“How many times does this make it?”
“Maa, I think it’s up to ten now Rin.” Kakashi answered cheerfully, completely ignoring the visible rage seeping from the Jinjurki’s every pore.
“So close! It’s eleven!” She chirped, her false smile never slipping. She snapped her head so quickly to the other person in the room Kakashi was surprised it didn’t fall off. “And where were you?”
Obito gulped so visibly it took a lot for Kakashi not to chuckle, lest Rin go back to questioning him. “I- I was training my gennin.” Obito said quietly, looking down like a kicked puppy.
“Aw, those cuties? Who were training in the village, doing their pre-made training regimens, safe and sound.” Obito winced at every added detail and eventually nodded. Rin’s smile finally dropped and she raked a hand through her hair. “Sage, what's the point of you two having some weird eye connection thing if Kakashi is still ending up hospitalized!”
“To be fair we can’t control when the vision share thing turns on.” Rin turned back to him and marched over.
“Stop overusing your chakra.” She snapped and poked him in the ribs, which right now felt more like she stuck a hot iron to them and he winced. Obito was looking between the two trying to figure out whose side he should be on. “And you, watch over him. If he escapes this hospital before I personally clear him I’ll make sure you both are injured enough you’ll be stuck here till spring.” Obito nodded and quickly sat next to Kakashi. Rin said a few more curses as she left the room. Both waited till the sound of footsteps faded before sighing.
“Could’ve been worse.” Kakashi shrugged and Obito huffed.
“No kidding, I was bracing for a punch the entire time.” Obito agreed, laying back on the stiff hospital pillows next to Kakashi. “You okay, does anything hurt?” Obito asked softly and Kakashi laughed a little.
“Yeah, everything kind of hurts. That's what sucks about chakra exhaustion.” Kakashi sighed and Obito turned over to look at him.
“Anything I could do to help?” Kakashi smiled but shook his head.
“No, I just need to work on replenishing my chakra. It’s sweet of you to offer though.” Kakashi explained, he looked to Obito and regretted not just saying no as he saw the other's eyebrows knitted.
“Can’t I give you some?” Kakashi sighed as he was reminded that even with Obito becoming an elite Jounin he was still last in the academy.
“No, people can only accept their own chakra. That’s why medics need to train so hard to learn how to convert theirs into just pure yang chakra and not hold any of their nature.” Obito nodded but still had that scrunched look.
“But I can drain people's chakra with mokuton.” Kakashi sighed again, talking didn’t hurt but he would get a headache if he had to teach Obito the basics of chakra right now.
“Yes but you don’t absorb it, now please Obito just drop it- Ow!” He jolted as Obito laid a hand against his arm and surged chakra into his arm.
“SHIT SORRY! Sorry, are you okay?” Obito quickly asked, pulling away and backing up. And Kakashi, to his own surprise, was. Even the initial transfer hadn’t hurt, he overreacted at the sudden warmth, but his moving hurt more than the chakra.
“It’s… fine. Try it again.” Kakashi said looking up at Obito excitedly, he loved experimenting with jutsu and chakra and getting to do that while hospitalized would help the time pass much faster.
“No!” Obito yelped, keeping his hand close to his chest. Kakashi rolled his eye and wished he could just pull the other down.
“Come on, that really didn’t hurt. It was just warm and I didn’t expect it” Obito eyed him suspiciously but at least laid back down.
“Honest?” Obito said pouting
“Yes, now do that again.” Kakashi watched as Obito slowly put his hand back on his arm, he couldn’t see the flow of chakra but felt it as it went through Obtio’s palm and into his arm. Obito paused the flow and looked up to him and Kakashi smiled. “See nothing, if anything it feels better.”
“Really?” Kakashi nodded and even tried rolling his shoulder, it no longer felt like he was dragging it against jagged stone, instead just slightly sore. “Wow, I guess I’m like, a chakra IV drip kind of?” Kakashi was going to try and find a better way of phrasing it but seeing how happy Obito looked he just shrugged.
“I guess.”
"You think It's because of the eye?" Obito asked, looking up to meet his before drifting over to the eye patch covering his sharingan.
"That's the only reason I can see to explain how I'm fine right now."
