Chapter Text
Year 2189.
A green haired boy sat in his class, busying himself in a notebook making sketches when the teacher opened the door.
The teacher, a Mr. Yami, the class’s homeroom teacher, entered the class holding a stack of papers under his arm.
“Alright class settle down!” He tells the class as he places the papers on the teachers table. “I’ve got something to discuss with all of you.” He tells them.
The class takes a minute to settle down and quiet down as they all turn their attention to their teacher.
“Now as per school rules, I’m supposed to give you all some career counselling forms,” He points to the papers on his desk. “But we all know that you all want to be heroes!” The class erupts into a cheer with every student suddenly activating their quirks, trying to show off.
“Don’t lump these extras with me Teach!!” A blonde boy says, his legs up on the desk and his hands behind his head, a smirk on his face.
“Shut up Bakugou!!” One of the students in the class yells. Izuku simply rolls his eyes, turning back to his notebook.
“OH please, you really think any of you are better than me?” Bakugou yells, swinging his feet down from the desk and climbing on top of it. “You extras would be lucky to get a job as a sidekick for some low ranking hero!” He mocks them. “I’ve gotten the highest in the mock exams for UA and I already know that I’ll make it into UA and from there, I’ll be the Number One hero faster than you guys can get to the top 50!”
“I must say, Bakugou, occasional brash behavior aside, your scores are pretty exemplary. I’ve got no doubts that you’ll get into UA with ease.” Mr. Yami compliments Bakugou, stroking his ego further. “Speaking of UA, I’ve heard that Midoriya Izuku has also applied to UA.”
“I bet he’d be able to get in.” A student comments. “Have you seen him train at the beach?”
“Yeah! I was buying groceries yesterday and saw him throwing some punches in the air. I swear to god that sand was blowing like 5 meters away from him.” Another says.
“I’ve even seen him pick up trashed refrigerators and toss them across the beach.” A third one says, a girl. “It was amazing!!! He’s jacked under all those baggy clothes.”
“If you guys are done gossiping about me right to my face, then have the guts to at least be loud enough for everyone.” Izuku tells the two boys, not looking up from his work. “And Mr. Yami, can we please continue the class?” He asks the teacher. “I’d rather not have my life choices be discussed in the class.”
“Oii Deku.” Bakugou says. “You better pass those exams. I can’t wait to fight you properly!”
“I’ve told you this before and I’m telling you this again. I’m attending only the General Course. I have no interest in being a hero. Mom’s made that rather clear. And I’d rather not anger her.” Izuku tells the boy. “Besides, the hero laws are bullshit anyway. There’s no way for heroes to be effective with them in place.”
“So what? You plan on changing them?” A student asks him.
“That is the plan Akira.” Izuku answers. “Make changes in the laws and society from the inside so the world doesn’t need heroes for the small stuff.”
“We are going to have a chat about that later.” Bakugou tells him as he sits properly on his seat.
“Right… now that everyone’s a bit calmer, I guess we can start our lesson for today.” Mr. Yami says as he opens a presentation on the smart board.
Later that day, after the final bell had rung.
“Oii Deku! Wait up.” Bakugou exclaims.
“What is it, Katsuki?” Izuku sighs.
“UA. You never told me about the General Course thing.” Bakugou says.
“It never came up.” Izuku answers.
“Why though? You’ve got the perfect… abilities for being a hero.” Bakugou asks him. “And you know that’s a compliment when it comes from me.” He adds, a smirk on his face as the two boys walk out of the school.
“That first statement of yours should give you the answer.” Izuku responds. “My powers are abilities not a quirk.” He whispers. “It would be hard to hide them from an entire school if I were in Heroics. Being in the general course would allow me to continue with the status quo and work on the other aspects of Heroics that are a problem on the side as well. And I know for a fact that Chimera needs another set of hands at least for his work on the side. If I were to become a hero, it would cause… issues with my plans.”
“So you’re just going to continue being Ultra then?” Bakugou whispers to him.
“Yes. That seems to be the best option. Most of the heroes that are UA staff already have a hunch and knowing Mr. Yagi, he’ll working something out with the principal to let me continue as Ultra.” Izuku answers. “Besides, being Ultra is better than the Hero course. I won’t have to worry about mom being disappointed at me. You know what she thinks about being a hero right.”
“Right… I forgot about that.” Bakugou sighs. “But if you do get into the general course, we’re still keeping our training going. Deal?”
