Finding a Way

Summary:

Prompt: White Hawk

Idea: Pidge, disguised as a white hawk and going by her real name Katie, finds herself stranded on an unnamed planet and does what she must to get home, even if that involves using a secret ability to steal.

Notes:

Some friends and I did some writing prompts together, in which we had about ten minutes to write something matching or incorporating the prompt. This was the first prompt we did.

Work Text:

The hawk soared through the sky, sharp eyes scanning the ground below. She flapped her wings to gain height and dived down with speed and grace. Her prey was walking along a hiking trail, blissfully unaware of the threat above them. The hawk couldn’t tell anything about them from this distance, but it didn’t matter. In one fluid motion, she snatched the person’s communicator and opened a portal leading back into the sky before they could even react.

Safe once more, the hawk landed in her nest and transformed into a human, leaving only her beautiful wings on her back. She picked up the communicator and began typing furiously. Katie knew that she only had a limited time before the item’s owner came looking for her. She found the info she needed and transformed once more, taking off and circling around.

Spotting the person once more, Katie dove at them again, this time dropping the communicator into a nearby bush. She opened another portal and teleported away, remaining unseen the whole time. She didn’t go back to her nest, however, but rather turned toward the north and flew over the trees until a large city came into view. Following the directions she looked up earlier, she found exactly what she was looking for. The spaceport!

Finding the ship that was headed for her desired destination, she slipped aboard, still in hawk form, and breathed a sigh of relief. At long last, Katie Holt was heading home.