“Cool. I always felt bad about that, I gave you an eye but could give you any of my reserves.” Obito confessed as he got as comfortable as he could on the hospital bed, wrapping his arms around Kakashi.
“You don’t have to feel bad about that, I could be a lot better about my control.” Kakashi spoke softly, feeling really relaxed by the heat surrounding him and pain dimming.
“Please, you have the best control out of our whole generation, probably better than most of the ones before us as well. You just got unlucky with your reserves.” Kakashi frowned at that.
“I thought we agreed you wouldn’t call my reserves small anymore.”
“I didn't.” Obtio said, sounding completely innocent, but Kakashi could feel the other’s smil against his temple.
“Well, calling them unlucky is not allowed too starting now.” Kakashi huffed and Obito just hummed, pressing a kiss against the side of his head. Kakashi had to try hard not to fall asleep, something Obito had no problem with. It really was interesting how the other managed to keep circulating and letting out chakra in his sleep. Kakashi knew the other just complimented him on control but Obito’s skill was nothing to ignore, that fact not even a small fire started extremely surprising. However what he was staying up for came quickly as he felt his reserves fill and waited just a moment longer to see if he could have a superluxe of chakra. At first he felt fine then suddenly his stomach was flipping and he felt nauseous, he pulled back quickly and lifted the eye patch of his left eye. Draining the extra chakra he had quickly, Obtio jolted up too and looked at him confused.
“What happened?” Obtio asked, looking between his eye and the room.
“I got too much.” Kakashi said, feeling out of breath and hot. But the feeling was going down quickly and he lowered the eye patch again. It was quicker to fix than chakra exhaustion but got worse so much faster. He wouldn’t try to mess with that again, anytime soon at least.
“Shit, I’m sorry I fell asleep and-” Kakashi quickly held up a hand.
“No no, I was awake. I just wanted to see if I could go over my limit or I’d just stop accepting your chakra.” Kakashi explained, seeing Obito get upset, he quickly switched the subject. “How do you feel? How much of your reserves did I take?” Obito, always quick to get mad and quick to forget, sat back and focused.
“Not even half,” Kakashi frowned. Obviously he wouldn’t want to take too much of Obito’s chakra but he had hoped he’d make more of a dent. “That means this could work in a battle situation!” Obito said, completely oblivious to the blow he made towards Kakashi’s pride. However Kakashi had to admit the other was right. The door creaked open and both looked up to Rin, who’s expression turned angry when she saw Kakashi sitting upright.
“What did I say about escaping!” She yelled and Obito jumped forward, holding his hands up.
“No he’s not trying to leave! He’s feeling better after I gave him so of my chakra and-”
“You did what?” Rin asked, looking completely confused. Then she got even angrier than before. “YOU. DID. WHAT? Do you know the repercussions of sharing chakra? You're not even the same nature!” She shoved past Obito and grabbed Kakahsi’s shoulders, jostling him as she looked him over. “You don’t have any burns.” Rin said surprised. Kakashi grinned, having already gone through what she was thinking.
“Yep.”
“And no fever.” She added, pressing a hand to his forehead just to make sure. “And no tremors.” She stepped back looking him over and huffed. “Why the hell have I been treating you for chakra exhaustion if you could just do this.” Kakashi frowned, hoping she would be more interested in the science of it and what other possibilities it ment.
“We didn’t know, but now I can treat him when he gets excited on missions!” Obito said cheerfully before Rin was jabbing a finger in his chest.
“No! Just because you can rapidly heal it doesn't make his constant exhaustion okay! It damages his chakra coils and causes damage to his body overall, god helping with that eye surgery was the worst thing I ever did.” Rin sighed.
“I thought you said being my best woman was the worst.” Obito added unhelpfully and Rin whined.
“Oh it was, don’t remind me. Obito you were such a bridezilla. How dare you bring that up, take your awful husband and your awful self out of my hospital.” Rin lamented and Kakashi smiled, patting her shoulder as he got up himself.
“We’ll see you for dinner next week?” Rin still sighed dramatically but nodded.
“I guess.” she huffed but still smiled. “Take better care of yourself?”
“I’ll try.” kakashi offered.
“I’ll make him.” Obito added, slipping his arm around his waist before slipping them into Kamui.
