Chapter Text
Lyra walked into the cafe to find somebody new standing behind the counter. They had shoulder length, fluffy brown hair and were fairly short, at least compared to Lyra. Lyra walked up to the counter, and spoke to them, “I didn’t know Violet hired someone new.”
They looked up at them confused, “uhm- sorry, who? And who are you?”
“Violet? She’s the owner?”
“Oh, I didn’t know that.”
Lyra shrugged, “well as fairies we are wary of sharing our names.”
They looked Lyra up and down, “you’re a fairy too?”
They raised an eyebrow, “uhm, yes?” Realization washed over their face, as they reached for the horns on their head, “oh. Right, well I am half fae, half demon. I actually work here; I was just popping back into the fae realm for my aunt's wedding.”
“Oh, ok. Well- uhm- Violet… is in the back.”
“Great, thanks. Oh, what is your name? If you don’t mind me asking.”
“Oh, my name is JC, uh it stands for Jennifer Charles. And I use they/them pronouns.”
“Oh! Me too.” They said as they started walking to the back, “Well it is nice to meet you JC. And welcome to Cafae Latte.”
A couple months had passed since Lyra got back from their short vacation. It was fairly early in the morning and JC was setting out the baked goods they had made. The bell rang above the door as it opened. It was a woman with short fluffy ginger hair, matching wolf ears that peeked out of her hair, and light skin with a scar across her nose.
She walked up to the counter and greeted Lyra, “hi, Lyra.”
“Hi Kat! Two moonlight hangover cures?”
“Yes please.”
“Coming right up,” they put her order into the register. “That will be 10.97 please.”
She got her wallet out and handed them the money. “Here you go.”
Lyra reached for the money, not fully paying attention as they accidentally grazed her hand. Lyra’s cheeks flushed as they took the money, and got Kat’s change, “here’s your change. And I will get started on your drinks.”
Kat looked away, covering her blushing cheeks. “Thanks Lyra.”
Lyra turned swiftly to start making Kat’s drinks, taking a deep breath in the process to calm down. Their heart was beating quickly, they hadn’t felt like this in a long time. But Kat… she made them feel- feel like they could-
They shook their head, getting rid of their thoughts. Why would Kat even like them? What would she see in them? They took a calming breath, they didn’t need to think about this now. They were at work, and they couldn’t be distracted.
Lyra finished making her drinks and placed them on the counter, “here you go.”
“Thanks. I’ll- uhm- see you later.”
“Yeah- see you later.”
