Summary:

What do you do when you have a crush on your best friend and also a boyfriend waiting at home? Maybe not what Legend does, but it'll work out for him anyways!

Chapter Text

Ravio was the best thing to ever happen to Legend. Ravio stuck with Legend after the quest, despite Legend being terrified of losing him, despite Legend being an asshole with a never ending stream of issues. Despite all that, Ravio stayed, and Ravio loved him, and he loved Ravio back.

So why was this person, who was not Ravio, atop him? Why was he on his back? Why were his cheeks so flushed? Why did his dick throb when he looked into their sultry brown eyes?

Hyrule shifted above him, his hips grinding against Legend’s. They groaned together.

“W-wait. I can’t-”

Hyrule leaned forward, pressing his lips to Legend’s neck, breath tickling his throat as Hyrule spoke, “You’re okay, you can.”

“No, no, no, I have a boyfriend, this is wrong..!”

Legend’s voice pitched up as their hips grinded against each other again.

Hyrule hummed, “Do you?” His breath ghosted over Legend’s ear. “It’s too bad he can’t see you like this.”

Legend gasped at the words, at the friction, at the whole situation. Hyrule kissed his way up Legend’s neck, his face, pausing at his lips, looking into his eyes, then closed the distance.

Legend opened his eyes to darkness.

He felt uncomfortably hot in his bedroll and quietly got up out of it. Legend looked around camp, checking if he woke any of his companions, and locked eyes with Wild, who was on watch.

Wild signed to him, Nightmare?

Legend thanked the darkness that hid his burning ears, and nodded shortly, signing back, Need a minute, before turning away and shuffling to the outskirts of camp, where he wouldn’t disturb, but Wild wouldn’t worry about where he was.

Legend took some calming breaths, willing away his fast-beating heart and warm ears.

He just… Had a wet dream about… not Ravio…

About Hyrule .

It felt so absurd. He couldn’t imagine Hyrule acting the way they did in his dream, but also apparently he could , since he dreamed about it. Hyrule was his friend, he was rather meek, kind, and he was so enamored in the world around him. ‘Rule could be a bit mischievous, at times, Legend supposed, but that did not translate into what his subconscious just presented him.

And, Oh Goddesses, Ravi.

Legend had a boyfriend . He should not be having dreams about Hyrule, about anyone , like that.

But it’s not like it was real. It’s not like he actually wanted to pursue Hyrule like that. He loved Ravio and Hyrule was his friend.

Deciding to end his thoughts at that, Legend picked his way back to his bedroll, exchanging glances with Wild, and settled down.

The next few weeks, Legend did his best to forget about the dream and go back to business as usual. It was effective, most of the time, but, occasionally, when they were alone, Hyrule’s eyes would catch the light just right, he would smile just so, and Legend couldn’t help but admire how beautiful the other was.

They ended up in Legend’s era, and Legend was itching to get home to Ravio as soon as he recognized the area. He urged the others along, much to Sky’s displeasure, and Time reminded him that they shouldn’t rush. Legend reluctantly slowed to a more acceptable pace, and Hyrule came to walk next to him at the front of the group.

“You excited to get home?” Hyrule inquired.

Legend shrugged. “It’s been a while,” he said defensively.

Hyrule eyed him, with his intelligent, beautiful eyes… Legend shook himself mentally. He was literally an hour from seeing Ravio. How could he face his boyfriend if he was having thoughts like this?

“It’s more than that, isn’t it?” Legend almost forgot that Hyrule was speaking to him, lost in his— traitorous —thoughts.

Legend didn’t answer. He might have been willing to tell Hyrule about his and Ravio’s relationship, but not right now, and not here.

Hyrule faced forward, eyebrows furrowed and lips downturned, thinking hard.

After some time Hyrule made an excited noise. “You have someone waiting at home! You miss Rabbit.”

Legend’s embarrassment was overtaken by laughter. “His name is Ravio . That’s what he gets for wearing that stupid hood all the time.”

