Work Text:
Dean Winchester was almost there. He could feel it building inside him, ready to burst through. That fabled runners high. That euphoric feeling where everything becomes clear, his limbs feel like silk, his mind floating...and it’s right there. He could feel it surging through his body, tingling down to his fingertips and then...
...he was stumbling, desperately trying to keep upright and his feet from tangling in the leash that was wrapping around his calves and almost sending him to the ground.
“Dammit Clyde!” He cursed.
Clyde was a sixteen month old Great Dane one of the neighbors, Mr. Novak, had inherited from his sister when she moved to Detroit and into a small studio apartment for work. Mr. Novak was an architect who worked from home. Dark tousled hair and intense blue eyes, he was well liked in the community, even if he was a bit of a loner. Besides designing bespoke, eco-friendly homes, he also worked with an organization that raised funds for charitable causes across the world. Their scavenger hunts were apparently things of legend.
Dean had offered to run Clyde twice a day when he, quite literally, ran into the man one evening as the dog was pulling him along and he was trying to answer an email on his blackberry. After picking themselves up off the ground, Dean pointed out that as he ran twice a day, part of his pre-college fitness regime - after all it was an athletic scholarship - he would be happy to pick Clyde up and exercise him for the architect. Novak was so happy about the agreement he insisted that he pay Dean for his time and while the teenager at first argued that he wasn’t going out of his way at all, he did relent when he realized it would be an extra $50 a week he could stash into his college savings.
Things were going smoothly. Mr. Novak -‘please call me Castiel’ - had given Dean a key to let himself into the house each morning. It was summer after all and neither man nor dog really wanted to be sweating out in the mid-morning sun, so Dean would use the key and let himself in at 6am to collect Clyde. Some mornings Castiel would be up, already working or just standing in his kitchen sipping coffee like it was the only thing that was sustaining his life, other mornings he would, probably, still be in bed so Dean would slip in quietly, clip on Clydes leash and leave.
It was only when Dean leaned against a nearby post box that he remembered Castiel had asked him to post some letters for him as he would be going past the box on his route, but when Clyde had burst through the front door as Dean stood talking to a pajama clad Cas, tugging his leash from Deans grip, Dean had taken off after the dog, completely forgetting about the mail.
He looked back in the direction they had come.
“Oh well buddy, it’s only ten minutes back, we can just cut off the loop through the park. You’ll just have to bark at the ducks tonight,” he said to the dog as he retraced his steps back to Castiel’s house.
Of course he could have just finished his run and posted the mail after, but sometimes solutions like that don’t present themselves until after you’ve already decided on a different course of action, so Dean and Clyde jogged back to the house and Dean quietly let them back in. Clyde wandered in the direction of his water bowl so Dean dropped the leash to let him slurp noisily from the dish while he looked around for the mail, spotting it on the edge of the counter. Just as he was reaching for it, out of the corner of his eye, he saw Clyde abandon his water bowl and head down the hallway of the modest single story house, towards, what Dean guessed, was Castiel's bedroom.
“Dammit Clyde,” Dean hissed quietly. “Get back here!”
The dog ignored him and headed further down the hall. Dean followed, catching up just as they reached Castiel's partially open door. Dean reached down for the leash and froze when he heard a soft moan. He picked up the leash and slowly stood. From his vantage point he could just see Castiel stretched out on his bed, his hand working on his erect penis and two fingers sliding in and out of his ass.
“Uh... Dean ...” Castiel moaned into the empty room. Dean gasped, his eyes widening. The leash fell from his hand as Clyde pushed the door open and barrelled into the room startling Castiel.
“Oh fuck!” Cas exclaimed, as he looked up and saw Dean standing in his doorway. He quickly pushed the dog away and tried to cover his naked body.
Dean tore his eyes away from the scene and turned to run back down the hallway.
“Dean! Dean, please wait!” Castiel called and surprisingly, to Dean the most, he did.
Castiel rushed from his room, wrapping a sheet around his waist.
“Please Dean. I’m sorry, I didn’t mean for you to see that. I wasn’t expecting you back so soon.” He tried to explain to the boy’s back.
“The...the mail, I...I forgot the mail.” Dean stammered, slowly turning.
Castiel was standing a safe distance away, holding the sheet with one hand, the other held out like he was trying to calm a startled animal, which, truthfully, he kind of was.
“I’m sorry you saw that. I have no excuse,” he apologized.
“You said my name,” Dean said.
“I..yes, I did,” Castiel replied, looking to the floor, ashamed. “That...I know...it was inappropriate.”
Dean took a deep calming breath. Truth is, he had been crushing on Mr. Novak for months. It was part of the reason he and Cassie had broken up, but he had never been with another man before, never even been attracted to one before Castiel. His eyes flicked to the hand holding the sheet, his fingers still shone with the lubricant that had eased the passage inside his ass. Dean’s whole body was shaking as he took one step closer to the older man.
“You had your fingers inside you,” he said.
Castiel’s breath caught slightly.
“Yes, I did.”
“Were you pretending they were me?” Dean asked, feeling a little braver.
“Yes,” Castiel answered, looking Dean in the eye.
“Was I...was I good?”
“Yes.” Castiel’s voice was just a quiet whisper.
Dean closed the distance between them and raised one hand to cup Castiel’s cheek. They were both shaking with nerves and anticipation as Dean leaned down and gently touched their lips. Castiel whimpered and his whole body shivered. The man’s reaction spurred Dean on to deepen the kiss. He pressed harder against Castiel’s mouth then after a moment ran his tongue along the other man’s lips. Castiel opened for him and immediately Dean swept his tongue across Castiels, tasting the remnants of his early morning coffee. Castiel groaned and clutched at Dean's tank top, pressing his groin into Dean. On Dean's side, his own dick was becoming extremely interested in this new turn of events, swelling rapidly in his light running shorts.
Dean broke the kiss and pressed his forehead against Castiel’s, gasping.
“Dean?”
“I’ve...I’ve never done this before,” Dean admitted.
“Kissed?” Castiel asked, confused.
“I’ve kissed,” Dean answered with a small hitch of a laugh. “Just never a guy.”
“Oh!” Castiel exclaimed. “We don’t have to do...I’m sorry, I didn’t mean for you to feel...”
Dean grabbed at Castiel as he tried to step away.
“I want to,” he assured him. “I’ve wanted to for a long time.”
Castiel gave a small relieved smile as Dean pulled him back and kissed him again. This time though he began moving them back towards Castiel’s bedroom, careful not to tangle them in the sheet around the older man’s waist, or trip over the dog that was still circling them.
Inside the room, Dean toed off his running shoes and pulled off his socks and shirt as Castiel pushed the dog into the hall and closed the door. Dean was standing at the end of the bed, staring at the mussed up sheet still remaining over the mattress when Castiel put a hand on his cheek, causing him to jump a little. Dean turned to him and pulled him in for another kiss. It was Castiel who broke the kiss this time.
“Dean, we don’t have to do anything you don’t want to,” the older man assured him.
“Please, please Cas, please touch me,” he asked.
Castiel nodded, smiling, and ran his fingers down Dean’s chest and in between their bodies to cup Dean’s erection through his shorts. Dean groaned at the feeling and screwed his eyes shut, clenching his jaw, his breaths coming erratically.
“Is this okay?” Castiel asked.
Dean nodded frantically as he released a shuddering breath.
“More,” he whispered, his dick twitching under Castiel’s hand.
Dean worked at unwinding the sheet around Castiel as the other man untied Deans shorts and slipped his hand inside, pulling a gasp from the younger man. Dean buried his face in Castiel’s neck and rocked into the warm hand now circling his cock.
“Dean...” Castiel moaned as he ground his erection against Dean's hip.
Dean pulled his head away from Castiel's neck and looked at the older man. His normally blue eyes were blown wide with arousal, his lips parted slightly as he softly panted.
Swallowing his nerves, Dean reached down and uncovered Castiel's cock, hesitantly wrapping his hand around him. The lube had become tacky as it dried, but Cas was leaking a generous quantity of pre-cum so Dean used his thumb to swipe across the tip, gathering up the fluid and smearing it down Castiel's shaft. Castiel sighed and began rocking into Dean's fist.
“Want you, Dean. Want you inside me,” the older man murmured.
Dean froze for a moment, even as his cock expelled another wave of pre-cum.
“I’ve never...I...I don’t know what to do,” he admitted again.
Cas gave him the softest smile and kissed him carefully.
“I’ll guide you,” he promised.
They kissed some more, their mouths moving together, tongues gently massaging each other before Castiel moved away. He opened the drawer in his night stand and retrieved a few items, placing them down beside him before returning to Dean. He kissed the younger man and guided them both down onto the bed, pulling Dean down beside him.
“Hold out your hand,” he instructed. Dean did and Castiel poured a generous amount of lube on his fingers. “I’m already open, but your cock is a lot bigger than two of my fingers, so I’ll need you to loosen me some more.”
Dean gulped and nodded. He was shaking as Castiel used his own fingers to spread the lube over Dean’s. He guided Dean's hand down between his legs.
“Just use one for a minute,” he instructed and pressed Dean's index finger against his hole. Dean circled it once or twice before gently pressing in. “Oh, so good,” Cas murmured and he helped Dean set a slow pace, thrusting in and out.
Dean's breathing was ragged as he watched his finger disappear into the other man. Soon enough Castiel was urging him to add another so he carefully pulled his index finger out then added his middle finger and pushed back in. Castiel was stroking Dean's cock slowly with his free hand, the other pressing down on Dean's hand, pushing him deeper into his ass.
“An...another,” he instructed and then Dean was breaching Castiel with three fingers, sinking them down to his knuckles.
Castiel groaned and squirmed on Dean's hand, never faltering in stroking Deans hard, leaking cock.
“Spread...spread your fingers.” Castiel said. “Open me up.”
Dean did as instructed. Spreading his fingers wide, he dragged them up as he pulled them from Castiel's ass, twisting slightly at his rim then plunging them back into the warm heat of the other man's hole. He hit a small bump inside Castiel with his fingertips causing the older man to buck up and more pre-cum to flow from his neglected cock. Dean watched the shiny fluid roll down Castiel's shaft and suddenly wanted to taste it. He wanted to lick his cock clean and savor the flavor of his longtime crush, but was afraid he’d explode in his shorts before he had a chance to slide into the tight channel he was currently preparing with his fingers.
“I’m ready, Dean. You can...enter me.” Castiel said, drawing Dean’s attention away from his leaking cock. He let go of Dean's hand and reached up beside him before holding a small square packet out to him. “Here, use this.”
Reluctantly, Dean pulled his fingers from Castiel and rolled onto his back. He pushed his shorts and briefs down his legs and kicked them off before opening the packet and rolling the condom on. Suddenly Castiel's hand was there, stroking him and spreading lube over the latex sheath.
“You look so fucking gorgeous like that,” Castiel said, his deep voice murmured in Dean’s ear. “One day I’m going to ride you and cum all over your chest.”
Dean's eyes rolled back and his whole body bucked at just the mental image. He grabbed the base of his cock and squeezed hard, staving off the orgasm that was already beginning to build.
“Please Dean, I need you now!” Castiel demanded as he grabbed Dean's shoulders to pull the young man on top of him.
Dean allowed himself to be manhandled and, very un-reluctantly, settled between Castiel’s legs.
“Do you still want this?” Cas asked, reaching up to frame Dean's face with his hands.
Dean closed his eyes and nodded.
“Yes,” he whispered.
Castiel smiled and pulled Dean down for a kiss. He reached down and guided Dean's cock to his hole, tilting his hips so that just the tip breached him. Dean broke the kiss and gasped as Castiel placed both hands on Dean's ass and pulled him close, sighing as Dean got with the program and slowly entered him, pressing deeper until he was fully seated inside him.
“Oh fuck!” Dean breathed into Castiel's neck. He shifted his hips slightly, taking in the new sensation of being gripped tightly by another man's ass.
When Dean's breathing steadied somewhat, Castiel pressed his hands against his hips to encourage him to move. Slowly, very slowly, Dean pulled out then pressed in again. He continued this slow drag as he nuzzled and nipped at Castiel's neck. Castiel, for his part, wrapped his arms around Dean, one hand entangled in his hair, holding Dean’s mouth to his neck as he lifted his head and exposed his flesh. The other arm wrapped around Dean's torso, keeping him close. His legs were up and wrapped around Dean's hips, lifting his own so that Dean could penetrate him deeper. All in all, the whole experience was everything Castiel had been fantasizing about and so much more.
Dean’s thrusting began to pick up pace. The slow and easy movements become faster, harder and deeper. He pushed up and away from Castiel and readjusted their position so he was now braced on one arm, the other gripping Castiel’s hip tightly as he began to pummel his ass with enthusiasm. Castiel moaned and tightened his muscles around Dean's cock when the new position meant his prostate was being massaged with every other thrust. The older man reached down and began to stroke himself in time with Dean's frantic thrusting.
“Fuck Cas! I'm close...I’m gonna..” Dean stammered.
And just the thought of Dean cumming in his ass, the sensation of the younger man swelling and close to completion sent Castiel spiraling over the edge, cumming harder than he has in years and covering both of their chests and stomachs.
Dean only lasted a few seconds longer. The sound of Castiel's cry as he came pulled Dean's own climax to the front and he spilled into the condom with three brutal thrusts into Castiel's ass. He continued to lazily thrust through the aftershocks of his orgasm until Castiel dropped his hand away from his own cock and Dean collapsed, half on and half off, the spent man.
They lay like that for a full minute, Castiel stroking Dean's hair and placing tiny kisses to his cheek and jaw, until their breathing slowed to a normal rate.
“Thank you Dean. That was amazing,” Castiel murmured when he was capable of speech.
Dean's eyes snapped open and he pushed up onto his hands. He looked down at the sticky mess between them and ran his fingers through Castiel's cum, bringing them up to look at it closely, rubbing it between his fingers and thumb.
“Dean?” Castiel asked from beneath him, reaching up to brush his hair from his sweaty forehead, pausing when Dean turned wide, wild eyes to him.
With a gasp, Dean pushed away, roughly pulling his, now flaccid, cock from Castiel’s ass, causing them both to wince. He sat, with his back to Castiel, at the end of the bed, wiping the cum onto his thigh then dropping his head into his hands, his breathing erratic.
“Dean?” Castiel carefully approached the younger man and gently laid a hand on his shoulder, not removing it when he flinched at the contact. “Are you okay?”
Dean turned to look at Castiel. He had the sheet wrapped around him again and had wiped his spend from his chest.
“Here, use this.” Castiel was holding a towel out and Dean took it with numb hands and wiped it over his stomach and chest. “Do you want me to?” Castiel asked, gesturing to the condom still on his penis.
“No, I got it.” Dean murmured. He removed and knotted the condom and suddenly there was a trash can in front of him so he dropped it in and wiped his dick over before reaching for his shorts.
“Are you okay?” Castiel asked again. “I’m sorry if I made you do something you didn’t want, or...or weren’t ready for.”
Dean finally turned and gave Castiel a weak smile.
“I’m fine. Really. It’s just... I've never done anything like that before, with a guy,” he was quick to clarify. “I’ve got a lot to process...up here,” he said, waving a hand around his temple.
“I understand,” Castiel replied quietly. They sat silently for a moment. “You called me ‘Cas’. I liked it.”
“What?” Dean asked, looking at Castiel as he pulled his briefs and shorts on.
“During...” Castiel waved a hand at the bed. “You called me ‘Cas’. You’ve never called me anything like that before. It’s always just been Mr. Novak, or sometimes Castiel.”
Dean managed another of those small smiles before he gathered up the rest of his things and walked to the door.
“I’ll just...I’m gonna finish Clyde's walk now,” he said, opening the door and letting the dog rush in.
“Okay,” Castiel replied.
Dean bent down and grabbed up the leash still attached to the dog's collar and began to leave the room. He paused halfway out the door and turned back to where Castiel was still sitting on the bed.
“It was great,” he said. “I really enjoyed it, I’m just...I need to figure some stuff out,” he admitted.
“Okay. I’ll be here, for whatever you need.”
“Thanks...Cas. C’mon Clyde.” He gave Castiel a true smile before dragging the dog out of the room.
Castiel could hear the faucet in the kitchen running and then a minute later he heard the front door open and close and he flopped back on the bed, releasing a long breath. He draped an arm across his eyes.
“What the fuck have I done?”

Dean ran, Clyde bounding happily alongside, unaware of his running mate's inner turmoil. Dean's brain was running just as fast, except in circles. An endless loop played in his mind.
He just has sex with his neighbor...
His sexy, hot neighbor....
Who was older than him....
....and a man!
Dean kept running, but so far had been unable to out run his thoughts. He ran on limbs that were heavy, but he pushed through. They weren’t heavy due to Dean’s strict fitness regime, no, they were heavy because of the post orgasmic looseness that still affected every joint and muscle. Because he’d just had sex with his hot, sexy, older, male neighbor.
