Chapter Text
“Just pray that you’ll be born with a quirk in your next life and take a swan dive off the roof of the building!”
Izuku had no words, then again it's not like he usually did.
As Izuku was walking home after the long day he kept on thinking back on what Katsuki had said.“Just pray that you’ll be born with a quirk in your next life and take a swan dive off the roof of the building!” Usually Izuku hadn’t paid much attention to what he said because he had simply gotten used to it.
But for whatever the reason this time was different.
I mean it’s not like this was the first time he was told to go and die. Kacchan always made sure he knew it was always an option, he had even offered to give him a little boost off the edge a few times.
That’s when Izuku came to a halt.
He hadn't been paying all that much attention to his surroundings since he was too busy thinking about those words.
But when he finally looked up there it was, A sludge monster. No, not just that.
A villain.
Before Izuku even had time to turn around and run, the sludge villain had already lunged straight for him and began to wrap around him.
He could feel something go down his throat as he tried to scream for help. It didn’t matter who helped him, he just knew he needed it.
That’s when it happened. One second he was wrapped up in some type of sludge, The next, In a haze with a rather large man in front of him. As his eyes began to focus he realised who it was.
It was All Might! This was his chance to finally ask the question he dreamed of knowing the answer to since he was diagnosed as quirk-less.
“U-uhm A-all Might d-do you think m-maybe one day I too could be a h-hero even without a Q-quirk?”
That's all he could muster up the courage to say. Of course there was so much more he wanted to ask him, he was his favourite hero after all-
“No”
Izuku was left speechless. How was he supposed to stand there and take that for an answer? His Idol, The Number One Hero, The Symbol Of Peace, had just said he could never be a hero. Heroes were supposed to encourage people to follow their dreams, yet the number one couldn't even bother to do that. Before Izuku could even ask another question the ‘hero’ had stormed off leaving Izuku all alone.
“Why?” Why had All Might said that to him? Why had he just left him there without hardly saying anything? Why, just why had all that happened?
“He should've just left me to die instead…” Izuku had muttered under his breath as he began to continue his walk home.

Inko was quickly on her way home from the pharmacy due to realising she had forgotten a piece of her work uniform at home.
She was briefly stopped at a red light when all of the sudden there was a loud ruckus to her left.
All of the sudden Mt.Lady was there and had turned on her quirk. Simply forgetting about how old that building behind her truly was.
Inko had heard a scream and looked to the right for a brief moment. She saw people screaming and rushing out of their cars.
Next thing you know everything went black.
_______________
ringing sounds*
Izuku was confused. Why was somebody texting him? Perhaps it was his mother letting him know she'd be home late from the pharmacy. That’s when he froze.
It was the cops.
Izuku never did anything, he was a good kid. Did somebody from his class call the cops and say false things about him? It seemed like something they would do.
He answered anyway. It only seemed right.
“ Hello, is this the son of Midoriya Inko, Midoriya Izuku?”
“Uhm yes, this is Izuku.”
“We are very sorry to inform you that your mother has passed away due to a building collapsing on top of her car. The heroes made every attempt to save every single one of the citizens, But unfortunately it was too late to save your mother.”
Izuku froze. What had he meant too late? Did they even check if she was breathing? What if she was still breathing and they had just assumed she was already dead. The heroes and rescue team hadn't known her quirk, they shouldn't just assume things.
“Uh hey kid are you alright? You seem to be muttering quite a bit.”
“Ack! I'm so sorry, officer.”
“It's quite alright Midoriya you have nothing to be sorry for. Now we would like it if you could come to the police station please. We have looked into your file and saw that your mother was your only family, correct?”
“That is correct sir”
“Now because of that we will have to put you into a foster home. Are you fine to walk to the police station or do you need a ride?”
“No sir, I can walk there.”
“Good, now I trust you will actually make it here?”
“Yes officer.”
“Alright goodbye Midoriya.”
*Phone hangs up*
Izuku was unsure. Should he really go to the police station? At this point in time it only felt right to follow the words he had said earlier today.
“Just pray that you’ll be born with a quirk in your next life and take a swan dive off the roof of the building!”
Why couldn't he forget those words?
I mean.. A quirk did seem pretty nice to have..right?
He began to swap directions. He never did tell the police how far away he was, just that he could walk there. And really anything was walking distance if you had the time. Izuku had the time before, but now he certainly had the time. Having nothing to go home to at the end of the day certainly helped a lot he thought.
