Work Text:
A world of masks that deceive
Where all the pain hides underneath
Where faces hide and the truth is denied
But in reality....
It's just a chamber of lies.
Where children’s cries are masked under ‘laughter’
And parents pretend to be ‘fine’ just right after
“Just right after what?” you might ask.
While the answer you seek is no easy task.
At the end of the day,
Under that small ray
It's just the truth underneath
In Gaza’s streets, where masks are shattered
With cries of anguish, hopes and emotions scattered
And families are torn apart one by one
“And why does Israel do it?” you might ask
While you might regret asking, since it's no easy task
They do it just for fun
Yet, at an age so young, they endure all the pain
They don’t care about loss and gain
It's upsetting to see so many young Palestinians getting
tortured in genocide
People falsify and say "it's probably fake”
But the truth remains in a world of heartache
“Why should they have to endure that?” you might ask
While it's no easy task
you might regret asking for the answer you seek,
But the end of the day
It's the innocent who suffer, their voices so meek
A rose so soft, but thorns sharp underneath
A smile so bright, but darkness lies beneath
And it's all to stay alive, to blend in
It's pretty much just a spin
A spin of lies, betrayal and disguise
“Why should they have to do that?” you might ask
While the answer is no easy task
At the end of the day,
In a world full of lies and cries,
We all must meet our demise.
If I were to close my eyes
And let my dreams take me from my hands
We'd rise and soar in the new skies
And forget the pains that expand
If I were to travel in my imagination
We'd plant, build new palaces and live in justification
Where love and my hopes would grow
And pains would be erased down below
“Why don’t we live in such a Day-Glo? “You might ask
It's possible, but it’s no easy task since,
It's just the world we live in
A world where we see features and people
Is all in a world that used to be as lovely as a tepal
Its arches are misery, injustice, oppression and crimes, oh so illegal
From a difficult reality that messes with everything we build
A world where the walls of tyranny have risen, and
hopes and dreams can no longer be fulfilled
They've crushed us along with our dreams, hopes and arts
And now, darkness and selfishness spread widely in all the hearts
Each person has a side unseen
Unseen from friends, lovers and not even family can glean
They hide who they are and what they want under masks, bluffs and painted smiles
Lies go on for miles and miles
Intentions so evil nothing could reconcile
“Why would they lie to each other like that?” you might ask
Though the answer you seek is no easy task,
In betrayals and white lies as thick as a sheep’s fleece
Its just so the world can maintain its thin veneer of peace
In most families out there, everyone’s playing a part
They tell themselves “This is how wives/husbands are supposed to act” or “this is what parents do”
even though none of it was confirmed as a fact.
None of this is true.
“How hard can it be?” you might ask.
The answer you seek is no easy task
Having to perform all the time can be completely
exhausting that it leaves them weak.
A ray of hope, so bright yet so far
Shines across us, just like a shooting star
A rope that would pull us all from our demise
A helping hand, all we have to do is take a stand
“why don’t you take an opportunity so grand?” you might ask
Though this may seem like an easy task
Though this is a path we would all pursue,
It’s just too good to be true.
But what they don't know, is that it will all come out sooner or later.
It could be for the worse or for the greater,
Lies slowly unravel while wounds heal,
Masks shattered, hopes destroyed
Some wounds continue to bleed
“Why do they?” you might ask.
Alas, while this may not be the answer you seek nor the purpose,
At the end of the day,
Despite it all,
Even after all the downfalls,
Everything is not what it seems
Life destroyed dreams and filled it with lies and schemes
The purpose,
Is just what lies beyond the surface.
