Work Text:
Lisa had been anxiously checking her watch all day. Even though she’d been annoyed with Carla earlier in the day, she was very much looking forward to their date night. Her annoyance had been mostly with the Betsy and Mason situation, but her girlfriend hadn’t helped matters much by embarrassing the teen in the factory. Betsy was already unmanageable, calling attention to her mom’s relationship with the teen’s boss wouldn’t make things any better.
She looked at her watch once more. Finally, she thought. It was time to clock out and go home to get ready for her date. Though they’d had plenty of sexy time and a few nights in over the last couple of weeks, they hadn’t been on a proper date yet. So technically, it was a first date, and the blonde was feeling every bit of those first-date jitters as she got ready for the evening. By the time she’d settled on an outfit for the evening, half of her closet lay on her floor. She wanted to find something that Carla hadn’t seen yet but that wasn’t just work clothes or her usual off-duty look of a jumper and jeans. She’d spotted a teal blazer that she’d worn to a wedding once many years ago that she thought brought out the color of her eyes and decided it would have to do. She was running out of time and options and the last thing she wanted to do was be late to pick her girlfriend up for their first date.
It had been an eternity since she had to worry about how she looked and she was starting to realize she had underestimated how much time it would take to get ready. She quickly moved on to her hair. Oi, she thought. What was she to do with this mess? She shook out her bun, blonde locks falling gently across her shoulders. She glanced at her watch once more. She took the flat iron she’d turned on when she arrived home and hastily ran it through her hair a few times. She shook her head once more and felt moderately satisfied by the result. It’d have to do regardless, it was time to pick up her girlfriend. Her girlfriend. Just the words were enough to bring a smile to Lisa's face. Something that had been hard to come by for a long while now.
As she climbed the stairs to Carla’s flat, she could feel her hands getting sweaty. What, was she 15 again? While part of her enjoyed how young the brunette made her feel, she could do without the teenage nerves and awkwardness. She knocked, tentatively, and gave herself a once-over. The door opened and Lisa was met with a blank expression. Oh god, should I have chosen a different top? Is my hair worse than I thought? A million thoughts raced through her head as the older woman looked her up and down. The heat of her gaze made her palms sweat even more.
But the longer they stood there, the more Lisa noticed Carla’s dilated pupils and raised eyebrows. Maybe the silence was a good thing?
“Wow, Lisa. Sorry, come in, please. You just, you look stunnin’, really,” Carla’s compliments and her inability to stop staring at Lisa gave the blonde a bit of confidence.
“Not so bad yourself, Carla,” said Lisa in a sultry tone as she placed a gentle kiss on her girlfriend’s lips. “Ready to go?” She said while looping their arms together. The brunette smiled widely. It was still unbelievable to Lisa that she got to be with this woman. To take her out on the town and come back to her at night. And with that, they were off on their first proper date.

Dinner had nearly been a disaster, but Carla always seemed to know what to say to give Lisa a different perspective on a situation. It was crazy for Lisa to think just how well the older woman “got” her. Admittedly, she wasn’t all sunshine and rainbows towards Mason just for Besty’s sake—she wanted to get close to him to see if he had any information on Becky’s death. But Carla and Betsy seemed none the wiser to Lisa’s plan and both had been happy to see the younger woman making an effort.
The couples parted ways as they left the bistro, Mason and Betsy headed to Sally and Tim’s for a movie night while Carla and Lisa opted for an evening stroll back to the brunette’s flat. The cool air and brisk pace were a welcome change for Lisa after a tense dinner. They walked arm-in-arm but in relative silence. Carla was beginning to understand that sometimes the younger woman just needed some space to get her head right and was more than happy to give her time to unwind after dinner. It had even been her suggestion that they walk rather than order a ride.
Though the blonde’s mind was working overtime thinking about how she could use Mason to uncover evidence against Matty, she was also feeling grateful to have a girlfriend who knew exactly what she needed. For so long, she’d been content to manage things on her own. It wasn’t ideal, but she had made it work. But now, she didn’t know what she’d do without the older woman interfering in her life on a regular basis.
By the time they arrived at Carla’s, Lisa was feeling much lighter, the events of the day washed away by the exercise and night air.
“After you, darlin’,” said Carla sweetly as she let Lisa into the flat ahead of her. What did I do to get so lucky? thought Lisa as she started to slide her blazer off.
“Wait, Lisa,” said Carla, immediately striking fear in Lisa’s heart. Did she not want her to stay? Was she upset with her for how she’d behaved at dinner? The older woman must’ve sensed that Lisa was becoming worried. “I mean, just wait before you take that off. You look amazing in it and I just want another minute to take you in properly. And perhaps I can help you out of it, too,” Carla said coyly as she put her hands on Lisa’s waist and pulled her closer.
The idea of the brunette sliding the younger woman’s jacket off her shoulders was enough to send a shock of warmth through her body, settling low in her belly.
“Oh, well, maybe if you’re a good girl that could be arranged. Do you think you’ve been good today?” Replied Lisa with a wink, not missing a beat.
“I do, actually. An angel, really,” Carla was practically growling now as she hungrily kissed the Detective Sargent.
The blonde woman pulled her head back slightly. The dull ache in her belly was now a full-blown fire between her legs and she desperately needed the older woman to put it out.
“Well then, Ms. Connor, you have permission to do as you like with me,” Lisa replied, barely above a whisper. A wicked smirk flashed across her girlfriend’s face as Carla began placing deep kisses along the length of the blonde’s neck and down to her collarbone. Lisa thought she might come undone right there in the living room. The brunette pushed the shorter woman up against the back of the couch, grinding into her as they leaned back.
Carla grabbed Lisa by the lapels, “Now, about this jacket…”