It wasn’t until Clyde began barking and pulling at his leash that Dean realized they had somehow made it to the park. He pulled the dog back to his side and hushed him, wondering how they managed to safely cross the six streets to get to this point unscathed and if there was a devastating trail of destruction behind them.
Keeping the dog close to his side, they ran around the large pond and headed back to Castiel's house. This time Dean remained slightly more focused, trying to figure out what he was going to say to Mr. Novak when he returned the dog and they had that inevitable, awkward first meeting. Dean played out several scenarios in his mind before he finally made a decision. That sorted, he led the dog home.
§§§§§
Dean was not going to say he was proud of the path he took, but he stuck with his initial plan, and that plan was that he was going to be a coward and avoid Castiel completely. He opened the front door and peeked in. There was no sight of Cas anywhere in the close vicinity so Dean guided the dog inside and unclipped the leash. He hung it on the hook by the door, then retreated from the house, closing the door with a quiet click.
§§§§§
John was working late and Sammy had his nose in a book so Dean only had his mother to deal with.
“You’ve been very quiet all day today, is everything alright, sweetheart?” She asked as they ate their dinner.
“Yeah, just got some stuff on my mind,” he answered as he poked his fork into the piggly-wiggly meatloaf and lumpy mashed potatoes.
“Are you worried about college?” Mary asked.
“No,” Dean answered, piling his potatoes on the slice of meat and topping it off with his peas.
“Okay, you know I’m here if you need to talk.”
“Yeah, mom.”
“Probably just missing sucking face with Cassie.” Sam sniggers from behind his book.
“Shut up, bitch!” Dean said, swiping at his brother.
“Leave me alone. Jerk!” Sam said as he pushed Dean's hand away.
“That’s enough boys. Eat your food,” Mary scolded them.
“Sorry, mom,” the boys answered in unison, neither of them actually sorry.
They finished eating in silence.
“Are you going to Mr Novak’s tonight?” Mary asked as she gathered up the plates.
“What? Why?” Dean asked, slightly panicked.
“To run Clyde,” Mary stated.
“Oh, yeah right. Yeah, yeah, I’m going to run Clyde, but, I, ah, it’s been a bit hot today, so I might go a little later, when it’s cooler.”
“Okay, but take your key. I think I saw him drive past earlier, so he may not be there.”
Some of the tension inside Dean released when he realized that he might just be able to avoid coming face-to-face with Cas for at least another day. Part of him was also vastly disappointed.
§§§§§
The avoidance went on for another three days. Cas made sure he was either still hidden away in his bedroom or tucked away in his office whenever Dean arrived to pick up or drop off Clyde. When Clyde came bounding into his office, Deanless, on that third evening, it told Castiel that the boy, and honestly he was just a boy, was avoiding him. Not that Cas could blame him. He’d confessed he had never had any kind of sexual contact with another male and clearly he wasn’t handling their tryst well at all. Cas should have stopped it in the hallway after the kiss, he should have stopped it before, but he was weak and having Dean pressed against him had thrown all reasonable thought out the window.
Castiel turned in his office chair and rubbed his ginormous dog's neck.
“Hey Clyde, did ya have a good time with Dean?” He asked as the dog panted happily, his tongue lolled from the side of his mouth. “Bet you did. I did too, but at least you get to repeat yours every day.” Cas sighed and stood grabbing Clyde by the collar and leading him from the office. “Come on boy, let’s get you some food.”
§§§§§
Cas had just dragged the industrial sized bag of dog food back into the pantry when he heard his front door open. He closed the pantry door and looked up to see Dean standing in the doorway, fiddling with his key.
“Dean!”
“Heya Ca...um, Mr. Novak,” Dean said with a small smile.
Cas smiled back.
“Hello, Dean.”
Castiel took a step forward, but just one when he noticed the slight flinch of Dean's shoulders.
“Sorry, I’ll....” Cas looked around for a second. “Do you need...” Cas took a steadying breath. “It’s good to see you.”
“Um yeah,” Dean said, chewing on his lip. He turned and closed the door. “I’m sorry I ran out the other day, and that, um, I’ve been avoiding you and stuff.” He turned back and looked up at Cas hopefully.
“It’s okay, Dean. You told me it was your first experience with a man, and I get it.”
Cas looked at Dean, standing in front of the door, looking so damn vulnerable. “Why don’t you sit down and we can talk, if that’s what you want?”
Dean looked at the sofa beside him as if he’d only just realized it was there, then back to Cas.
“Okay, I’d like that, to talk...about this...us.”
“Great. Can I get you a drink? Would you like a coffee? Water?”
“Water. Water would be great, thank you,” Dean said as he walked around the sofa and sat.
A minute later Cas was handing him a glass of iced water and taking a seat in an armchair beside him, holding a glass of his own. They sat in an awkward silence, sipping their drinks, the only sound was the ice clinking in their glasses and Clyde slurping from his water dish.
“How...how have you been?” Cas finally asked, breaking the silence.
“Um...good. I’ve been good,” Dean said, barely glancing at Cas.
Cas looked down at his glass, running his thumb through the condensation on the side.
“I remember how overwhelming it can be to realize you’re attracted to the same sex. There’s all this confusion and fear. I’m sorry that you saw what you did. I’m sorry if I made you do something you weren’t ready for or didn’t want. I understand if you don’t want to see me any more. Hell, I’ll even understand if you want to make a report to the police,” he said, not looking up from the glass in his hands.
“What?” Dean's head flew up as he looked at Castiel wide eyed. “No, Cas, I don’t want to do that. I’m just...I just needed some time.” He reached out and put his glass on the table. “Could you, maybe, come sit next to me?”
Cas moved to sit on the couch next to Dean, who took one of his hands in his and began playing with his fingers.
“Okay, so here’s the thing. Girls have always been my thing and I thought they always would be. I’ve never been turned on by another guy until I met you. I’ve been dreaming about you for months, like, literally. I’d wake up with the biggest boners I have ever had. When I walked in on you the other day, it was like all my biggest fantasies come true. What we did? I wanted that. I’ve...I’ve been wanting it, you, for months, but I never knew how to ask you, I always figured you’d turn me away anyhow, seeing as I’m younger than you.” Dean shrugged, still holding Cas's hand in his. “And then I go and freak out, I’m sorry.”
“No, Dean. You don’t have to apologize,” Cas said hurriedly as he put his own glass on the floor. He put his free hand on top of Deans. “You’re right, I am older than you. I should have had more self control. I should have talked to you first and made sure it’s what you wanted and that you were okay with it.”
“Oh Cas. I’ve been jerking off two times a day to the memories of fucking you. I’d say, I’m pretty okay with it.” Dean finally looked up at Cas and gave him a half smirk.
“You have?” Cas asked, slightly breathless.
“Mmm-hmm. Even came in my sleep dreaming about you last night,” Dean admitted, blushing slightly.
“Can I kiss you?” Cas asked suddenly.
“Yeah.”
Castiel raised a hand and placed it on Dean's face, stroking his thumb over the boy's cheekbone before slowly leaning in and pressing their lips together. A shiver ran through Dean's body as he pressed back, moving his lips against Cas’ and capturing the other man's bottom lip and sucking it gently. Castiel drew back and gauged Dean's reaction.
“You good?” He asked.
Dean smiled softly and nodded.
“I’m good,” he replied before pulling Cas back in.
Dean had just enough brain power left to marvel how kissing Castiel wasn’t all that dissimilar to kissing the many, many girls he had in his short life time. His lips were just as soft and moved exactly the same. In fact, apart from the slight stubble grazing his face, he would almost not be able to tell the difference. Castiel's tongue ran across his lips and Dean wasted no time opening his mouth and allowing it admittance. Their tongues gently caressed each other as they continued to kiss. Their make out session was slow and unhurried. There was no urgency to their kisses, as if they had their whole life time to move on.
Cas let out a small moan as Dean ran his hands up the solid expanse of Castiel's back. Okay, this was slightly different. There was definitely more mass to Castiel than there was to any of the chicks Dean had previously been with, but that didn’t deter Dean, in fact, it seemed to spur him on.
Dean leaned into Cas and guided him to lie back on the sofa. Dean could feel Castiel's hardness pressing against him as he slotted between the man's legs and covered him with his body. Dean gasped as his erection brushed against Castiel’s and rolled his hips to feel the sensation again.
“Oh, fuck, Cas,” he murmured as he kissed across Castiel’s sharp jawline and nuzzled into his neck.
Castiel ran his hands down Dean's back and gripped his butt, pulling them harder together. They continued to kiss, and nuzzle and rut slowly together until Dean felt something cold and wet on his leg.
“What the fuck!” He yelped, suddenly pulling away and looking around. “Dammit Clyde!”
Clyde had obviously gotten bored on his cushion and decided to come see what his master and friend were up to. Dean rolled off Castiel and wiped at the giant slobber trail on his calf.
“I’m sorry about that, Dean,” Castiel said as he sat up. “I’ll put him outside,” he added, grabbing at Clydes collar.
“It’s okay. I probably should be going anyway. Gotta be up early tomorrow to run Clyde before work,” Dean explained.
“Oh, okay,” Cas replied, sounding disappointed.
“Walk me to the door?”
“Of course,” Cas chuckled.
At the door, Dean paused as he reached for the handle. He turned back to see Cas standing closer than he’d normally be comfortable with.
“I want this, Cas,” he said, reaching up to brush his thumb across Castiel’s cheekbone. “If you do.”
Cas leaned in and kissed Dean.
“I do. I want this too.”
“You’re going to have to teach me a whole lotta stuff.”
“I think I’m going to enjoy that.”
Dean grinned and kissed Cas deeply before finally opening the door.
“I guess I’ll see you tomorrow,” he said.
“You will,” Cas replied, grinning just as widely.
“Okay,” Dean leaned in and stole another quick peck. “See you tomorrow, you too, Clyde.”
“Tomorrow,” Cas agreed and with a final kiss, Dean practically skipped out of the door.
§§§§§
Dean’s boner was down to a half chub by the time he made it through the door.
“You’re in a good mood tonight,” Mary said, catching Dean as he tried to get up the stairs without anyone noticing him.
“Yep, had a great run.”
“You were gone for a while.”
Dean froze half way up the staircase.
“Yeah, um, I was just talking to Ca..Mr.Novak about some stuff,” Dean said as he began to ascend again.
“What stuff?”
“Just architecture stuff. Cause, you know, he’s an architect and I’m doing engineering. Design stuff, it’s all similar,” he rushed out.
“Oh, well that’s nice that you have someone to talk to about it,” Mary said.
“Yep, it’s great. Now I’m going to go have a shower cause I’m all sweaty and gross.” ‘And my Dick is killing me and I need to rid it of some poisons ’ he finished in his brain.
“Okay.”
Dean released a sigh of relief as his mother finally walked away. He wasted no time slipping into the bathroom and as soon as the water had been adjusted to his liking, even less time was wasted getting his hand around his cock and stripping it for all he was worth, thinking about Cas and how his lips felt against Deans and his body stretched out and hard beneath him. He came with a muffled ‘fuck!’ just ten seconds before Sammy began pounding on the door.
“Hurry up, jerk! I need the bathroom!” Sam yelled.
“Okay, bitch! Just give me a minute!” Dean yelled back as he braced himself upright against the wall while the aftershocks of his orgasm rippled through his body.
“Can’t wait until Cassie's back,” Sam grumbled as Dean finally opened the bathroom door.
“And why’s that, Samuel?” Dean asked.
“Coz, then you’ll stop jerking off in the shower and using up all the hot water,” the youngest Winchester said as he pushed past his brother.
“Fine, I’ll just use your socks,” Dean snarked through the door before stalking off to his room.
§§§§§
Over the next two weeks Dean proved to be a very attentive student as Castiel taught him all the finer points about male/male sexual relationships. He learned the importance of thorough preparation and in no time was able to have Castiel moaning and begging for him, just with his fingers. He learned that as much as he loved receiving blowjobs, he wasn’t impartial to giving them as well, and after a few sloppy, but well intentioned attempts and some minor suggestions from Cas, he was able to bring his lover to a whole new level of satisfaction. He was even getting used to, and liking, the taste of Castiel’s tangy pre-cum on his tongue. He hadn’t yet managed to get Cas to finish in his mouth, but given the enthusiastic noises coming from the other man, he must have been doing something right.
Dean learned about the pleasure prostate stimulation brought, at least for Cas, and which position was better for that. He learnt which position he enjoyed most and which Cas did. He discovered all the sensitive places on Castiel’s body and that nuzzling him just under his jaw line would, almost, leave him with absolutely no control, begging and pleading for more, more!
The best day of Dean's life came when his parents told him they were taking Sam to go visit his grandmother over in Lebanon, three hours away and they would be staying for almost a week. Dean had been working part time at the local market so he got to stay behind, and he was sooo disappointed about it.
So disappointed in fact, that he had to seek consolation with Cas each and every day, and night, taking his time and worshiping Cas from head to toe. He cursed his work, Castiel's work, his twice daily runs with Clyde and anything else that would take him or Cas from Castiel's bed.
Dean stretched and luxuriated in the cool air blowing from the cooler set in Cas’ bedroom window. He’d taken Clyde for a run then after his shift at the market, which also allowed Cas to get some work done, he’d rushed back to Castiel’s place for some ‘afternoon delight’, and holy fuck, it was getting better and better each and every time. Dean lay on his back with a satisfied smirk on his face remembering the way Cas looked riding his cock and all the dirty, dirty bedroom talk that came tumbling out of the older man’s mouth.
Dean closed his eyes and reached down to caress his already hardening cock. God, he loved being young, having little to no refractory time. He slowly stroked over his balls as he listened to Cas move around the kitchen. Desire was already filling Dean’s veins with fire so he threw the light sheet back and left the bed moving down to the kitchen, stark naked, to find Cas filling the dishwasher with the dirty dishes from their lunch, also completely nude, with exception of a light pink, flowery apron. This was one of the benefits of summer, too hot to wear clothing, also no one thought twice if you kept your shades drawn against the scorching sun.
“Hmmm, you look so good all bent over like that, baby,” Dean said as he walked over and grabbed Castiel by the hips, rubbing his erection between Castiels naked asscheeks.
“Again Dean?” Cas said with a small chuckle as he braced his hands against the counter, but didn’t straighten up.
“You complaining, Cas?” Dean murmured as he bent over Cas’ back.
“Not at all, but don’t be surprised if I shoot dust. I’m not as young as I used to be.”
Dean slipped two fingers inside Cas. He was happy to see the older man was still nicely stretched and slippery from their two earlier rounds between the sheets.
“Here,” Cas said as he slid the box of condoms he’d picked up earlier across the bench to Dean. Dean ripped the box open and pulled one of the foil packets out quickly tearing that open and rolling the pre-lubricated condom down over his dick. He stepped back behind Cas, lined up then slid home. Cas moaned as Dean slowly withdrew then pressed back in.
“Oh fuck Cas, I don’t think I’m ever gonna get enough of this.”
“Enjoy it while it lasts Dean, when you’re my age three times a day will just be a happy memory.”
“Can I just point out that you are your age and this is our third time today?” Dean said as he rolled his hips.
“And that’s mostly due to you and your youthful insatiable energy. If you were older we would probably be curled up on the couch already, drinking ice tea and complaining about the younger generation.”
“And are you?” Dean asked with a forceful thrust. “Complaining about the younger generation?”
“Only that there’s too much talking and not enough fucking,” Cas said as he reached back with one hand to grip Dean’s thigh.
“Well then, I guess I had better quit the talkin’ and get right to the fucking.”
“Yes. Please do.”
Dean chuckled, and never one to back away from a challenge, he readjusted his grip on his older lover, moving one hand from his hip up to his shoulder and proceeded to pound forcefully into Castiel’s ass until the other man had to move closer to the counter for more support.
“Aaah, fuck, Dean. You fill me so good, so fucking good!” Cas moaned, spurring Dean on. He fucking loved the filthy ramblings that fell from Castiel’s mouth when they were together like this.
Dean loved that he could reduce a highly intelligent, college educated, well sort after and respected professional to just ‘fuck’ and ‘harder’ and ‘more’. He pulled out until just the swollen tip of his cock was catching on Castiel’s rim then pushed back in, harder and harder, until Cas was mostly using the counter to support himself.
“Pleasepleasepleaseplease…” Cas chanted as he pulled at his own cock with his right hand.
Dean was more than happy to comply, fucking harder and harder until Cas came with a choked off half groan half cry, almost collapsing to the ground.
“So good. You’re so fucking good,” Castiel mumbled incoherently.
Dean’s grip on Castiels hips tightened as the sweat on their skin made it harder to hold on. Dean used the burn that was building in his legs to spur him on towards his own completion. This one was taking longer than Dean had expected, but then again it was his third time in just over as many hours. Finally, finally , he felt his orgasm rushing through him and he slammed into Cas as he came with a shout and his body locked up and shuddered as he spilled into the condom.
