Chapter Text
Run. Run run run!
Danny could only listen to the voice of his sister on repeat as he fled through the town, chased down by his parents.
Danny if they ever catch you, you need to promise me that you will run. You hear me? Run. Don’t try and convince them otherwise, just run. I’ll contact you when it’s safe.
Danny had brushed it off two years ago, but over the past few months it’d seemed more and more likely.
Sam and Tucker had escape plans they were putting into effect after he got out, and Jazz had already left, but his core whined at the thought of leaving them behind, leaving his home and his loved ones.
As Danny reached his house and charged into it, he shrugged off the blasts that hit him from the home security. It burned, but not as bad as he would if he got caught.
There, the familiar green of the portal, left wide open for anyone to access. Danny hit the delayed destruction button on it, they’d installed it secretly after his parents became more fevered about destroying Phantom, and plunged into the green. He soared as far away from the portal as he dared, before turning around.
It was like someone had created a whirlpool. The fabric of reality and the zone warped and tore as the portal collapsed inward on itself.
The hole shut without a sound, leaving Danny to float in the zone, feeling as empty as the space where the portal once was.
Danny turned away, there was no going back now. Not for a long time. He could still text across dimensions thanks to his phone, but he wouldn’t be able to see anyone for a long time.
The glow of another portal caught his eye, this one wasn’t man made, but wasn’t natural. It was created by someone on this side of the veil.
Well, he needs to go somewhere to keep safe. A transformation later and Danny was dragged into the portal and spat out the other end.
Maybe I shouldn’t have transformed. He thought hysterically as he plummeted through open air, falling and falling and-
Crack!
Danny’s head struck something hard, and he bounced off and tumbled down spinning around and-
Thump!
Danny could hear someone talking just beyond his reach, and tried desperately to pry open his eyes.
And those, those were some really colorful blobs. Oh wait- those are people.
Shit those are people!
Danny shot up, ignoring the horrible pain that came with sitting up, and slid backwards by the garbage can.
The person nearest to him, someone in a black body suit and Blue bird on their chest, with the blue strips running along their arms was talking to him. Putting their hands up and kneeling down in front of him.
“n’t worry, you’re safe pup. It’s just me and Hood. We’ll help you okay?”
Pup? He’s not a dog!
Danny snarled at them, and the person moved closer, even as Danny pressed himself against the wall and trash can.
“What’s your name puppy?”
“I’m not a puppy!” Snapped Danny, drawing a growl from his core- well that wasn’t going to beat the dog allegations.
And- oh god the smell of the trash was horrible. It’s like someone left food out to rot for weeks then mixed it with manure and made an essential oil out of it.
The blue bird guy’s nose wrinkled, as he smelled the air. He was probably smelling the trash now too.
“Come on p-buddy, that trash can’t make you be feeling too good. Why don’t you move away, and we can check your head okay?” Danny didn’t even realize he was agreeing until he’d slid away from the trashcan and the man was reaching out. He snapped out and tried to bite the man’s hand, and tried to push past him when he yelped.
“Hey kid! Not gonna hurt ya,” Danny hadn’t seen the other guy, or well he did, he just didn’t pay attention to the man in the red helmet. He also had a bird, a red one- actually it may be a bat…
“What’s your name? Haven’t seen you round here much,” he asked, taking off his gloves? Why was he taking off his gloves? Was he gonna try and fight Danny? No, that wouldn’t make sense- oh he just had an itch on his wrists.
Danny felt a hand lay on his shoulder, and he whipped around and punched him- unfortunately with human strength he only got as far as hurting himself.
And was the trash smell getting worse or was that just his imagination? The alleyway he’d landed in now smelled like a couple of bodies had been added to the mix, and it was stressing Danny out.
What was that smell? It wasn’t… bad. It smelled like rain on a summer evening and- and like warm drinks and blankets in the winter. It made Danny feel safe, like he could relax and be protected.
Danny turned to follow where the scent was coming from, and it was the guy in the helmet. Was it some kind of drug? Air based or something? No- cause then the guy behind him would be effected- unless he’d been exposed to it enough.
Danny fumbled at his shirt and tried to pull it over his mouth and nose.
“No dr’gs,” he slurred, his muscles didn’t want to move right. And he caught himself leaning towards the man, and jerked back.
He just laughed softly, and held out his hand.
“Not drugs pup, I promise. It’s just store bought Omega scent.”
“Ome’a?” Danny was confused, he just wanted to curl up and be safe, stop the hurting. And this smell was promising all that and more.
“Yep, just Omega. Can you come here pup? We’ll check you out and bring you somewhere safe okay? Promise.”
It was like that was all that his body needed, even if his mind mumbled that they needed more proof they wouldn’t get hurt. Danny staggered towards the man, and let out a small whine.
“Shh, it’s okay pup. They won’t hurt you anymore,” He whispered, coming forward and wrapping Danny in his arms, and letting Danny press his face into the smell on his wrists.
The two were conversing above him, but all Danny cared about was the comfort and warmth that this smell brought him. It was like water on a hot summer day, fresh blankets, a field of flowers in spring- everything comforting and nothing overwhelming.
Danny was putty as he was lifted up and carried away, letting himself relax into this scent and fall into peaceful slumber.
