Chapter Text
"Come on!- there's gotta be somethin' you can do man! My brother don't deserve to live like this!" Pop cried to the man at the desk. He stamped the paper, anger and a smile on his face as he looked at Pop's devasted look. Pop snatched the paper out of his hand, tears in her eyes before she walked out of the office.
Boxten was sitting in the waiting room, nervously fidgeting with his hands as he heard Pop's cries. He didn't like hearing his sister cry. Pop grabbed Boxten by the wrist, pulling him out the building and walking home. Pop now had to quit school and get a job if she wanted to keep her and her brother alive.
"W-What happened?- are we leaving?-" Boxten asked with confusion, looking at Pop with worry and fear in his eyes. Pop looked away for a moment before sighing, glancing back at Boxten. Should she tell him or keep lying until they were legally allowed to move? She didn't want to lie to him, but she didn't wanna worry him either.
"..No. They denied us the damn papers to move. We gotta stay here." Pop said with a sigh, sitting at a bus stop and looking over at Boxten. Pop could see the sadness in Boxtens eyes, seeing how upset he was for being denied the 7th time despite meeting every requirement in the book.
"I'm sorry Box.. you know I'm tryin' my best.." Pop mumbled, leaning on Boxten and hugging him. Boxten only nodded in response, just looking at the ground beneath the two. He didn't understand why they were forced to stay here; they just wanted to leave and go as far as possible.
"Pop?.."
"Yeah Box?"
"Do you think it's because what our parents did back then?- they wont let us leave now for unresolved crimes." Boxten suggested with a shrug, looking over at Pop. Pop thought about everything their parents did, everything now adding up.
"No. I'm sure there's something else." Pop reassured Boxten, putting a hand on his back before watching the bus pull up. Pop grabbed Boxtens hand, leading him into the bus and putting some money in the capsule before sitting down with him. Boxten only looked out the window, just thinking..
A few minutes later they made it to their new place, looking at it before Pop spoke up. "BRO DID THEY DOWNGRADE US?!" Pop screamed as she looked at the house, walking over to it before looking at the address and looking at the address on the paper.
This was the place.
Pop stared at the paper with a pissed look, her eyes darkening before she threw open the door, looking around before realizing it was one bedroom. "These motherfuckers bro.." Pop said softly, looking at the bedroom before sighing softly.
"Boxten you're getting the bedroom."
"Pop are you sure?-"
"Is' fine. I'll sleep on da couch." Pop said softly, looking around before walking to the living room and sitting on the couch. Atleast it was pretty on the inside.. Unlike the outside, the interior actually looked inviting.
"Get ready fo' bed. You got school tomorrow." Pop ordered Boxten, looking back at him and watching him. Boxten looked around before glancing at Pop and walking to the bedroom with a bit of heavy shoulders. This was.. bad to say the least.
Boxten walked into the small bedroom, walking around before glancing out the window. Two little eyes staring at him from a distance. Boxten shivered before closing the curtains, glancing back before placing his backpack down and laying on the bed.
Surely, it'll get better tomorrow.
The next morning was fairly peaceful, Boxten being woken up by the sound of Pops voice as usual. Boxten got up from the bed and walked to the bathroom, washing his face before starting to brush his teeth, being sure to look his best. It was his first day at a new school and he didn't wanna make a fool of himself.
Boxten walked out the kitchen with a sigh, looking for Pop and hoping to see her. She was in the kitchen getting ready for work. Atleast she's being productive. Boxten stumbled over to Pop, hugging her and saying his goodmornings before starting on his journey to his school. He didn't recognize this street, unsure of why everything looked so.. off.
'Psst!'
Boxten lowered his head, not recognizing the voice and not wanting to get involved..
'Kid i know you hear me!
Boxten sighed softly before stopping, looking over at the dark alleyway. Anxiety creeped up inside him as he stared at the figure. The figure walked up to him, his red eyes menacing an angry before he looked at Boxten. It was just a zooted fluffy craft.
Boxten raised an eyebrow, backing away from the fluffy craft before looking around with confusion. "What do you want?!- I have to go-" Boxten whisper-yelled, looking at the zooted man before backing away even more, slightly slipping on the road and keeping himself perched on a car.
"Calm yo ass down man.. I ain't gon' swing at you." The fluffy craft reassured Boxten, grabbing him by the shoulders and bringing him face to face. "Coconuts have water in them."
"..okay.."
"I'm Hugger by the way whats yo name?"
"Boxten-"
"Shi thats cool as hell. I'll see you late' man." Hugger said with a crooked smile, patting Boxtens shoulder before walking away. Boxten watched him leave, feebly sighing before continuing to walk. He did NOT understand what just happened, but he didn't have time to question.
Boxten walked onto the school grounds, noticing a small group of toons. They all had bandanas on, showing they were in that group and different from other toons. Boxten watched them for a moment before one of their eyes looked at Boxten. Boxten quickly looked away, speedwalking inside.
The three toons talked before agreeing to follow Boxten, just to be sure he wasn't no threat to them. Boxten felt the eyes on him, his anxiety spiking as he walked to his class. Did he just get involved with a bunch of bullies?!- what if they go after him next?? Boxten started to panic, sitting at his desk and covering his face.
Boxten heard shuffling next to him on both sides, looking around before noticing the two toons from outside looking at him.
Boxten looked at the two before smiling weakly, waving at them.
"Yo, i'm Boost, thas my girl Shanks." One of the toons said with a small smile, grabbing Boxtens hand and shaking it before pointing at Shanks. Boxten looked over at Shanks, seeing the dead look on her face. Boxten laughed softly, looking away with a sigh.
"Thats nice!- i'm Boxten!-" Boxten smiled at Boost, thinking he was a nice guy. He didn't seem TOO bad for being in these parts. Maybe he's just a happy guy at heart? Boxten had alot of questions about this guy, but he didn't wanna seem like a weirdo by asking so many questions.
"Good to know!" Boost laughed softly before leaning in his chair and looking up at the ceiling. Boxten looked at Shanks, noticing her threatening glare. Boxten looked at her nervously before sighing, watching as time passed by.
A few hours passed and it was finally time to go home. Boxten sighed, getting up and walking away. Boost and Shanks followed behind him before splitting up, going their separate ways. Boxten was relieved that they didn't think bad of him or try to harm him.
Another day for Boxten. He just hoped the next would be as okay as it was today.