When his climax faded into afterglow, he lay along Castiel’s back, panting, the counter doing most of the work supporting them as Dean’s legs were nothing but two shaking noodles.
“Fuck! That was intense,” he panted as he wiped his forehead on Cas’ back.
“You’re telling me,” Cas mumbled back.
“I think I’ve died.”
“You can’t do that, Clyde still needs his run tonight,” Cas chuckled.
“Fuck, don’t remind me. Hopefully, I will have feeling back in my lower half by then.”
Cas chuckled again and reached back to pat Dean on his flank.
“Ah, the joys of youth. Come on, we have to get moving. I need to finish cleaning in here and you need to go rest those legs. You do have work tomorrow and a dog to run. I won’t be the reason you lose your scholarship because you fell out of fitness over the summer.”
“Oh, I don’t think my fitness will be a problem,” Dean murmured before placing a kiss on Castiel’s shoulder.
Dean stood up and carefully pulled out of Cas’ ass. He discarded the condom and used the now soiled apron to clean his dick off and give Castiel’s ass a perfunctory wipe over before taking it and dropping it in the laundry. Once the kitchen was cleaned they each took a quick shower and pulled on some underwear then lay on the couch, enjoying Cas’ AC, cuddling and watching movies until Cas decided it was time for him to go do some actual work.
Dean wandered into Castiel’s office and kissed him on the head.
“I’m gonna head home and get a change of clothes and probably should eat some of the food mom bought,” Dean said.
“You don’t need clothes while you’re here, and I have food,” Cas replied, looking up and smiling.
“I know, but I’ve been wearing the same pair of running shorts for three days and they’re gettin’ a bit ripe, plus I think the parental unit will be a bit suspicious if they come home to a kitchen full of food, ‘specially since they’re always complaining that I’m worse than a plague of locusts.”
“You really need to watch that appetite of yours. If you’re not careful, you’ll end up like me,” Cas said, spinning his stool around to look up at Dean and patted his stomach.
“Aww, baby, there’s nothing wrong with how you look. It’s just the fuel for your love machine.” Dean winked. He kissed Cas on the lips. “Anyway, gotta go. I’ll bring back a pie.”
“Hey, we’re running short of salad stuff, can you grab some of that too?” Cas asked.
“Hmmmm, I think that really will make them suspicious, but I’ll see what I can do.”
Dean grinned and disappeared out of the door.
Cas shook his head and went back to work.
§§§§§
Dean returned a couple of hours later dressed for running and carrying a shopping bag.
“Hey sweetheart, did you get your work done?” He asked as he walked through the door.
“Yes. I managed to finish those cottages.” Cas said, peering into the bags Dean set on the counter.
“In just a couple of hours?”
“Yeah. I must be firing on all cylinders now that all the cobwebs have been cleared away,” Cas said, smirking at Dean.
“Well, if that isn’t an argument for copious amounts of sex, then I don’t know what is.” Dean grinned back. “Anyway, I grabbed some rolls and ground beef and lettuce and shit. Thought we could make burgers.”
“This is great. I’ll get them going while you run Clyde.”
“And then sex?” Dean asked, stepping close to Cas and grabbing his hips.
“Maybe, we’ll see.” Cas said with a chuckle, pushing at Dean’s chest.
Dean made a whining noise.
“That always means no,” he said.
“Not always,” Cas said. “Now stop pouting and go take the horse for a run,” Cas said as he began to unpack the bags.
“Yes, sir!” Dean saluted Cas then moved back to the door and grabbed Clyde’s leash. “Come on boy! Walkies!”
Clyde got up from his bed and rushed over to Dean, almost knocking him over in the process.
“Come on dude, let’s go. Maybe we can find you a pretty girl dog at the park. It’s not fair that daddy gets all the action while you’re left outside the door,” Dean said, looking over at Cas with a cheeky grin.
“Keep that attitude up and you both might be looking for pretty girls at the park!” Cas snapped back, looking for all the world like he was trying his best to suppress a grin of his own.
“Sorry, Cas. I’m into a lot of things, but bestiality isn’t one of them.”
Dean laughed and ducked as Cas threw a tomato at him.
“Just go for your run!” He said.
“Well I guess I’m probably not getting any tonight either,” he said looking down at Clyde as they made their way through the door.
Cas just shook his head fondly and began making the burgers.
§§§§§
“Honey, I’m home!” Dean announced as he led Clyde through the door.
Cas came out of his office and greeted Dean with a deep kiss. Now that Dean’s parents had returned, they were back to squeezing in time together after Clyde’s runs. No more lingering sex sessions and snuggles on the couch. Especially after one of the neighbors had mentioned the amount of time Dean had spent at Castiel’s house. Dean covered by saying he was helping Cas paint a few rooms, they seemed to buy it.
“How long have we got?” Cas asked.
“Dad’s at his monthly poker game, mom’s got her book club and I think Sammy’s geeking out at his friends place tonight, so I’d say at least a couple of hours. Do you want me to leave and then sneak back over the fence?” Dean asked, only half joking. They had to play it a bit safe.
“No. I’ve printed out some stuff that you can take home with you just in case your parents ask.”
“What kind of stuff?” Dean asked, snaking his hands up under Castiel's shirt.
“Just stuff that will help you with your course work at college. And I really do think you should read it, not just leave it laying around as a cover story.”
“Yes dad!” Dean rolled his eyes.
“Please don’t call me that,” Cas screwed his face up.
“What if I call you daddy?” Dean asked as he began backing Cas back towards his bedroom.
“Hmm, that’s really not my kink,” Cas said.
“Good to know,” Dean said as he nuzzled into Castiel's neck. “How do you feel about spanking?”
“Dean!” Cas laughed. “Stop, I gotta feed the dog.”
“I’ll feed him on my way out, now how about you explain these study aides to me while you’re riding my dick?”
“Hmm, I’ve heard about associative learning and that could actually help.”
“Oh my god! Please don’t turn fucking into an educational tool,” Dean groaned and rolled his eyes.
“Why not? It might actually be beneficial to you.”
“Only if I want to crack a boner in every class!”
“Yes, I can see that being a problem,” Cas agreed seriously.
“Yes, exactly. Jeez, I’m sorry I even brought it up, but now that we agree, can we do less of the chit chat and more of the, you know?” Dean asked, cocking his head in the direction of Cas’ bedroom.
“I think I would like that,” Cas grinned.
Dean grabbed his wrist and dragged him the last few feet into the room.
“I really don’t know where you get all this energy,” Cas said as he stripped his t-shirt off.
“You. I get it from you. I’m a succubus, didn’t you know?” Dean replied, reaching out to undo Castiel’s pants, having already shed the three pieces of clothing he had been wearing.
“Incubus,” Cas corrected him.
“What?” Dean asked pausing to look up at Castiel confused.
“Succubi are females, you’re male therefore you’d be an incubus.”
“And this is important, why?” Dean asked.
“No reason, just wanted to get our demons straight.”
“Baby, there’s nothing straight about either of us, now are we finished talking about monsters?”
“Yes.”
“Awesome,” Dean grabbed Cas and threw him onto the bed. He crawled over the mattress and took him in his mouth, sucking him to full hardness. Cas groaned and threaded both hands through Dean’s hair.
“Aaaaah, maybe you are part incubus after all.”

Mary wasn’t an amazing cook, but she knew she made cookies fairly well. There had been a couple of unseasonably cooler days so she took advantage of baking up a storm. She closed the lid on a small plastic container and headed out the door. Mr. Novak had been so good to Dean over the summer, helping him with preparing for his classes that she wanted to do something nice in return, so armed with a batch of her peanut butter cookies, she walked down the sidewalk to his house.
His shades were drawn, but she was certain he was home as his car was in the drive. She turned up his footpath and walked along the front of the house passing a window that was slightly open. A deep groan caught her attention and she paused just on the bottom step.
Her eyebrows shot up as she heard her neighbor moaning. At first she was worried Mr. Novak was injured, but listening closer she blushed and pulled back slightly when she realized they were sounds of pleasure. She briefly wondered who might be in there with him. There were no cars parked in his drive other than his own and Mary knew there were several single women around the area who looked twice whenever they saw him walk by. She was about to turn and walk away when she heard him speak again.
“Oh fuck Dean…you feel so good around my cock like that…so tight…so wet. That’s it Baby, take me deeper.”
Dean? Dean!
Her Dean? Her son Dean?
No way! There was no way that her son, her heterosexual, dating a very nice young lady, male, son could be inside that house being violated by an older man! Absolutely no way! Had to be a different Dean.
Had to be.
She backed away when heard Dean’s voice drift through the window. There was no mistaking it this time, she couldn’t make out what he was saying, but she would recognize it anywhere. She turned and hurried back to her house, closing the door behind her with shaking hands.
She didn’t know what to do. Her first instinct was to call the police, but Dean was nineteen and of consenting age, even if he was at the mercy of a predator. She wanted to talk to John, but he was at work and this wasn’t a conversation she wanted to have over the phone. She brought one shaking hand up and pressed it to her mouth, the urge to vomit suddenly overwhelming as she ran down the hall to the small bathroom and landed in front of the toilet just in time to throw up her breakfast. When the urge passed, she sat back against the cupboard and brought her knees up to her chest, wrapping her arms around her legs as she began to cry, the cookies laying forgotten where she had dropped them just inside the door.

Dean was in a pretty darn good mood. He had finally managed to get Cas to cum using just his mouth and fingers. He hadn’t swallowed, he wasn’t quite there yet, but it was a step in the right direction. He was whistling and spinning his keys on his finger as he walked through the house to the kitchen where he found Mary sitting at the dining table.
“Hi mom!” He greeted her. “Oh! Cookies!”
“Hello, Dean,” she greeted him back as he walked to the counter to grab several of the baked treats. “Could you sit down for a minute? I’d like to talk to you about something.”
“Sure mom, what’s up?” Dean asked, sitting down opposite his mother as he chewed on his cookie.
“I…” Mary sighed and fiddled with the coffee mug in front of her. “I don’t think you should be going to Mr. Novak's house any more.”
“What?” Dean asked, a shock of surprise running through him. “Why?”
“Because I know what he’s doing to you and it’s..it’s inappropriate.”
“What he’s doing to me? He’s not doing anything to me.” Dean argued, anger and
fear rising up within him.
“Dean, I was there today and I heard you. I know he’s molesting you and it’s wrong and I’m putting a stop to it.”
“Molesting me?!” Dean nearly shouted in surprise as he stood. “Cas isn't doing anything to me that I don’t want!”
“Dean, please! You can’t see this clearly. He’s manipulating you into thinking that this is normal, that this is something you want! But it isn’t! A man shouldn’t want to do that to another man, let alone a boy! He’s nothing but a pervert who’s using you for his own gratification!”
“Shut up! Just shut up! Don’t you dare say anything about Cas!”
“Dean! Please see reason! I’m not blaming you, if anything, this is my fault. I should have been watching you more carefully so you didn’t fall victim to a monster like him. He’s using you Dean, and I’m worried he’s going to hurt you one day,” Mary pleaded.
“You don’t know anything about me and Cas! He’s not using me!”
“Baby, I know you don’t want to hear this, but it’s the truth. Men like Mr. Novak…they can’t help themselves. They get off on the power they hold over you. They enjoy making you bend to their will.”
“You don’t know him, mom! He’s nothing like that. He’s not holding anything over me! He’s not making me do anything I don’t want,” Dean growled.
“Why Dean? Why would you let someone do that to you if he wasn’t forcing you?”
“He’s not doing anything to me, mom! He’s the bottom in our relationship!” Dean said, trying to make his mother understand.
“What?”
Dean huffed and ran his hand down his face in frustration pacing across the kitchen. How could he make Mary see?
“ I’m fucking him!” He yelled.
“It doesn’t matter who’s doing what to who, Dean!” Mary replied after a shocked moment. “He’s still older than you and is manipulating you into thinking this is what you want!”
“It is what I want!”
“What about Cassie?” Mary asked.
“We broke up.”
“When?”
“Before she left for Europe.”
“Why didn’t you tell us?” Mary asked, hurt showing on her face.
“Because it didn’t matter. We had a long talk and agreed it was for the best. I still love Cassie as a friend, but we aren’t together.”
“Was it because of Castiel?”
“Partially. I was confused about how I felt and Cassie, Cassie supported me!”
“See Dean? You were confused and he stepped in and twisted that all around in your head until he got what he wanted.”
“Jesus Christ, mom!” Dean brought his hands up to his face again and screamed before throwing his arms out. “I made the first move! Cas had never even looked sideways at me! He had never done anything inappropriate towards me until I made the first move!”
Which was mostly true. Dean would never have been so bold to kiss the other man if Clyde hadn’t led him to Castiel's bedroom that day.
“Dean, I know that’s what you think.” Mary said, trying to remain calm as she stood. “But it’s just not true, sweetheart. And I want you to stop it now, today, or I’ll….”
“Or what, Mary? You’ll go to the police?” Dean snarled, leaning across the table. “News flash, I’m nineteen. I’m a consenting adult, there’s nothing they can do about it.”
“I’m aware of that,” Mary said, rising to Dean's challenge. “I’ll just have to take matters into my own hands. You’re my son and it’s my job to protect you, and if I have to tell everyone about his perversion, to protect you and to stop this happening to someone else’s child, I will.”
“You do that mom, you try to run Cas out of town, and I’ll go with him!” Dean said low and steady.
“You wouldn’t.”
“I would.”
“What about college? You start in the fall,” Mary asked.
“This has nothing to do with college, mom, but there are other colleges out there. I’ll go to one of them. I’ll work three jobs if I have to.”
“Please Dean, I’m just trying to protect you,” Mary pleaded.
“I don’t need your protection, mom. I know what I’m doing,” Dean replied, softly, hoping Mary could see the truth.
“No, you don’t honey. He’s so much older than you and should know better than to take advantage of a confused kid.”
“I’m an adult mom!” Dean said. “What exactly is your problem here? That he’s older or that he’s a man?”
“Dean, I’m just worried. When this gets out, what are people going to think?”
“I don’t care what people think!” Dean said, turning back to face his mother. “That’s their problem.”
“Obviously you do care or you would have come to us before all this began.”
“Yeah, because look how well this has gone!” Dean ran his hands through his hair. “You know what? I just…I just need to get out of here!”
Dean headed for the door.
“Dean, where are you going?” Mary asked.
“Out!” He shouted back over his shoulder.
“Dean, get back here! I’m not done talking.”
“Oh, you’ve said quite enough and I’m not going to listen to another minute of your homophobic bullshit!”
Dean wrenched open the door then slammed it shut behind him. Mary heard the sound of the Impala starting then tires squealing as Dean pulled away from the curb. She took a deep breath to calm herself then returned to the kitchen for another cup of coffee and a shot of something stronger.
When her nerves had settled, she stood and left the house. If Dean wouldn’t listen to reason then she will just have to make Castiel.
§§§§§
Dean drove around aimlessly for an hour or two and before he knew it he arrived at the front door of an all too familiar home. He knocked and waited, fiddling with the keys in his hand, he briefly contemplated leaving, but a noise inside kept him in place. He looked up when the door opened.
“Dean! This is a surprise, what are you doing here?”
“Hey Cassie, um, welcome home,” Dean said.
“Mom and dad aren’t here, but come on in. Good to see you,” Cassie said, stepping back and letting Dean inside.
“Good to see you too, how was Europe?” He asked, hugging her tightly.
“Oh my god! It was amazing. Come on through to the kitchen. I’ll get us some snacks and tell you all about it.” She replied, stepping back.
Dean followed his ex-girlfriend through the house to the kitchen and sat at the island listening while she told him all about her trip as she pulled chips and sodas from the cupboard and fridge. He felt at ease here, sitting at the familiar counter, watching Cassie bustle around putting chips in a bowl and pouring the sodas into glasses, adding ice to hers and leaving Dean’s without, just the way he liked it. More at ease than he had in the last few hours at least.
“And the architecture was amazing! You would have loved it!” She continued as she handed Dean his drink. “Come on! I have pictures!”
She picked up the bowl of chips and gestured with her head for Dean to follow when she left the room. Dean took his glass and obediently trailed behind her.
§§§§§
“You’re right, these were amazing.” Dean said as he clicked through the many, many pictures of castles and cathedrals and the more modern buildings throughout Europe.
“One day people are going to look at a building and say ‘that’s a Dean Winchester’,” Cassie said, putting her head on Dean’s shoulder.
“Yeah. I doubt that,” Dean said with a chuckle as he reached out and closed Cassie’s laptop.
“Oh, ye of little faith!” Cassie teased.
“Yeah, okay maybe if it was a bridge or something.”
They were in Cassie’s bedroom by now and Dean turned on the bed and looked at his friend.
“Alright, Cassie, I’ve looked at all your touristy pics, now tell me, what were the guys like? Did you find any you liked?” He teased back, because teasing was comfortable.
