgets how to breathe.
‟Damn,” Chim mutters.
‟Indeed,” Buck mutters back.
Oops, he didn’t want to say it out loud.
Eddie beams even more.
‟Is there something your Captain should know about?” Bobby asks, and it’s like a bucket of cold water being dropped on Buck’s head.
‟No,” he says quickly. ‟Nice to meet you,” he adds in Eddie’s direction and flees.
It’s because it has been so long since Abby. She didn’t contact him and Buck misses her and he’s starving and Eddie felt…
Eddie feels so delicious.
Buck sits at the dining table in the loft. He needs to get a grip. He’s with Abby. She just needs to find herself, and then she’ll be back. And Buck won’t be starving anymore.
How long would it take, anyway? She’s bound to come back soon, right?
Buck sighs.
Eddie sits next to him. ‟Hi,” the man welcomes him again. Buck blinks at him. ‟I hear your girlfriend left you.”
Buck blinks again. ‟No,” he protests. ‟She’s just traveling.”
Eddie tilts his head. ‟Without you? Why would she do that?”
That question was something Buck asked himself a few times before. But coming from Eddie’s mouth, it sounds like the man is generally bewildered why would anyone ever want to part with Buck.
Buck shouldn’t be aware enough of Eddie to know him that much, to read his emotions and be this precise with them. They’ve only just met.
‟So you’re not single,” Eddie continues.
It’s not a question, but Buck answers anyway. ‟No, I’m not.”
Eddie hums. ‟That gives me some time to get a divorce, and maybe by then you’ll realize you deserve someone who will be with you and not off somewhere traveling without you. Do you like kids?”
This conversation is one of the weirdest ones Buck has ever had.
‟I… do?” He does love kids. Kids are awesome.
‟Great!” Eddie pulls his phone out and shoves it in front of Buck’s nose. ‟Here’s mine.”
It’s an adorable boy, smiling so wide his eyes are closed.
‟Wanna share him?” Eddie asks and Buck almost drops the phone.
‟What?”
What is happening?!
Eddie beams. ‟Just something to show you what I can offer. You saw me without my shirt already, so we got that covered.”
‟Buck!” Bobby exclaims, sprinting up the stairs. Eddie tenses and… was that a growl? ‟Buck,” Bobby repeats himself. His hands are up, and he’s wary.
‟What is happening?” Buck asks. He’s upset. Eddie coos.
‟He trapped us downstairs!” exclaims Chim. Bobby stops him, so Chim won’t step any closer than Bobby.
Buck looks at Eddie, who seems so proud of himself.
‟Why?” he asks the man, but before Eddie can answer, Hen snorts.
‟His weird werewolf mojo told him you’re his mate.” Hen, as a rule, doesn’t believe in mates. She believes in everything else, but for her mates are made, not destined.
Buck, on the other hand, always found the concept of mates very romantic.
‟Mate?” He asks Eddie, who pouts, but nods.
‟I wanted to be the one to tell you,” Eddie explains. ‟But I wanted to be worthy of you first.”
‟Worthy?” Buck repeats and blinks in surprise. ‟Why?”
Eddie tilts his head again and says, like it’s the most logical thing in the world, ‟You’re my mate. It doesn’t mean you’re automatically mine. You deserve the best.”
Buck loses control of himself. Eddie’s pupils expand. He sniffs the air again.
‟Aw,” Chim coos, ‟It would be sweet if it didn’t get us locked in the changing room.”
Bobby sighs. ‟There’s gonna be paperwork,” he says. ‟But it seems like Eddie is resistant to your radiation. He also absorbs it?”
Eddie hums. ‟Oh, I’m not resistant to it at all,” he sighs, dreamily. ‟But I’m also an alpha. I can control myself.”
Buck really can’t grasp his control back. He feels the skin on his head open up to free his horns and his tail wiggling free from his pants to wrap around Eddie’s wrist.
Being an incubus means Buck feels whenever someone is horny, especially for him. It was uncomfortable when he made his coworkers horny by accident. It’s not uncomfortable to feel how much Eddie wants him.
He doesn’t even register that no one else reacts to his radiation.
Eddie is a snack. A whole meal. And he propositioned Buck—proposed, really, with his kid on top of that—and suddenly Buck can’t see why he should starve himself and wait for Abby, who left him without a second thought, when Eddie is here and he offers…
Everything.
There’s only one thing…
‟How quickly can you get that divorce?”
Eddie beams. Bobby sighs.
