“So that’s how it’s gonna be.”
Puffy flinches. She’d planned it all for weeks now – known for weeks that she wouldn’t be able to leave during the day. To turn away as her brothers watched her open the door to her new life. She’d assumed it would be easier to do it at night, while everyone was asleep.
She’d forgotten that Schlatt was a light sleeper.
She’d forgotten that Schlatt barely ever slept at all.
“It’s too late to stop me,” she says, her voice shaky yet resolute. She already has one foot outside the door. It would be so easy to just run out.
She can hear her brother’s raspy breath, the same as it always is before they start fighting.
She can’t bring herself to face him.
Schlatt snarls. “Should’ve known. Tired of protecting the young, huh? And now you’re abandoning us to, what? Run off with your little pirate buddies?”
“Yeah. Yeah, I am,” Puffy chokes out. “I just… I can’t stay here another day. Tell mom and dad– No, don’t tell them anything. Tell Tubbo that I… That I’m…”
“Just leave.”
It sounds like an authorisation. It sounds like a banishment.
Puffy takes it either way.