“Oh my gosh! Yes! There was this one guy, Rodrigo, in Portugal, fuck Dean, muscles and tan for days! Mom was being a bit over protective, cause we were in a foreign country and all, but I managed to convince her to let me meet him for dinner. And then there was Jeffrey in London, he was nice.”
“So the trip was worth your while then?” Dean asked.
“Oh yes, even if I didn’t get acquainted with too many of the locals, I certainly enjoyed the scenery!” Cassie laughed and shoulder bumped Dean.
“That’s awesome!” Dean laughed.
“So what about you? I feel like I’ve been talking about myself for hours, how has your summer been so far?”
“It was okay, been working some, saving for college,” Dean said looking down and playing with a thread in his jeans.
“And what about the hottie architect around the corner?” Cassie asked with a waggle of her eyebrows.
“Yeah, well, um Cas and I…” Dean scratched at the back of his neck and avoided looking at Cassie.
“Oooo! Cas now, is it? Things going that well, are they?”
“Yeah, we’re kinda a thing,” Dean admitted with a shy grin.
“Oh my god! That’s awesome!“ Cassie launched herself and wrapped Dean in a giant hug. “I’m so happy for you.”
“Huh, thanks,” Dean replied, hugging Cassie back.
“So what’s it like? Was it everything you’d imagined?”
“Yeah, kinda was,” Dean smiled.
“That’s fantastic.”
“Yeah, it is, isn’t it?” Dean asked sadly.
“What’s wrong?” She asked.
“Nothin’ really, it’s…it’s just…”
“Dean, you know you can tell me anything. I may not be your girlfriend anymore, but I’m still your friend,” Cassie said, placing a hand on his arm.
“It’s complicated.”
“Talk to me.”
“Mom found out about us and didn’t take it too well,” Dean admitted.
“Really? I’m surprised about that.”
“I guess all that ‘as long as you’re happy’ bullshit was just bullshit.” Dean flopped down on the bed and covered his eyes with an arm. “She lost her shit and demanded I stop seeing Cas or she’d tell everyone he was a perverted monster who preyed on kids or some fucked up shit like that. We got into a huge fight and I walked out.”
Cassie lay down beside dean.
“I’m sorry. Do you want to talk about it?” She asked, snuggling into Dean’s side.
He wrapped an arm around her and drew her close.
“Not really.”
“Okay,” she said and fiddled with one of the buttons on Dean’s shirt for a moment. “You wanna take a drive?”
Dean smiled up at the ceiling.
§§§§§
Mary had hoped Dean would return so they could have a more rational conversation. She just had to make him see the error of his ways. She was right, she just knew it. Even if Dean thought this was what he wanted, she knew it was just a phase and the sooner she separated them, the sooner Dean would get over his infatuation with their neighbor. She gave him thirty minutes then grabbed her keys and walked around the corner to Castiel’s house.
She knocked firmly on the door and was glaring holes into the wood by the time Castiel opened it. He greeted her with a smile.
“Mrs. Winchester, hello. What a surprise.”
“Hello Mr. Novak, we need to talk.”
His smile faltered slightly.
“Of course. Please come in.” Cas stepped to the side and gestured for Mary to enter the house.
She took in his appearance as she passed, stopping just inside the door, not wanting to go any further into his den of iniquity. He was dressed in a pair of dark slacks and a white button down shirt, opened at the throat. He had obviously tried to tame his hair without much success and just thinking of the reason his hair was so unruly made Mary’s stomach churn. Her eyes fell onto a small bruise that peeked just above his collar and her fury climbed a notch.
“Can I offer you…” Cas began to ask, only to be interrupted.
“I know what you are doing to my son and I want you to stop!” Mary demanded cutting straight to the point.
“What I’m doing…?” Cas repeated. “I’m not doing anything to Dean.”
“Don’t lie to me, Novak! I heard you, Dean admitted it! I don’t know how you did it. How you manipulated Dean into this but you and your…perversions are going to stay the hell away from my son!”
“I didn’t manipulate Dean into doing anything he didn’t want or ask for himself!”
“He’s just a boy and he looked up to you, idolized you, it must have been so easy for you to…”
“Dean is not a child. He’s a grown, consenting adult and nothing we have done has been against his will,” Cas replied, using up every ounce of strength he had to keep calm. “And none of this is any of your business.”
“I am his mother! It is my job to protect my children from predators like you!” Mary snapped back.
“Mrs. Winchester, Mary…”
“Mrs. Winchester is fine.”
“Mrs. Winchester,” Cas began with a small nod, “I understand that our relationship has come as a shock to you, but I can assure you that I did not prey on Dean or manipulate him into anything he himself didn’t want.”
“Relationship? That’s what you’re calling the abuse of my son?”
“I am not abusing Dean. I care for him very much and he cares for me. He is free to leave this relationship any time he wishes.”
“How many others have there been? Huh? How many other innocent children have you destroyed?” Mary demanded, getting into Castiel’s personal space.
“None!”
Mary scoffed and stepped back.
“Yeah, right. Like I’m going to believe that. It must have been so easy for you to sucker some young thing in. Be nice to them, manipulate them to make them think they’re in love with you then snatch away their innocence, ruin their entire life for your own sick, twisted satisfaction.”
“I’m going to have to ask you to leave now,” Cas said as he reached for the door.
“I know I can’t go to the police with this, but you can be damned sure I’m going to tell everyone in the neighborhood just how sick and perverted you are. Let’s see what everyone thinks about you then!”
Cas took a deep calming breath.
“I do not want to come between you and your son, but the only person you are going to hurt by spreading hateful, malicious gossip and lies, will be Dean, and to whom do you think he’s going run to when the town turns on him? Hmmm, Mrs. Winchester? If I was you, I would take care of your home, and leave mine to me! Now, get! Out!” Castiel pointed to the open door.
Mary could see the threat within Castiel Novak’s words and if he thought for even one second she was going to back down, he had another thing coming. She grit her teeth and nodded at Novak.
“This isn’t over,” she growled as she turned to leave. “I will save my son!”
She stormed out the door and heard it slam behind her. Maybe she couldn’t run him out of town, but there had to be something she could do to get him out of Dean’s life. She just had to calm down and reevaluate her attack.

Dean and Cassie drove aimlessly for a few hours before they found themselves at ‘their spot’. Dean pulled a few blankets from Baby’s trunk and they walked the trail for a few hundred yards before they spread a blanket on the grass, under a tree, beside a gently running stream. They sat quietly for a while before Dean finally settled on his back lying on the blanket with Cassie snuggled into his side, using his chest as a pillow.
“Do you love him?” She asked, plucking at the material of Deans t-shirt.
She felt, rather than saw his shrug.
“Dunno. Yes? Maybe?” He finished with a sigh. “Why? Are you jealous?”
He jostled Cassie a little who huffed a laugh.
“Dean Winchester, you have never, in all the time I have known you, ever made me feel unloved. Even now, and we’re not even together!”
It was Dean’s turn to chuckle.
“I do, at least I think I do. I know I feel something for Cas, but it’s all so confusing.”
Cassie sat up and looked down at her ex-boyfriend.
“You know you can talk to me. About anything,” she said.
Dean sat up and picked at the grass at the edge of the blanket.
“I’m just scared, you know,” he admitted. “I mean, if that was moms reaction, what’s dad gonna be like? And the rest of the town, what’re they gonna say? I don’t want Cas getting hurt because of me. I still wanna go to school here, but what if the town turns on him…on us?”
He looked at Cassie with scared eyes.
“They won’t, Dean. Mr. Novak is pretty respected around here,” she assured him, reaching out to give him a reassuring touch on the arm.
“But what if they do?”
“They’re not that bigoted around here. I mean look at my parents, they got some flack for being a mixed race couple, but mostly people just don’t even notice.”
“I don’t know, Cassie, maybe I should have applied in California or another more progressive state,” Dean sighed.
“It’s probably not too late to accept another offer,” Cassie said.
“No,” Dean shook his head, “I don’t wanna leave Cas. I’m not gonna run away, not unless Cas has to go.”
Cassie smiled at Dean.
“What?” He asked.
“You do love him,” she stated.
Dean smiled shyly and rubbed the back of his neck.
“Yeah, I guess I do.”
They sat and talked for a while longer until the sun had moved across the sky and was beginning to dip below the tree line.
“It’s getting late, we should probably go,” Cassie said.
Dean hummed in agreement.
“Do you wanna go home?” She asked.
“Not really,” Dean admitted.
“Did you want to come and stay at my place for a couple of days?” She offered.
Dean looked up at her surprised.
“Do you think that would be okay?”
“Yeah! Of course. My parents always loved you, besides I know I can trust you, you’re in love remember,” she teased him as she stood and held her hand out to him.
He took it and pulled himself to his feet.
“That’s right, I am!” He said proudly.
He lifted the blanket from the ground and gave it a cursory shake to remove the grass clinging to it. He put it over his shoulder and then walked back along the trail. Back at the Impala, Dean dropped the blanket in the trunk and closed it with a heavy thunk. They climbed into the front seat and Dean slid the key into the ignition. He took a deep breath and gripped the steering wheel.
“Is everything okay?” Cassie asked.
“I’m not being a coward if that’s what you think. I know I have to face the music sometime, but I just…” He released a sigh and rubbed at his chest. He dropped his head back against the seat back. “Why can’t they just be more understanding and accepting, like you were?” He asked, rolling his head to look at his friend.
“Well, because, one: I’m awesome, and two: you were struggling, and you were honest with me about that struggle and we discussed it and figured it out together. Maybe if you had had a similar discussion with your parents, their reaction might have been different?”
Dean snorted.
“Oh yeah! I’m sure any discussion with big, bad, ex-marine John Winchester about his son having a ‘thing’ for dudes was gonna go well.”
“I guess we’ll never know now, will we?” Cassie said.
“Guess not,” Dean agreed. He sat up and turned the key, bringing his Baby to life. “Time to find out.”
Cassie patted him on the leg as he pulled out of the parking space and steered in the direction of the Winchester house and all the uncertainty there.
Dean pulled up in front of his house with some trepidation. It was already dark and he should have already taken Clyde for his run, but that was just another thing he was avoiding. Alright, so he was being a coward.
“Do you want me to come in?” Cassie asked.
“Yeah, but I don’t want you to be caught in the middle of anything,” Dean admitted.
“I’m a big girl Dean, I think I’ll be fine,” Cassie said.
“I’m just gonna grab a few things. Work stuff and running clothes, in and out, real quick,, he said.
“Okay, you do that, I’ll try and run interference with your parents.”
“You’re amazing, you know that?” Dean said.
“I do! Now let’s get this done.”
§§§§§
Mary looked up when she heard someone entering the kitchen. She relaxed slightly when she saw it was Sam.
“Hi, mom.”
“Hello, Sam. Did you have a good time at Cody’s?” She asked.
“Yep, what’s for dinner?” He asked as he walked to the refrigerator and looked inside.
“Don’t know, make yourself a sandwich or something,” she said, chewing on her thumb nail.
“A sandwich?” He whined.
“Yes, a sandwich, Sam,” Mary replied. “I’m not in the mood to cook.”
“But a sandwich isn’t enough, I’m a growing boy,” Sam said, completely oblivious to his mothers mood.
“Then take some fruit too and go to your room!” Mary snapped.
“Why? What did I do?” The boy asked.
“Nothing, I need to speak to your father.”
“‘Bout what?”
“Nothing that concerns you. Now hurry up and get upstairs.”
“But he’s not even home yet,” Sam whined again.
“He will be soon and I want you to make yourself scarce before he gets here.”
Sam finally clued into his mothers mood and quickly made himself two sandwiches, poured himself a glass of juice and grabbed an apple on his way out of the kitchen. Mary tracked the sounds of his heavy footfalls as he stomped up the stairs and into his room. She would speak to him later once she had talked to John and sorted this whole mess out.
Mary was still at the kitchen table when John walked in forty minutes later, her thumbnail now down to the quick.
“Hi, sweetheart,” he said as he walked past her, stopping briefly to kiss her on the top of her head. He walked to the sink and started to wash his hands. “What’s for dinner?”
“Haven’t started anything yet,” Mary replied.
“Okay. Where are the boys?”
“Sam’s upstairs and I don’t know where Dean is,” she mumbled.
“Huh.” John shook his hands out and checked his watch before drying his hands. “He’s probably taking Novak’s dog for a walk.”
Mary scoffed.
“Yeah, cause that’s what he’s been doing all summer.”
“What?”
“Sit down John,” Mary said, tapping the table top beside her, “I need to talk to you. It’s about Dean.”
John frowned but took a seat.
“What about Dean? What’s he done?” John asked.
“It’s not what Deans done, it’s that pervert Castiel Novak that’s the problem.”
John sat in stunned silence as Mary told him all that she had discovered that day. He listened in disbelief as she recounted first her discussion with Dean and then her confrontation with Castiel. They argued back and forth about the right course of action to handle this discovery and John only just managed to convince Mary that a smear campaign against Novak, no matter what crimes she believed he had committed, would only backfire on them.
They were still discussing it when Dean slipped quietly into the house. It wasn’t until they heard him on the stairs that they realized he was home. They both stood to go after him but were met by Cassie at the kitchen door.
“Hello Mr. and Mrs. Winchester,” she greeted them.
“Cassie!” Mary exclaimed, surprised to see her son’s, apparent, ex-girlfriend. “What are you doing here?”
“Dean’s going to come and stay at my house for a few days. He thinks it might be best.”
“No! No, John, go and talk to him. Tell him that he’s not to leave this house!” Mary demanded, looking at her husband.
“No, Mary, I won’t be doing that. Dean’s an adult and has the right to make whatever decisions he wants.”
Mary’s face contorted with rage as she stood to her full height, nothing that could even come close to intimidating a man of John Winchester’s size, but the fury radiating off her was almost enough to have him backing down. Almost .
“Fine! Then I’ll go!”
“I don’t think that would be a good idea, Mrs Winchester,” Cassie interjected.
John’s hand shot out and grabbed Mary’s arm as she tried to leave the kitchen.
“Cassie, could you give us a minute?” He asked. Cassie nodded and retreated out of the room.
“Don’t do this Mary,” he growled at his wife.
“You can’t tell me you’re okay with this!” Mary snapped, pulling her arm from John’s grip.
“Of course I’m not okay with this! But when, if , this goes bad I want Dean to know he can come to us for support. That we will be here to help him through.” John hissed at his wife.
“Don’t be ridiculous, John, of course Dean knows that.” Mary scoffed with an eye roll.
“Really? Does he really? With the way you’ve been storming around making all kinds of threats?”
“I’m just trying to protect him!” Mary yelled back.
They heard Dean coming down the stairway and Mary tried to get past John.
“Move John, if you won’t stop him, then I will.”
John grabbed at Mary as she tried to push past him again.
“Leave him be Mary, this is his mistake to make,” he said.
“Not if I stop him.”
“Mary, I’m warning you now, if you try to interfere and I lose my son because of this, I will never forgive you!” John said with a firm grip on Mary’s arm and leaning close into her space. Mary blanched.
“You don’t mean that.”
“I do, Mary. I’m warning you, Dean needs our support right now, not some misguided campaign of hate!”
“He’s my son,” Mary pleaded, all the fight draining away.
“I know. He’s my son too, but we have to handle this sensitively. He has to come to us.”
They heard the front door open.
“Fine,” Mary agreed.
They rushed out of the house.
“Dean! Dean please?” Mary called out.
Dean stopped and turned to look at them. His face was a complete mask of misery.
“I can’t do this right now,” he almost pleaded.
“When you’re ready son,” John nodded.
Dean nodded back and walked to his car to put his bag in the back seat.
“Don’t worry, I’ll take care of him,” Cassie said.
“Thank you,” John replied.
§§§§§
Dean slipped into the house and made it up the stairs without encountering either parent. He went straight to the bathroom and grabbed his toothbrush before going back to his room. He grabbed a bag from his closet and began throwing in some bare essentials to see him through the next few days.
“What’s going on Dean?” Sam asked from the doorway.
“Nothin’ Sam. Don’t worry about it,” Dean said as he shoved some shirts into the bag.
“Nothing? Really. Cause mom and dad have been arguing all night and when I tried to go down for a drink they both yelled at me and told me to get back up here, and from the looks of it, you’re packing a bag. So don’t tell me nothin’s going on.”
Dean turned to look at his brother. His voice was wavering with fear, and he had his arms wrapped around his middle. Dean crossed the room and pulled his brother in for a quick hug.
“Are you leaving me Dean?” He asked, quietly reminding Dean of the time he went for his first sleep away school camp.
“No, Sam, I’m not.” He released his brother and went back to his bed. “Mom and dad are just pissed at me about a few things and I’m just going to stay with Cassie for a few days until they calm down,” he said as he added his deodorant and hair gel to the bag and zipped it up.
“Does this have anything to do with Mr. Novak?” Sam asked.
“Why?” Dean asked, watching Sam closely. “What did they say?”