He began to mutter to himself “There should be a bridge big enough around here somewhere”
And he was right of course, he almost always was, people just never listened to him.
Now the only problem with this bridge was the fact it wasn't all too far out from the rest of Musutafu. But he figured it shouldn't be a problem, especially since there was an attack not that long ago. So logically everyone should be inside their houses or at work.
He began nearing the bridge. It was a fairly nice day out. ‘Perfect for dying.’ He thought to himself. He climbed up the ledge and looked down. It really was a long way down, longer than he remembered.
‘You can do this, just fall off and it will all be over in seconds.’ As he thought this he began to contemplate, ‘what if he just went backwards?’ Truly it wasn't a bad idea, He wouldn't see the ground. Just the sky. The same sky his mother was now in.
He could be with her again. She wouldn't be happy of course but it's better being up there than down here. Unless he was put in hell. He was quirkless after all.
He had to stop thinking so much. He was already on the ledge anyways. Suddenly he didn't quite feel as nervous, he was ready.
Next thing you know he was off the ledge heading down, fast. When all of a sudden something, no Someone had caught his eye.
It was all a blur, he was gaining too much momentum to see who it was. He just prayed their quirk wasn't able to save him.

There were Reporters, Cops, Heroes, and Rescue Teams all going around frantically. Although many reports stayed around him to know what had truly just happened. They wanted to know his side of the story after all, He was the one the sludge villain attacked.
Kastuki wanted to get out of here, he wanted to get away from everyone, he wanted peace and quiet. And so he opted for the long route home.
He was just passing the bridge when someone had caught his eye.
It was Deku, The stupid quirk-less nobody.
But he didn't understand? Why was he standing on the ledge-
He was going to jump.
Why? Why had he actually listened? It's not like this was the first time. In Fact this was a regular thing that tended to happen almost once a week.
Before he could even continue his thought process the boy had already turned around and plummeted towards the ground.
He had no time to think, all he knew was that he had started running towards the ledge. But really what could he do in this situation? What could his quirk do? Why was it so fucking useless. How was he supposed to be a hero if he couldn't even save this one person? This one person who was falling to his death right in front of him.
He was far from a saviour. In fact he was the one at fault. And his punishment would be having to watch and be able to do absolutely nothing. Nobody would make it here in-time. Especially not for a Quirk-less nobody.
Thuds and cracks heard*
Katsuki didn't know what to do. He just pulled out his phone and started to dial the police department.
By the time Katsuki had made it down to the river the crashing waves had already pulled his body into the water leaving nothing but a mere pile of blood on the rocks.
Katsuki just stood there. Unsure what to make of what had just happened. Pretty soon the cops and ambulance had arrived and began asking questions. The water was too rough for a search team, and if the fall didn't magically take Izuku out the waves sure as hell would have.
Next thing you know he was asked a bunch of questions and he couldn't remember the answer he gave to any of them.
It was only a few minutes later that his mother had come to pick him up, tears in her eyes. Katsuki figured she must have known what had happened by now but he was proved wrong when the cop had started talking.
“Ma'am, your son here has just witnessed a very traumatic event. One of his classmates, Izuku Midoriya, has just taken his life and your poor son had to watch it all unravel.”
Mitsuki had just begun to cry even more, yet began talking in desperate breaths.
“Hi-his M-mother..” She was gasping for air but Katsuki knew she wasn't going to stop until the police officer knew more.
“S-she d-d-died to-day t-too, s-she wa-was also a-part o-of the sl-sludge a-attack.” At this point she was wheezing and gasping for air. Meanwhile Katsuki was stunned. He knew two people had died when the old building collapsed but he never expected one of those people to be Deku's mother.
Maybe it wasn't his fault after all.
No no no he was being selfish. Of course it was his fault he probably bullied him the most anyways. He just couldn't stand it when someone was better than him. Especially if they happened to be quirk-less.
Everyone slowly began to pack up and leave the bridge. They said they had questioned them enough and they could go home. Kastuki was upset. He was glad he could go home.

All of the sudden he was up again. Thoughts rushing into his brain…What had happened? Why was he shaking and covered in dirt and dried blood? His eyes then began to take in the light and his ears took in the noise. Where was he?
Where was his mom?
Oh.
