Chapter Text
Remaining balance ¥3000
“Shit. How many more days until payday?”
It was late, he knew that. He wasn't stupid. He could clearly see the time showing him it was past midnight on his phone screen as he stared at the banking app, desperately hoping to whoever was out there that magically another zero, or two, would add itself to his remaining balance for the month. Ha! If he could ever be so lucky.
Life had had it out for him ever since he moved to the city. A crappy job, an even crappier apartment. He sighed, finally having to accept that no, more money wasn't going to magically appear in his account, and closed out of the app to come back to the wallpaper of his phone. It was late, he was fully aware of that fact, and he knew he should take advantage of having the night off and getting an early night, but who was he kidding. That wouldn't happen. It never did. No matter how much he tried to commit himself to an early night's sleep, something always kept him awake.
Tonight poison of choice was one he always faced. Money issues. Maybe it was all his own fault. Moving out with the bare minimum in savings, finding the first job he could, and refusing to even ever ask for any help from his parents due to his own stubbornness and pride. He was fine, he told them. He didn't want them to worry anymore than they already were. He was a good son like that.
Shifting off his bed, the frame creaked with his movements, foretelling a future in which the bed would definitely collapse underneath him one day, but today was not that day. Thankfully. A new bed was definitely not in the budget, and he wasn't sure how to explain that one to the landlord. Tragically he couldn't even blame it on some really good sex. The other side of his bed had been cold ever since he moved in. And at this point, that fact was more sad than anything else.
Truely, there was no better time like the present to eat his feelings away. Should he really go out and buy some snacks from the 24hr conbini? Not, probably not when his funds were already so low, but there was always something about the late hours and desperately craving a snack he never kept stocked in his cupboards. Desperate times and all that.
The sounds of heavy footsteps could be heard very quietly coming up from the stairs as he readied himself to leave the apartment, slipping on his shoes and grabbing his wallet in hopes of finding a few loose coins. All he could hope for now is that whoever was coming up wasnt going to be one of his weird upstairs neighbours.
“Shit!”
He heard the expletive before he recognised the voice, pulling his door shut behind him and just desperately hoping again a small easy to right accident had taken place; like someone propping their bag or tripping over their own foot.
“Please don't be dead!”
It wasn't a line that filled him with great confidence.
But what he didn’t expect to see as he rounded the corner to their stairs was to see Ara dragging a half unconscious man along with her as he struggled with her keys and unlocking the door. He stood and watched, feet stuck on the stop until she noticed him, her long hair falling over her shoulder as he shot him a look he couldn't quite figure out. Did she want help? No way. He was strict in his policy to not help out suspicious people, and whilst Ara wasn't exactly that, the man she was helping out was. Covered head to toe with his hood up that all Yasu caught a quick glimpse of was white hair before he turned back on his feet to head back into his apartment.
It was for the best. He couldn't afford the trip anyways. Snacks would just need to wait until payday, and until he had the nerve to step away from his apartment door he had hastily closed behind him and locked.
Damn his apartment building for being in an awful place. He missed home.