“Nothing much, I just heard his name a few times.”
“Well you don’t have to worry about Cas, okay?” Dean said, putting a hand on his brother’s shoulder and looking him in the eye. “Whatever they might say about him, he’s a good guy.”
“Okay.” Sam nodded.
Dean nodded back and then hoisted his duffle onto his shoulder.
“I’ll see you in a few days, okay.”
“Okay,” Sam said as he followed Dean to the top of the stairs and watched his big brother descend.
Dean made it to the bottom and found Cassie waiting. She quirked her head in the direction of the kitchen. Dean nodded silently and opened the front door, slipping out into the night. He had almost made it to the gate when he heard his mothers voice. He turned back to face them, but suddenly felt too tired for another fight.
“I can’t do this right now,” he said, exhaustion weighing on him.
His father surprised him by just nodding.
“When you’re ready son.”
Dean felt a small amount of relief filter in amongst all that anxiety and turned to put his bag in the car. He could hear Cassie exchange a few words with his parents as he circled the car to get into the driver’s seat.
“Dean,” Cassie’s soft voice caught his attention and he looked up. She nodded to her left before she climbed into the passenger’s seat and closed her door. He turned to see Cas standing there, Clyde tugging on the leash in his hand. Dean was sure the look of heartbreak on Castiel’s face mirrored his own as he sent him a sad little smile then got into the car and drove away.
§§§§§
Castiel was left shaking after his encounter with Mary Winchester. He tried to concentrate on his work, but the fury churning in his stomach kept him distracted. He finally pushed away from his desk and made his way to the kitchen where he made himself a strong cup of coffee. He leaned against his counter as he sipped. He didn’t care about himself, although he was sickened by the allegations Dean’s mother had thrown at him, but more than that he was worried about Dean. Clearly there had been some kind of confrontation between mother and son, and he knew how much Dean loved his mom and craved her love and respect, of both parents actually. Selfishly, Cas was concerned that Dean hadn’t sought his comfort after their run in.
He wondered where Dean was now and if he was alone or upset or scared. He looked at his phone on the wall. He knew Dean had a cell, he even had his number. He fought with himself. Should he call him? Should he give Dean space? Cas knew that would be the unselfish choice, but he was feeling quite selfish at that moment. He needed to know Dean was alright. He needed to know Dean was still okay with their relationship, that he wasn’t regretting it, because no matter what happened, no matter what Mary Winchester did or said, Castiel himself would never regret the decision to take Dean as his lover.
Cas did cave sometime later and tried to contact Dean to no avail. He wasn’t surprised when he got no answer. Dean’s phone was always flat or, on the floor of his room, or in the glove compartment of his beloved Impala. When his call went through to voicemail, he hung up without leaving a message, hoping it was one of those reasons or the other. What would he say anyway? ‘Sorry your mom found out we were fucking’?
All he could do was hope Dean turned up for Clyde’s evening exercise and then maybe they could talk.
He tried to go back to work, accomplishing nothing until Clyde came sniffing around the door of his office, whining and scratching on his leg for attention. Cas was surprised to see how much time had passed, guess that was what happens when you got lost staring blankly out a window. Another more focused look showed him that the sun was going down and Dean hadn’t shown up for Clyde’s run.
“Guess it’s just going to be a good old fashioned stroll around the block, boy.” Cas sighed as he reached out and scratched behind Clyde’s ear. “I suppose I’m not the only one who appreciates Dean's stamina.”
With a rueful chuckle and another sigh, Cas stood and led Clyde out to the kitchen to find his leash and attached it to his dog’s collar.
He took Clyde in a different direction than they normally traveled hoping to skip the Winchester household, but in the end he knew it was useless and turned the corner and followed the sidewalk that would lead him past his young lover's home.
He felt his blackberry vibrate in his pocket and pulled it out hoping it might be Dean. Unfortunately it was just a notification of a new email. He looked back up when he heard Dean’s name being called and stopped dead in his tracks when he saw Dean standing in his front yard, a bag slung over his shoulder, with his parents and a young woman.
He could hear the murmur of voices but not the actual words and then Dean turned and walked to his car. The young woman said something to the Winchesters then followed. Castiel stayed rooted to his spot as he watched Dean throw his bag into the back of the Impala and walk around to the drivers side. His eyes flicked to the young woman who was looking in his direction. She gave him a nod then said something to get Dean’s attention before climbing into the passenger side.
Castiel’s heart split in two and his soul wept when Dean just gave him a broken smile then got into his car and drove away. He watched the taillights fade into the growing darkness and by the time a slamming door drew his attention, John Winchester was walking down the path towards him.
§§§§§
John watched his son climb into his car and drive away. He raised a hand and gave him a small wave, waiting until the car was out of sight. The last impression he wanted to give Dean was that of him turning his back.
“That motherfucker…”
His attention was drawn to Mary beside him and to where she was looking. John saw Castiel Novak standing in the glow of one of the street lamps that had flicked on to push away the growing darkness, watching their son drive away. Movement beside him drew his attention and he was only just fortunate enough to grab Mary by the arm as she stepped away from him towards the man.
“John, let me go!” She demanded in a hiss.
“Let me deal with him,” John replied.
“John no! He’s destroying our son!” She exclaimed.
“Please Mary. Let me.”
Mary glared at him for a moment then with a disgruntled huff she pulled her arm from John’s grip and stormed inside, slamming the door behind her.
John could see Novak watching him as he approached and to the man’s credit, he didn’t turn tail and run.
“Novak,” John addressed him as he came to a stop a few feet from the man who was apparently sleeping with his son.
“Mr. Winchester,” Castiel nodded back.
They stood in a tense silence for a few seconds.
“Do you love him?” John asked, never one to beat around the bush.
Castiel Novak opened his mouth to answer then hesitated.
“I don’t know. I care very deeply for Dean, but I can’t say with certainty that it’s love, though one day, yes, I’m certain I will,” he answered.
John hummed.
“Thank you for your honesty.” He stared at Castiel. “Dean starts college in a few weeks. I don’t want anything disrupting that. He’s worked hard to get where he is.”
“I know, and I want you to know that Dean’s education is very important to me,” Castiel said.
“Course.” John snorted. “Wouldn’t want to be with an uneducated bum now would you?”
Castiel blanched and frowned at John.
“I wouldn’t care if Dean was an engineer or a janitor! John, your son shines like a beacon, and it wouldn’t matter to me what he does with his life, I’d just be honored if he chose to spend it with me.”
“Glad to hear you say that, now hear me,” John said in a deep menacing voice as he crowded in on Castiel, standing to his full height. “I don’t necessarily agree with the choice Dean’s made here, but he is an adult and free to make it. I love my son and I will support him in whatever he chooses to do with his life, but let me warn you now, you hurt my son in any way…they will never find your body. Do I make myself clear?”
Cas backed away a step or two.
“Crystal. I promise you Mr. Winchester, I will do everything in my power to make Dean happy, for as long as he wants me.”
John nodded then held out his hand.
“I guess ‘John’ will be fine, given the circumstances.”
Castiel managed a small smile as he shook John’s hand.
“Thank you, John.”
“Anytime, Novak. And don’t worry about Mary, I’ll talk to her. She’s just trying to protect her child.”
“I understand,” Castiel looked off in the direction Dean had driven.
“Don’t worry about Dean either, Cassandra’s a nice girl. She’ll take care of him,” John said as he dropped a hand on Castiel's shoulder, “and if Dean really does love you, then you’ve got nothing to worry about. If I know anything about that boy, it’s that he’s loyal to a fault.”
Cas looked back at John and tried to decipher the look on the other man’s face. Was he smirking? Was it smugness or sympathy? In the end Cas just sighed and nodded again.
“Thank you, again.” Castiel smiled slightly. It wasn’t that he’s worried about Dean spending time with his former girlfriend, he was just worried about Dean , full stop.
Clyde chose that time to remind Castiel that he’d been waiting patiently for them to resume their walk and pulled at the leash in Cas’ hand causing him to lurch slightly.
“I guess I had better let you get along now,” John said once Cas had his dog back under control. “Just remember what I said, Novak. You treat my son like he’s the most precious thing on this planet, because to me, Mary and Sam, he is.”
“Understood.” Cas replied with a nod.
John just gave him a stern look then nodded once and turned to walk back to his home. Castiel watched for a beat then turned and headed back in the direction of his own house.
“Come on Clyde, let’s go.”
The dog took off in a lumbering gait and dragged Cas along behind him.
§§§§§
“How did it go?” Mary asked as John entered the kitchen.
“It went fine,” John replied as he walked to the refrigerator and opened it.
“Is he going to leave Dean alone?”
“Not exactly, but we came to an understanding,” John said, grabbing a beer and straightening up.
“What kind of an understanding?” Mary asked, folding her arms across her chest.
“I told him if he hurts Dean, they’d never find his body,” he replied as he leaned back against the counter and opened his beef.
“Idle threats aren’t going to save our son John!” Mary threw her hands in the air in frustration.
“They’re not idle threats, Mary. Remember I wasn’t ‘just a marine’,” John waved his can in her direction and pointed a finger at his wife.
Mary scoffed and pressed her fingers against her eyes.
“Again with the macho bullshit!” She dropped her hands and glared at her husband. “You were supposed to talk him out of it. You said you’d handle it!”
“Oh, like you did with Dean this afternoon?” He slammed his can down on the table. “You did such a great job with that!”
“What’s that supposed to mean?” Mary snapped back angrily.
“Our son moved out! He’s gone, all because you couldn’t think rationally for one minute!”
“I found out our son was gay and sleeping with the man around the corner all in one day! A man, who I might add, is almost old enough to be his father! How in the hell was I supposed to act?”
“You were supposed to be supportive, Mary! Hell, I found out our son was gay and sleeping with an older man and moving out all in one evening and you didn’t see me out there organizing a lynch mob!”
“This isn’t my fault John!” Mary snapped.
“The hell it isn’t!” John yelled back.
“Mom? Dad?”
Two sets of eyes swung across the room to see Sam standing in the doorway of the kitchen looking small and unsure.
“Sammy, what are you doing…” Mary began.
“What’s going on?” Sam interrupted her. “And don’t tell me it’s nothing. You two have been arguing all night and Deans gone and everyone’s treating me like I’m a little kid that has to be kept in the dark.”
“You’re right Sam, and we’re sorry,” John said walking around the table to put a hand on his son's shoulder for reassurance. “Dean and your… we are just having a bit of a difference of opinion right now and he’s going to stay with Cassie for a few days until we get it sorted out.”
“Is this because Dean likes boys?” Sam asked.
“How…why do you think that?” John asked.
Sam gave his father a wry look.
“Because I’m 14, not four and I know what ‘gay’ means, besides you two have been screaming about it for the last 20 minutes, so I think half the neighborhood knows by now too.”
“No, son it’s not,” John answered after Mary remained suspiciously quiet.
“It’s because he loves Mr. Novak, isn’t it?”
“You don’t need to worry about that, son,” John said.
“The hell I don’t!” Sam yelled, suddenly tearing himself away from under his fathers hand.
“Sam!” Mary admonished her son.
“No! No, ‘Sam’ ! Dean’s always been there for me! Whenever I had nightmares he’d let me sleep with him! Anytime I was sick, or scared, or being picked on, he’d be there to protect me and make me feel better! He would make sure I got afternoon snacks when you were working, he was the one to make sure I got all my stuff for school! He’s always been there and now he’s gone! And it’s all your fault! I don’t care who he loves, because I know he will always love me and now he’s not here for me to tell him that. He’s my brother, and now he’s the one who’s sad, and he’s not here for me to make him feel better and it’s all your fault, and I hate you!” Sam screamed at his mother before fleeing the room.
John and Mary listened to the sounds of their youngest son stamping up the stairs and slamming his bedroom door closed. John winced at a loud thump that sounded suspiciously like Sam’s bed hitting the wall as he threw himself on it. He looked back at his wife.
“Well, that went as well as the Hindenburg,” he said, before returning to his beer and taking a sip.
“That’s not even funny, John. A lot of people lost their lives in that,” Mary replied, pressing a hand to her forehead.
“Yeah, well. I’m losing my family,” John mumbled quietly as he took another drink.
He looked over at his wife in time to see her face crumble as she curled in on herself and began sobbing.
“Oh Mar,” he placed his can back on the counter and rushed over to his wife. “It’s okay, we’re gonna get through this,” he promised as he pulled her into his arms.
Mary shook her head against his chest.
“No, no, they’re gone. I’ve lost them both,” she cried as she collapsed down onto a nearby chair.
John crouched down in front of her and gently took her hands, rubbing his thumbs across her knuckles.
“No, you haven’t. I’ll admit this is a pretty shitty situation right now, but Dean will calm down and he’ll come home and Sam, well, he’s a teenager so he will come back out when he gets hungry, so in about 27 seconds.”
Mary tried to laugh at her husband's lame joke but instead just collapsed against his shoulder and cried.
§§§§§
Dean dejectedly followed Cassie through the door to one of the spare rooms.
“Are you hungry?” She asked.
Dean shook his head as he dropped his duffle on the bed, he sat down beside it and dropped his head into his hands.
“Thirsty?” Cassie offered. “We have beer.”
Dean gave a half-hearted chuckle.
“Getting drunk sounds good, but I don’t think it’s going to help anything,” he mumbled, still staring at the ground.
“Sooo. That’s a ‘no’?”
Dean looked up.
“Yeah, that’s a ‘no’.” He sighed and fell back across the bed. “God this is such a mess!”
He scrubbed his hands over his face then slapped them against the blankets under him.
Cassie sat beside him and carded her fingers through his hair.
“I know it is, but I promise, it will get better,” sse said.
“Will it?” Dean's eyes slid over to look at his former girlfriend.
“Yeah. Your dad surprised me. I heard what he said to your mom in the kitchen. He’s on your side, Dean.”
“So are they planning to salt and burn my corpse or just bury me in the woods?” Dean asked.
“Neither. He’s worried about you.”
“Sure, worried what the town will say when they find out his big, tough, baseball star son is banging some old dude,” Dean huffed.
“I’m serious, Dean.”
“How did this get so fucked up?” Dean asked, looking at Cassie.
Cassie sat back against the bed head.
“Talk to me dude.”
§§§§§
Cas had stopped tossing and turning and was just staring at his bedroom ceiling. He had tried to call Dean once more, and while it rang, his call had eventually gone to voicemail, again , so he hadn't bothered to try anymore. With a sigh, he rolled onto his side and stared at the wall. No answers appeared there to help him. Finally, he threw back the thin sheet and wandered out of his room with the intention of getting a glass of water. He walked up the short hallway to that kitchen, but paused just at the end when he heard his door open. A short gasp escaped him when he realized it was Dean walking through his front door. He stood quietly as Dean closed the door then finally, finally turned in his direction.
“Dean,” he whispered into the quiet room.
Dean looked in Castiel's direction.
“Oh, hey Cas, sorry, I didn’t mean to wake you,” he said, fiddling with the keys in his hands.
“No, you didn’t. I was already awake. What are you…I thought you were staying with your girlfriend?” Cas asked, trying his hardest not to sound jealous.
“Ex. Ex-girlfriend. I…we…we didn’t do anything, I promise. She’s just a friend now, and she,” Dean gave a one shoulder shrug, “she’s been helping me.”
“It’s okay, Dean, I trust you and I’m glad she was there to support you.”
“Yeah, Cassie's pretty cool like that.” Dean gave a little smile in the darkness.
Cas just nodded slowly.
“I tried to call.” He said.
“I know. My phone was flat.”
“Oh.”
“Hey, Cas? Can I…can I hug you?” Dean asked, sounding small and unsure.
Castiel's whole body relaxed. Tension he didn’t even realize he was carrying flying away.
“Of course.”
He held out his arms and Dean rushed into his embrace. Cas wrapped his arms around Dean and held him while he trembled in his arms.
“What am I gonna do, Cas?” Dean sobbed.
Cas couldn’t answer for Dean, but he knew what he should do. He should push the boy away from him, for that’s what he really was, just a boy. He should tell Dean that he had his whole life ahead of him, that he would go to college and make all new friends. Cas knew he should tell Dean that this affair between them is just a passing fancy and in time he will forget all about Cas and meet someone he will fall head over heels in love with and settle down and marry. Cas knew he should tell Dean all of this, but he knew he wouldn’t because he was selfish and wanted to keep Dean all to himself.
So he just held Dean tighter. “I don’t know, love, but we will figure it out.”
“Together?” Dean asked against Castiel's skin.
“Together,” Cas promised. “How about we take a seat on the couch and I’ll get you a cool drink?”
Dean shook his head and stood back from Cas.
“Can we…can we just go to bed?” He asked, still holding Castiel's hand. He looked at the uncertainty on Castiel's face. “Not for… that . I’m so tired and I just want to hold you.”
Cas smiled softly at Dean.
“Of course, love. Why don’t you go make yourself comfortable and I’ll get you some water?”