“So I’m right!” Hyrule cheered. “You miss Ravio.

Legend felt his ears warm, and they twitched, as if to shake out the heat.

Hyrule laughed good-naturedly at him and lowered his voice, aware of their companions not far behind. “You said he was, what, a roommate?”

Legend answered with a short “Yep.”

“Your ears are so red,” Hyrule whispered.

“Yeah I'm trying to not think about that,” Legend half-joked.

Hyrule laughed at him again, and they took a handful more steps before he continued, “I don’t think I’ve met anyone with such expressive ears.”

The words sounded like they should be a tease, but Hyrule said it like it was a compliment, and it only made Legend’s ears heat up more.

“It’s a good thing, for me. Makes it a lot easier to tell what you’re thinking. I’ve never been good with facial expressions,” Hyrule spoke as if lost in thought.

Legend huffed, “I’d say it’s the opposite for most people.”

Hyrule giggled, “Yeah, but that’s fine. I’m used to not being like most people.”

Legend meant to tease, but it came out fond, “Yeah, you sure are unique.”

Hyrule took it as a compliment, and, in a way, it was. “ Thank you.”

The conversation between them settled into much more mundane topics like bugs Hyrule saw and what magic items Legend kept at home.

As soon as Legend deigned the group close enough to make the rest of the way to the house on their own, he tapped Hyrule in warning, then quickly upped his pace until he was sprinting towards home, towards Ravio.

Hyrule took this as a challenge and started after him, waving back at the calls of the group to “Slow down,” and, “Come back.”

On the uneven ground of the forest, Hyrule could undoubtedly beat Legend in a foot race, but they very quickly emerged onto flat ground and Legend activated his pegasus boots, dashing ahead and skirting around a corner, then up the hill to his house.

Hyrule squawked at him, “Cheater!” before catching up and slowing to a stop outside the house.

Legend was already in the doorway, occupied with being welcomed home by Ravio, who glanced behind him, spotting Hyrule, then asking Legend, “Where are the others?”

Legend huffed. “Too slow,” he explained shortly.

Ravio looked concerned, glancing down the road, looking for the other heroes.

Hyrule assured him, “They aren’t far behind. We left them about ten seconds into the forest over there.” They pointed.

Legend chuckled, “Maybe ten seconds of running like a deer.” Hyrule feigned offense. “Either way, they can clearly see the house and they saw where we went. They’ll be along.”

Ravio slapped Legend’s arm. “You are a terrible host, Mister Hero! Leaving our guests in the woods.”

“They’ll be fine, ” Legend stressed.

Hyrule grinned, remembering the earlier conversation between themself and Legend. “Legend missed you, Mister Ravio. You’ll have to forgive his bad manners.”

Legend slapped a hand over Hyrule’s mouth much too late, and Hyrule licked it without hesitation. Legend reeled back in disgust, then attempted to wipe his hand on Hyrule’s tunic in retaliation. They didn’t really try to stop him, instead laughing at Legend’s red ears, perked up and back. “You are no longer my friend,” Legend lied.

Ravio was surprised for a moment before he jumped on the opportunity to tease Legend. “Oh! Mister Hero missed little ol’ me,” Ravio giggled.

Legend sputtered at him, “You are the worst.”

“But you missed me! I can’t be the worst if you miss me so much.” Ravio was poking Legend's sides and giggling as Legend squirmed away.

Hyrule stopped the teasing as soon as they saw the rest of their group emerging from the treeline, gesturing and saying, “There they are.”

Legend groaned, and Ravio generously stopped poking him.

Legend asked Ravio, “You haven’t filled the guest rooms with merchandise again, have you?”

Ravio didn’t look even a little remorseful as he said, “Not all of them.”

Legend huffed and grumbled at him as he pushed inside. “We’ll need all of them ,” Hyrule heard before Legend was too far away.

Hyrule sighed as a soft smile settled on their face. They wandered over to the edge of the hill, where they could better see their approaching party, and they could better see them. Warriors spotted them and attempted to exaggeratedly sign to Hyrule from down the road. Hyrule couldn’t really see the signs well, but, by the angry motions, they assumed he was voicing his displeasure about being left behind.

