Chapter Text
“And here’s Ken Sato running up on home base! Man that was an outstanding home run!! Which puts the Giants at 14 points!!” The crowd is filled with ecstatic cheers. Like a wave of sound flowing out into the middle of the stadium. ‘Ken Sato’ they kept chanting. Ken Sato was dancing at home plate soaking it in. Spinning around with his arms out wide as if he was pulling in the cheers for a hug. And he kept spinning. And spinning. Suddenly he felt nauseous.
Ken Sato awoke from his dream and dashed to his bathroom toilet. Spilling out his guts. He grumbled and lifted his head from out of the toilet.
He thought
“Why me”
He hadn’t been feeling himself lately. More sluggish and of course throwing up in the morning. At first he thought it was just a bad hangover, but it’s been a week of this. He decided it was time to go to the doctors.
———
“Mr.Ken Sato? Dr.Mina will see you now.”
He hates Doctor offices. They are always so cold and heartless. Not even a ghost would want to be here. Ken Sato was very reluctant to even come here, but he couldn’t let this go on any longer.
Mina was his mothers step sister and was like an aunt to Ken as he was growing up. He’s tended to see her more than his dad since his Mom’s disappearance a few years ago.
“So Ken, what seems to be troubling you today?”
Mina said looking at her laptop pulling up his profile for the hospital.
He began to explain his symptoms, nausea, vomit, drowsiness, etc. Mina nodded her head and typed them down in her laptop.
“I thought it was a bad hangover, but it’s been a couple weeks already. I don’t think I can continue the season if this goes on. I need to be on my A Game. Especially since I’m here now.”
Mina nodded her head.
“I can prescribe you with some nausea medicine or we can do a blood test today and see if there’s anything else going on.”
Ken winced a bit. He didn’t like the thought of the needles. He took a deep breathe and chose to do the blood test.
After some pain and time Mina came back into the room that Ken was in. She looked a bit concerned and weary. Juxtaposed from her normal cold and slightly robotic face.
“Uh can you lay on your back and lift up your shirt?”
Ken was confused but complied. Mina brought in an unfamiliar machine. It looked like it had a screen. Then she pulled up a device that looked like a flat microphone.
“Wait a minute, don’t those things look inside of you and detect cancer? Do I have cancer?”
He thought.
Before he could say anything to Dr.Mina she put a cold gel on him that made him yelp a bit. She then put the flat looking microphone on his stomach area. Ken began to sweat nervously. He couldn’t believe he had cancer. Mina not explaining anything of what she was doing was making him spiral more.
“And there it is!”
Ken whipped his head to look at the screen to see what she was referring to.
“WHAT?! THE CANCER?!”
When he turned his head to look at the screen he couldn’t quite make out what he was seeing.
“Nope. You’re pregnant”
Ken froze.
“Wait pregnant?”
Mina nodded her head and sat back down into her chair.
“I’m not sure how it’s really possible, but it is. Speaking as your doctor I advise you to look at these pamphlets and decide what to do.”
“And speaking as my family?”
She paused for a moment trying to collect her thoughts.
“I don’t really know what to say. For gods sake you’re a man! I’ve never seen this happen before. I honestly thought you would get some random fan knocked up before this could even happen!”
“HEY!”
Mina began to pace the room trying to calm herself down still muttering about how shocking this all is.
“I mean yeah, how is this possible?”
Mina took a deep breathe.
Mina: “There is a possibility you could fall under the intersex umbrella. But usually an intersex person can’t have children. A lot of the time both of their reproductive organs don’t fully develop. It’s a god damn miracle this has happened.”
Ken: “What am I supposed to do? How did this even happen?”
Mina: “I’m not an expert on this!”
Ken: “Great, I’d be better off asking Siri”
Mina: “I’m not the one who’s pregnant”
Ken groaned.
“We have to figure something out. I am not built for this! I have a life! A title to win!”
“You can still have that. There’s always the option for an abortion.”
The room got a bit cold. The subject has been very touchy these past few years. The thought that it could actually happen to Ken Sato was astounding. He couldn’t believe the situation he got himself in.
“In order to perform an abortion you would need a consent form from the other person.”
Mina paused before continuing.
“So who is this person?”
Ken gulped. He tried to think back. He tried to think of anyone who he had sex with, especially a man.
“I- I don’t know. I don’t remember having sex with a man. Hell I don’t even remember the last time I had sex! I can’t be the next Virgin Mary right?”
Mina sighed.
“Look Ken, it’s fully up to you if you want to carry this baby to full term or not. Being you, you might not even make it to full term. It’s a medical miracle for you to be pregnant. If you do decide to keep the baby you would have to stop playing baseball immediately. And you probably wouldn’t return until next year. Your body is going to go through so many changes, we may even need to supplement some hormones so your body makes enough. There’s so much more you need to take into consideration when deciding anything.“
Ken Sato sat on the table stunned. His normal headstrong fire was gone. He didn’t know what to do or say. So much new stuff is being shoved at him and he doesn’t know what to do.
The silence broke.
“Do you want me to call your father?”
This question snapped Ken back to reality.
“NO! Do not call my father and do not tell him anything that’s happened here Mina. Please.”
Mina nodded and handed him the pamphlets. She put her hand on his shoulder. She wanted to reassure him and give him some type of comfort. But she wasn’t really good at that.
Ken’s watch made a buzzing sound. It was a notification for some group training. He groaned.
“I can give you a doctors note saying you need the day off if you would like?”
Ken smiled.
“Thanks Mina.”