Dean nodded gratefully at Cas then walked past him towards the bedroom. Dean climbed into Cas’s bed, sheets warm from the heat of summer and Castiel’s body. He propped himself up against the pillows and waited for Cas to return. A minute later Cas walked in carrying two glasses of water.
“Here you go,” he said as he handed one to Dean.
“Thanks.”
Dean took the glass and sipped as Cas walked around and climbed in beside him. They drank in silence for a moment until Cas placed his glass down and leaned into Dean’s space. Dean placed his glass down on the nightstand beside him and opened his arms for Cas to snuggle against him. They got comfortable in the bed once Cas turned the bedside lamp off, and were silent in the darkness.
“I’m sorry I keep freaking out on you,” Dean said as he stared up at the dark ceiling.
“It’s okay. There is a lot going on for you right now,” Cas replied as he twisted Dean's necklace between his fingers. “Speaking of, I spoke with your father tonight.”
“It’s okay, sweetheart. I know where he puts the bodies,” Dean said as he squeezed Cas a little tighter in reassurance.
“Good to know. What’s also good for you to know is, he loves you very much and just wants what’s best for you.”
“Did he try to warn you off?” Dean asked.
“Not really, but I think it might be a good idea to talk to your parents again,” Cas suggested.
“Yeah, cause that worked so well today,” Dean scoffed.
“I know, but just think about it, please?”
“I really don’t wanna deal with any of this right now, Cas. I’m kinda tired, and I think I just wanna go to sleep now,” Dean said as he tried to pull away from Cas and roll over, but Cas held onto him.
“Of course; it’s late.” He rose up onto an elbow and kissed Dean on the cheek. “Go to sleep and we can worry about all of this in the morning.”
“Thanks, Cas.” Dean kissed Cas on the lips and then they both settled down for sleep.
As tired as Dean was, sleep took a long time to come, but thankfully, so did consciousness.
§§§§§
Dean was roused by Castiel's voice.
“Good morning, sunshine.”
Dean inhaled a deep breath and stretched as he blinked blearily around the room. A blurry Cas was standing by the bed holding something in his hands and the sun was streaming past the edges of the blinds on Castiel’s windows.
“Here, I made you coffee,” Cas said as he held out the mug in his hand.
Dean rubbed his eyes and pushed himself up in the bed until he was sitting steady enough to take the mug.
“Thanks babe, what time is it?” He asked before taking a sip of the coffee.
“Just after eight,” Cas replied as he sat on the edge of the bed. “I thought you could use the sleep in.”
“Mmm, thanks,” Dean mumbled as he closed his eyes and dropped his head, steaming his face with the coffee. “Just let me finish this and I’ll go walk Clyde.”
“I’ve already walked him.”
“You walked Clyde?” Dean asked, looking at Cas with raised eyebrows.
“Yes!” Cas replied, acting offended. “Although, I will admit, it wasn’t a very big walk, but I did promise him you would take him on an extra long run tonight.”
“Of course, you did.” Dean rolled his eyes in annoyance, but the grin on his lips betrayed him. “Come ‘ere.”
Dean reached out and pulled Cas in for a morning kiss.
“I’ll finish this then get up,” Dean said, raising his coffee a little.
“No rush,” Cas said.
“Can’t lay here all day, I’ve got things to do, people to see,” Dean replied.
“Are you sure?” Cas asked.
Dean stared down into his coffee as he swirled the dark liquid in the mug. He sighed.
“Yeah. Probably best not to put it off too long. Guess I just need to bite the bullet and get it over with.”
“You could put it off for a day or two. Wait until everyone’s calmed down a bit,” Castiel suggested.
“I could, but I doubt it will make much difference,” Dean said, glancing up at Cas.
“If you think that’s best.”
“I do,” Dean nodded. “Anyway, enough of this chick flick stuff. You’ve got work to do and I’ve got to go get my bag from Baby. Can’t have life changing conversations with my parents looking like a bum.”
Dean drained his mug and moved to get out of bed. Cas stood with him.
“Where is the Impala?” He asked.
“I parked her a few blocks down. I didn’t want to wake you. Figured I’d sleep on the couch if I had to,” Dean said with a one shouldered shrug.
“How very thoughtful of you,” Cas teased.
“That’s me. Mr thoughtful!”
Dean handed Cas his empty mug, snagged his keys from the bedside table, kissed Castiel on the cheek and headed out the door.
§§§§§
Dean drove the Impala back to Cas's house and parked her outside. He didn’t care about hiding anymore, as much as that still made him nervous after his mothers threats about bad mouthing Cas around town, why should he bother? He pulled his bag from the back seat and went back inside.
Cas was waiting for him in the kitchen of the open plan room and told Dean to help himself to some breakfast, but that he had to go to work. Dean dumped his bag near the entrance of the hallway then poked about the kitchen looking for food. He pulled out some granola and yogurt, screwing up his nose at the healthiness of it, but he couldn’t be bothered with frying up some bacon and eggs.
He sat on the sofa and flicked through the channels on the TV until he found something he wanted to watch. At just after nine he got called into work to cover a no-show, which suited Dean fine. Going to work would have many benefits, he’d earn some extra money and maybe, just maybe it would distract his brain from thinking about the inevitable confrontation with John and Mary.
Even though he had intended to go talk to his parents, he’d also forgotten it’s only Thursday, so his dad would be at work anyway, and there was no way Dean was talking to Mary alone.
After a quick shower, he dressed, then he stuck his head into Castiel's office and let him know he was going to work and would be back later. A quick kiss later and Dean was heading to the market.
§§§§§
“Honey! I’m home!” Dean called as he walked through Cas’ front door. Clyde came bounding up the hallway to greet him and Dean was desperately trying to keep his footing under the weight of the ginormous dog as Cas walked out of his office.
“Hello, Dean. How was work? Clyde down!” Cas grabbed at Clyde’s collar and pulled him off Dean.
“Okay, I guess. It was work after all,” Dean replied as he leaned down to pat Clyde on the head. “How about you?”
“It was work,” Cas agreed as he dragged Clyde away from the door.
“Yeah, but at least you're designing cool houses and stuff.” Dean said as he followed Cas and the dog. “All I do is stock shelves and carry little old ladies' groceries to their cars.”
Dean moved past Cas and headed to the pantry to get a cup of dog food for Clyde.
“We all have to start somewhere Dean,” Cas said. “I spent my summer before college working for a plumber digging sewer trenches.”
“Gross.” Dean screwed up his nose and passed the cup of food to Cas who tipped it into Clyde’s bowl, successfully distracting him.
“It was!” Cas agreed.
He dropped the empty cup on the nearby bench then turned and hugged Dean around the waist and kissed him quickly on the lips.
“Welcome home, Dean.”
“Hmmm, I like the sound of that.” Dean smiled as he wrapped his arms around Cas and rested his cheek on Cas’ shoulder. They stood quietly for a moment.
“Are you still planning on going to see your parents today?” Cas asked, shattering the peace.
“Yeah, about that.” Dean released Cas and stood back, holding him at arm's length. “There’s something I guess I should talk to you about first.”
Cas tilted his head and squinted at Dean.
“Is there a problem?”
“No! Nothing like that. It’s just after I talk to my parents, if things go sideways, and I know we’ve never discussed this, and I don’t want to just assume things,” Dean let go of Cas and walked past him as he rambled, hands flailing in the air.
“Dean,” Cas said gently and placed a hand on Dean's arm, drawing his attention. Dean turned to look at Cas. “What’s the matter, sweetheart?”
“Well, it’s just that.” Dean huffed out a small breath, then looked at Cas. “It’s just, if things go badly with mom and dad, like if they…can I stay here with you? It’s okay if you don’t want that or anything, but, you know, if you want me too, that would be cool. And I can sleep in the spare room if you want, or if not, I could probably ask Cassie or someone else…”
“No!”
Dean looked up at Cas, surprised.
“What?” His voice trembled.
“No, I mean, no, don’t ask Cassie. I would be more than honored for you to stay here, if that’s what you want,” Cas said softly.
“Good, that’s good. Thanks,” Dean rambled, nodding at Cas. “Because I’d like to stay here, for a while, if things, you know, go bad with… after…but it would only be for a little while. I’m going to college soon and I’m sure I could find someone to room with if I need to.”
“Dean.” Cas reached out and placed his hands on Dean’s arms and looked him in the eye. “What’s going on?”
Dean's face began to crumble and tears began to gather in his eyes.
“What if…what if they don’t love me anymore?” He asked, the tears slipping free and sliding down Dean's face. “What if they don’t want me in the house? What if I can’t see Sammy? What am I going to do?”
Cas moved his hands from Dean’s arms up to cup his face and stared intently into his eyes.
“Dean, if there is one thing I’m sure of, it’s that your parents love you very much. They will not throw you out. And I don’t think there is anything on this planet, including your parents that could keep you and Sam apart.”
Dean tried to speak, his mouth moved wordlessly so Cas took pity on him and wrapped an arm around his shoulder.
“Come on.”
This time they actually made it to the couch and Cas held Dean and comforted him and cursed himself, damning his own soul to hell for being a selfish coward and not setting the boy free.
§§§§§
All of Dean's words were gone. The whole eloquent speech he had been practicing all the way from Castiel's house to the Winchester family home vanished the moment he stepped into his parents' kitchen and saw his family sitting at the table finishing their meal. He drew a deep breath and opened his mouth, praying something semi intelligent would come tumbling out.
“I love Cas, and I’m not leaving him.”
Three startled faces turned in his direction, each with varying emotion. Dean was sure that despite his defiant stance, chin up, fists clenched at his side, his parents heard the quake of his voice and could see the tremble in his body.
Sam got out of his seat and ran to hug him.
“Dean! I’m so glad you’re back!” He exclaimed, wrapping his gangly arms around Dean's shoulders.
Dean gave Sam a smile and hugged him back. He looked at his parents and waited for their reaction. John nodded with a small smile while Mary sat looking at Dean with an expression Dean couldn’t decipher.
“Hi mom, dad,” he said.
“Hello son,” John replied, while Mary just pursed her lips slightly and tilted her head in a small nod.
“Sam, take your dessert and go finish it in your room. We need to have a talk with your brother,” she said.
“No.”
All eyes then swung in the younger boy's direction.
“I beg your pardon?” Mary asked sternly.
Sam lifted his chin in defiance.
“I said, no. I’m part of this family too and I’m sick of being kept in the dark about things ‘cause you think I’m a little kid. But I’m not a little kid anymore and I already know what you’re going to talk to him about anyways, and I don’t care if he likes boys. I don’t care if Dean’s homosexual…”
“Bisexual,” Dean said, interrupting Sam’s rant.
“What?” Sam looked up questioningly at his brother.
“Technically, I’m bisexual.”
“Oh, right.” Sam looked down for a second before glaring back at his parents. “Well, whatever sexual Dean decides to be, I don’t care. He’s my brother and I love him and…and if you throw him out, then I’m going too!” He finished, standing straight and moving closer to Dean.
“You’ll do nothing of the sort!” Mary snapped as she planted her hands on the table top and stood, sending her chair skipping backwards.
“No, Sammy!” Dean exclaimed, placing a hand on Sam’s shoulder.
“Alright, alright, everyone, let’s not get ahead of ourselves,” John said, standing and holding out his hands in a placating manner. He gently placed a hand on Mary’s shoulder and pulled her chair back in so she could sit. “I don’t think it’s going to come to that, no one’s going anywhere, so calm down and let’s all take a seat so we can discuss this rationally. That includes you, Sam.”
“Really?” Sam asked.
“Yes, and you’re right, this affects you too, so you deserve to be included in this discussion,” John said, silencing Mary when she began to protest.
They all took their seats around the table and settled into an uncomfortable silence. Sam shuffled his chair closer to Dean in a show of solidarity, and Dean was silently grateful.
“Okay, you said your piece, as short and to the point as it was, now I’m going to say mine. I’m going to be honest with you, Dean, and say I’m not happy with this situation. However ,” John said, raising a hand silencing any protest Dean was about to make. “It is not because Novak is a man. It’s because he is so much older than you. Like I said, I’m not happy about this situation, but I want you to be happy, and if Novak is who you need to be with to be happy right now, then I, we, support you,” John said, placing a hand over Mary’s. “This is your home, Dean, and you will always be welcome here, and we will be here for you whenever you’re ready to come home.”
“Thanks dad,” Dean said. “Look, I know you’re both worried and just trying to protect me, but you don’t need to. School is still my main focus. Getting my degree is my main priority, and Cas isn’t going to get in the way of that. He’s supporting me. I haven’t missed a training session or called out of a single shift from work since we started this thing. In fact, if anything, I’ve been working harder. Cas has been going over all my required pre-college reading with me.”
“He’s good to me, okay? He’s not forcing me to be with him. I can leave any time I want to, but I don’t want to. I like being with Cas. I love him and I’m pretty sure he feels the same way, so you don’t gotta worry about me. I know what I want out of life, and you just have to accept, mom , that Cas is one of those things.” Dean was mentally exhausted. This was the most he’d ever spoken about his feelings and he’d really like it if everyone could just put the whole situation to rest now.
Mary shifted uncomfortably in her chair before speaking to Dean.
“I know you think this is what you want, right now, Dean, but if you ever change your mind, we are here to support you,” she said with a tight smile on her face.
Dean supposed it should have been good enough. At least she wasn’t screaming at him about being a sinful abomination and going to hell, so it was a start right? But Dean being Dean couldn’t leave well enough alone.
“And what about now, mom ? What about now, while I’m actually in this relationship with Mr. Novak?” Dean asked, deliberately putting emphasis on Cas’s name. “Will you support me now? Or do you plan to continue your campaign of hate?”
“Dean, that’s enough. We said we support you,” John said.
“No dad, you said you support me. Mom said she’ll support me if I change my mind. So, which is it?” Dean turned to look at Mary.
Mary reached across the table and took one of Dean's hands in hers.
“I’m going to be perfectly honest with you now. I don’t approve of this situation. I do believe that Mr Novak is taking advantage of you. Of your youth and inexperience, but, for the sake of my family, and because I do love you Dean, with all my heart, I will… accept this for what it is. You say you love him and that he loves you back, and that what you have together is a ‘relationship’, then okay. I support you, but that doesn’t mean I have to like it. You are always welcome here. This is your home, and I want you back with us more than you’ll ever know, but to my shame I guess, it will be a while before I welcome him at my kitchen table.”
Dean felt as if he was vibrating in his skin with all his warring emotions. John had laid a supporting hand on Mary’s back, but his face wasn’t as clear. Dean could see pride there but underneath he knew his dad wasn’t happy with Mary’s speech. He felt the same. He felt relieved he had his fathers support, and was sure John would at least make an effort, but knowing his mom wasn’t even going to try was ripping his heart in two. He knew his father must have had some stern words with his mother for her slight change in attitude.
“What about you Sammy?” Dean asked, pulling his hands back from Mary’s. “You’ve been very quiet, surely you’ve got something to say?”
Dean looked down at his hands. He didn’t look at his brother. He didn’t want to see the look of disgust on his face, despite his earlier words. Out of all of them, Sam was the one whose approval meant the most. He was just a kid and Dean knew this could set him as a target for bullies. He was surprised when he was surrounded by two gangly arms pulling him in tight. Dean whipped his head up to look at Sam.
“I love you Dean, and I don’t care who you're with.”
Dean hugged Sam back as best he could with his brother's octopus arms wrapped around him.
“Thanks man, that means a lot,” Dean replied.
Sam released him and sat back in his seat.
“Besides, I think Mr. Novak is pretty cool. Hey! Now he’s your boyfriend, does that mean I can call him ‘Cas’? And do you think you can bring Clyde around sometimes? That would be cool too. That dog’s the dumbest!” Sam laughed.
Dean smiled at his brother.
“Yeah, he is pretty dumb. Just like someone else I know!” Dean laughed and ruffled Sam’s hair.
Sam grimaced and pushed him away.
“Get off, jerk!”
“Make me, bitch!”
Dean leaned over and used both his hands to mess Sam’s hair while his little brother fought him off.
“Okay boys, that’s enough. Settle down,” John admonished them, and they both stopped and sat back in their own seats.
When Dean looked over, Mary had a smile on her face. Something inside Dean settled at that.
“Okay, well, I think we have made some good progress here tonight, but I think we shouldn’t push our luck, so I'm gonna get going,” Dean said as he stood.
“You’re leaving?” Sam asked.
“Yeah, Sammy, I’m gonna go back to Cas’s. I gotta run Clyde anyways.” Dean said.
“You’re gonna come back though, right?” Sam asked, standing.
“Course I am. Just not yet.” Dean smiled and ruffled Sam’s hair just to be a big brother and annoy him.
Sam pushed Dean away.
“If you’re gonna keep doing that, then you can just stay away,” he grumbled.