Hyrule just smiled broadly and waved joyously back at the group. Warriors hands got more angry, and Hyrule wasn’t sure if he was actually signing anything anymore.

When they got close enough, Warriors yelled up at Hyrule, “I get Legend abandoning us, but you’re supposed to be better than that!”

Hyrule laughed, “Who said that?”

Sky spoke to Warriors from his side, and Hyrule noticed, with some guilt, that Twilight was holding an extra bag and Sky’s face was red with exertion. Was Sky really that exhausted? Hyrule had thought that the skyloftian wasn’t doing any worse than usual before they ran after Legend, but perhaps he started struggling in the latter bit of their trek.

Warriors called up, now closer and straining his voice less, “We’re taking away your little guy privileges for a week.”

Hyrule sputtered at the descriptor, “My what?”

Sky was breathing heavily as he picked up his pace somewhat unexpectedly. Warriors laughed and said something to him while easily matching the new pace.

The heroes made their way up the path, Sky and Warriors in front. When they made it to the flat top of the hill,  Sky gasped for breath before wheezing out, in a tone that Hyrule supposed was meant to be stern, though the effect was ruined by his struggle to breathe, “Your… little guy privileges!”

Hyrule went over so that Sky didn’t need to strain at all to speak with them and asked again, “What are my little guy privileges?”

Sky got his breathing more under control, hands rested upon his head, before answering. “The privileges,” a breath, “that you get,” another, “because you’re just a little guy.”

“I’m not that short,” they protested, “and how is that a privilege?”

Warriors laughed at the exchange and led Sky towards the door, which was left ajar in welcoming. “He doesn’t mean you’re short, he means you’re cute.”

Hyrule only protested louder at that, “Cute? Surely you are not speaking about I!” They grinned at using the fancy language that Legend would often mock.

Warriors laughed again as he found a couch to force Sky into, then retrieved Sky’s things from Twilight, who followed them in, along with the rest of the group. Warriors picked out Sky’s waterskin, offering it to him, then helping Sky take a few drinks when they discovered that Sky’s hands were shaking.

Hyrule’s smile softened as they watched. “Sorry, Sky. I didn’t realize you were having an issue.”

Sky had finished drinking and breathed deeply. “I wasn’t. Got a flair-up just a bit after you left.” Sky’s smile was a little sad, and Hyrule understood that he probably felt a bit weak for having issues when the rest of them didn’t. Hyrule felt that way sometimes, too.

Hyrule sat near Sky on the couch, allowing someone else to call for Legend to let him know they had arrived.

“Even though you apologized, you still are losing little guy privileges for the day,” Sky declared.

“It was a week before,” Hyrule teased.

“That was before you said sorry and looked at me with your big doe-eyes.”

Hyrule giggled at Sky. “That is the second time someone called me a deer in the last fifteen minutes,” they shared.

Twilight, who ended up settled nearby, spoke up, “Yer a deer, fer sure.” Twilight nodded to himself resolutely, as if the statement made perfect sense.

“Sorry, what?” Hyrule questioned, because the statement did not make sense to them.

“Yer a lot like a deer,” Twilight explained. He started counting on his fingers as he listed deer-like traits. “Ya got good senses, jump through tha brush like it’ nothin’, yer flighty, but yer gentle once ya trust, not ta mention that Sky is ‘ight that yer eyes look jus’ like a deer’s. All big an’ round deep brown.”

Hyrule’s eyes widened at the description. “Does everyone think this?” They addressed Sky and Warriors on his other side. It’s not that Twilight was wrong, but Hyrule didn’t know how they felt about his friends equating them to a woodland animal.

Sky shrugged, and Warriors said, “No, Twilight just has a thing about assigning everyone an animal, I think.”

Twilight huffed, “I’ makes sense.”

Warriors laughed at his expense, “Just to you, rancher!”
