Work Text:
Kim Dokja got out of bed and stumbled down the hallway to get ready for the morning. He looked awful once he made it to the kitchen, where Yoo Joonghyuk was cooking himself breakfast.
“You’re up early,” he said without looking at him.
“I didn’t sleep.” Kim Dokja smiled, slouching onto the chair.
He sat upright when Yoo Joonghyuk slid a plate of breakfast towards him.
“I love you.”
“You don’t need to say that every time I give you food.”
As they ate, Kim Dokja tiredly chewed on his food while Yoo Joonghyuk mostly stared at him than his own plate. He reached out, pushing hair away from his eyes.
“You have eye bags.”
“I’m going for a look.” Kim Dokja winked.
“If the look is feral raccoon then sure.” He smiled at the way he scoffed.
Once Kim Dokja got dressed for work, he lingered by the door and waited. Yoo Joonghyuk rolled his eyes and went over to kiss his forehead.
“Don’t be late again.”
“Take that up with my boss then.” Kim Dokja joked then left the house.
“You look like a feral raccoon.”
“Good morning to you to Han Sooyoung,” he grumbled, walking over to his desk.
He tried to work, and by work I mean doing everything he can to get distracted from work, as Han Sooyoung rambled his ear off about something he didn’t care about. He got his phone out halfway through.
“Ugh.” She gagged.
“What?”
“You’re one of those couples.”
She gestured his phone wallpaper being a photo of him and Yoo Joonghyuk.
Kim Dokja rolled his eyes. “You’re just jealous you have no friends.”
“If I did I wouldn’t put them on my phone wallpaper.”
“I bet your wallpaper is lame.”
“It’s my grandma!”
“It’s not! …I hope it’s not otherwise I’m going to look like such a jerk.”
“No it’s just a girl pop group.”
“Of course it is.” He rolled his eyes.
“All your boyband biases are the ones that look like your boyfriend.”
“I don’t like boybands- I don’t have a boyfriend?” he said, confused.
“I really can’t tell if you’re being serious.”
Kim Dokja blinked at her. She sighed and face palmed.
“Your roommate who’s around you 24/7 like a big dog?”
“Joonghyuk-ah? He’s my emotional support human.”
“I don’t think any sane person looks at that guy and thinks of comfort.”
“He’s sweet once you get to know him.” She looked at him skeptically. He sighed. “We’re just friends, your mind is rotted by romance.”
“I don’t think friends storm into work when they get a text that the other is sick and then bridal carry them home.”
“That’s just how good friends are! Unlike you.”
“I didn’t want to catch your illness. Anyway you’re not like this with your other friends.”
“I knew him longer.” He shrugged.
"I think you guys are dating but you don't realise it," Han Sooyoung sighed.
"No we're like friends with benefits but without the sex,” Kim Dokja explained.
"...What?"
"You know, we do all the romantic things a couple does but we're not a couple. Friends with romantic benefits."
"Dude, no-"
She wanted to bang her head against the wall from how frustrated she was getting.
“Ok, how about you ask him about it?”
“Fine I will, and then when you’re wrong you’ll have to give me 10 compliments.”
She gagged. “And if I’m right?”
“Nothing.”
“That’s not fair!”
“Fine, I give you 10 compliments?”
“That’s torture.”
“I share you my lunch for a week…?”
“Deal!”
“Joonghyuk-ah I’m h-“
He didn’t get to finish his sentence when the man rushed over and kissed him.
“Not late for once.”
“I was just excited to see you,” Kim Dokja teased, wrapping his arms around him. “Can you carry me to bed?”
“No.”
He pouted. “Do you even love me?”
“I made you your favourite for dinner, you are not skipping it this time.” He walked off, leaving Kim Dokja blushing.
“Oh… you didn’t need to do that-“
“I wanted to.”
He went red and rushed off to change his clothes.
At dinner he noticed all the glances Yoo Joonghyuk was throwing at him.
“Is there something one my face?”
There was a lot of crumbs on his face but Yoo Joonghyuk just shook his head. “Do you like the food?”
“Yes… why are you staring at me?”
“Do I need a reason to?”
“G-guess not…” He bit down on his fork harshly.
After dinner he cuddled him in bed and Kim Dokja tried to steady his heartbeat.
“You’re shyer than usual, did something happen?” Yoo Joonghyuk asked, kissing his hair.
Kim Dokja squirmed. “U-uhm… do you like me?”
Yoo Joonghyuk rolled his eyes, thinking he was teasing him. “No.”
“N-no I’m not joking this time…” He turned to face him.
Yoo Joonghyuk cupped his cheek. “Why are you asking me this? Of course I like you.”
Kim Dokja went red, wondering if it was dark enough to hide that. “Then why aren’t we dating?”
“…” Yoo Joonghyuk let out a groan, about to scream into his hands. “You idiot…”
“What?”
He stared at him then pulled him into a tighter hug. “You thought I was doing all this and we’re just friends?”
“W-what? Wait since when-“
“I assumed you knew we were dating the first time I kissed you.”
“…I thought you were just being nice.”
“Idiot…” he murmured but ran his hand through his hair.
“Well you never asked me out!” Kim Dokja complained.
“I thought it was implied. But that was my fault for thinking you have anything going on in that head of yours.”
Kim Dokja smacked him playfully.
“So… you like me?”
“Yes, idiot.”
Kim Dokja smiled and buried his face in his chest.
“Even if I was a worm?”
“We’re not doing this.”
Han Sooyoung ate Kim Dokja’s lunch as he stared at her bitterly.
“So-“
“I am NOT talking about it,” he said, blushing.
She smirked knowingly. He stared at his lunch with a heartbroken expression. She sighed and gave it back.
”You don’t eat enough to begin with,” she grumbled.
“Aww you care about me?”
“I hope you get run over on your way home.”
He got run over. No I’m just kidding.
The moment Kim Dokja got home, he immediately went to wrap his arms around Yoo Joonghyuk, who was cooking.
“Welcome home,” he mumbled.
“I missed youuu my darling.”
He sighed and pushed him away. “I knew you were going to be annoying about this.”
Kim Dokja smirked. “You love it.”
He kissed the smirk away. “Unfortunately I do.” He smiled at how embarrassed Kim Dokja got.