“Aww, Sammy, you don’t mean that! But maybe you should get a haircut then I won’t want to do it,” Dean said, putting his brother in a headlock and really going to town on Sam’s hair. Sam struggled and tried to push Dean away.
“Stop it, jerk! Get off me! Mom! ” Sam yelled.
“Okay boys, enough. Dean stop terrorizing your brother,” Mary said as she rose from her seat.
“But that’s the whole reason you gave me a little brother, mom, so I'd stop terrorizing you,” Dean said as he released Sam from his grip.
“Your pits stink,” Sam grumbled as he fixed his hair.
“Aww Sammy, I love you too,” Dean replied, and for a second he could forget all the drama going on at that moment and just relax.
“I know you do,” Sam replied and hugged Dean again.
Dean could hear his father asking Sam to clear the table as he turned to face Mary.
“So, you’re going back to his place?” She asked.
“His name is Castiel, mom, you can use it.” Dean said, shoving his hands in his pockets.
“I know, just give me some time, okay?” Mary asked, her eyes pleading with Dean for understanding.
“Fine.” Dean nodded and hugged his mom. “I love you.”
“I love you too, Dean. Come home soon?” She asked as she hugged Dean back.
“I will.”
He kissed his mother on the cheek and stepped back to see his dad standing by Mary’s shoulder.
“Come on son, I’ll walk you out.” John nodded in the direction of the front door.
They walked silently through the lounge and stopped by the front entrance.
“Thanks for coming over tonight, son,” John said as they hovered by the door. “And don’t worry about your mom, she loves you and she’ll come around eventually. It’s just going to take some time.”
“I know, but this has been a good start, right?.”
John placed a firm hand on Dean's shoulder and looked him in the eye.
“You do know that when this gets out, people are going to talk, right?” He asked.
“I know.” Dean swallowed and looked back into the house towards where he could hear Sam and Mary doing the dishes. “I don’t care about me, I can take it. It’s Sam I’m worried about.”
“That’s because you’re a good brother, but don’t worry. We’ll protect him, and you.”
“Thanks, dad.”
Dean leaned in to hug his dad goodbye.
“We miss you, but come home when you’re ready,” John whispered into Dean's ear.
Dean stood back and nodded, not trusting his voice. He cleared his throat and scratched at the back of his neck.
“You better go and exercise that behemoth Novak calls a dog before it destroys something,” John said, giving Dean an out.
“Thanks, dad. Love you,” Dean said as he turned for the door.
“Love you too, son.”
§§§§§
Dean returned to Castiel's house and changed into his running gear, clipped the leash to Clyde’s collar and left again, promising Cas they would talk when he got back. He assured him that everything went as well as can be expected, but he just needed some time to process and running had always helped with that. He took Clyde on an extra long run, but as soon as he returned, he swept Cas up into his arms - his gross, sweaty arms, Cas all too willingly pointed out - and kissed him deeply before heading off to shower. Once he was all clean and wrapped just in a towel, he took Cas by the hand and led him to the bedroom.
Slipping into Cas that night brought Dean an overwhelming sense of peace.
“Are you sure?” Cas had asked when Dean lay him on the mattress and began worshiping his body. “It’s been an emotional day.”
Dean abandoned his position somewhere between Castiel's navel and hip and moved up so his body covered Cas’s and looked his lover in the eyes. He trailed his fingers down the side of Castiel’s face.
“I’m sure. I’ve never been more sure of anything.” Dean paused as his eyes searched Castiel's face. He must have found what he was looking for because he smiled softly then whispered, “I love you.”
If Dean’s proclamation of love surprised Cas at all, it didn’t show. He just smiled back and placed a hand on Dean's cheek.
“I love you too.”
They made love slowly, savoring every touch, every kiss, every moment together. It was different now that their secret was out. No more hiding, no more sneaking around. They didn’t have to rush just in case someone came knocking. Dean took his time as he thrust into Cas, Castiel’s name falling from his lips like a sigh. He burned the words ‘I love you’ into Cas’s flesh as he kissed along his neck. When they finally tumbled over into completion, their fingers entwined, bodies tangled together, Dean had never felt such peace.
§§§§§
Cleaned up and satisfied, Dean lay snuggled into Cas’s side with the older man’s arm wrapped around him as Cas sat propped up on some pillows, despite the heat.
“So, it really went okay then?” Cas asked after Dean had explained what happened at his parent's house.
“Yeah. It did. Sammy was fine with it all, but I guess we will have to wait and see what happens once he gets back to school,” Dean said as he played with the chain that hung around Castiel’s neck. “Dad was okay, I mean, he said he supported us, but he’s not too happy. Mom, well, mom said all the right stuff, but I could tell she didn’t really believe it. I’m guessing Dad warned her to keep the peace.”
“Your dad can be pretty convincing,” Cas said into the dark.
“Don’t worry Cas, I know where he dumps the bodies. There’s this jurisdictional dead zone in Idaho that comes in pretty useful.”
Cas sat up quickly, releasing his hold on Dean.
“Really?” He asked with wide eyes.
Dean chuckled as he pushed himself to sit.
“No, well, yes. The Zone of Death exists, but dad doesn’t use it. He prefers to bury them,” Dean teased.
“What!?”
“I'm kidding!” Dean said, finally putting Cas out of his misery. “Dad talks a big game, and I’m not saying he wouldn’t put some of the skills he learned in the military to use, but he loves us too much to risk going to jail for murder and leave us all alone.”
“Oh, right, good to know,” Cas said before he settled back against his pillows.
“You know what’s really dumb though?” Dean asked, twisting to look at Cas in the dim light of the room.
“What?” Cas asked as he relaxed back, putting one arm behind his head.
“This whole conversation would never have happened if you were a girl. They didn’t worry that me being with Cassie would affect my schooling. When I was sixteen and started dating, dad gave me “the talk”, handed me a box of condoms and that was that. Despite what they say, I know this is all because you’re a man.”
Cas let out a small sigh and placed a hand on Dean's upper arm.
“Dean, they’re your parents and they love you, so they have every right to be worried about you. They only want what’s best.”
“So, what are you saying? That I don’t know what’s best for me? That we should break up and end this? Call it quits just to make them happy?” Dean asked.
“Yes. That’s exactly what we should do.” A sliver of fear, cold as ice, cut through Dean's heart at Castiel's words. “But I don’t want to, Dean. I meant what I said earlier. I love you, and I know that’s selfish of me, but I do, and I don’t want to give up what we have. I’m not going to give you up.”
Cas’s thumb moved back and forth across Dean’s arm as he processed what Castiel was saying.
“It’s not selfish wanting to be with someone you love,” Dean said. “Especially if they want to be with you back.”
“That’s a beautiful sentiment, Dean. I’m going to put that on a mug,” Cas replied with a perfectly straight face.
“Add a rainbow and we can give it to mom for her birthday.”
Castiel couldn’t hold back a laugh as Dean snuggled back down into his side.
“I love you, Dean.”
“Love you too, Cas.”
§§§§§
The house was quiet and still when Dean entered, and as no one had come to greet him, he assumed it was also empty. Being that his Baby isn’t exactly silent, it wasn’t like he had been trying to sneak in anyway, so when none of his family materialized, he headed up the stairs to his room. He dropped his bag on his bed then flopped down onto his mattress, flat on his back and arms spread wide. He sighed then rolled over onto his stomach.
“Ah, I’ve missed you,” he mumbled into his covers. Unfortunately, knowing his mother will never agree to Cas staying overnight at the casa Winchester, Dean knew he will just have to get used to Castiel's bed.
After a few minutes he reluctantly climbed to his feet and put away his clothing. He hadn’t taken much with him so it didn’t take him very long, plus he had done some laundry during his few days at Castiel’s because he wasn’t a complete slob. And because he wasn’t a complete slob, Dean gathered up the few pieces of dirty laundry he did have and took them into the bathroom to drop them into the hamper.
He noticed it was getting kind of full so he dragged the whole thing down to the basement laundry and put on a load to wash. It probably wasn't a bad idea to try and get onto his moms good side by showing her he at least knew how to use the washer. Anything that would prove to Mary that Dean was mature enough to be in a relationship with someone fourteen years his senior couldn’t be bad, right?
§§§§§
Dean was making a sandwich a few hours later when Sam came bounding through the house as loud and uncoordinated as Clyde.
“Dean! You’re home!”
“‘Course I am. Told you I’d be back,” Dean chuckled as Sam wrapped his arms around him in a hug after unceremoniously dumping the grocery bags he was carrying on the floor.
“Sam, I hope you weren’t carrying my eggs,” Mary chastised as she entered the kitchen with her own burden.
Sam stepped away sheepishly. “I don’t think so, sorry mom.”
“Hi mom, are there any more bags?” Dean asked.
“No, thank you, Dean. This was all of it.”
It didn’t escape Dean's attention that Mary had used Dean's name instead of calling him sweetheart like she normally would have. He sighed a little internally, realizing it was going to take some time and work for him to get his mom's forgiveness, or acceptance, or whichever one it was he was striving for. Truth be told, right now he didn’t care for either. His mother’s issues with this whole situation were exactly that, her issues. Having said that, and not wanting to stir the pot, Dean abandoned his half made sandwich creation and set about helping put away the groceries in a silence that wasn’t entirely comfortable. He at least received a small smile and nod of acknowledgement for his efforts before his mom left the room and walked upstairs.
§§§§§
Dean had just texted Cas goodnight when there was a quiet knock on his door. He put down his phone and looked up in time to see the door open and Sam’s face peek through.
“Can I come in?” Sam asked.
“Yeah, of course,” Dean replied, sitting himself up against his pillows.
Sam stepped into the room and closed the door behind him before quickly moving to Dean’s bed and climbing in under the sheet, something he had only done about a half dozen times since he turned twelve.
“Thanks for coming home,” Sam said as he lay against the pillow.
“You already said that,” Dean replied, looking down at his brother.
“I know, but still,” Sam said with an awkward shrug.
“I was only gone four days.”
“I still missed you,” Sam admitted.
Dean sighed quietly and turned his lamp off. He moved down so he was laying on his back beside his brother with his hands folded over his stomach.
“So how was it here, really?” He asked into the darkness.
Sam moved onto his back and mirrored Dean’s position.
“It was weird. Mom and dad weren’t really fighting or anything, but anytime mom tried to bring up anything about you and Mr. Novak, dad would shut her down and say it was your decision.”
“Sorry I put you through that Sammy,” Dean said.
Sam shrugged again.
“Doesn’t matter. I think mom might calm down a bit now that you’re home.”
“Yeah, maybe.”
They lay, side by side, in silence for a moment or two.
“What’s it like?” Sam asked.
“What’s what like?”
“Being gay.”
Sam rolled onto his side so he could look at Dean.
“‘M not gay, Sam. I’m bi. I like chicks too, remember?”
“Fine,” Sam huffed and Dean could practically hear his eyes roll. “What’s it like being bi ?”
Dean turned his head so he could see Sam.
“Why? Are you questioning yourself?” Dean asked.
“What? No! I’m just wondering.”
Dean turned his head so he was staring at the ceiling again and thought about the question. He didn’t feel any different and told Sam such.
“I don’t know. I mean, kissing's the same. Cas’s lips are just as soft as Cassie’s or any of the other chicks I’ve kissed. I guess he’s bigger and has different parts, but otherwise, it doesn’t feel any different,” Dean tried to explain.
“Were you scared?”
“Not really, but I will admit I kinda freaked out a bit the first time we did anything. I had wanted it for so long, but when it happened I guess I was overwhelmed, but Cas was patient and kind and gave me the space I needed to sort myself out. This is what mom doesn’t understand. Cas gave me an out to leave and he would have respected that. He didn’t pursue me or groom me or anything like that. It just happened. And I’m glad it did.”
“Maybe you should tell mom that,” Sam suggested.
Dean scoffed.
“Yeah right. That’s just what mom wants to hear, a play by play of my sex life,” Dean replied.
Sam rolled over onto his side again and looked at Dean.
“Are you worried about what other people are going to say?”
“Kinda,” Dean admitted. “But it’s kind of a relief that it’s out there now and I can stop hiding who I am. I know there are gonna be more people like mom, but as long as you’re okay with it, you are okay with it, right?” Dean asked as he turned to look at Sam.
“‘Course I am. You’re my brother, and I’ll support you through anything.”
Dean smiled. Even at fourteen Sam was still innocent, yet mature beyond belief.
“Well then, as long as I’ve got you on my side, I don't care what anyone else thinks. And if anyone at school gives you a hard time, just let me know and I’ll show them what ‘fags’ are capable of.”
Dean knew that even though the world had improved for people like Cas and him, it still wasn’t perfect, and while he knew he could withstand the backlash, Dean would do just about everything in his power to protect Sammy.
§§§§§
The final few weeks of the summer break flew past and before anyone knew it, Sam and Dean were back at school. Dean walked into the kitchen after a late class halfway through the first week and found Mary cutting vegetables for dinner and his dad at the table reading the newspaper.
“Hey guys,” he said as he casually flung his backpack on a chair. “So, to celebrate my first week at college, Cas said he’d like to take us all out for dinner on Saturday,” he announced as he reached for a piece of carrot from the chopping board.
Mary glanced quickly at Dean before looking back at the food she was preparing.
“We don’t need handouts from the likes of him. We can pay for our own food, thank you very much,” she growled out, cutting a pepper more forcefully than needed and sending the pieces scattering across the board.
Dean froze where he was standing beside her, his mouth a gape and the forgotten piece of carrot hovering in midair. He heard the scraping of a chair somewhere behind him.
“What your mother means is,” John said as he crossed the small distance and placed a hand on Mary’s shoulder. “There are so many of us, and while it’s a thoughtful gesture, it wouldn’t be fair to expect Novak to pay for us all.”
Mary slammed the knife down on the counter.
“Don’t tell me what I mean, John Winchester!” She yelled and then stormed from the room.
“So, that would be a ‘no’ then?” Dean asked as they watched her leave.
§§§§§
Dean was sitting on his bed, flicking through a car magazine when he heard his door open. He looked up and saw his mother standing in the doorway.
“Mom.”
“Can I come in?” Mary asked.
“‘Course.” Dean put his magazine down and sat up straighter on the bed.
Mary closed the door and walked over to sit on the edge of the bed, facing Dean.
“What’s up?” Dean asked, forcing the lightness in his voice he certainly didn’t feel.
“I want to apologize for earlier. I shouldn’t have said what I said and…um, I’m trying Dean, I’m really trying. When you were born I had all these hopes and dreams for you. You’d grow up and you’d get married and have kids. But now.” Mary shrugged. She looked up at Dean with suspiciously bright eyes. “I’m worried you’re going to miss out and regret it later.”
“Thanks mom, but you don’t need to worry about that. I’m happy with Cas and I don’t see that changing anytime soon, and as for kids? You know, there’s adoption, or fostering or surrogacy, and that’s even if we decide we want kids. Or Sam can have a dozen and I’ll just be the cool, gay uncle who spoils them all rotten.” Dean said with a shrug and a smirk.
“I thought you were bi?” Mary said with a small smile.
Dean laughed.
“I love you mom,” he said as he hugged her.
“Love you too, sweetheart,” Mary said as she hugged him back.

Dean had done it. He had survived his first year of college and everything was going fine. His grades were good, his baseball team was doing well, sitting near the top of the league and even his mother’s attitude towards Cas was beginning to mellow. Not much, but it was there.
It had been a struggle at first, but Dean had managed to find a balance that worked for him and everyone else. Days where he had early morning classes he would spend the night before at home, days where his classes were scheduled for mid-morning or later, or where he didn’t have any at all, he would sleep at Cas’s house. Weekends were mostly spent with Castiel as well, except for Sunday nights where Dean would join the rest of the Winchesters for a family dinner. This arrangement seemed to keep his parents happy, and, Dean believed, helped a little towards Mary’s slight attitude adjustment towards their relationship. At least she was no longer actively trying to convince Dean to leave Cas, so that had to be a win right?
Dean also found time to spend with his friends, something Cas actively encouraged, not wanting him to isolate himself and to help relieve the stress of studying. Dean received a little bit of pushback over his relationship with Cas, but most of his friends had been okay with it, and Dean figured if anyone had a problem with it, then that was their problem, not Dean’s.
But now it was the summer break and time to relax, so Dean had spent the day at the lake with a few of his friends, just chilling, listening to music and having a few drinks. Not that they were of legal age, but someone always had a cooler older brother willing to buy them some six packs.
The sun began to dip down toward the horizon so they shook the sand from their towels and blankets, folded the chairs and picked up the coolers then loaded it all into the back of Garth’s mom’s station wagon that he had borrowed for the day. Dean and his friends piled in. Dean sent Cas a text, letting him know they were headed home and they took off down the dusty road that led away from the lake.
While Dean, Benny, Bess and Andrea all had a nice buzz going on, Garth was stone cold sober, electing not to drink so he could be their designated driver - and also his mom would kill him if anything happened to her car. That was the great thing about Garth, he was the kind of person who could have a good time without the need of outside stimulants. He was a genuinely great guy and everybody loved him, not that any of that mattered when an inattentive driver sped through a stop sign.

