Chapter Text
Namjoon is waiting at the bar for his drink.
He’s watching as the bartender pulls him a whisky, brownish liquor cascading onto cubed ice, before the glass gets pushed towards him unceremoniously. It’s a Saturday night, after all.
When getting out of the house, Namjoon had let his feet bring him where they wanted to without much thought, so, when he ended up in front of his usual bar, Namjoon just shrugged and got inside, hoping for a fun night, one that would pick him up a little.
He’s surrounded by people wearing cowboy hats and flannel shirts, a clear indicator that he stumbled across a themed night without really meaning to and without the appropriate dress code.
Not that it really matters; his outfits could get him mistaken for a cowboy any day of the week, and tonight is no exception. After all, he’s wearing jeans and a half-opened white button-up. If he was wearing cowboy boots as well, he’s sure no one would bat an eye at how he's dressed tonight.
What usually serves as a dance floor, where people dance to pop music pressed against each other, tonight is a clear space with multiple people lined up in rows, dancing in synch to country music.
There are only girls in front of him line dancing—all except for one.
There’s a man on the far left who immediately catches Namjoon’s attention. He’s dancing like he has been doing that his entire life, following every step with ease and never losing the right rhythm even once.
Namjoon is fascinated from the get-go.
He can’t help but stare at the man, at the way he uses his cowboy hat as if it was part of the choreography, at how his jeans hug his legs in the perfect way, at the shirt that slightly rises up with each movement, exposing part of his stomach.
Namjoon isn’t sure what it is about the other man, but he can’t look away.
He probably stares for a little too long because the stranger catches him red-handed, looking at Namjoon right in the eyes and maintaining his gaze before he dips his hat towards him as a way to say hi.
Namjoon doesn’t have to think twice before returning the gesture.
It’s only when the stranger starts coming closer towards him that Namjoon notices what’s written on his t-shirt.
Save a horse, ride a cowboy.
Namjoon can’t help the snicker that comes out of his mouth while reading the phrase. Considering the way the stranger is looking at him with dark and hungry eyes and what’s written on his shirt, hopefully, Namjoon’s plan of having a fun night will be successful.
Once the stranger finally reaches him, Namjoon immediately opens his legs to make space for the other man, a gesture that gets approved if the way the stranger presses against him is anything to go by.
“I’m Hoseok.”
“Namjoon.”
Hoseok smiles at him while stealing his drink right from his hand and taking a sip. Once he’s done, Hoseok’s eyes are back on Namjoon, and his heart-shaped smile is on full show, making Namjoon even more enamoured than he already was.
“Are you the cowboy in question, or are you gonna be the one riding tonight?”
Namjoon can’t stop the question from slipping out of his mouth, bolder than he usually is, but Hoseok just looks down at his shirt for a moment before giggling and actually answering him and, right then, Namjoon knows he just won the lottery.
“You decide.”