“Sure. I don’t see how that’ll ever cause problems.” Izuku answers as they stop at an intersection.
“I’ll see you later then. I’m going to hang with Fingers and Eyes in the arcade.” Bakugou tells Izuku.
“Alright.” Izuku answers as the two boys walk down separate paths.
Not long after Izuku had separated from Bakugou, he walked through the underpass, stopping to have some water when he heard the man hole cover open nearby.
“A medium sized suit for me to hide under! Perfect!!” a voice says from behind. Izuku turns to see a green slime-sludge villain towering over him.
Izuku sighs as the villain lunges at him, trying to grab him. He leaps away from the villain.
“Don’t run from me!!! I just want you to help me.” It tells Izuku as it tries to lung at Izuku again.
Izuku looks around. ‘Slime villain… which means he won’t feel much pain if I hit the right spot on his body…’ He turns to the villains. ‘Since no one’s here there won’t be any witnesses, so, I probably won’t fall in trouble for this.’ He thinks to himself as he rears his right hand back for a punch and punches the villain’s head, with enough force to cause the villain to splatter.
“Shit. I tried to avoid this. But controlling my powers as become harder recently. Without the suit it’s hard to control the output…” Izuku mutters to himself as walks to the dustbin to find something he could use to store the villain in.
“That was quite the punch young man.” A voice booms as All Might, the number 1 hero of Japan leaps out of the sewers.
‘Shit.’ Izuku mutters to himself. He turns around to see All Might standing in front of an open manhole. “I-I’m sorry for interfering with your pursuit of the villain sir. I didn’t know you were following him. He attacked me and I acted on instinct. It was self-defence. I’m sorry.” He exclaims, bowing in apology to the hero.
“It’s quite alright young man. You did what you had to. It was an act of self-defence.” All Might tells him as he helps the boy put the villain into a plastic bottle that he had picked up from the trash. “Though I would suggest you tone your strength down a little bit. Like just a smidge.”
“I’ve been trying to learn finer control but it’s been impossible for me to do that.” Izuku answers. “My trainer has been trying to teach me using eggs but I keep cracking all of them during the exercise.” He sighs.
“Do you at least save the insides for some scrambled egg afterwards?” All Might jokes as he looks around.
“No one’s here. I checked.” Izuku tells the pro hero.
“Good. Cuz I was almost out of time there.” The man says as steam starts to appear from his body as it shrivels down. A frail man now stood where All Might once was. “Now, how’s your progress with everything?” The man asks him, making casual conversation with the boy.
“It’s been decent. I finally got control over flight, including all the complex manoeuvres, aside from changing directions on a dime. It’s a work in progress.” Izuku answers as he picks up the final piece of the villain, puts it in the bottle and caps it.
“Want to come hand this guy over to the Police? We can go home after that.” All Might suggests.
“Sure. I don’t see why not. Mom’s asked me to get some groceries too on my way back so we’ll have to stop by the supermarket for some stuff.” Izuku tells the hero.
“Sure.” The man answers as the duo walk over to the main area of the city, heading towards the Police Station first to place the villain in custody. “So, how was school?”
“Same old. Same old. It’s boring when you know stuff that is way ahead of what is being taught.” Izuku sighs. “At times I wish I could simply ask the teachers to let me teach because they’re really bad at time. I mean how hard is it to properly explain a simple topic like projectile motion?”
“All schools are like that. To some extent at least.” The man says.
“How was your day Mr. Yagi?” Izuku asks the man.
“Ehh… With three hours on the clock, I can’t really do much. I make a few public appearances here and there, stop a few thugs along the way and help a few old ladies cross the road.” Yagi answers.
“You mean help a few ladies your age cross the road?” Izuku jokes.
“Very funny. I’ll have you know that I am 56. I am not that old alright.” Yagi tells him.
“Sure, old man.” Izuku answers, a smile on his face as the older man jokingly glares at him.
“So, you still set about the General Course?” Yagi asks him.
“Yeah. It’s the only way mom will agree to UA. Otherwise, getting any of the required contacts, in a way that open to the public will be difficult” Izuku sighs. “But Ultra will continue.” Izuku answers.
“She will find out about it if she doesn’t already know.” Yagi tells him. “And that will not be a pleasant conversation.”
“We’ll see what that door holds for us when we get to it.” Izuku answers as they stop near the Police Station.
