Chapter 1: The boy and the bowling alley

Chapter Text

It was 1953 the early years of the golden decade as they like to call it. The year kicked off with the end of the Korean war, the most famous person of the time was undiscovered, economy boomed and everything just seemed perfect.

October 17th 1953, marked the anniversary of the fifteen year old Nicholas White. A blonde boy whose mint green eyes and toned bodied made every girl eye him up. Nick had never really liked any of the girls who practically drooled over him and his gentleman personality. In fact he'd never been interested in anyone for that matter, he'd dated but it never lasted long. The girls always complained about his coldness he'd buy them flowers and listen but nothing more. Whenever he did date, he found it exhausting and dreaded going back to see them spending extra time playing tennis and anything else.

But besides from that he had a perfect life, one that people only dreamt of. Upper middle class family, sporty, muscular, girls, good looking and nice personality. Loving mother and sister, his father a smoker who loved his family but not job. But still, it wasn't enough. He felt greedy having it all and wanting more, it was a sin in the eyes of god he told himself. Yet there was this hole that would never be filled, until now.

The day that Nick could never and won't ever forget, his 15th birthday. It was a mid autumn evening, with two of his friends Robert and Michael. The bowling alley was dimly lit his friends drank Pepsi and Cola sitting in front of their lane on blue leather couches. Every detail was analysed in his mind over and over again, making sure the memory would be stuck in his mind forever. Nick wore a baby blue striped polo top his jacket hung up. He wore dark blue jeans and a brown leather belt, and Frank Sinatra's I'm Walking Behind You is playing.

And as if his longing for that hole in his heart to be filled had called on fate for help, a boy with dark hair clear oasis blue eyes that drew you in his skin as clear as a midsummers sunset and rise. Fashion that could cost the world and universe and deserve to be on the cover of vogue. Then he waved, he waved at Nick! His world shattered and rebuilt as new bringing a hand to wave back, and every single thing about him was just.. perfection. Well, besides from one thing. He was a boy, a beautiful and a smile that could replace the sun, moon, stars in the sky he could be Nick's everything. And one thing that Nick was always proud of was his hard work to get the things he loved. He would be his no matter what. Even if he was a boy, they could still be friends. Close, close friends, right?

Nick tapped his friends shoulder, eyes glued to the boy who'd now turned his back to him after the short encounter. He needed to get information on this artwork of a man.

"Hey.. you know who that is..?"

Nick pointed a finger to the boy, chatting to his friends.

"Oh, him? Hey Mike, that's Connies kid right? Eric or something?"

Robert grabbed Mikes attention, hinting towards the kid that Nick couldn't take his eyes off in fear he was just an illusion his mind had created. Eric, Eric, he repeated it over in his mind.

"Yeah, Eric, Sadies brother."

The rest of their conversation was blocked out by his mind. Eric, Sadie's brother and Connie's kid. And Nick's.. friend. Yeah, just friend. Eric was going to be Nick's, he knew it.