Cas was beginning to worry. Dean had messaged him over two hours ago saying they were on their way home. Even if they dropped the others off first he should have been home by now. He paced across his lounge room and back, chewing his thumb nail and staring at his phone. He knew he was being ridiculous. They probably just got caught up talking at one of his friend’s house, but something wasn’t sitting right with him. Finally relenting, he dialed Dean's cell. It rang out, eventually going to voicemail. He tried again and this time it was answered.
Relief ran down Castiel’s spine until the person on the other end identified themselves as a paramedic on the scene of a two car collision.
§§§§§
Cas sat beside Dean's bed, holding his young boyfriend's hand. The doctors told him it looked worse than it actually was. Cas wondered how that could be as he took in the sight of Dean lying unconscious, bruised and battered and wrapped in bandages. So for now he just sat and waited for Dean to wake up. He heard the curtain open and looked up to see a nurse entering Dean’s room.
“I just thought you’d like to know, Dean’s parents have arrived,” she said.
“Thank you.”
As soon as he had gotten off the phone with the paramedic, Cas had called Dean’s father. John and Mary had taken Sam to visit John’s mother in Lebanon and were over three hours away. Cas had no doubt they would be home much quicker than that, and would have been if not for the massive argument they had with Sam when they told him he would be staying with his grandmother.
Cas stood and leaned over Dean, placing a gentle kiss on his bandaged forehead.
“I’m just going to go out and talk to your parents, love. Someone will be back soon.”
With one last squeeze of Dean’s hand, Cas left the room and went in search of John and Mary.
§§§§§
When Cas entered the waiting room he saw John and Mary in a heated discussion with the nurse. He crossed over to the small group and greeted them.
“Hello John, Mary.”
“They wouldn’t let us in because they said he can only have one visitor at a time and you were there!” Mary snapped at him.
Cas could justify her anger. Dean was her son and she looked pale and shaken. The fear of not knowing how Dean was, not seeing him was perfectly understandable.
“I know, and I’m sorry. Have you seen the doctor yet?” He asked.
“No, we’ve only been here a few minutes,” John said, wrapping a tight arm around his wife and hugging her close.
“Okay, well here’s what I know so far. Dean’s stable. He has a fracture to his right arm and some of his ribs. There is quite a lot of bruising and he also took a knock to his head. There is a little bit of swelling, but they gave him some scans and they said it all looked good, no damage. He was conscious at the accident site, but they are keeping him sedated until the swelling goes down. All in all, the doctors are confident Dean will make a full recovery.”
Mary’s hand came up to cover her mouth.
“Oh my god.”
She turned into John’s chest and wept. Cas tentatively placed a hand on Mary’s shoulder in comfort and looked up to meet John’s eyes.
“Thank you,” John whispered, blinking rapidly to keep his own tears at bay.
They stood like that for a few minutes until Mary calmed. She pulled away from her husband and wiped her eyes and blew her nose on a tissue she had pulled from somewhere. ‘ A mother’s trick’, Castiel thought fondly.
“I’m going to go get some coffee. Mary, did you want to go sit with Dean and wait with him until he wakes up?” Cas asked.
Mary nodded as she took in a shaky breath.
Cas directed her to Dean’s room then went in search of coffee. By the time he detoured to the bathroom then returned with two coffees, thinking John might need one as well, he found Mary still in the waiting room. He sat beside her, leaving one chair between them, and waited in silence.
“John’s gone in first to check on Dean. He’ll be out in a minute,” Mary said as she stared at the door leading to the ward.
“Okay,” Cas replied.
He could see Mary struggling.
“Dean’s going to be okay. He’s strong and young, so he’s going to be okay,” Cas said, not sure who he was trying to reassure.
Mary nodded slowly.
“Thank you for being here today,” she said, finally.
“Of course.”
Mary shook her head and looked down at her feet, blinking against the tears.
“No, you don’t….” She cleared her throat and looked back at the doors. “Dean hates being sick and he hates being alone. Waking… waking up here especially, he wouldn’t like it, so I’m glad you were here for him.”
She sniffed and wiped away a tear.
“Which is why it should be you in there with him. You are Dean’s mother and you know how to care for him best. You will be who he needs when he wakes up,” Cas said gently as he placed a hand over one of Mary’s.
“Thank you.”
Just then John walked back through the doors looking pale and shaky, but relieved.
“Tomato and rice soup, that’s Dean’s comfort food,” Mary said, patting Castiel's hand before she stood and went to hug John.
It wasn’t much, but Cas would take it.
§§§§§
Dean's recovery was fairly straightforward. He was released from hospital a few days after the accident, having woken up later on that first day. There was quite a disagreement as to which home he was to go to for his convalescence. Dean had wanted to go to Cas’ house, but Mary was adamant he return to the Winchester home. Unfortunately for Dean, Cas agreed.
Between the fractured arm, his ribs and the head injury, as minor as it was, Dean wasn’t allowed to train or even run for the first week or so until the doctors cleared him fully, this led to a lot of tension in the house as Dean was very vocal about the lack of activity. Fortunately this also meant that Mary’s ‘anti-Cas’ campaign also seemed to be coming to a slow end.
Cas could hear Dean complaining even as he walked up the few front stairs to the Winchester porch. He knocked on the door and just a few seconds later a harried Mary pulled it open. Cas tightened his grip on Clyde’s leash as she greeted them.
“Oh thank god you’re here. He’s driving me nuts, you go take care of him!” Mary said, throwing a thumb over her shoulder. “Damn man child!” She muttered as she turned away from the door and walked back into the house,
Cas stared after her confused.
“Hello Mary?” He mumbled, then checked on Clyde before leading the dog into the house, not willing to risk leaving the Great Dane outside on his own - he was known to chew through his leashes when tied up.
Cas found Dean sprawled on the couch, shirtless, aimlessly flicking through the channels on the tv. There were a few empty dishes around him and some discarded magazines and books haphazardly dropped on the table and floor. Cas sighed and scowled at Dean.
“Oh, hi Cas,” Dean said looking up and lazily patting Clyde on the head when the dog nuzzled into Dean's hand.
“Dean, what’s all this?” Cas asked, waving a hand around at all the mess.
“Just set myself up a little nest, seeing as I can’t do anything because you and nurse Ratchett in there won't let me!” Dean grumbled.
“Well, you don’t need to be a slob, just because you can’t go for a run,” Cas said as he began picking up plates and cups, receiving a disgruntled woof from Clyde when he removed the plate the dog was sniffing at.
“But I’m bored , Cas!” Dean whined as he dropped his head to the back of the couch and looked up at Castiel with the most pitiful look he could muster.
Cas sighed again.
“Fine, you tidy these up,” he said pointing at the books and magazines “and I’ll take these to the kitchen. Then you can join Clyde and me for a walk.”
“Deal!” Dean answered with more enthusiasm than necessary. He dropped his feet to the floor and began to straighten up the books.
Cas gathered the rest of the plates and glasses and took them through to the kitchen, after giving Dean Clyde’s leash to hold so the dog didn’t wander off. He placed them on the counter and opened the dishwasher to begin to stack them in.
“Oh, you don’t need to worry about that Castiel,” Mary said with a wave of her hand.
“Are you sure?” He asked.
“Positive,” she replied.
“I thought Dean might like to join me as I walk Clyde this evening,” Cas said as Mary returned to her cooking.
“Oh, that would be amazing! I mean, I’m glad he’s okay, but he’s driving me out of my mind!”
Cas chuckled.
“I can only imagine.”
“I know. I know he’s hurt and we’re very lucky it wasn’t worse and we still have him, but he gets so bored so easily, and there isn’t even any school to distract him,” Mary said with all the self-deprecation of a mother whining about her kids. “I know I demanded he stay here to recuperate, but please, please Castiel, if you could just get him out of the house for an hour or so, I would really appreciate it.”
Cas was almost taken aback. This has been the most civil Mary Winchester had spoken to him in the last year, ever since she discovered his affair with her son.
“I’d be happy to, and I’m sure Dean’s ready for some fresh air and gentle exercise as well.”
“Thank you,” Mary said. Cas nodded and turned for the door. “Just remember what the doctor said about…um…you know…no, ah, vigorous activity? ”
Cas could have almost laughed at her discomfort, but chose not to say anything to disrupt this moment of truce.
“I remember, Mary. Don’t worry, we’ll go once around the park and straight back,” he promised.
“Well. Maybe not straight back? Dinner won’t be until 7:30, and…there will be plenty, so if you would like to join us? It won’t be anything special. John’s just going to grill some burgers and we have salad,” Mary said looking awkwardly at the wall to Castiel’s right.
“I’d like that, Mary. Thank you very much.” He smiled and left the room.
It was a shame that it took something like Dean being injured in a car accident for Mary and Cas to finally find some even ground, but Cas would take it.
§§§§§
“Brenda Wallace…Peter Walsh…Stephanie Waters…Veronica Weaver…Dylan White…Dean Winchester.”
Cas stood along with Sam, John and Mary, cheering and applauding loudly as, after five long years, Dean made his way up the stairs and across the stage. Cas leaned forward slightly and looked to his left then shared a small smile with Mary. His relationship with Dean's mother had evolved over the course of his and Dean's time together to a point they would consider themselves friendly, if not friends. Sam stood beside him on his immediate left, hooting and waving his fist in the air like he was a fourteen year old at a football game and not a college freshman at his brother's graduation. John finished off their little group at the far end of their line, standing proudly beside his wife and grinning as his first born collected his degree.
He finally quietened and sat back down and when the sun glistened off the ring on Dean's left hand as he pumped his fist in the air, Castiel took a moment to reflect on all the changes over the last half decade.
They had waited until the end of Dean's second year before they moved in together. Dean wanted to show his parents that he was as committed to his schooling as he was his relationship with Cas. It was Dean who had proposed during the winter break of his fourth year, though it was Castiel who insisted they wait until Dean had graduated before they actually got married. Dean had decided to go for his masters in structural engineering straight up, leaving an option for his PhD for later down the track, so Cas didn’t want any further stress on his shoulders with planning a wedding and they only had to wait another eighteen months, and after four years together it would be a walk in the park.
And now, after five long years of stress, Dean had finally earned his masters degree and had several job offers waiting for him. He had been approached by several minor league baseball teams as well, but Dean had turned those offers down. It was never about the sport for him. Baseball was just a means to an end, and now the end was here and they were ready for their new beginning.
§§§§§
“Don’t cum, don’t cum, don’t cum,” Dean chanted as he pounded into Castiel's ass.
“Are you talking to you or me?” Cas asked as he glanced over his shoulder. “‘Cause if you’re talking to me, I don’t think you’ve got anything to worry about with the way you’ve got me trussed up.”
Cas was referring to the thin silk rope that had been intricately woven around his cock and balls to delay his orgasm. This had been something they had been experimenting with for a few years. Nothing in-deep or extreme. It wasn’t going to be their lifestyle, but they figured it was a bit of fun occasionally.
That, and they now switched.
“I know baby, it’s just, it’s been a while and I’m a little worried I’m not gonna get my turn.” Dean said, slowing his pace and stroking a hand down Castiel's side.
“I understand, but your schoolings all done now, so you just take what you need and then it’s my turn to take care of you,” Cas answered.
It had been a while. Their sex life hadn’t diminished at all, but with the whirlwind of Dean’s final exams, graduation, a flurry of interviews, and the possibility of relocating, it had been reduced to sloppy hand jobs, hurried blowjobs and quick fucks. Finally they had time now to revel in each other’s bodies. To slow down and linger and enjoy their intimacy. Dean leaned over and wrapped his arms around Castiel’s waist and kissed his lover down his spine.
“I fucking love you, Castiel Novak,” he murmured between lovingly placed kisses.
Cas balanced on one arm and put the other on top of Deans wrapped around his middle.
“I love you too, Dean Winchester.”
Cas could feel the smile on Dean's face, curving against the skin of his back. Dean placed one last kiss, straightened up, allowing Cas to regain the use of his right arm for balance, then began increasing his pace. He thrust harder into Cas, faster and faster, letting his orgasm build from deep within him until he tipped over the edge and spilled into Cas.
Dean took a minute to get his breath back before he carefully pulled out and flopped down on the bed beside Cas.
“Holy crap, Cas, that was amazing,” Dean panted as he patted around on the bed next to him.
“Glad you enjoyed it. My turn now?”
“Just give me a sec and I’ll be right with you,” Dean replied.
“Getting out of shape, old man?” Cas teased, as he rolled onto his side to face Dean.
“Shut up, let’s see how you hold up, older man,” Dean grumbled as he held up Castiel's discarded butt plug. “In or out?”
“In. You know I don’t like to feel empty when I fuck you.”
Cas replaced his plug as Dean gave his cock a perfunctory clean with a wipe, then rolled over to kiss his fiancé.
“I love you Cas.”
“I love you too, Dean.”
Dean shuffled further up the bed, then rolled onto his back and spread his legs to give Cas access to his ass. Cas slowly ran a hand down Dean's torso before trailing his fingers across Dean's hip, bypassing his cock which was desperately trying to show interest in the current events, and slid his hand between Dean's legs to toy with the plug Dean was wearing down below. Cas gripped the base and gently rocked the plug in and out.
“Mmm, yeah Cas. Can’t wait for you to fuck me. Need you baby,” Dean moaned as Cas pulled the plug completely from Dean’s hole.
Cas placed the plug aside and slipped two fingers into Dean, scissoring them just to make sure Dean was good and ready for him. Dean whined about Cas teasing him, making Cas laugh and kiss Dean.
“I’m good baby, trust me. Do you need me to help with this?” Dean asked as he cupped Cas’s cock and toyed with the thin rope binding it and his balls. Cas nodded and Dean sat up and loosened the knots before removing the rope entirely. He lay back down and beckoned Cas to him. “Okay sweetheart, I’m all yours.”
Even though he knew Dean’s ass was already slick with the remainder of the lube from the plug, Cas added some more to his cock just to be certain and then slid home.
Cas began a slow rhythm, not wanting to rush the moment. Having already been close while Dean was railing him, Cas wanted to savor the feeling of Dean so tightly wrapped around him. It was almost like he had been molded to fit Cas and Cas alone. Dean moaned and sighed, still floating from his own orgasm, the pleasure extending with each and every thrust of Cas’ hard cock into him.
Being with Cas was amazing. It was something Dean still had yet to grow tired of even after five amazing years together and was something he hoped he never would.
Cas moved faster and faster, chasing his release and Dean felt his cock twitch with enthusiasm, but he was now mid twenties and no longer nineteen, so his cock could twitch all it wanted, but Dean was fairly certain a twitch would be all it accomplished.
“Okay, baby, come on, come on, come on. Fill me Cas, fucking fill me!” Dean begged.
“Oh, so now you want me to cum.” Cas panted into Dean's ear.
“Shut up and kiss me, asshole,” Dean chuckled as he clung to Cas.
“You…you want me to kiss your asshole?” Cas asked.
“Fuck you! Come here!”
Dean pulled Cas in and kissed him. They clung together until Cas came with a shudder.
Cas moved carefully to Dean’s side and snuggled up close. They lay together quietly lost in their own thoughts.
“You okay?” Cas asked.
“Yeah, it’s just funny to think that this is actually the last time we’ll do it in this bed,” Dean said with a sigh.
“I still remember the first time,” Cas said as he stroked patterns on Dean's bare chest as he cast his eyes around his bedroom.
Dean huffed a laugh.
“Me too, as much as sometimes I wished I didn’t.”
Cas looked up at Dean with a frown.
“You want to forget our first time together?”
“No! No, just my reaction after. Not my finest hour.” Dean admitted.
“No, it wasn’t, but it was perfectly understandable, and look at you now.” Cas said, laying his head back on Dean's chest.
“Yeah, look at me now.”
“How are you doing with all this?” Cas asked as he slid his hand under Dean’s and entwined their fingers.
“I’m good. How are you doing with it? After all, you're the one having to sell your house and move to a whole other state just for me and my new job.”
“Dean, I love you and I would follow you anywhere, but are you certain your parents aren’t going to suddenly move in next door?”
“Fairly certain. If they didn’t follow Sam to Cali, I don’t think they’re going to suddenly appear in Texas, besides, dad won’t admit this, but he’s kind of a Mama's boy so he won’t want to stray too far from nana Millie.”
Cas gave an exaggerated sigh of relief.
“Well that’s good to know.”
Dean jostled Cas slightly.
“I suppose we should get cleaned up and hit the hay. It’s a big day tomorrow.”
Cas sighed and rolled away from Dean to walk to the bathroom and begin the shower. They showered quickly and climbed back into bed, cuddling close. Despite the fact the moving truck was arriving at seven the next morning, both Cas and Dean stayed awake longer than they should have just savoring the last hours in the house they fell in love in.