“I’ll be back in a bit. Got to hand this man over to the police.” Yagi says as he activates his quirk, going All Might and entering the Police station while Izuku waited outside.
It wasn’t long after All Might went into the police station when a loud explosion could be heard and seen not far from where Izuku was.
“What in the?” Izuku mutters to himself as he heads to the location of the explosion to see what was happening. He hoped that All Might would also have heard it and would have acted on it.
On arrival, Izuku noticed a monster like creature that was rampaging in and destroying the buildings around him.
‘A kaiju? How did it get all the way out here in the city?’ Izuku thinks to himself as he looks around. ‘I need to intervene.’ Izuku thinks to himself looking at his armband.
While Izuku thought of a distraction, a massive gust of wind distracts the Kaiju as All Might lands in front of it.
‘Oh, great he’s here… Shouldn’t he be out of time?’ He wonders to himself as he uses the distraction All Might’s appearance had made to his advantage and runs into an alley, tossing his bag behind the dumpster.
“Ultra.” He mutters as he presses the button on the band. The gem on top glows red as the arm band expands, covering Izuku’s entire body in a matter of seconds. Izuku leaps up into the air while the rest of the suit still formed over the base layers. By the time he landed in front of the crowd, Izuku was covered in a metal suit.
“Look it’s Ultra!” One of the bystanders exclaims.
“All Might. Fancy meeting you here.” Izuku, as Ultra, greets the pro. “What brings you to this side of town?” He asks All Might.
“Fight first. Talk later.” All Might orders. “We need to restrain this Kaiju.”
“Yes sir.” Ultra answers as the two leapt into action. All Might takes to the air as Ultra dashes towards the Kaiju on the ground.
“Detroit Smash!” All Might exclaims as the two heroes hit the Kaiju with punches. “You’ve gotten stronger since the last time we met Ultra.”
“Well, I’ve been practicing. And the suits gotten a few upgrades to harness my powers better.” Ultra answers as he leaps into the air and kicks the kaiju in the face. “I think it’s time to end this. Can you buy me some time?”
“Alright. I’ll get you a few seconds.” All Might says as he dodges a blind punch from the Kaiju.
Ultra leaps away from the Kaiju and All Might. He crosses his arms as he activates a blaster on his left forearm. The crowd that was watching them got excited, knowing what was coming.
“Spacium…” Ultra exclaims, as he crosses his arms in front of him, the crowd cheering as energy gathered in front of his left forearm. All Might grabs the Kaiju, tossing it in the air, making a perfect target for Ultra.
“RAY!!” The crowd yells along with Ultra as a he releases a green ray from the side of his palm. The ray hits the Kaiju in the chest, causing it to crash into a car and fall unconscious.
“Well, the crowd loves you.” All Might tells Ultra as the boy walks up to him.
“When do they not.” Ultra responds when a soft beeping interrupts them. Ultra looks down to see that his core had turned from green to red and was making a warning sound.
“Looks like the ray used too much power… I’ll have to figure out the best settings for the Ray.” He sighs. “I guess that means I’ve got to leave.” Ultra tells All Might. “See you later AM!” Ultra leaps away, leaving All Might to handle things with the police.
Ultra lands on a roof top far from the crowd, deactivating his suit as he leapt to ground level. He quickly found his bag in the alley he had left it in and made his way to the Supermarket to get the groceries.
It didn’t take long for Yagi to find the boy once he was free from his commitments. Izuku had managed to get everything his mother had asked and was now standing in line for billing the items.
“Thanks for the assist back there.” Yagi tells him as he stood near the boy, helping him load everything onto the conveyer belt for scanning.
“It wasn’t too much trouble.” Izuku answers as he watches the employee scan the things he had picked up.
“That will be 12,450 yen sir.” The employee reads out the final cost.
“Here you go.” Yagi says, handing the employee his card.
“Hey! Mom gave me money for that.” Izuku exclaims.
“I’m covering it.” Yagi says.
“You don’t have to do this you know.” Izuku tells him. “Mom and I can take care of ourselves now. You did make sure of that years ago.” Izuku tells him.
“Your father saved my life, there’s no amount of money that could repay that debt.” Yagi tells Izuku as he enters his pin on the card machine. “So please, let me do this.”
“Thank you for shopping with Super! Please come back soon.” The employee tells them, handing them the bill and Yagi’s card.
“Thanks!” Izuku replies as they grab the bags and walk home.