Oh.
That's right. She was dead. But wasn't he supposed to be as well? He had to think back for a moment to try to remember. Somebody had seen him die. So it was very obvious the world thought he was dead too.
But his mind kept bringing him back to the person who saw him fall. It was all a blur but he was trying to remember more evident details.
They had the build of a boy middle schooler, or possibly someone in their 1st year of high-school? He wasn't sure, but he did remember their hair. It had a spiky shape with a beige colour to it. Now where had he seen that type of hair before?
Kacchan.
Why hasn't he realised sooner? It was almost way too obvious.
But why was he there? Kacchan had better places to be than a bridge? It made absolutely no sense to him. Couldn't he have just taken his normal route home?
‘Whatever, It doesn’t matter, He watched me die’ He thought.
Something didn't feel right. Why was he struggling to speak? Why could he only think of what he wanted to say? Did he damage a vocal cord on the way down? Why was nothing else damaged-
Yeah? Why was nothing else damaged? Surely that bridge would have killed him. He didn't have a quirk anyways so he probably would have died much quicker.
Wait, A quirk? Was it possible he was falsely diagnosed and actually had a quirk of his own? It was an extremely rare possibility for this to happen, but never impossible. I mean it had happened to a few people in the past. But still.. A quirk to bring you back to life?
He should check and see if it is a quirk. It would be a win-win situation anyways. He wanted to die but he also wanted a quirk. Without the quirk he dies- A win - With the quirk he won't die as long as it's the type of quirk he’s thinking of. - Another win in his books.
He looked to his left. Then his right with a panic-stricken gaze. He needed his phone, He needed to know the time. He needed to know how long he was out for.
He looked around again this time much calmer, that’s when he saw it. His backpack was covered in dirt almost blending in if it wasn't for the patches of yellow sticking out.
He began to frantically search his bag when he finally found his phone. All that money put into phone cases to protect it from Kacchan came in handy. His phone had no damage done to it. It was Sunday, he’s been out since Wednesday. Now that he knew the date, he needed to know if he had money in his account.
‘Luckily for me, my mother set it up so that as soon as she died, The money would go straight to me with no complications. Word must not have gotten out to all of the public that I was ‘dead’ yet.’ He considered. That did seem logical to him.
Now it was up to him to make sure he made it to an ATM before his bank made it to the news.
He quickly cleaned up as best as he could, getting as much dirt and blood off as possible. Lucky for him the blood was more crusted on him than just soaked up in his clothes.
Once he was more clean he pulled his hood up and ventured to the ATM’s at the mall. He figured it was the best place to go because it's crowded and nobody would really notice him.
It was a quick trip, In and out with no complications. Only problem now was he probably had no place to go and a bag full of money.
So he quickly found an alleyway and pulled out his phone to look for the cheapest apartments possible. The longer he could stay in an apartment the better. And the inside quality wasn't going to be a problem for him as long as it did not collapse. He really couldn't deal with a building collapsing on him, Not after everything.
After a few minutes of searching he found an apartment. It wasn't anything special but it was stable and had been on the market for a while, meaning it was going to be pretty cheap.
He quickly called the owner to ask if he could get a room. And sure enough, the owner was more than willing, not even caring that the one who wanted said room was just a teenager.
After many, many long hours of paperwork for the apartment it was ready for him. And surprisingly enough it was fairly spacious for one person, had a bathroom, living room, kitchen, bedroom and a small balcony going out from the living room. The price for the place was really affordable so overall Izuku felt pretty good about his new living area.
Of course that joy came to a sudden stop when he realized he had no food, and no clean clothes.
He was still shaking non-stop. A headache was even beginning to form.
If he had a quirk, where these the drawbacks??
Before he could test out his theories he absolutely needed food. So he had ordered someone to door-dash food and clothes for him. He decided it was best for him to take a shower before it all got here. He was given a complimentary basket for buying the apartment which was filled with mostly toiletries. So he grabbed them out and took a shower.
His order wasn't quite here yet when he was out of the shower so he just had to wrap up in the gift basket towel and wait for the clothes and food.
Not long later the door-dasher came here and dropped everything off and left.
Izuku stared at everything before quickly digging into the food, not even worrying about putting on his new clothes. He just stayed wrapped up in his towel as he ate everything up.
He may have felt dejected, but at least he felt free from the world he once knew.
