It was the day before the new year, the four had gathered together to celebrate the upcoming year in the local new years festival. The night sky was stunning, stars twinkling in the dark like never before. But despite the lovely view, the four managed to create a silly atmosphere. Tsukasa groaned as he helped Rui put together his kimono. It was like this every year.
“I can never put this thing on correctly.” Rui whined, Nene just looked at the disheveled man with an expression that read 'Are you serious right now?’.
Tsukasa finally tucks in the last piece of fabric, making Nene and Tsukasa to sigh in relief. Emu stops running around, instead she jumps in eagerness. “Are we done!? Can we go now?!” Her eyes go sparkly as she squeals, barley containing her excitement. “Thankfully. Let's get going before they run out of food.” Nene smiles at the pink haired girl, she always lightened up her mood when she wasn't causing chaos.
The four all laugh, they don't know why but it just felt right. They spent their time walking around the festival, the scene was pretty, like it came straight out of a movie. Emu and Rui were munching on candy apples which they had been given to after begging to Nene. The two had too huge of a sweet tooth, it was almost sickening.
“Nene! Nene! Play this game with me!!” Emu shouted, pointing at the game stand, it was obvious she only wanted to play for the pink stuffed bear. Nene nodded, it's not like she'd ever turn a game down. The two girls ran over to the stand, getting busy in their own world as the two boys were left to the side. Tsukasa sat on a nearby bench, patting to his side, gesturing to Rui to come sit with him, which he quickly caught onto.
“Isn't it pretty here? The lanterns blend in nicely with the sky, and the stars are out too.” The blonde said with a longing look in his eyes. “Yeah you're right. The stars shine just as bright as you, my dear star.” Tsukasa's face flushed at the others' words, he would be lying if he said he hated how much of a smooth talker he was though.
“If we didn't plan anything, what would you do after the new year?” Tsukasa said with a sad smile, his voice was oddly quiet since he was always boasting with his loud voice. “I would probably get a job as an engineer or something. But I would want you by my side, I want to be with you forever, Tsukasa-kun.” Rui could feel the atmosphere between them die down into something more unsettling. He didn't like seeing Tsukasa sad, for he was the one who made his life worth living.
“You really do make me think twice about it, you know. I don't want you to do this, why can't you just live your own life? You have so much to do, and I have nothing. There's no reason for you to do this.” Tsukasa spoke, his voice laced with slight annoyance. “I can't imagine a world without you, you don't know how much you mean to me. You told me you'd stay by my side till the very end, if you want to stop walking I'll stop walking, if you want to run I'll run as long as I'm with you I'll be fine.” Tsukasa teared up at his words, he felt selfish for dragging Rui into this.
“If that's what you want, who am I to deny? My dear director.”

They all had did everything they could at the festival, eat food, play games, and do the special new years activities they had set up. It was almost 12, they all found a spot on the grass so they could watch the fireworks once it reached that time, for the meanwhile they were gazing at the stars, which shone brighter than usual.
“Can you believe it?! It's almost the new year and we're spending it together!” Emu says in a cheery voice, happy that they've all come so far together as a group. If only they could just stay a little longer. Tsukasa looks at the night sky, he's never seen it more beautiful. Tsukasa checks the time, 11:50, they better get going soon. Tsukasa stood up, bringing the taller man with him too.
“Me and Rui are going to go grab a snack, we'll be back soon.” Tsukasa tells his last lie, he can feel himself start to get nervous as he holds Rui's hand. “Okay!! Be quick or else you'll miss it!”
Rui and Tsukasa make their way to the viewing tower, climbing up the stairs which start to feel endless with how nervous the two are. As soon as they reach the top, they look out the balcony, they can see the pretty sea and how the moon reflects on it. It seemed like the perfect night, something most people would die for to just admire the view. But as pretty as it seems the two can't seem to take their eyes off each other, they felt as if they even looked away for a split second the other would disappear.
“I really love you, my star. You're just as pretty as the sea, no less.” Rui holds the shorter boy's face, pulling him closer to himself. He really goes crazy for Tsukasa, he'll admit that but he can't help it, but who wouldn't for their soulmate? He's happy he's the only one who gets to do this with the blonde.
“I love you too, Rui. And you're as beautiful as the moon, my moon.” Tsukasa giggles nuzzling his forehead against the others, which resulted in Rui pulling him into a kiss. It's soft and loving, just how the both of them like it. Tsukasa wants to pull Rui closer to him, until they merge into one another, he's really glad he's met someone who loves him more than anything, it makes him feel like the luckiest man on earth.
Suddenly the fireworks began to pop, catching the two off guard as they both jumped away from each other in surprise. They both laugh at the silly action, intertwining fingers once again. They get over the fence of the balcony, sitting on the railing as they watch the fireworks explode into the sky, creating hues of orange and yellow sparks.
“Rui, do you think we'll meet again? In another universe? Or maybe in the afterlife?”
“Of course we will, no matter where we are, we'll always be able to find each other because that's just how much we love each other. Maybe your wish will come true, you'll be the brightest star in the sky and next to you I'll be the moon watching over you.”
And so they look at each other with smiles, tears flowing down their rosy cheeks as they both slide off the railing, holding each other's hands tightly, not wanting to ever let go.
“I'll always love you, my dear star.”
“Can I too?”
